London, 1987. As Dorian and Tobias approach their first anniversary, each reflects on the time they’ve spent with one another. From the day they first met on the Royal Crescent to their most recent adventures in Mayfair, both have secrets they’ve been concealing from the other… but now is the time to make their most heartfelt confessions.

To DorianSide A - Oh brilliant! Wonderfully atmospheric and gothic. Perfect for a Halloween listen!
To TobySide B - And HERE’s the bite! Ohhhh it’s delicious! And made all the more so because I’m listening to it on Halloween. What a treasured experience (Perfect timing Big Finish, Perfect Timing).
Bonus track: Gray Matters - Currently, this is only available with the download of this anniversary release. It’s sort of an introduction to who Dorian Gray is. At least the Big Finish Productions version of Dorian Gray as he appears in the various Confessions. And then it pivots off into a tangential tale, another confession from Dorian. Vlahos does a wonderful job. It easy to see how much he loves this character, it comes through in every word.
And it’s perfect that it’s released on vinyl! The perfect format for something like this. Perfect. Perfect! PERFECT! I cannot describe just how precisely appropriate this format is for this particular story, confession. But wait, there’s more: The download also includes fascinating and charming Behind-the-Scenes conversation between Alexander Vlahos and Scott Handcock and another with Hugh Skinner and Handcock. There’s also an isolated music suite. Absolutely great stuff.
The Confessions of Dorian Gray is one of my favorite Big Finish series. It was nice to revisit the characters of Dorian and Tobias, it's not the best of the stories. So, I'd suggest skip this and listen to the main series.
I went mental when it was announced we’d get one last Dorian story, on vinyl (not to mention with a gorgeous art print signed by Alexander Vlahos). Listening to it on download you do not lose the genius experimentalist with which the vinyl format is used. It’s not your usual adventure, more that it’s two stories: one from Dorian one from Toby, that can be played in any order. A small supernatural adventure that shows to us the sacrifices they’ve made for the other and highlights how truly they love one another. The adventures are nothing groundbreaking but they are fun little supernatural stories, and the acting from both are on top form. The little monologues they give as they make out they are recording these adventures themself are so beautiful and add so much emotion and beauty.
The additional short story on download is great, and just a lovely little freebie that gives you even more of Vlahos’ brilliant narration to tell a lovely horror story to add to the Dorian Gray timelines. That plus the main release itself make this a must buy and if you can get the vinyl addition even better, because it is incredible to have a story that works better in a different audio medium than download and you actually do enhance the experience by complying.
