Emily
It's been seven years since I left Pink Ridge in a hurry.
Seven years since I ran away from my sister, from my mom, and from him.
When mom passes, it's time to face the music and head back to the small town where I grew up.
The small town where I started a family with Grayson.
Or at least, we tried.
I'm not excited about returning. About facing up to old memories and old wounds.
I'm even less enthusiastic about seeing Gray.
Partly because I broke his heart when I took off running.
And partly because, no matter how hard you try, running away from your problems doesn't solve them.

Grayson
Life's sort of been on pause since Emily left.
I haven't looked at another woman since.
How could I? Emily broke my damn heart when she disappeared.
While I miss her like crazy, seeing Emily in Pink Ridge again is hard to handle.
The second she comes back, it's like the last seven years never happened.
It's as if we were never apart.
I have no idea if she's going to stick around.
But for now, I'll take any opportunity I can to spend even a shred of time with the love of my life.

There's plenty to like about Pink Ridge. Pink sunsets, babbling brooks, and scenery that looks like a picture-perfect green screen. It's the ideal place to settle down and find love. And while they say that love conquers all, life can be hella resourceful. This mountain man romance series revolves around enemies and lovers finding common ground, and broken couples who get that second chance at instalove.

The Mountain Between Us is a five-book, steamy small town romance series that features younger girls and older mountain men. Cozy up in bed, grab your e-reader, and take a glimpse into Mount Break. There's no cheating and no cliffhangers here, and each of these steamy short reads can be picked up as a standalone.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.

Emily is returning to her hometown of Pink Ridge, she had run from everything there seven years again and now with her mother’s death she knew that she could run no more, it was time to return to the only real place that she has thought of as home, the place where her heart broke and she lost the man she loved Grayson and the family they were building together. Emily knows that she broke Grayson’s heart when she left town after they lost their baby and she has never truly dealt with her feelings so when she bumps into Gray things that she had buried come back to the surface, her love for him has never died but is she brave enough to let him in again and will he forgive her for leaving seven years ago?

Grayson has spent the last seven years missing the only woman he has loved; his high school love up and left him after their daughter died. He has wondered for years if there was anyway that he could have done anything to make things right for her but ultimately knows that he did all he could and had to live with the loss of not only his child but his one true love as well. He is shocked when they literally run into each other and discovers the feelings he once had for her are still very much there, but seven years have past since they last saw one another could they start again, or have they missed their chance?

This book broke my heart a little bit reading of their loss and sadness, I understood Emily’s reason for running in the way that she did it was just a shame that she thought she could run away from the pain of losing a child and it did feel like Grayson’s feelings didn’t really ever impact her. This was an emotionally packed short read that left me with a tear and a smile. 4.5* Read.

Emily and Grayson . . .

Emily does not deal well with things that go wrong. When she lost a child, despite others who also were in pain, she ran away without a word to anyone, as if her own pain was the only thing that was real. Until her mother died and her sister tracked her down, telling her to come back and pack up the house and attend the funeral, she had no intention of coming home to those she callously left behind.

Despite her fear of everyone’s reaction at seeing her again, everyone greeted her and welcomed her back. Gray helped her with the difficult task of packing the baby’s things stored in the closet. Old feelings stirred again. Would she give Gray a second chance? He did nothing to deserve her cold attitude. Or would it take her sister Sienna’s comment about other people suffering as well, not just her. She needed to deal with what happened and begin to live again. Is she ready yet to make a decision about the rest of her life?

Emily is a someone who runs from her problems. She basically wallowed in her own grief and left everyone behind until her sister literally showed up on her doorstep after their mother’s death. Emily is not a great person and she knows she is in the wrong. She lashes out at Grayson when he has done nothing wrong and it is solely because of her tunnel vision in the past. Gray has gone above and beyond for the community and her family. I like Sienna’s take charge attitude and she is willing to tell Emily the truth without being too harsh, but not sugarcoating it either.

This book is a short, sweet, sad, and steamy small mountain town second chance romance. Grayson and Emily were once engaged but after a major loss, Emily ran away to California. A little possible trigger warning, this book deals with the loss of a child and the depression that ensued afterwards. When Emily comes back to her hometown to help her sister with the loss of their mother, Grayson sees it as the opportunity for another chance. Will Emily stop running and find her happy ending with the man she never stopped loving?

Emily is back home for her mother’s funeral. Being back brings painful memories for her, but at the same time, she learns that when you run away from your problems, they run with you.
Grayson has gone on with his life without being able to forget the love of his life. He has always been close to her family helping and taking care of them when needed.
A very emotional reading with some gaps in the story.

The author has given us a heart wrenching story that pulls us into the lives of Emily and Grayson and does not let go. Each of them deal with emotional pain differently but somehow they must learn to deal with it together.

This was a short but cute story. It was great to read about the second chance between Grey and Emily. I love quick reads with happy ending. I wonder who is next to find love.
