A scheming vampire, a unicorn with a job to do, and a mage who thought her power was gone, leaving her unremarkable.
Ally surrendered her magic as a teen. Her sister was the family heir, and Ally just wanted to leave her home and start off in a new city. She takes on odd jobs and ends up as a secure courier. Weeks before her twenty-seventh birthday, she takes a delivery that goes wrong and ends up with her being bound to the vampire king of the city. She decides to run, but he thwarts her, and after experiencing brunch with the vampire, she agrees to give him a chance to seduce her. Being seduced by a vampire takes time. There has to be formality, organization, and an opener. Ally had never heard of openers, but they were used when there were physical issues between the more aggressive of the races and usually the hapless human. The openers were unicorn stallions with a talent for easing things between normally incompatible species. Ally agrees to it, but there is one problem. She knows the unicorn. Bastien was the brother of one of her best friends, and he had been in training when she had seen him last. She had never imagined that she would see him again and that he would see all of her. Ally had sought to live her life quietly, to be unremarkable, but now, she was in the spotlight, and her family was calling her to defend her life, her freedom, and her new mates. She was taking her family down.
I enjoyed this. Practical FMC. Straight to the point communication. Side characters with enough backstory. And I love that at the end V.G. basically says you can make up a HEA for the other characters if so choose.
26 year old mage Ally has spent nearly a decade keeping a low profile among the monster's in her adopted home town. Her job as a courier brings her face to face with Ulric, the Vampire King. The late delivery cost her two ounces of blood and ties her Ulric. Ulric was suspicious of human who calls to him, though she isn't his type. The chances he goes through after AR a surprise. He is staking his claim. To fully claim his mate he needs the help of an opener. Bastien is a unicorn shifter and a rare opener. He is surprised to find his new assignment is his younger sisters best friend. He long suspected, now he is certain, Ally is his. Ally is now navigating two mates. She has good friends and some family who support her. She needs all the support she can get. Her 27th birthday is coning and with it a showdown with her older evil twin. The wild magic wants to be free. Fast paced and steamy paranormal romance. Great supporting characters. MF, MFM.
Loved the story. Beware of sneaky monsters. A vampire king and unicorn/ dark elf. A messed up family. This girl needs her King and her Pony! She helps out her friends ends up on a float for a parade. Dancing on a pole. I like the action. The story is a very good read.
Really good book. I love that all her new books are paranormal but deal with real (horrorifying, but real) issues that the characters handle with as much grace and dignity as those situations allow. Bummer that it’s not going to be a series though but I’m super happy with the others.
Love, adventure and romance. This one has it all. I enjoyed Ally’s story and thank you for the Epilogue, since you say it is not part of a series. Ally is a sweet girl, despite the mistreatment her family gave to her. She her knight in shinin armor, oops make that two knights. I really like this one.
I absolutely love Viola Grace's books!! This one just like all the rest did not disappoint. The book pulls you into this amazing world of magic and wonder with fabulous leads that you can't help but cheer on.
There were so many new concepts, such as the opener justifying a threesome. This story was wonderfully original . I liked the epilogue, would have like to know if the power least sister learned her lesson.
I just can't believe that Viola Grace actually wrote such a boring story. I am a long time reader of every one of her books and for me this one just is not up to par with the rest of her work. I had to force myself to read this from practically the very first chapter. Really glad there is no indication that this story is the beginning of a series. I would not read any others if there is.
This book is one of the best! It reminds me of a merging of the Obscure Magic and Covert Dragons worlds. If you liked either of those, you will enjoy this.
