Montague thinks he has found a way around his curse by purchasing the indentured servant Daliyah to serve as his next meal and tumble. If his appetites should overwhelm her, it would be a pity, but, if need be, he would move on to his next victim.
But his brother, Addison, threatens to upend Montague’s plans when he falls in love with the gentle maid.
Devastated that she now belongs to the Earl of Blackbourne, Daliyah finds comfort in the company of the kindly Mr. Addison Brooke. But when she discovers the truth behind his lordship’s darkness, can she escape before she succumbs to his thirst for blood and his desire for flesh?
I wasn't sure things could get worse after the first book (granted, I gave that one 2 stars) but...wow. What the f**k was that???
**Ugly and the Sucking Spoilers**
Typically, I love a good Beauty and the Beast romance, but I know it's a sub-genre that has been done over and over and over, and so I understand when writers want to tackle this classic fairy tale in a new light. And I've read some rather dark versions over the years, so the understanding that this was a "dark romance" didn't put me off. But...wow. Look, I get it, he's a monster (both figuratively and literally). He's a blood-sucking fiend; he snarls, he growls, and sees women as objects for his pleasure--he's a beast, I get it! But...even the beast had *something* resembling decency and humanity buried beneath all that gruffness.
Look, I'll not beat around the bush, this series is triggering. . I will say that of the "dark romances" I've read out there, this might be the darkest. And fine, if this makes me a "sweet summer child" because I couldn't handle its darkness? Then I'll happily take that moniker while skipping through the sunlit fields of sanity.
Everyone pretty much pissed me off in this book. The vampire, his brother, and even the heroine, because she just seemed to roll over and become a doormat for both men. And dang it, I was pissed that the horrible people from the first book just more or less walked away scot free; why couldn't they get their throats ripped open before leaving?
Ugh, I'm rambling; I can barely get my thoughts together. And frankly, I don't want to spend more time than I have to talking about this God-awful series. This was book 2 in a trilogy, and no, I will not be seeking book 3. 1 star, though I would rate it less if Goodreads allowed me to.
Amazing, I can’t get enough of Addison, Daliyah and Lord Blackbourne. They are an odd bunch but as time goes on and healing from a near death experience. I feel a bond is being forged, as well as secrets are being revealed and love is in the air. Now all that is left is for all the misunderstandings and truth to be revealed between them all. Before that Lord Blackbourne really needs to get rid of his I am great attitude. I must admit he is starting to change for the good . As well as Mr. Brooke, he is getting stronger and making his voice heard.I have to give Daliyah credit for taking care of Addison and trying to understand Lord Blackbourne. I can’t say I’m any closer to figuring out this bond but, I am even more curious as to Lord Blackbourne breaking his curse and what will come of Miss Cameron. Needless to say I am so looking forward to the final book in this series.
If you like historical romances, vampires and manage a trois then I recommend this book. Even though it says a dark paranormal, I found it to be more suspenseful then dark. I read both books 1-2 so be warned there's a third book its not out yet but I liked the story and characters enough that want to know how it ends so when book 3 comes out I'll purchase it .
I bought this book because upon reading book 1 free I had to see how far this story progressed. Normally I don't get sucked in by cliff hangers but this one was the exception. I'm so glad I did because things really got ramped up in book 2. Now I have ordered book 3 because I have to read this story to the end! Its an exceptional story to be sure and I'm enjoying every minute of it!
