The last arc of redemption for Moriarty. How he recuperated in America after the nasty 'fall' in the Thames.
1. Can 'evil' be redeemed? 2. Right or wrong depends on the perspective.
I love how most of the iconic characters are working for a secret organisation. Billy the Kid has a score to settle, and the best people to help him are Sherlock and Moriarty . . . I can't wait to see how this one ends, even though, I will be heartbroken when this series ends.
If you like detective fiction with a few unique twists, I can recommend this series wholeheartedly.
Here we go, let's add a little mission impossible to the formula?
Up until now, the series has been built upon the story of Sherlock Holmes with a good healthy dose of the James Bond stories hybridized into it all. I've been wondering what they're going to do when they run out of source material content to play around with. Now that they've finally revealed what their American arc is going to contain I have an idea of what their next source material will be. Honestly, I'm surprised I didn't think of it sooner cuz it just fits so well.
It was all revealed with a secret mission letter. I promise of a dangerous mission that you choose to accept, and if you fail the government will disavow all knowledge of your efforts. Obviously a mission impossible thing, only they have to burn the letters themselves.
I mean it's "The Magnificent Seven" (2016) as retold through the lens of "Moriarty the Patriot", starring Sherlock Holmes and Billy the Kid Worked For Strikebreakers with the stamp of -checks notes- the Pinkertons. If that floats your boat, then I have great news for you!
We really do live in the bizarre reality where a Japanese mangaka is writing fanfiction starring Sherlock Holmes and Billy the Kid Who Worked For Strikebreakers in the 2016 remake of a 1960 US rip-off of a 1954 Japanese film. It's certainly audacious, if nothing else. I mean I'm not surprised, since an earlier chapter did a bizarre outright rip-off of "Good Will Hunting". It's perfectly fine to write fanfiction, even mediocre fanfiction like "Moriarty the Patriot", but I can't say this riff adds literally anything to the stories it's ripping off yet again, outside of letting a Japanese person take the reins back. So yay for that I guess? I'm glad Takeuchi had this opportunity? It's also just not very good at all?
Honestly, watch "Magnificent Seven" (2016) or "Seven Samurai" (1954) instead. I have no idea if the latter is good and certainly the former has its own issues, but the former is at least is 1000x better written than this.
I will give this arc credit though: I think it's the first time there's a character of color in the story. Sure, they're in only one chapter thus far, but still.
Also my stars are for the . Literally nothing else is worth sticking around for.

Was I expecting the genre change to Western? No, but maybe I should’ve the moment Billy showed up. In any case, this volume is very fun ♡ I’m so down for Western Sherlock Holmes, wasn’t sure that was something I wanted to see until now.
I swear Sherlock and William are not beating the gay allegation💀 Y'all already planning on living together and they already did their wedding Vows, pfft- nothing more to do
This volume gives me something I never knew I needed, that is, Sherlock Holmes in cowboy costume.
There are new back stories revealed in this volume, which, as expected, is very frustrating and heartbreaking. But we also have William being soft around kids, and so I didn't stay depressed for very long.
I liked this volume. The story of old friends with the regret of not understanding. The organisation of a strategy to deal with the usurpers of a village and William who thinks and then acts.... The two big brothers with stupid names are ridiculous.
William jak zawsze slay in every moment.
Twórca wykorzystuje te treści do pokazania mniej przyjemnego oblicza ameryki i uwypuklenia różnych nierówności tamtych czasów, porównując tym samym USA do Anglii.
Oof. I really don't know what we're doing with this series anymore. Although perhaps I had better admit my biases. I do so freely and without hesitation: If there is one thing I find more tedious, more uninspired, more mine-eyes-hath-glazed-over than a western it's . . . well, I don't know what it is, and that's the point. So I can proudly, whole-heartedly say that the whole "defend the town against a band of outlaws" cliche of a plotline was never, ever, never going to work for me. Which in a way is unfortunate, because I guess that's what this series has (rather bizarrely) decided it's going to go out on, a cliched, yee-haw of a plotline.
Also in this volume: we get more of the Billy the Kidd character than ever, which is bad for me because my preference would be for less of this character, not more. I still am at a loss to understand the choice to spend this much time with a new character--a character who, for my money, is the least interesting out of the entire cast by at least a mile and a half--at the very end of the series.
Honestly maybe we should have just ended this when Moriarty and Sherlock threw themselves off that bridge. I could have written some fanfiction in my head to fill in the gaps which, at the very least, wouldn't have involved Billy the Kidd or the wild fucking wild west.
This was an interesting volume. We got a little bit of backstory on Billy the Kid. Then Billy and Sherlock set off on a Wild West Adventure. Even though they are only headed to Pennsylvania? William gets an emotional interaction to help him on his recovery journey. And the volume ends on a good cliffhanger.
An amazing re-telling of the classic Sherlock Holmes through the eyes of William James Moriarty! Very worth a read since everything is beautiful lol. The characters are beautifully written and drawn, the story as complicated as it can be sometimes, it's delightful to read.
