Fired from his job, recently divorced, and nearly broke, Tucker Merrill is ready to snap when he receives word of his brothers' suicide.
In full retreat, Tucker returns to his hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, where the local industries have cut and run, the old southern mansions are devoid of visitors, and all that remains are gambling, hard drugs, and some serious cases of arrested development.
The unforgiving criticism of Tucker's father, coupled with the less than sympathetic ear of his childhood sweetheart, forces a brutal reassessment of his life. However, before he can reconcile his past and present, he'll have to steer clear of a group of Neo-Nazi's hellbent on kick-starting a race war in the 21st Century shambles of the Old South.

Author Adam Perry has somehow made a backwards southern hillbilly family endearing in his novel, All Possible Orbits. As I began reading, I wasn’t sure where the story was going. It’s not a quick read, as Adam Perry has poured the descriptive details heavily into the story of Tucker Merrill and his family. Tucker, divorced, out of work, and returning to his hometown for his brothers funeral, finds himself surrounded by all sorts of characters. From big ol’ Aunt Puddin, Grandaddy and Polly, to Rooster and his boys(Nazi racists to the extreme), along with some other drunken and or stoned family members. Tucks past comes barreling at him full force as he tries to find his way. Meeting back up with old friends and navigating a difficult relationship with his dying father, Tucker comes full circle. I won’t spoil the book but it’s a happy ending, sort of. If death can bring a happy ending that is. All in all, I enjoyed my visit in Natchez and Merrill Hollow with Tucker and his misfit family. I’ve grown fond of most of the characters. Afro Joe being one of my favorites. I’ll let you have the pleasure of meeting the wise old man when you read the book. As I said in the beginning of my review, Adam Perry really did make me feel all sorts of emotions for this backwoods family. I look forward to seeing what else this author presents us with in the future.
