One war has drawn to a close, but another has just begun.
It was supposed to be an easy victory lap in the capital city, but life around Thorn is never that simple. New responsibilities, underhanded nobles, a shadowy cult, and a struggle for the throne of Northern Angoril all promise to make life exciting...if he can survive.
Thorn falls deeper into the political struggles of the Empire when the capital is rocked by a terrible murder and is forced to learn that not all problems can be solved with the heavy end of his tetsubo. New allies and new enemies emerge as Thorn races to stop a catastrophe that will shake the entire world of Nova Terra.
This was a let down for me. Nerfing an MC is a cop-out to me. Give the MC more complex problems or better baddies, but to get to book 7 and write flat out the MC is getting hard nerf says, to me, that yall didn't have a plan for the story and it should have come to a close. Like, the earlier curse was at least an opportunity to grow if he tried. This was just crap.
Spoilers:
The story, tried to be something else then a game world. We got the MC divested of supporters, we got the mc getting his love interest back in the same city, we got the start of a mentorship, we got cucked out of a story when it all lacked emotion and the things just stopped. Mentor left after literally stateing he had limited time and it'd be better if MC stayed in the same house for training ease. Mc's love interest come home and it's all meh, good your back. Mc has a monster guild and just letting it flounder with no fucking leadership. Mc takes nerf after nerf and for what? Same story as pervious and reused.
What was irritating as all shit was that literally everything had the same fucking outcome. Kill ghost inhaled dragon or end times. Investigate thing or end times. Stop badies or bad thing. Save the race of zenophobes or end times. Just kick off the end times already and stop with the crap quests. Also I don't know who works for a quest Reward of "various" but it feels like a cop-out as well.
That the MC is using the position of King with other countries but not actually doing anything related to that area is a cop-out. MC is literally stateing several times in this book how he should have the responsibility of his station and not the perks but didn't actually live that is BS.
Weak plot and story all round. I found myself skipping over stupidly long battle scene after battle scene as they all read the same. Badies bad, MC strong tries to hit thing but misses a few times then gets solid hit, Badies get smashed. MC does silly thing that makes his allies go away or face palm. Repeat at nauseum.
The whole story trudged in one direction with no care what the characters do. Their actions are immaterial. They do not matter, this story will get from A to C with no regard what B is, who wants to read that?
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. I am simply saying that I liked it. I would like you to read it and make your own decision. After all, you are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
I will happily discuss the book with you on Goodreads if you are so inclined. As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
This is the 7th book, and yet, there are still so many open threads. We get more epic quests, and it seems Thorn has never got enough time to enjoy the game. Velin return to the group, and yet it seems that the interactions between her and thorn were more distanced than before she left. The cliff hanger at the end of this book is pretty extreme, and for me personally, it felt like we're back in the place we started. I'm excited to see where the series goes, but it would be nice to get some solid resolution at the end of a book.
Thorn has become the center of the Game. A World Boss. He has shown that he cares for everyone and then himself lastly. Difficult Quests are completed and then he gets more. The players that stay with him also get involved in the quests. Stormbringer is an increadably powerful lighting spell for warriors not magicians and he needs to learn it to save a city from self destruction. Can't give it away, gonna have to see for yourself!
I am seven books in and I believe the story is still too slow. That doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy it, but I think the progression could be faster. The mc character is a likable, chap. even though there is no magic metrics in the game. I don’t see the main character, growing as much, he hast to work for every bit that he gets. This may be your type of series if you want to see a character struggle. It is not mine, but I’m reading it because the story is interesting. I want to see where the story goes
I saw this coming, and was warned it would happen, but yes, the series is losing me. I got nearly half-way through without anything meaningful happening and skimmed the rest. Some movement, but nowhere near enough to keep me engaged. Not sure I can be bothered to keep going.
Is This The Beginning Of A Redemption Arc For A Former Foe?
Politics! It is a filthy business pursued by vipers who walk like people. Yet civilization doesn't seem to be able function without it. Torn finds himself enmeshed in the political maneuvering of the Northern Empire of Angoril's many factions when he accepts the offer to become the heir of the Ironhold Duke. He probably would have been better off to have slept in.
The seventh book in the series; this is part of a LitRPG series which may appeal to those who don't care for the blocks of statistics which are common to the genre.
Not sure if this truly deserved this rating. A young lady accompanied the Second Prince to the feast and chatted with him, but when he died in the previous book, she vanished. Not a word. Nor any word from the emperor and empress about his death. And in a critical scene in this book with the emperor, the empress sits passively and accepts the situation? Two books remain to maybe explain the sometimes odd behavior of important side characters. Average editing. And, of course, the obligatory cliffhanger ending.
