The History of Fire chronicles the second Great Reckoning of our world from the mouths of heroes and tyrants. In the first book, Prince Rollo Fireborne interviewed more than sixty survivors to recount this vivid recollection of events that he cast into the pages of history so that we all could learn its lessons of pain, hope, and love.
In this book, we follow the lives of three characters: Abrinith, Freya, and Erland. They play essential roles in each other’s lives, even if the four corners of the kingdom separate them. Abrinith is a seemingly powerful man that never learns to take control of his destiny, allowing the world to wash him asunder. Freya is a skilled intelligence agent and a fierce warrior who controls all worldly events. And Erland is an adopted son of the North, an outsider to the people he has grown to love.
Can these three people do what God requires before the time comes to judge sin and smite those who destroyed the word? Only time will tell, but soon God will unleash the Black Plague on humankind. Under this pestilence, people will no longer be able to hide their true hearts under the veil of darkness, and monsters will once again walk this world.
A wonderful start to a trilogy. If you're into norse mythology or viking tales, this book is for you. It's packed full of intrigues, plot twists, thrilling story lines, and human relations. The book is written around three main characters, Erland, Abrinith, and Freya, and their various personalities, weaknesses and strengths. I like the way he wrote each chapter for each different character, similar to Game of Thrones. This book is however not recommended for children since it shows scenes of death, debauchery, and fowl language. The stress of keeping the religion of the One True God secret and underground will keep you at the edge of your seat. It's definitely a page turner. I found it funny how the Stormgod people consider those who worship the One True God as heathens. A very interesting story.

David Green managed to create a very interesting novel that will captivate readers across genres. The cover caught my attention at first sight; it is so powerful! The three main characters are very nice and it is easy to empathize with them. Their personalities are were developed as well as their character. The plot of the story is interesting and caught me reading for hours; it is not a very long book, but long enough to hooked me an entire week. The story is very well narrated. The author's style is very good and the only tiny criticism is that some dialogues were not as natural as they should for a story such as this one. But it is just a small detail that didn't spoil the novel. I recommend reading Heroes and Tyrants.
Although I haven’t read many fantasy books to compare this one to, I knew this would be one to pull me in. After reading the synopsis of this one, I knew I had to give it a shot. This is a perfect story for any reader who sees enjoyment in Viking stories, specifically ones with a sense of tension building throughout. I loved the character's names in the story and how the author took the time and care to develop each to the fullest. There's a thorough sense of description in the story and one that I would be happy continuing through as the author works further into the series. Great story for fantasy readers with a high sense of adventure.
Heroes and Tyrants: Book One of The History of Fire is an epic adventure of Abrinith,Freya, and Erland, a Viking themed adventure if I may say. David Green picked a good genre to write about, it is engaging (easy to understand and very descriptive), interesting (because who doesn't enjoy hearing about gods and goddesses of the old world?), and, last but not the least, gripping (you can't put the book down, until the next chapter and not even after that sometimes). It is a hero adventure where we follow the journey of the characters and see how they can fulfil their destiny, and maybe save their world. It is a book with good character developments and plot that may seem familiar but still unique in its own Viking way. It’s a journey that you should partake in, can't wait for the next book!
As a debut book of a series, Heroes and Tyrants does not disappoint. The lives and stories of the three main characters keep us entertained all the way. Its plot is well-thought, including historical events such as the Black Plague and including destiny and God’s will in between. If I have to highlight something about the way the story is told, I would say that the way author David Green put words together is just something from another level. The play on words, dialogues and some metaphors make this storyline unique. I was ready to read about fights, war, reigns, battles and Kings, but I enjoyed the fact these themes are not overwhelming, they subtly appear along the narrative. This definitely shows how much effort the author put into crafting a piece of literature that never gets dull.
An unputdownable novel “Heroes and Tyrants” is the first book in the series called “The History of Fire”. If you want suspense, danger and history, this is the perfect novel, which was written by David Green. The story revolves around Abrinith, Freya and Erland who possess particular qualities that later on they will need to get through the Black Plague, for instance. They complement each other perfectly and stay together to keep on moving. All in all, this is an entertaining novel full of turns and twists that made me feel at the edge of my seat all the time. The characters are well-portrayed as well as the settings. I liked it very much and for sure I'll continue reading the following book. An unputdownable story.
David Green is the author of “Heroes and Tyrants” a fantasy book that stretches for around three hundred and fifty pages.
The book’s intended audience are probably young adults, but I would say that anyone with a thirst for good fiction and an imaginative mind might love it. The characters are well-achieved and the story is believable.
When I finished reading, I felt the need for more and I cannot wait to read the second book of the series, which is titled “The History of the Fire”.
Green does a great work and his writing is convincing, intriguing and well-built.There are some events that were kind of unfinished, but I believe they are going to be covered in the next book. I give it four stars!
The History of Fire comprises a whole series of books that matches an intricately-built world with engaging characters and a fascinating plot. In this one, book one in the series, the three protagonists Abrinith, Freya, and Earland fight for their people in their own corners of the world. They will face destiny and terrible challenges to save the world from a pestilence. Will they succeed? The plot and worldbuilding are terrific here, clearly, and the settings are also a critical part of the way the characters live and interact. The author lets both plot and characterization unfold slowly but steadily. This together with action, history and fantasy form a read that shouldn’t be missed. I strongly recommend it.
