Rate this book
Wayne Rooney. Teenage prodigy. Football legend. Record-breaking goalscorer. Icon. Maverick. One of a kind.

Rooney’s genius was evident from his early days as he kicked a ball around the playing fields of his Merseyside home. He carried that instinctive talent from the streets of Croxteth to the biggest football arenas in the world.

Now, 20 years since turning professional and with his remarkable playing career behind him, Teenage Kicks chronicles the complete story in detail, from early days making his mark at boyhood club Everton through to his coronation as the all-time leading goalscorer for England and Manchester United.

His introduction to life as a Premier League footballer with the Blues was stunning as the precocious 16-year-old rocked champions Arsenal with a glorious late winner. His move to Manchester United gave him the worldwide stage his talent deserved and in 13 years at Old Trafford he went on to win it all.

Whether he was winning trophies, scoring iconic goals, lighting up international tournaments or handing in transfer requests, he was a player it was impossible to keep out of the headlines.

With exclusive interviews and fresh stories from team-mates, Teenage Kicks tells the colourful and dynamic tale of a footballing journey like no other.

What a magnificent piece of reporting. It was a change from the memoir or biographical format. Rather it offered an account which was mostly based on factual events and direct quotes from those who were involved in the career of Roo. Being a football and MU since the inception of the English Premier League. I've witnessed two decades of highs under Sir Alex Ferguson. And this team has been blessed to have iconic players throughout history. However Rooney has a legitimate claim to be the best to ever wear the crest. When he burst onto the scene as 16 year old. You knew this kid was special. He was one of those old school players who had a technical gift and was willing to give his all for the team. His colorful life, a few mistakes here and there makes you wonder whether he could've been at the top with Rooney and Messi. There's a sense that he underachieved with MU and England but maybe the expectations were higher considering the talent.

This is a wonderful book for any sports fan. It his exhilarating, easy to read and definitely a great account of perhaps the most exciting period in English football

Was a good book. Was quite one-sided on Rooney's side. If he didn't play, that was the reason why his team lost. Would have liked a more balanced book to read.