Another amazing arc of Thorn’s shows a deeper story
Involving the Devils that have plagued Thorn since he entered the world of Nova Terra. Only this time their plans are grander than anyone realized and close to fruition. As the political drama deepens around the 3 princes, Thorn is drawn in and becomes the heir to the Ironhold duchy which has its own place in the empires politics. Constant moments of intrigue and challenge test Thorn and his friends as the world changes around them with cultists and a plot to destroy the imperial capital city!
Mistakes: I don't think I found anything wrong with this book. This is one of my favorite series and I always look forward to reading the next book.
Plot: This is more of a murder mystery, with some dungeon diving. I must admit I would like more loot.
Characters: Thorn is one of my favorite characters. I enjoy seeing him get deeper into the game and the way the game struggles with his strength and power.
Too many plot threads are open currently in this series to keep track of reasonably. Intrigue and adventure forms the bulk of this edition. Cohesive team is being built with Thorn at the centre. The undercurrent is no longer predictable and this video's well for the larger story. Expositions continue but they don't detract from the ongoing story. Let's see how things progress in the 8th book
I find no disappointments in this impressive saga. I've been fascinated by the imaginative adventures and fully developed characters since book one. I'm too old to be collecting hardback books, yet I find myself considering what I would pay if Easton Press offer the full set of books in a leather bound edition. I would like readers in my family to enjoy this classic through my generations.
I'm amazed by Seth Ring's fluidity in this gamelit series ARC. In one book Thorn has come down with a serious case of not being able to communicate with his team or use any of his abilities. And then this book turns out to be a political murder mystery thriller. And yeah there's still plenty of action with a few Greater Devils to clean out. Grab this one so Seth Ring, and Eric Jason Martin can tell you a story...
It was an excellent story, though I hate cliffhanger endings. Cliffhangers usually come across like the author is trying to bribe you into reading the next book because they don’t have confidence in how good the current book is. If you write a good story in the first place then readers will naturally want to read your next book. No need to try to hook them in. Overall, the story was good with a good writing.
One of the things I really like about this author, is his ability to spin the story in such a way that I end up getting emotional about the characters, I know I'm being led, but I feel like Thorn is one of my best friends and at this point I would go full immersion and help him if only that were an option. Lmao, thank you, Mr Seth Ring, truly a work of art!! Getting book 8 now my freind!!
Book 7 of Nova Terra: Titan. This drags us through the political mire as well as powerful evil. This is all in an attempt at self preservation. That said, the book is filled with narrow escapes and bloody battles. I keep waiting for him to get to the dwarves, but not in this book. Maybe in the next book. Here is hoping. If you’ve not started this series yet and want to try LitRPG, try this one out.
After the action-packed book preceding this one, I redirected the current story to have a slower pace. It started off that way, but halfway through the pace picked up and never really let down. Enjoyed this and now I'm curious to see where Ring takes the story next.
The corruption is spreading and Thorn is nerfed. This installation is a lot of fun! I hope we get some more character growth because this started to feel like back-to-back action without much progress. Still, I love Alph and Akira and Velin and Meg. So many great characters!
What a ride! This book was fun from start to finish. Thorns advancements in magic are just getting started. It’s interesting to see where his abilities will go from here. That ending was also a surprise. The next book is going to be one heck of an adventure.
This book is another awesome addition to this series. If u have read any of them ur gonna enjoy this one and if you have not you are gonna wanna pick up the 1st book n not stop.Trust me.
This story of a young man who goes into a game while his body is being medically repaired was fantastic. It’s a very interesting entertaining fast paced action packed story that I really enjoyed reading.
Great book, I love how it proceeds from the war on Rasyn and the new challenges thorn and his friends are facing, also looking forward to seeing what happens with Thorn and Velin's unspoken relationship
This book got really, really long. It's one long pointless fight scene that just got impossible to read after awhile, so I page flipped to the end. I missed some stuff, I'm sure, but I just couldn't force myself through the interminable dungeon dive
I was getting a little worried that the series would degrade into just bigger and better monsters. While it is to a degree, as happens with progression fantasy, it's adding good new dimensions that make the progression much more understandable.
This story has me literally staying up in the wee hours of the morning, dying to see what's going to happen next! A great read from an excellent series!
Prancing princes and naughty nobles oh my! What will Thorn do and who has a reforged their soul? Inquiring minds want to know! Next book here I come!!!
