Opposites attract in this small-town romance by author Michele Lenard.
I thought I was living the dream. Then she came to town.
Cade – Call me Peter Pan, but I’m in no rush to grow up. Maybe that’s because I have the greatest backyard in Colorado, and my life is what other people only experience on vacation. Or maybe it’s because I like variety, and the female visitors who roll through town are like an endless buffet. Either way, I avoid responsibility like I’m allergic to it. Or I did, until my studious new neighbor started looking at me like I’m more than just a tourist attraction, making me wonder if I’ve got more to offer than just a good time.
Cora – I’m not the kind of girl who’s easily distracted, which is what makes my interest in the town playboy so uncharacteristic. He’s never serious, and I don’t know any other way to be. Still, there’s something about his carefree, live in the moment attitude I find appealing. Freeing. It makes me want to follow his example and…have fun. He thinks he’ll be a bad influence on me, but what’s the harm in taking page out of his playbook, just for the summer.
Michele writes contemporary romance that is both sweet and steamy. Her goal is to make you fan your face as you wipe a tear from your eye. Several of her books have been named as finalists in the MARA Fiction From the Homeland contest. Her books are part of a series but there are no cliffhangers so each can be read as a standalone. When she isn't reading or writing she enjoys the outdoors, something that pops up in her books from time to time.
This was an adorable and steamy slow burn contemporary romance, fitting for a summer read 🥰
Cora travels for the summer to her uncle’s vacation home, hoping to finish up her thesis without any distractions. In comes Cade, a handsome and insufferable flirt, who somehow manages to interrupt her plans. Cade is used to playing the field, he is definitely not one to settle down, while Cora is a very responsible person and career focused. This book is Perfect for fans of the opposites-attract trope! As much as these two are drawn to each other they must learn to put their differences aside to be together… 👀 is their fling going to be only for the summer?
The author explores deeply each character feelings, their fear of commitment and expectations, making the story relatable and easy to connect to! Their chemistry was on point… also the spicy scenes are 🔥🥵
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy for review
Holy hotness, I loved this! First in the Elevation series, set in the mountains of Katah Vista, Colorado, Cade lived his life as the town playboy, taking advantage of the steady stream of female tourists coming through and fully participating in the plethora of outdoor activities the mountains had to offer. Working in construction, he met Cora, niece of a client staying at the house of a build where she worked on her thesis for the summer.
Cade was the ultimate flirt but found a connection with Cora that was unlike anything he'd experienced before. Their attraction was so magnetic, deliciously steamy and sizzling from the very beginning. They fit together perfectly like two pieces of a puzzle, feeling right in a way neither ever had even though they both knew Cora planned to leave at the end of the summer. It made Cade question how he lived his life and if there was more to him than just a good time. They began to fall for each other but, seemingly opposites, Cade felt unworthy of Cora, thinking he would distract her from her goals and that she deserved so much more for her future than he had to offer. Would Cora consider staying in town where her career opportunities would be limited? Or would Cade leave everything to be with her?
I loved everything about this book from the characters to the mountain setting to the sense of community in the town. I swooned at how thoughtful and selfless Cade was while I admired Cora's drive and independence. Cade and Cora were perfectly compatible even if neither was willing to see it. I loved Cade from the start despite his playboy ways and he just might be my newest book boyfriend. There was so much more to him beneath the surface, fears and insecurities holding him back from true happiness. I held my breath as I waited to see if he would discover his value and worth so he could find his way towards a HEA with Cora. Their inevitable split at the end of the summer was heartbreaking and brought tears to my eyes. But their relationship was so real, raw and intense, their journey so beautiful. No two people could have deserved each other more. With such an incredible start to the series, I'm excited to see where it goes next.
** Special thanks to author Michele Lenard for the opportunity to read and review this book through the Romance Devoured giveaway. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Available June 28, 2022.
I just finished this terrific story and I have to say that Michele Lenard surprises me every friggin' time she releases a book.
Each time, I fall in love with the last one I read and then think that nothing can get better, then she releases another and I fall in love with THAT one more!
It's an endless cycle, but I guess it's a good problem to have!
Cora and Cade are so freaking CUTE and I love his nickname for her. I need that on a T-shirt ASAP.
I got to ARC read this story, which is the first in a new series she's releasing this year and MY GOD. The things Cade says *fans self*. Like her last Miles High Series, this one takes place in Colorado, USA, but in a cute little town that's obsessed with outdoor activities! Cade is your classic playboy and content with being the town's 'tour guide' where Cora is all about furthering her career and education.
They clash as first because Cora is incredibly headstrong, and I love it about her! She likes to do things herself. Cade, is a Bonafide people pleaser and wants to help. Always. So it creates some tension between them that makes things just burn brighter!
I absolutely loved this book and definitely plan to re-read it! Make sure to pre-order it ASAP!!
Another great read by Lenard! I am enjoying watching this author's writing grow along with her storytelling.
I love Cade and Cora's story, it's so real that you can relate to it on so many levels. I know I've had a few relationships that started out as theirs does.
Cora is such a sweet heroine, I enjoyed her personality and wit. Cade is a different ball of fire but after getting to know him for a hero, he's a stunner. I especially like the way he is with Cora, his personality grows on you because of it.
In retrospect, they're perfect for each other and are two halves of a whole. Cade is your typical party boy who feeds on the female tourists to get his kicks but when he meets newcomer Cora that all changes. Their little fling was only supposed to last the summer like all his other silly conquests with tourists but they clicked and it became something more.
This book has angst and steam in all right places and you're sure to enjoy it! I love that it's a series where you can read about sides characters from each book who eventually get their own.