"Heroes and Tyrants: Book One of The History of Fire" is an unmissable book written by David Green. This is a perfect book for lovers of Viking stories. In this opportunity, we follow the life of three characters: Abrinith, Freya and Erland. Each one of them with their own characteristics and personalities, but essential for the life of each one. As I read along, I marveled at the way author Green described the scenes. They are super detailed. The map at the beginning of the book seems fundamental to me to understand where we are located geographically. I invite everyone to read this fantastic story of Heroes and Tyrants.
“Heroes and Tyrants is the first book in the History of Fire series by author David Green. The author created good characters and developed them fully from beginning to end. I liked how descriptive the narrative is. I could picture in my mind the scenes and the people interacting. The plot of Heroes and Tyrants is cativating to say the least. Once I started reading it was difficult to put the book down. There is always something happening and this is what hooked me the most. I would recommend reading it!
"Heroes and Tyrants" is the first book of the History of Fire Series. This novel is meant for people who enjoy an adventure in a mythological and magical way, with a diversity of characters whose stories will entangle and result fundamental for the destiny of humankind.
There are three principal characters in this book: Abrinith, Freya, and Erland. They don't know each other and they come from different places, but their actions will impact each other lives.
I personally enjoyed this type of writing; adventure and mythology combined with a compelling story make the best combination a book can have. I´m definitely reading book number 2 to follow David Green's amazing story.
Heroes and Tyrants is the first book in “The History of Fire” series by David Green, which is about the story of the second Great Reckoning of our world. This is a quite long-length book, which may be overwhelming at first, especially considering that it is the first approach to a new world building. But the truth is that it is enriched by a clarifying map and a useful Cast of characters that really helps to get into it. Also, the chapters are told in reference of each of the 3 main characters and that narrative allows readers to understand better the feelings, reactions and thoughts of Abrinith, Freya and Erland. All in all, this is a great beginning for this epic fantasy story.
“Heroes and Tyrants” is a brilliant first book in the History of Fire chronicles. This piece weaves a mesmerizing and unique story that revolves around three amazing characters: Abrinith, Freya, and Erland. They were emotionally believable, strong and powerful enough to keep my interest page after page. It's a simple read with plenty of surprises that flow easily and moves very quickly. However, I have one point of criticism and it’s that I felt the plot could have been longer and in this way the author could have exploit the characters a bit more. Anyway, the book is amazing and I strongly recommend it. Without any doubt I’m looking forward to read the next installment.
“Heroes and Tyrants: Book one of the history of fire” is an amazing fantasy novel that will keep you engaged every second you devote to it. The life’s of Abrinith, Freya and Erland are without a doubt action-packed and enthralling. Separated, but connected at the same time, these characters will manage to marvel you and feel every single breath with them. In a world full of monsters and dark creatures, it can be hard to find the right way. But let yourself be surprised by David Green, who himself is an extremely experienced author, which becomes obvious when reading this book. You can really feel his passion for writing and it will not disappoint you!
Green has an amzing talent for the worldbuilding. Many people might find this tiresome, but ai personally think it marks an amazing start of a series. Although Green still has a long way to go in these series, this simple detail alone gives him a huge advantage for developing new character and storylines.
Besides this, the cast of characters which is mentioned at the end along with the fantasy world map are some of my favorite things this book has, especially becaus of how mixed the timeles could be with the characters in the book. The character development is also amazing!
This fantasy book is a really complex and well written piece that I would recommend anyone to binge read, although my only regret is having to wait for the next book!
If you’re looking for a Viking fix, this is your book. We’ve got politicking, scheming, traitors, and fighting. It’s just fantastic and I love me some betrayal. Maybe I’m a little messed up in the head but it’s just so good. I like that we follow more than just one character and get a better sense of the events unfolding and see how they all are tied together. The world building is on point and the character development. The tip toeing and trying to keep a religious belief secret and not get caught or else get beheaded, banished if you’re lucky, keeps you on edge. “Are they going to get caught?” “Who else is going to get caught?” This book was so enjoyable and I can say without a doubt that I will be reading the next one.
Part one of a series, this fantasy novel takes place in a world at war.
It's a land dealing with a secret religion called the Church of the One True God. The word "secret" is emphasized because there are spies everywhere. The penalty for membership, or just being swept up in a worship service is immediate banishment or death. There are a pair of brothers who are scheming against each other to be heir to the throne.
This book follows a few characters who fates are connected, though they don't yet know it. This is an epic fantasy that does not skimp on the "epic" part. The characters, and, especially, the society building, are very well done. This is a first-rate start to a series.
This is a great debut for a new series. If you want to read something other than your typical fantasy I wholly recommend this one.
Following 3 vikings, who don't know each other but whose actions impact everyone, the author acts this put with historical context.
Part intrigue and scheming for the throne, part religious groups at war, this is all adventure.
There are some mature themes, may be best reviewed before giving it to extremely young YA readers. But well written and nothing is in the book simply for shock value.
