Falling temperatures and acid rain. A sanctuary that’s not all it seems. A family caught in the middle.
Welcome to Falling Skies. Do you have what it takes to survive?
After an asteroid crashes into the Atlantic Ocean, Caleb Machert risks everything to transport his family to safety. But two weeks later, he’s having doubts. Are the soldiers he’s working alongside rebuilding the United States, or tearing it apart?
Elizabeth spends her days prepping food, cleaning toilets, and failing to make friends. While hauling recycling, she overhears a soldier blaming her husband for a failed mission. If the general believes it, then Caleb’s in grave danger.
Reeling from an unexpected loss, Lana is determined to never let anyone down again. She’s intent on becoming not just a soldier, but a fighting machine. When faced with a do or die situation, her training is put to the test. This time, she might pay the ultimate price.
It’s a race against the clock for the Macherts before freezing temperatures and acid rain are the least of their problems.
Thunder and Acid is book two in Falling Skies, a post-apocalyptic thriller series following ordinary people struggling to survive when a meteor strike plunges the United States into chaos.
And Acid: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller. Falling Book 2. I love Harleys books, I’ve read all of them. This series does not disappoint. The story line and characters are great. It keeps you wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Not as good as the first book, and that one was mediocre at best. This book is also written very poorly. Also the author just forgot about a couple of characters from the first book. I would not recommend this series.
This was originally a five-star read for me, but I had to take away the 5th for my one, single complaint (mentioned below in a spoiler). But more on that later.
To start, this was short, sweet, and to the point. I almost wanna nitcpick about the shortness of these books, but for some reason, it sorta works for me. Things move, move, MOVE and there's no time in this new apocalypse for too much nonsense. It helps to keep things revved up without much slow-down, and even if there IS slow-down, there's significant plot development happening in the midst of it. There's a lot going on here, violence, surprises, etc, and I was so for it.
This picks up a little over two weeks after the last chapter in the previous book, so not too huge a leap. We get some glimpses of how everyday life goes for our core family at Horse Creek Base, and it's not all rainbows and butterflies. Something funky is amiss at the base, though, and Caleb's all too aware that General Thomas ain't what he's cracked up to be. Tensions ensue. Tough decisions need making. And to top it all off, the world outside is still falling apart, having to now contend with even more aftermath of the asteroid: Acid rain. What a rush.
Anyway, I was very pleased with this book. It's high action, even in its short length. It's easy to follow, and I still quite adore pretty much adore the main core of characters (Caleb, Liz, and Lana). The three of them show growth in their own way, some more/better than others. We also meet some new ones along the way and I'm glad to see that one of them is sticking around into the next entry. Dialogue amongst everyone is so well-written, and if there's one thing that I'll always love from the books I read, it's whether the dialogue reads realistically. This one definitely gets a pass.
The one complaint that took away the 5th star, was....
SPOILER TO FOLLOW!!
I'm still enjoying the hell outta this apocalyptic ride, though, and I'm eager to continue. Onward!
There was a minor issue at the start with a staff sergeant being saluted and called sir by a corporal. Doesn’t happen between enlisted military. There was a lot of action and it was well written, though ended up being a long shootout more or less. I like the addition of Derek and we will have to see where that goes.
I liked this book from the start to the end. Harley Tate is a very good author and made everything seem so real. As I was reading this book I could picture everything almost like watching it on television. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes this type of stories. Thank you Harley Tate for writing such a great book.
I discovered Harley Tate a while back and love her writing style. She writes strong characters and some solid kick ass women roles. I always look forward to reading her work.
Great start. Looking forward to seeing how the Machert family survive the apocalypse.
Most apocalypse novels start with the same premise. Family or friends trying to survive the end of the world. What I liked about the novel, was the focus on family dynamics.
Another great book by Harley Tate. I love the characters in this book and series. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of Harley’s books.
Trouble in the bunker. Trouble outside the bunker. Some civilians trying to break in. A rogue General running the inside. And we have Caleb, Elizabeth, their daughter and her friend Caleb. It is leading to a conflict. Good series.
This is a fast paced action packed story full of adventure and intrigue. It never slows down and never lets you catch a breath. The characters are awesome. I really like this book and I highly recommend it.
This picks up where the last one ends, but with another area added. Parts are exciting, a couple parts dragged for me, but overall it was well worth reading. Now I've got to get the next book!
When you have a book, you don’t want to put down you know you found a good one. Instead of doing my normal crafts or even just housework I’m reading and love this series unpredictable. It’s great.
