A thousand scars is a crime fiction, thriller and a mystery book. There's a insane serial killer roaming free in the streets of Kolkata, hunting young women. It started when Kalki sen gets kidnapped, though kidnapper said he would free her but she was later found dead in Ravindra sarobar lake of Kolkata.
This story I completely imagined and enjoyed, for I am residing in Kolkata and I could literally see everything happening in the street itself. Rabindra Sarobar now would never be the same for me, everytime I would visit there, this story will cross my mind and why not? This is how a book impacts our mind.
I loved the book, the story was flawlessly narrated from the beginning till the end. It was like a movie. The language used is simple and lucid. I would recommend this book to you if you're a crime fiction lover. A well written book I must say.

Unputdownable
I am a fan of detective mystry and Vikram Rana is one of my favourite characters. I read all his books. This series starts with a bang i would say. Although this book only have details of murders and a small intervention of Mr. Rana, I am looking forward for the sequel which will unfold the mystry.. warm wishes to Sharmistha maam for this beautiful book❤️❤️

There are only a few crimes that may haunt the mind of the readers quite like kidnapping genre do. The threat and the commination of being abducted from your own home, or from the place which you usually frequent is not only terrifying, but petrifying as well.
Yet, sadly at the same time, such a violation is something that happens all too often in real world and we see how just in an instant, the lives of the one who was kidnapped as well as the others related to them in one way or the other changes forever.
‘A Thousand Scars - Book 1 : The Hunter’ by author Sharmishtha Shenoy is one such gripping tale where we see this gut wrenching ordeal and a myriad of emotions, right from the panic inducing alerts to the heartbreaking pleas of family members desperate for answers and any information about their loved one.
At the beginning of the book, the readers are acquainted with the kidnapping of Kalki Sen and we might get a feeling that it would pertain only to her tribulations, however we soon come to know that she was just one of the many and thus begins the expedition of finding the culprit.
There were a few hints that were carefully planted in between the story, yet the answers to the questions are not showcased right until the very end, thereby keeping the readers hooked to the book through out. Hence I am going to give this book FIVE STARS⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A Thousand Scars is a crime thriller fiction read that primarily revolves around our main protagonist Kalki Sen who is kidnapped but her body is later found in a gruesome and bad state. Initially, as the course of the Kolkata Police’s investigation of this murder case begins, all fingers are pointing toward Kalki’s ex-boyfriend named Amit Ghosh. Later it emerges that there is a sadist serial killer who is behind these ghastly crimes. Finally, Amit’s mother turns to Vikram Rana for his help in order to prove that her son is innocent. The book is quick-paced and packed with thrills that will keep the readers hooked onto the end of the storyline. The cover art and title of the book have an intriguing and mysterious touch to them which will make the readers pick up this book at a first glance itself. The author has ensured that there are dollops of suspense spread throughout the plot and the language used is lucid and easy to grasp even for novice readers. Now I’m eagerly waiting for the next book in this series with bated breath and believe me once you finish reading this one, you will also do the same.

Very interesting book with lots of twists and turns
I totally loved the book. I have read all the books by the author and have been eagerly waiting for this one. It totally lived upto the expectations. The book is quick paced and we have to wait for the next part to know what happened next... If given a chance I want to meet this guy Vikram Rana. I'd fictional characters can be crushes then he's the one for me. He's fierce and sensitive at the same time. Couldn't wait for part 2 ❤❤❤❤

Apart from this, the book will engage every reader.
My Thoughts
Certain books remain in minds for a long time for various reasons. It might be the emotional attachment with the story and incidents or the characters. There are also some books where platonic love develops on some characters. In the same manner, Vikram Rana captures everyone's minds in Author Sharmishta Shenoy's books. This is my 4th book by the Author, and I am absolutely delighted to read this part of the next series.
The elements of sadistic serial killer, abduction, targeting young women and killing them and such that are needed for a thriller story are very much present in this book - A thousand scars, Book one: The Hunter!
Grammar & Vocabulary
A super-fine language with insisting vocabulary is found in the book. Unlike other books where Vikram Rana investigates, this book is more sophisticated and exciting.
Writing Style
This book has 21 chapters, and Author Sharmishta managed to retain the thrill till the end of the book. Every chapter renounces the excitement of the story to guess what the next chapter will be. Though there are places where the readers can comprehend the story, the writing just nabbed speculative minds.
What did I like?
1. The plot.
2. The descriptive narration.
3. The characters and their scope in the story.
4. Vikram Rana – the most desired person.
What could have been better?
The book is a reader's delight, and there is no chance to pick up any drawbacks.

