Trauma and Discovery

Sabrina Bryant stopped shifting when she was only ten. A traumatic incident that she can’t remember and is helpless to do anything to change so she can shift. After two failed relationships, she was beginning to believe there was a reason she was never good enough for her father. She was worthless and no one would want her. So, when he arranged a political mating for her with none other than Benjamin Hurst, she was left reeling.

Benjamin Hurst grew up knowing his older brother would be the Alpha of their clan. It was something he was prepared for, and more than okay with. When his brother announced that he would be leaving, though, it thrust him into a position he was not prepared for. Alpha of the Hurst Family Clan.

The two are forced together, feeling they have no choice in the matter and must figure things out as they go and where they stand with one another. Unable to shift, Sabrina has no clue Ben is her mate, but he can sense it, and is willing to do anything to keep her safe.

When they learn Sabrina might be the only chance in defeating Pickens and his army, they find themselves fighting alongside the Independence Clan to save not only what they have just started to build, but the entire town. Will they be able to discover secrets kept hidden, and themselves before time runs out?

I started my journey as a reader but quickly learned how much I enjoyed everything about romance, so I picked up the pen in 2017 and haven't looked back. Writing various genres, paranormal romance is my go-to. However, I do have a few mysteries and contemporary romances under my belt.

My favorite books involve characters that aren't perfect and have room to grow or a good mystery you can't easily solve. With each new book, I keep this in mind and enjoy creating complex worlds where my characters take the stage.

When I am not creating fantastic new worlds for my readers to get lost in, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my two rescue dogs, Sammie and Jake.

I'm really disappointed with this story.
The entire first 20-25% of the book is spent recapping what happened in the first 3 books. Which might be good for someone who hasn't read any of the other books in this series. But as someone who has read the others I feel that rather than spend that much doing a recap, the author could've given us a look into the beginning of Sabrina and Benjamin's mating life. I would've liked to have gotten to see Sabrina bloom under Benjamin's love and understanding, rather than see them meet then get a "2 years later" and they're already in the I love you's and why aren't we having cubs, stage.
These two were mated for political reasons, but when Ben first lays eyes on Sabrina he knows she is his one and true mate. However, Sabrina doesn't get the same message because she has a recessed bear that she hasn't spoken to since she was 10. They've been together for almost 6 years now and still have yet to feel the complete mating bond and both Ben and Sabrina feel they are the reason for it, but instead of talking about it with each other it's all inner dialogue of how they feel they are responsible and the other deserves so much better.
While all of this is going on the Independence bear clan and the Hurst bear clan are locked in an ongoing battle against Pickens who is determined to get to the mines the Independence clan sits on to get the supplies needed to create a super-soldier race. But the bear clans have the secret weapon in Sabrina to defeat Pickens once and for all.
By the end of all this, Benjamin is injured, Sabrina saves the day and they finally get to experience the mating bond. But we still never get to find out why they never experienced it prior to that day. Was it the stress they were both under with the battle, was it Sabrina finally gaining confidence in herself, or even gaining her angel powers? I really need to know this stuff!

At the end of the day, I'm glad that everything is finally wrapped up.
What I'm not so happy with is that Benjamin has a weak mate who literally took 6 YEARS to finally get an ounce of a backbone, and at the end in the epilogue after everything her family put her through she's eating Thanksgiving dinner with them as if there was never an ounce of verbal abuse throughout her childhood.

I wasn't impressed that the first part of the book jumped around re-telling us all the things that many of us had already read if you start from the first book. They tell us items from Benjamin and Sabrina's marriage but then skip from anywhere from 6 months to six years after. Also recapping about Picken and his plans for all those in his way. Perhaps if it had only been about the couple and their life together ( and what they are fighting for also included) But 6 years is a long time to skip out on Benjamin and Sabrina's life. Maybe if Sabrina could have learned more about why she couldn't shift sooner, would that have changed their lives for the better. I don't know what could have happened with them but more about them would have been more interesting to me.

This book may be named for Benjamin but to my mind Sabrina is the real heroine of the book. She has survived a horrific childhood and thrived as Benjamin’s mate. I loved watching her grow and them getting over on the bad guys. This is a terrific addition to the series and although it can be read standalone I feel like you’ll enjoy it more if you’ve read the previous books.

Benjamin mates with Sabrina for political reasons. Her father is a jerk to her because she can't shift. Pickens is still causing trouble for Corbin and his clan. Can Ben and Sabrina help them solve the problem with him and his mercenaries?

I was impressed, on how everything was wrapped up in the end, except for Sabrina's father issues. This is a good series to read and get lost in. Really enjoyed how this Author writes and draws you in.

I enjoyed the wrap-up of the attacks on the Shifters. I was hoping for some closure regarding Sabrina's fathers treatment of her. This series is a must read.
