The second book in the Blind Rebels rock star romance series finds guitarist Callum struggling to balance his career and single parenthood while discovering its OK to make room for romance, but will the woman he gives the last bit of his trust to destroy him forever?
Ari is the beautiful, nurturing nanny who appears to be everything Callum needs but it’s only a matter of time before the dark secrets of her past come back with a vengeance and threaten the existence of the entire band.
Callum
Guitarist. Rock star. Blind Rebels bandmate. My public persona embodies all of these titles fans have gifted upon me. But none of them matter as much as the role bestowed on me two years ago: father.
My son is my world, yet juggling being a single father with everything else hasn't been easy. I know I need help, but how can I trust a stranger with the one thing my entire world revolves around?
Arista
I must get out of my sister’s house. As much as I love her, I can't tolerate her handsy husband. Armed with a degree in early childhood education, I'm determined to find a live-in nanny position that will allow me to truly make a difference in a child’s life with one-on-one interaction.
Being a nanny for Callum Donogue looked like the opportunity of a lifetime. Unfortunately, he seems to resent me being there, spending time with his son. Can we find a way to make this work? Or will our constant clashing prompt him to hang up his guitar and abandon the Blind Rebels mid-tour?
This book contains adult subject matter and is intended for adult audiences. This book is not recommended for audiences who may be sensitive to discussions involving molestation and sexual abuse, kidnapping, or other adult topics.
Amy Kaybach has been writing since she learned to hold a pencil at three. When she’s not daydreaming about sexy rock stars and how to put them into print, she’s working in IT or planning her next great adventure with her best friend since junior high. She lives on the central coast of California with her two obnoxious, but well-loved beagles. As a motorsports fan she loves her cars loud and fast and as a music lover she her music hard and loud.
Callum was the guitarist of the Blind Rebels band and Arista the nanny who was hired to look after Gibson - Callum’s two y.o. little boy.
There wasn’t a character that I didn’t connect with or disliked. Well, except the two villains participating. I liked so much the author’s writing style. It had the same gripping vibe as in the previous part.
Cal and Ari’s story had me turning page after page, their connection was heartwarming, it also had some suspense and some drama.
Of course, the adorable star was little Gibson!!! His amazing expressions and personality touched my heart.
I am definitely anticipating for Sammy and Killian’s stories.
Amy Kaybach!!! Fank you for Awie and daddy!!!! Kiss kiss Amy!!! ♥️
Blending Chords is the second book in the Blind Rebel series by Amy Kaybach. I suggest you read Bridging the Silence (book one) if you haven’t already, this can be read as a stand-alone but will make so much more sense if you just read it in order!
Callum is a single dad to the cutest little boy Gibson after Gibsons mom took off when he was just a baby. Callum is trying to be the best father he can while also juggling a rock star career- he's burning himself out to the point he's going to have to give up the band, which is ok but just sucks, but then he decides to give a nanny service a try as a last final resort before calling it quits.
Ari the nanny that is sent is amazing but has had a rough past and is willing to do whatever she has to in-order to stay on her own two feet and not go back to her sisters. Ari loves working one on one with children and Gibson starts to thrive with all the care, routine, and just overall knowledge of child development that helps Ari know specifically what to do, she's great at her job!
All is going well until Callum receives an anonymous email with some very upsetting news so he fires her right then and there not even being willing to listen to her! Three months later he is regretting his actions and dug into the email more and found that it was a complete fake, he was wrong and Gibson and he both need Ari around.
Ari she decides to be Gibsons nanny again. The connection Callum and Ari have had from the beginning has been ignited even more now, I loved that Callum finally starts to show Ari his feelings for her.
Ari and Callum burn hot together but one of my favorite aspects of this love story is the love that Callum has for his son, the love that Ari has for Callum's son, the love that Ari had for Gibson even before Callum came to his senses and started treating Ari like a human, and just that very sweet bond.
This book just like the first is going to stick with me for a long time ❤️ so freaking good. Thank you so much Amy for the advanced reader copy as well as sharing these characters with your readers♥️
Gibson. GIIIIBSOOON! Gibson Donogue, the sweet, enchanting, adorable two year old son of Callum Donogue. Gorgeous, hunky, single (did you get that ladies? I did indeed say single) dad and guitarist of the Blind Rebels, is all you need to know about this book to fall in love with Blending Chords. But Callum has a problem. The rock and roll life style doesn't exactly meld well with being a single parent to the most adorable little scamp in the entire world. So, Callum is on the verge of quitting the band he founded and loves.