Edge of the seat thriller. Tw: gory details by the psycho can get to your nerves.

Whenever I read a psychologicalthriller or watch a thrillermovie netflixseries , I try to get to the author/ script writer's brain & wonder, how can they think & write such things? Can a normal person, no matter how creative he is, think of such stuff??...
athousandscars is one such thrillerbook . Although we, the reader knew the culprit right in the first half of the story, the authorities/ police fail to nab him till the very end. The gruesome modus operandi was repulsive & requires a triggerwaring . It was an excruciatingly painful attempt to read through the #psychopath 's musings.. yes he penned everything.
I would recommend this book only to a seasoned reader & not a beginner. psychologicalthrillers
mess up my brain's wiring although I have read quite a couple of em. Although I love the reading experience, the narrative but I detest going into the head of such individuals who need some solid therapy. And this doesn't happen in the fiction world only, I feel psycho 's are increasingly at the drop of a hat in the real world around us. Pick any day, the news would confirm these facts.
What could be the reason? Scarred childhood 💔 ? abuse? Broken family? Failure on part of parents/ school to give enough time, space to the kid? Absence of someone who could understand the individual? Or it could be a disease, the person could be mentally sick just the way we get physically unwell.
A thousand scars is a fast paced, well written edge of the seat thrillerbook
It also shows how general inefficiency, corruption gives way to convicting the wrong person & letting the real criminal walk away scott free.
The prejudice shown in the story w.r.t. religion makes the story realistic & I feel people, esp. girls need to be more alert & cautious in their day-to-day life like they say satarkrahesurakshitrahe

After a very long time,I read a book in thriller genre.This book just made me fall in love with thrillers again.
Normally,I pick books on the basis of the blurb but this time I picked because of the author.I first saw the author and her works.And to my amusement she has written many books and all the books are thrillers or a murder mystery.So of 3-4 books I picked this book and I am glad that I picked this book.
The murder mystery of this one is so amazing.The climax and the culprit is unexpected.There are only few books in which we can't predict who the real culprit was and how the story will take a turn now and this was one of those reads for me.
I was amused by the writing style of the author.The author has kept the writing style very intriguing.
Also,the author knows how to make a story a gripping one.The way in which she has maintained the pace and plotted twists on the most unexpected areas was loved by me.
For me this one book is amazing and I will recommend this book to everyone to read.If not this book,then any of the author's book because I know atleast one of it you will enjoy.I am going to add all of her books in my TBR now right away.

A Thousand Scars: Book 1 - The Hunter by Sharmistha Shenoy is a fictional story of the thriller genre. It’s packed with suspense and unexpected twists and turns. The author keeps you on your feet through the entirety of the book.
The story is centred around the killing of Kalki Sen , she has been abducted and killed and soon after , her body is found in a lake. The Kolkata police is on it. The officers investing this case are ACP Das and Vikram Rana. Their prime suspect is Kalki’s ex.
As the story progresses , more people are being killed. Turns out Kalki isn’t the only victim of this brutal killer , he is a serial killer and he’s on the hunt for victims. The case gets more and more thrilling by every turning page. Amit , Kalki’s ex is suspected to be the killer and they are convinced that it’s him however it’s not outright proven so you never know.
Like I’ve mentioned earlier things take a turn for the worse after every page or so and you never see it coming , the culprit is extremely smart and manages to outsmart our officers every time. If you’re into thrillers this is definitely your cup of tea and even if you’re not you might have a change of mind cause trust me it’s pretty engaging.
Everything from the narration to the writing to drawing out the characters is impeccably done. The language used is simple and easy to comprehend , the narration makes you visualise the scenes so vividly , I’m absolutely smitten by the writing style of the author. I most definitely recommend this book.

