One year after a terrible tragedy, the coastal town of West Seven is still recovering from its collective trauma.

I got this digital book a while ago, for free, through Book Sends! So wanting to read something other than Syfy for a change, I started reading it a few days ago. It. Was a great mystery! Fast paced, interesting characters and a great heroine - young, deputy Lux Bern. After surviving a terrible event, she goes about work keeping her head down and her job uncomplicated, until her supervisor forces her to work with another great character - Chike Nwadike. Loved the names in this book too!
I don’t think the title fits the story line at all, nor does the book cover. The story itself was good reading but I kept thinking when will the story get around to the silent child?
This is fast paced, Deputy Lux Bern surviving a terrible event, goes about work keeping her head down. A few years ago, she was in a school shoot out, a girl got shot. When Carissa is Lux's friend goes missing. Lux is looking for her. The book is a good read. It has it all. Murder, kidnapping, underage sex, and more.
Some research into police policy and procedures would be helpful.
Again...can we get an editor? Does no one use spell-check and grammar-check? I'm spending too much time proofreading instead of just reading. The story is okay, but if you did some research into actual police work, it would have been a better story.
I do like this combination of author and narrator and it was nice to go away from the apocalyptic genre with them for a bit. I am not sure about some of the plot points and police procedural but it worked really well as a pleasant listen and I got engrossed with the story and wanting to know what happened. Not sure about the title and the reference.
The plot changes quickly and keeps you guessing as to who did what. The story examines the characteristics of the different social classes in a small town and how each reacts to drugs, greed, and sex.
Great writing as always! Riveting story line. Love the characters. They are very human and multi faceted. Looking forward to reading more of Alexandria Clarke’s books.
I am still reeling with shock at the abrupt end to this story. Deputy detective has solved the two big cases she was working on. This cliff-hanger stunned me.