Enter gorgeous, shy Arista, who is looking to be Nanny to amazing little Gibson... You get to take it from there
What? Did you expect me to give you all the goodies? No way. I will tell you, Blending Chords is the perfect book 2 of the Blind Rebels Series. And it has all the fun and all the feels of book one. So keep the tissue box handy and well stocked. Because, Amy Kaybach will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. I love this book!
Ari and Callum's story is one that I think a lot of parents can relate to in many way, wanting to protect your child from the world.
The way Ari welcomes Gibs into her life, her heart, is nothing short of amazing. She's an amazing caregiver and cares so much about that sweet little boy. That's when things start to come together for Ari and Cal.
Book 2 was as amazing as book 1, even though they are completely different stories! I cannot wait for book 3!
Have you ever read a book and were unsure of how to review it? That would be me right now. Can this book be read as a standalone? Yes but I honestly would not recommend it. For the full effect and an understanding, you need to read Bridging the Silence. In Bridge the Silence you will meet all of the side characters and will learn about Callum's past. I will not show favoritism but Ms. Kaybach is my favorite musician book author. Did I even say that correctly? Also, there are trigger warnings please make sure to read them.
This book had my emotions all over the place. My heart cracked when I read Bridge of Silence because it explains Callum's past but then this book happened and my heart shattered. That poor man was put through the wringer but still stood on his own two feet. Callum was the type of father Im sure some of us wish we had and he was simply amazing. Callum was fierce and alluring. Then we have Ari that walks in and becomes Gibson's nanny, you will fall in love with that kid. I will warn you Ari's past wasn't beautiful and that is where I struggled the most. Ari was incredibly strong and had a beautiful soul. Put them together and you get dynamite. Watching their chemistry develop was a whole other story in itself. I can't recommend this book no this series enough. I will say this prepare yourself for that epilogue.
After finishing Book 2 in the Blind Rebels series, I need to take a breath because the story-telling by Amy is amazing! Just like with the first book in the series, I can't wait to see what happens next for the guys in the band! This book tells the story of the guitarist Callum, a single Dad who’s trying to balance his time with his son and the life of a rockstar. Arista comes along to take the job as his Nanny, while also trying to overcome her struggles in life that were thrown at her. Even though they don’t want to fall for each other, the attraction can’t be denied, but will the demons chasing her from her past interfere in the future they could have? We are taken on a journey of self-discovery, overcoming the past, as well as heart-stopping adventure, leading up to an edge-of-your-seat climax that you won’t be able to stop reading until you see how it ends. The character development and writing evoke such feeling in the reader that pull you in to the story and the love of these characters so deeply! Thank you for taking us on this ride with you Amy and letting us be your groupies! I can’t wait for the next installment of the Blind Rebels!
I loved reading Callums story. Honestly, as a parent. It's hard giving up control with your child. Even now as my son is almost 4, I still have trust issues even with his teachers at school. So again I understand everything from Callums perspective. I'm not saying what he did was right but understandable.
But man Ari, is so strong. Stronger than a lot of people I know. The pain and suffering that Ari had to go through her whole life was so tragic. Not only did I cry for her I cried for what she lost and what she could have had.
And what she did from Gibson is ingrained in my heart and soul. (I'm crying thinking about it again.) As a parent, that's who I want with my son and Callum chose right even though it took him a bit to get there.
This was an extraordinary book that will always have an impact on my heart just from the one scene above steictl6 because I would do it for my son in a heartbeat no matter what.
This wasn't just a story about learning to trust in callums case. It was a story about learning to love again and love yourself in the process.
Callum and Arista's story was wonderful. Callum was a jerk. At least for awhile he was a donkey. I loved Arista. She's wonderful.
This is my second of Amy's books where the rock star is a real jerk and the gals are super special.
Why would I read these books??.... because the author is deep enough to develop all the characters into caring decent family men and the story has lots of twists and this book has Gibson!!!
A superb follow-up to her debut but definitely can be a stand alone. I absolutely am obsessed with these characters as you should be with any great rock band.
My favorite parts are the interactions between the characters. So real. I feel like I know each of them.
The story between Callum and Ari is charged with lots of angst and passion in all the best ways.
Blending Chords is book 2 of the Blind Rebels and I thought book 1 was amazing (and it truly was) but OMG this one was also AMAZING!!!
Each book follows one of the band members this book followed Callum who is trying to find a nanny for Gibson his little boy. Well let's just say he tries his best to not fall for his nanny he hires but I think you can figure out how that's going to go.
Blending Chords is packed with ups and downs in the process of Callum trying not to fall for his child's nanny, and it has some very unexpected twist that happen. Trust me you don't want to miss it! Callum quickly became my new favorite band member during this book and Ari (the nanny) by his side is perfect! Don't worry if you have read book 1 and loved Mav and Kady, Sammy and Kill you get to see them all again in Blending Chords.