We all have often heard and seen flicks in which a murderer is on a killing spree and has different sadistic ways to commit crimes. But this novel goes one step ahead as here the kidnapper promises to let go of his victim but eventually kill her every single time.
The story begins with the disappearance of Kalki Sen .The incident which seems like a one off and a usual one soon turns into something having a long trail behind. After investigation it is found that Kalki is just one of the various persons who were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Her ex boyfriend Amit is taken under radar by ACP Das and police attempts to frame him for other related crimes as well. Though Amit's mother Gargi is resilient to prove her son's innocence. Will the culprit be caught? Grab the book to find out.
The novel is written well. Enough hints have been planted at various junctures that gives an insight into who can be the mastermind behind all these crimes but whenever a reader feels he has got the hold , story takes a turn. So suspense element is well planned by the author . Though story doesn't get a proper closure for obvious reasons as the title itself suggests it is just the first part and few more to come in this riveting series.

Or is the killer playing mind games with the police?
An amazing twisty plot that gets the readers so absorbed in the story! The writing style is amazing and fluent in every way that it helps the readers actually get into the streets of Kolkata! The characters are well built and storyline is steadfast , overall a book I would recommend to people who love crime thrillers and mystery. Can't wait to read book 2 from the author!

In Sharmishta Shenoy's A Thousand Scars, we follow Kalki Sen, a kidnapped woman whose mutilated body is later discovered decaying. The kidnapper calls Kalki's mother just before he does anything. But Amit, her ex-boyfriend, is now being held in the highest regard.
In order to find the killer, Vikram Rana and ACP Das are working in different teams and employing different methods. The author continues to surprise the reader with new twists and turns, such as the revelation that Kalki is not the only target of this case.
The author has done a great job of portraying this thief as a smart person. In the dialogues, the characters are well-defined and entertaining as a result. I was enthralled by the authenticity of the story's narration, which left the reader eager for more.

This book is a just next level murder mystery and crime thriller. The story is very captivating and the author takes us to a journey of Kalki Sen who was kidnapped and soon after her mutilated body was found. In this whole matter, her ex boyfriend became the prime suspect.
It was really intriguing to turn the pages to find out the killer
The book was not at all boring and has new twists awaiting in each chapter which makes this book a fast paced mystery.
The language and narration is also nicely done to make this book really advanced and even the story is really complex and engaging.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to recommend it to others.

It's a Vikram Rana Mystery, Book One: The Hunter. The book is written by Sharmishtha Shenoy. I have also read some other works of this author and what I loved is the newness which is very rare in current time books. The book is based on the idea of a murder mystery and solving this mystery. It's a gripping thriller and there is no doubt about it. The book narrates the story of kidnapping which is on a very grand scale in the city of Kolkata. Kalki Sen is a lead character in this book she is kidnapped and the blames goes to her ex whose name is Amit. But later on, it emerges that she is not only the single target of the kidnapper. Everyone thinks that it's a full proof of planning Amit himself but Amit's mother Mrs Gargi Ghosh turns to Vikram Rana to save his son. Now, the prime thing is that who is the killer who finds ultimate gratification in torturing and killing young women? Is it Kalki's ex Amit? Or someone else. The Author Sharmishtha Shenoy is a well-known contemporary writer and she has written it.
The book has a broader narrative tone which depicts the idea of serial killing or you can say it's a story of a psycho killer who finds ultimate enjoyment in torturing and killing young women of the city. The prime victim of this thing is Amit who is the ex of the protagonist Kalki Sen who is also kidnapped. ACP Das wants to hang him and baying for his blood but Amit's mother took the help of Vikram Rana who himself is a man of contradictions to save her son.
The book has everything which a genuine reader looks for it. It deals with the theme of sexual perversion, vicious violence and intuitive intelligence.
I have enjoyed this book very much for its simplicity of language, character sketches and plot construction. Thus, if you are a serious reader and looking for fresh, new and worth-it reading, please go for this. Kudos to the Author.