This is a slow burn romance between Cade (a resident of this quaint mountainside town) and Cora. Cora is in town so that she could have a quiet place to finish her thesis. The two meet and although they are both instantly attracted to one another, they spend a great amount of time talking themselves out of the relationship. I enjoyed the story but felt that there was a bit too much inner dialogue and for me, it made the story feel long. I did really like the characters together, the book is steamy once this starts and I am left wanting to read more from this world.
I have decided that I want to live in Katah Vista. The small town is as delightful as the people who live there.
Cora and Cade are not expecting each other. Both have their summer planned out. For Cade it doesn’t include a serious relationship with one woman. For Cora, it doesn’t include a relationship at all. Crazy how chemistry between the two of them changes their summer plans.
I cannot wait for the next books in this series. It’s going to be fun to watch these characters fall in love.
This book was awesome! I completely fell in love with Cora. I was leery of Cade but after getting to know him, especially with Cora, I grew to like him too. Cora needed Cade as much as he needed her. They were only supposed to last the summer. I got the warm fuzzies when Cade and Cora realized how much they ended up caring for each other. This book was nice and steamy in all right parts. I really enjoyed this book! This author is new to me but I can’t wait to read more from her! I am voluntarily leaving this review.
This is a quite charming small town romance between two opposite people. He’s a playboy in his small town, loves to sample tourists and she’s his neighbor, a PhD student that isn’t easily distracted. He is proving to be an exception. They quickly find themselves drawn to each other and are trying to fight the attraction. As they get to know each other and he comes to her rescue things change. This book is steamy and the intimacy between the characters is wonderful as they slowly realize they must stand up for their true feelings. I would definitely recommend this romance book.
I love this story, playboy tries to stay away from the new girl in town, doesn’t think he’s good enough but doesn’t want to stay away. She’s in town for a break and is leaving at the end of the summer. They collide and have to navigate small town life together. What will happen at the end of the summer?
This was a new to me author and I enjoyed the story. Adventurous Cade plans to never ever settle down. He loves the outdoors and just hooking up whenever he can, however he can. Never did he see studious Cora come into his life. We soon learn that there is WAY more to this playboy than we see and eventually, this "only for the summer" fling will have to come to an end. Will there be any way that these two can become more than just a passing distraction?
Sweet romance. I liked the writing, the setting and the characters. The romance is slow burn, the anticipation is all there, I was invested in their journey, and may even have shed a tear towards the end, but they get their HEA. The steam is after the 50% mark, there are a few scenes, the rest happens off page.

I enjoyed reading this book. Cade was a playboy, hard-worker, and Cora an independent, intelligent woman. It’s interesting how in a small town, everyone knows everyone’s business. I just didn’t understand why neither one of them wouldn’t be honest with each other. That part was frustrating.
If you love small town romance. With the spice. Dual pov. Man all the charm and swoon. Forced proximity which is the best ever. And binge worthy. I loved this one and def recommend. Small town romance deserves all of the love.
Smart girl from out of town takes a chance on the local playboy. Good characters and a sweet romance, with plenty of spicy to keep you turning the pages. Fun read
I enjoyed this book. It is the first book I have read by Michele and it won’t be the last. It was well written, the characters were relatable and the chemistry was great.
I loved how both Cade and Cora brought the best of each other out and supported each other. I loved how sweet and caring Cade was toward Cora, but I loved how Cora didn’t let him make decisions for her either and was his perfect opposite.
The little sneak peak for the next book looks like I’ll be reading more to see how that turns out as well.
If you are looking for a charming small town romance between two seemingly opposite people, then this is such a lovely option! I think Michele Lenard does a wonderful job crafting a low angst romance between two people who just easily fit together and must learn what they truly want out of life. Lenard's writing is accessible, well paced, delightfully steamy and perfectly sweet. Lenard's characters are easily understandable in their thoughts and actions and their romance is endearing and easy to root for.
Cade is know as a playboy in his small town, he easily enters into quick affairs with tourists as they cross through his hometown. Cora is a PHD student in town for a bit of rest-bid before her final exam. Cora is not someone who is easily distracted but Cade is proving an exception to this truth.
Both Cade and Cora quickly find themselves draw to the other, but they are trying to fight their attraction. But as they get to know each other better and when Cade comes to Cora's rescue they are no longer able to fully fight their attraction. I love how easily these two fall into a pattern with the other. I also love that both of them are constantly thinking about what is best for the other (even though this might cause them heart ache). I love that Cora sees Cade for the strong, family man that he is and she knows he is not the playboy that people so easily label him. I love that Cade does not want to hold Cora back from her big dreams. This novel is delightfully steamy, Lenard knows how to use intimacy between the characters to build understanding and trust between them. I also love that Lenard does not rely on a big third act conflict or misunderstanding to taint their relationship with bitterness. Rather both Cade and Cora think they are doing what is best for the other and they slowly come to realize they must stand up for their true feelings.
I would definitely recommend this romance as the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon especially if a sweet small town romance with a wonderful amount of steam is something that you are interested in. Lenard's craft continues to grow and I am looking forward to the next installment in this series!
Thank you to Michele Lenard for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Distraction is the book where you kinda wonder for a moment if you aren’t Belle (Cora) in her small provincial (Colorado mountain) town…and you even get to met ..well, Cade is not Gaston. He is however, the town’s playboy and Cora is there to work on her thesis.
I don’t do spoilers but it is a so much more than a summer fling, you’ll love finding out about the bar game…it was that snorting kind of laugh (I never do that)
Enjoy Cora and Cade, the town of Katah Vista and I’m sure you’ll be grabbing the next book to get back again!