DNF. Where was the grovel???? This book had me until the 50% mark. I liked the story and Ari was a strong character. I thought she was going to give Cal hell for destroying her career which caused her to take crap jobs and work with extreme back pain because she lost her insurance and couldn't afford medication. She also had to sell her beloved car because she needed money. She hated him for what he did to her. I was all prepared for a Masterclass in groveling to win Ari back.
Instead Cal says sorry, throws money at her and begs her to come back to care for his kid and she goes right back. She was so broken and she goes back cause his kid is cute and he tells her how much his son misses her? Give me a break. Then it's like nothing ever happened. She's smiling at him, holding his hand, making out with him. The guy who destroyed your career. Girl turn around, you left your dignity behind you.
Also note that there is barely any character development when it comes to these two. You don't see how they fall for each other so quickly other than the mutual love of Cal's son. There is barely any on page conversations between these to for the reader to understand how they can feel romantic towards each other based on what few interactions they had one on one.
And finally, I was really pissed that in the beginning of their story, Cal gets super drunk for some strange reason and grabs Ari's hand and forces her to touch his crotch. This was before anything romantic happened and she was just the nanny. It is never mentioned again nor does Ari seem upset by her employer assaulting her.
Authors do better. Stop writing women as pathetic doormats and MMCs who don't know the definition of grovel.
I REALLY wanted to hate Cal. I WANTED to loathe him. I DESIRED to see his life go up in flames after learning a bit about him in the first book of this series. Amy Kaybach had other plans for me.
First of all Gibson is without a doubt the cutest boy I've ever read. Kaybach captures the joy of this little one perfectly and his speech patterns are exactly what a 2 year old sounds like. I can't wait to see his personality grow even more over the next 2 books.
The story of Cal and Ari begins with some drama but once it's straightened out their love grows quickly and intensely. Cal has made mistakes in his past, but gained a bright little boy. That's what brings Arista into his life. He wants to hate the nanny, but before long he's falling for her.
Even with her sad history Ari breathes new life into the struggling father and show him that he's worthy of love.
With each story in the series I'm falling more in love with the Blind Rebels!
Again the H was a prime asshole and he didn't grovel enough... Again the h problem were dismissed, and very little attention were given to what happened to her.
The bad guy deserved to DIE.
The fact, that the sister that was a nurse didn't realize what her horrible husband of TEN YEARS was doing just made me very very angry. No excuse at all!
4⭐️ Still really digging this series, but I liked this one just a skooch less than the book before it.
Now, I’m not a fan of the miscommunication trope especially when it’s between people who are a little older than the immature college age. So the main conflict here annoyed me although I could understand it better than Mav/Kady’s because Cal was looking at photo evidence. But he didn’t let Ari defend herself and blew up her whole career. Luckily this happens early on in the book and of course, our MCs patch things up to the point where there is a repeat of Ari’s “betrayal” and Cal doesn’t even entertain it. And I still can’t believe the guys let Todd spew his thoughts of Ari without at least a chin check.
And again, I love the side characters. Gibson’s baby babble talk is so adorable and watching Cal be the father he is makes my insides all warm and fuzzy. Sammy is still a salt of the earth kind of guy. Kady and Mav are still adorable and Mav is even sweeter now that his babe is here. Killian got major redemption points here and I’m glad he and Gibson are bonding again. My heart hurt a little when he was telling Ari how he felt replaced by Gibs and then her also because it’s been him and Cal for so long but they still have their twin thing going on.
Next up is Sammy’s book and you know there’s a storm brewing for this golden retriever so I’m curious how that’ll play out. He mentions a sister who we know isn’t with us and that also affects Kill so I am excited to learn more about Sammy…other than he’s a bottomless pit and for some reason never stays at his own place.
Ari: Kind Sweet Hard working Great with Kids Loving Supportive Strong
Cal: Good father Kind Caring Sometimes an ass Great with kids Loving Strong Talented
Single father/Nanny romance.
Loved it! Cal surprised me a little with hoe much of an A he was being towards Ari. But I could get it with him being a single father and struggling to have people help. Trust me I get that. It is a struggle. So I couldn't fault him too much for that.
How he betrayed Ari tho was just uncalled for. I don't see how he could do that. I get wanting to protect your kid but gotta get the whole story first. I'm glad he came around and made up for it.
Poor Ari having such a hard past with her Parents and Todd. But she's such a strong woman. I can relate to her in a few ways. She's good with kids and just adores Gibson.
Gibson I love seeing him in this story. He 2 in this book and I just love it.
