The Daniels family is relocating again for the military. This move is a bit different because Dad is deployed. Paige, the oldest child does her best to step up and help her mom get the house in order. While doing so, Paige stumbles across a strange mask, among other items in the attic. Odd things continue to happen in the house, raising a red flag for the family.

I thought Deadly Secrets was intriguing. Watching the details slowly unfold to reveal what happened inside 33 Greyshott Close was thrilling. Paige seems to be the one that is really in tune to the spirit or spirits in the house. She starts to feel like she’s going crazy with the noises she’s hearing until Griff mentions hearing and seeing things, too. From here things only get worse for the family.

Paige was an enjoyable character for me. She’s a strong-willed, no-nonsense kind of girl. She stepped up throughout the story for her family, and by the end of the book Paige had enough with the haunting and tried to take matters into her own hands. I look forward to finding out what else happens to Paige and her family in the next book.

If you like stories about haunted houses, this one is worth checking out. There is a bit of a slow buildup to what is happening, but I didn’t feel it took away from the story, especially considering this is a series.

I enjoyed this read. It definitely has an adult Goosebumps feel to it which I liked. I just wish more detail would of been added to the ghosts and the ending. I want to thank Duncan Brockwell and Raven Tale Publishing for the free ecopy.

I DO like it when I can make an instant connection to a storyline. And as soon as I saw the blurb to S.C. Fisher’s Deadly Secrets: Base Fear, it took me back to my childhood. One where I lived in a genuine, real life, haunted house . . . and years later, after joining the military, the happy times I spent yomping all over the Brecon Beacons in atrocious weather.
See if you can pick up a similar vibe:

There’s an old adage that shows its true value here: Write what you know.
And it’s obvious that S.C. Fisher ‘knows’ Wales and the military way of life very well. You can see that in the terms and expressions she uses throughout the narrative. And that’s a good thing, as it adds a simple realism to her story that helps you connect to what’s going on. You’re there with the Daniels family as they endure the drudgery of yet another move; the tedium of having to unpack and settle in, again; of having to find their feet in a familiar (military) and yet, unknown new community with its own way of doing things. And we can all relate to what’s it’s like, getting a ‘feel’ for your new house. . .
But when that house possesses a well known – only whispered about – secret that can literally come back to haunt you? Ah, THAT’s another thing entirely, as the Daniel’s family start to find out on their very first night there.
The question(s) is/are: If people know what went on there, why don’t they speak openly about it? And why do the military allow new families to move in when it’s obvious conditions there aren’t right? Because, when events escalate from things that go bump in the night to actual physical harm? Well, something’s gotta give!
Deadly Secrets; Base Fear. A refreshing example of how to write a paranormal thriller.

Fisher has done a phenomenal job in setting up what I believe will be one hell of a creepy horror series. In this first book we follow Paige as she and her family move into a new house—one with plenty of dark secrets, as they soon discover. It’s a story that leaves crumb after unsettling crumb as you go along, from vicious magpies in the attic to worry dolls missing their heads. All the while, we can’t help but warm up to the family, especially Paige and her younger brother Griffin.

It’s a quick read that isn’t afraid to take its time and let the horror unfold at a steady pace. At the same time, it keeps you hooked as things get ever more alarming with the house and its influence on certain family members.

I’ll be sure to check out the other books, and I definitely recommend giving this one a go. You’ll be sucked in before you know it.

Tense Tale for Teens (and adult horror lovers!)

I was hooked from the start of this book! It took me on a journey, far from a typical tale of a haunted house. I loved that it was set on an RAF base and followed a military family, really unusual. I felt connected to the main character Paige from the start, then the twists, tension and atmosphere kept me guessing and shuddering all the way through. I won't give any spoilers but you are not going to put this one down! Perfect for teens and also adults who loved the R.L.Stine books of the 90s.

Amityville Horror meets American horror story and I am here for it. I do think book one and two could have been one book but it didn't make a huge difference I just started right away on the book 2 and it is just as good. Well written. I did look up a couple terms I did not know and found it accurate. I did not have to look up the terms to understand the book. I was just curious if it was like a real thing. I love when I can do that. Great read! Add all of them onto your Kindle and keep your weekend booked up!

I am the last person to say ghosts do not exist. I love a good haunted house book. This book is different in that it did not take long for the spirits of the house to show themselves. Mom begins to change and both of the older kids had experience with some evil type of entity. I was totally engrossed in my reading when the last sentence came and the book was over! Noooooooo! I wanted more. I even turned back a few pages to make sure I had not missed anything. Now to find the next book.