I always love to read mysterious books and crime thrillers and the title of this book made me so curious to read this book. The story gripped me from the opening chapter and left me in suspense right up to the last chapter.

The book "The Hunted" by Sharmishtha Shenoy, the first in the series "A Thousand Scars," intrigued me with its mysterious title. The story immediately drew me in and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
The book is a crime thriller about a serial killer who targets young girls. The plot centers around the murder case of Kalki Sen, investigated by Kolkata Police ACP Das and Vikram Rana. Kalki Sen is kidnapped and her mutilated body is later found in Rabindra Sarobar lake.
As I read, I felt as if I was working alongside Vikram Rana and ACP Das to solve the case, with the clues and locations described in the book feeling incredibly realistic.

For those who have already read the first book, the second installment of this series by Sharmishtha Shenoy is an absolute delight.
This book picks up right where the first book left off, and the gripping story will captivate readers from the very first page. The author's portrayal of the twisted mindset of a psychopathic killer is both compelling and chilling.
Throughout the book, there are numerous incidents that reveal the psychopathic tendencies of the characters, and the mystery that unfolds will keep readers engaged until the very end.
It is hard to imagine that such things could happen in real life, but this book serves as a reminder that psychopaths are present in all walks of life, and can cause untold harm to those around them.
For those interested in the thriller genre, I would highly recommend this book, but I would suggest reading the first installment beforehand in order to fully appreciate the plot.

My review after reading the second book in the series:-
Rambling of a Reader:-
I feel so angry about reading this second book of the series. I gave the first book 5 stars but the writing of this book is absolutely diabolical. About 150 pages in, I guessed who is the killer and correctly so and write has also given some clue by which anyone can guess and I thought it is deliberately as the author wants readers to guess it beforehand. But, after reading the book, I feel that that is not the case. The officials in the books are interviewing everyone but the killer but they could have done so. Vikram Rana seems to be a not so good detective at his job. Overall rubbish book. This is the problem of every Indian Writers, they start writing well opening many suspense full storylines but don't know how to close those open ends. This book has many loopholes. Overall rubbish book. I am giving 2 stars instead of one only because it is related to the first book. A veteran crime thriller reader can avoid this book. Also I think that about all the reviews here on goodreads are paid.

The book " A Thousand Scars " is written by Sharmishtha Shenoy . The book is very well written and the author has tried to come up with a very different concept . The book is a murder thriller and the plot is set in Kolkata by the author . The story revolves around the kidnapping of Kalki Sen whose mother was threatened by the kidnapper . But she wasn't released until her corpse was found in the Rabindra Sarovar lake . The Kolkata police is searching this kidnapper and putting every efforts for the every trail they are detecting . The Kidnapper is also playing his games at the same time trying to confuse the police . The story is very thrilling because of the suspense and the twists plotted by the author . Talking about the title of the book it is appropriate and catchy . The cover of the book is very creative yet mysterious . The book is recommended to everyone .

A Thousand Scars,is an exceptionally written suspense and thriller novel revolving around the murder of Kalki. Kalki,who had been kidnapped but assured for a release by the criminal while being informed to her mother.
But,the sad part is finding Kalki's corpse at Rabindra Sarobar Lake. Being into the eyes of the police the first one to be assumed to be the convict is Amit.
But is the tale so simple or there is more to the story. A series of murders and torture of women that will show a new spectrum of criminal abducts.
Read and enjoy the best of criminal fiction penned well to captivate you by the author. Great narrative and an exquisite plot.

Two detectives, both have accomplished great tasks and are respected by everyone for their accomplishments. They both are assigned to the same case. The case is quite tricky and it seems impossible to catch the killer. The killer is sharp, witty and fast with his actions. How will they challenge the killer? Read this book to find out.
I was thrilled after reading the storyline. Two great minds working together on a task was one of the best thing in the narrative. The climax packs a punch. I would recommend my fellow readers to check out this book.