I love how the whole band is a big family it is so sweet. Like I've heard it's not the family your born into its the one you make. And that's this band.
I loved seeing a diffrent side to Killian compared to how he was in the first book. I'm curious to see how much more his character develops in the series.
The ending.. omg had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down till I finished it. And then of course I finished it and gosh dang it Amy... I need to know what happens.
Time to get the next book.
Most liked Character: Ari Most disliked Character: Todd.
Callum is the guitarist of the Blind Rebels and a single dad to Gibson. He’s very protective of his son because the mom signed her rights away the minute he was born, she didn’t want Callum or Gibson. But the band members talk him into getting a nanny because he needs help and he knows he needs the help but doesn’t want to give up control. He hired Ari and she’s beautiful, smart and wonderful with Gibson but he treats her really badly to the point of tears. These two are just too cute together. Callum and his twin have issues from their childhood and very quickly you realize Ari’s childhood was even worse. When Callum and Ari give in to their feelings it was fireworks and Kindle explosion. This couple is so hot together and Gibson is adorable. I usually hate books with kids in storyline but this kid is heartwarming. This book grabs you from the first pages and doesn’t let you go, it’s a ride at high speed. It has awful parents, abusive caregivers and so many twists and turns that I’m actually holding my breath towards the end. I loved loved loved this book and I’m giving it five stars, highly recommend it. Can’t wait to read about Sammy, and all I can say is the author has a mean streak.
I was really getting into this book at first, until I wasn't. Three things that made no sense: 1- Callum, when he first went off on Ari that was uncalled for I ALMOST stopped reading this book, but I took a deep breath and continued reading. Then he turned on her again quickly which blew my mind. To make a long story short Callum was so annoying and he got on my nerves, he didn't deserve Ari, in fact she should have ended up with someone else.
2- Todd had no reason to put his hands on Ari, in fact that should not have been written into the story. It was corney and Ari was a grown women that was living her life. The time Todd told Callum what he did to Ari he should have been beaten within an inch of his life and taken straight to jail. End of his story. I don't know what the author was thinking.
3. Becca- really? She was barely mentioned in the story and she ends up being involved in Todd's plot. Extremely corney.
I give this book 3 stars, only because of Gibs, without him it probably would have been 1 1/2. I'm going to check Sammy's story out, but I will not torture myself if I don't like it this time, I'll just ditch it.
Having spent much of his life as a career for his twin, Callum now finds himself facing leaving Blind Rebels to care for Gib, his son. Ari's life has turned into one nightmare after another. She has lived with her sister since age 13 and even that has turned into a living hell. Working two jobs as a Teacher and Nanny she is praying for a way out into a better life. Enter Callum and Gib, the most adorable child ever, he needs a live in Nanny, she needs to escape, a match made in heaven? Ari quickly proves to this cold ass of a man that she loves his son and a tentative trust is built between the two until a party and an email destroys it all. This is such a fabulous read. A love story with so many twists in the background as the past comes back to haunt both Callum and Ari. Amy has written these characters so beautifully, it is impossible not to love them, particularly Gibson the young son, he is a hoot. I love the way the rest of Blind Rebels are woven through each story, truly a Band of Brothers. I loved the ' Hump Day' reference Amy snuck it there. This is a must read but please before you do grab this, go back and read Bridging The Silence first. You will NOT regret it and the story will be a much better experience because of it and you will avoid spoilers.
BOOK REVIEW Blending Chords By Amy Kaybach Five Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Okay I totally loved the first book in this series and I wholeheartedly loved this book!! I can understand why Callum is so protective and not wanting a nanny. But I seriously love that Kady helped Arista get settled in, but dang Callum being so rude and off putting I'm glad he realized what a jerk he was being. That party, the email and poor Ari not being listened to!?! Wow! A three month time jump! I love that Mav was kind to Ari and explained stuff to her but I can still understand the hurt she feels! Yes! He groveled for Ari to come back!! First Kiss!!! Wow their first time and admitting they want each other! The love Ari has for Gibson is amazing even after the rough crap she went through when she was younger and while on tour! She still protected Gibson. I love how Callum didn't judge her for her past. Aww that dinner under the stars scene!! Perfect!! Oh my gosh poor Ari and Gibson!! She did everything to protect him!! Awwwwww their wedding!!! Gosh!! I loved Ari and Callum so much!
Callum's two loves are colliding and not in a good way. He can't be the rockstar everyone expects him to be, and the father he wants to be without help. Help he doesn't want, but desperately needs. Arista will do anything to get out of her sister's house. She happily takes a nanny position and instantly falls in love with little Gibson. His father, not so much. Callum becomes insufferable as he fights his attraction to the nanny and the fact that she is exactly what him and Gibson need.
I love interconnected serieses, but I usually read book 1, and there isn't enough to draw me into the rest of the series. The Blind Rebels series is the exception. I loved Mav and Kady in book 1. The secondary characters were so well developed that I had to keep reading, and Blending Chords DID NOT DISSAPPOINT! It was better than the first book, and that is sometimes hard to do. Now onto find out what secrets Sammy is keeping!
After reading book one I couldn't wait to dive into Callum's story. The author does a great job with band inclusion, you really feel a connection with each member. But this book had a different feel for some reason IMO. Don't get me wrong, the story is solid, I love nanny books, it was more of the delivery. In the first book, Bridging The Silence, that story was seamless with great pacing, this one had time jumps and just for me didn't flow as well, which didn't let me feel the connection between Callum and Ari as much. In fact I thought what Callum did to Ari was pretty unforgivable and she gave in waaay to soon. Callum's toddler Gibson absolutely steals every scene he's in and Ari's love for the child is evident. I gave the book 4 stars, mostly because I do like the characters and with the way this ended, can't wait for September.
I loved Blending Chords so much. Callum was an arsehole at the beginning but we realise why as the book goes on. Ari was a wonderful character with a tough past. We slowly learn more about both Callum and Ari as the book goes on. And Gibson, wow, how I love Gibson. Such a fun 2 year old. Callum would give his life for his son and Ari is so strong and would do anything for Gibson. The story contains plenty of action and drama and make sure you read the trigger warnings first.
I loved the support from the other band members. Killian really comes into his own in this book. I feel this book is best read after Bridging the Silence, so you have the background of the band members. Amazing read!
Full review- I loved how there was a hint of traumatic past in both of the MCs. Their character development was great. I absolutely love Gibson and Ari’s relationship! I really liked the storyline, I wasn’t expecting it to follow the path it did. I do think the first spicy scene was kind of cringey and there wasn’t appropriate build up between the characters. There were times the next chapter or paragraph goes back in time to have the same scene from the other POV and it was confusing in the audio version. The writing felt a little younger. Overall, I enjoyed it but don’t think it beat the first one for me!
Second installment of Blind Rebels series was another excellent installment by Amy Kaybach. Amy has done a great job of making us love these characters. Callum is a single father, member of the blind rebels. Ari is a nanny that is hired to help with Gibson while Cal is touring with the band. We’ve got some drama, angst, love, forgiveness, & an overall great story. Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. Rockstar romances have been moved up on my favorite romance genre list!!
It’s fine, just like book 1 it’s a pretty standard romance following the grocery store paperback arch. Some really good moments that made me actually laugh out loud, however the climax of the book was just utterly ridiculous. The way the entire thing was handled was just straight poor writing. It was really really frustrating.
Overall these books are really decent for what they are and have a lot of potential to be great with a good editor.
Quick rockstar romance series. Book 1 was full of angst. This one, book 2, oh my word! It’s heartbreaking. It’s emotional. It’s lovely in the end. Callum is a hard man. Women have let him down his whole life, starting with his worthless mother. Then the worthless mother of his son, Gibson. Arista. Holy cow, that child and woman, what a horrible thing she’s lived through. But the absolute star here — Gibson. Gibson is a rockstar in his two year old glory. Pease? Tank you.
What a journey Ari and Callum went through. I love the way they both cared for, loved and cherished Gibson. Ari nearly lost her life protecting him. This series has so many characters you fall in love with. Kade and Mav and their story from Bridging The Silence, Callum and Ari from this one and Killian and Sammy. I’m thrilled that Becca and Todd are in jail for what they did! I loved this book and this series. Can’t wait for Sammy’s book! Highly recommend.
Love, love, love Gibson. He is the best part of this book. He will steal your heart. I'm a sucker for boy babies. Callum is a great dad that doesn't want a nanny but is forced to hire one. Arista is an excellent nanny & Gibs loves her. But Callum fights his attraction every step of the way. Ari has a troubled past that she is trying to escape. It's a good story with all the right components. I'm on to the next book in the series.
I love the way this woman writes! So many interesting details, so much unexpected action, so much emotion! Cal and his issues make for an unforgettable character (as well as his twin, Killian), and Ari is great, too. It was so nice to learn about all of the ways she took care of Gibson - who was an adorable two year old….maybe too good to be true.
This wasn’t exactly reviewed as being a thriller, but it certainly felt that way! I loved the love story of Callum and Arista with all its twists and turns. The only thing that keeps trying to keep them apart are their pasts…some of which are abusive. This was really good and well written.
