Worst shifter stories ever
This is a collection of the worst shifter stories I've ever read. We have bear shifters living in Chicago in an area that's simultaneously near the lakefront but also only a short walk from the deep forest, yet far enough from the suburbs that someone can live there for twenty years and never be seen or heard from again. We have the most awful, controlling alphas and councils of elders, characters that are supposed to be "midlife", aka in their forties, but act like they're in high school. No one has a normal conversation, best friends and lovers betray one another, the culture of every pack is entirely misogynistic. I think the thing that's most disturbing is that in this genre, the world building, the settings, the rules of the pack, are entirely in the writer's hands. So why would anyone want to invent such a place to live? If I was a shifter and these were my only choices, I'd be a lone wolf or a feral bear or a solitary dragon, because never in a million years would I want to live like this.

I loved this box set. here are my reviews for the individual stories.
Bear Next Door: I loved this story. Full of heartache and joy.
Brady and Evelyn both took the wrong path. Evelyn away from her family. Brady away from the right and responsibility he was due.
Strength of will though has brought them both back to the den and together. Now they need to survive the politics, fight for their place and heal old wounds.
A lovely, thought provoking tale, full of anguish and hope.
The characters are lovingly written and the plot has depth and detail.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it.
Midlife Bear Cubs: I thoroughly enjoyed this book in the Midlife Shifters series.
Later in life stories are a great asset to this author.
Wes and Lauren are both outsider's. Lauren in the human world, Wes in the wild. Both left home as soon as they were old enough and haven't looked back.
A grief stricken tryst changes all that.
I love the character interactions, plot detail and supporting cast. All gave great depth and feeling to a rollercoaster of emotions.
Shifter Marriage Pact: I love this book. TJ and Carson are childhood sweethearts, but priorities broke then apart. Many years later they are avoiding each other until circumstances bring them together. Throw in an alpha competition. Strict rules, fierce competition from an unexpected source and denial of feelings to give an engrossing, twisty turny, plot that I could not put down.
I love the character detail and plot depth.
Midlife Halloween Shift: This is a great book in the Midlife Shifter series.
Laney has always loved Henry, but he broke her heart. She gave him her soul and he threw her away so he could be Alpha. Laney ran.
Twenty years later and Laney is cursed, not knowing what to do she goes home, and immediately runs into Henry. Life is about to get interesting for both of them.
A great book full of emotion and detail. I love the characters, the story interplay, the twists and turns of the plot. I was hooked.
Shifter Reunion: I really enjoyed this book. Midlife shifters is a really great series and this book does not disappoint.
Lou Ellen and Chase are entertaining characters, well written and with great detail.
Lou Ellen has a life, she left her pack, her family too live her life and make something of herself and she has.
Chase ran from Lou Ellen ten years ago and now he's back, can he make amends, does he want to make amends.
A great tale that had me engrossed. Lots of twists and turns, love, pain, passion and regret.
The Alpha’s Brother: A great addition to the series. I love these characters.
Gina has just seen the last of her children off to university. She is finding life alone very quiet.
A night out goes badly and she wakes up in an unexpected bed - Tyson's, the alphas wayward brother, a player who has a reputation for an easy life.
When the alpha is hurt, Tyson has to take on the responsibility he always shunned. And handle the ramifications from his brothers actions. whilst roping Gina in to help.
Midlife Dragon Daddy: I loved this epic read. This tale has everything: love, loss, vengeance and redemption.
Haley was exiled ten years ago. She has been surviving in Shifter Town. Exiled for being barren and not providing Ryker with an heir.
Ryker has been looking for a mate but time is running out. His alpha position was denied him and his cousin took over. Ruling with fear and subjugation of his clan. Ryker need to claim back his rite.
To do this he needs a mate. his search only finds one woman, Haley who he threw out all those years ago.
Can she forgive him, can he win back her trust. Haley was his true mate and now his only hope.
Midlife Cowboy Wolf: I really enjoyed this book.
The characters are lovingly written with care and attention to detail.
Rose having just come home after the death of her father, finds herself attracted to her neighbour.
Cole is fiercely loyal. That loyalty is put to the test when he becomes temporary alpha and find himself also drawn to his new neighbour.
Lots of drama, twists and turns to keep me engrossed.
An great read I could not put down.
Midlife Magic Dragon: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Magic and hot dragons, what more could you ask for.
Scorn lives his life in exile. Ostracised from his clan he drinks and ...... no responsibilities no pressure.
When his path crosses with Maddie, saving her life, their lives become intertwined.
Maggie is headstrong and out of her depth, with no idea of how her world is about to change.
War is coming, and like it or not Maddie and Scorn are right in the middle of the fight.
I loved the characters. The plot detail and sorting cast.
Midlife Dragon Brothers: I loved this story and these characters.
Maggie and Milo are heading back to her home town. Two decades away bar one brief visit three years ago, resulting in Milo.
Maggie does not want to face her past but must for the sake of her sister.
Before she even hits town she runs into Maverick. He takes one look at Milo and knows he is his. His brothers Sawyer and Wyatt are not going to be happy with him.
Maggie loved all three brothers, all her life, but after a nasty incident ran. Now back with Milo in tow, her feelings have not abated.
A rollercoaster of a story. Full of passion, excitement, plots, backstabbing and love.
I was captivated by the story and couldn't put my kindle down.
It was nice to have brothers that shared, but didn't share. A nice variance of the norm.
Midlife Harem: This is an enjoyable read. Full of twists and turns. Threats and pain. Conflict and resolution.
The characters are nicely written with good detail and encompassing plot.
Kellye had returned home to look after her father. There she meets Scott, the attraction is instant though Kellye thinks it is her menopause playing up. Then she meets Jim, she hates what he is doing to her family but the feelings are intense. When she runs into Carl she is overwhelmed with lust. Her hormones are playing tricks on her.
A fun read with interesting characters and an engaging plot.
Midlife Omega: This is a lovely book full of drama and pain.
Natalie is living her life, content but alone as she has been all her life. That is all about to change one night in a hotel bar.
Ozzy, Gage and Chuck are all very different. They each find themselves saving Natalie and letting her into their lives.
A great story with engaging characters, full of plot detail and emotion.
An amazing box set of wonderful stories I highly recommend.

So far, I have read two books in this collection. Bear Next Door is about a woman who left her family and ran off with a wolf shifter. After years of his abuse, she has come back home to, hopefully, make peace with her parents. She decides to spend one night in a hotel near her parent's home in Chicago before she throws herself on their mercy. She meets a man in the hotel bar and they clicked. She goes to his room and they have a great time, but she sneaks out early and packs up to head home. Yeah, she's a chicken. So, imagine her surprise when she joins her parents at the neighbor's house for dinner and discovers that her one-night stand was her childhood friend, Brady. Whoops.
Brady was supposed to be the alpha of his bear- shifter den, but that position had been taken from him before he ever got it. His misspent youth bit him in the butt when he got drunk and wrecked his motorcycle. Since the "got drunk" part wasn't a new thing, he ended up in rehab and someone else ended up as alpha. Steve was supposed to be the temporary alpha...somehow that little fact has been forgotten. Brady has tried to work his way back to the position, but Steve isn't about to let that happen. The conference at the local hotel was going to be Brady's chance to shine. Unfortunately, Steve once again made him look like an idiot and now he doesn't know what to do. A visit to the hotel bar could have been a disaster, but instead of drinking he found a beautiful woman who rocked his world...at least until she disappeared on him in the early morning hours. He doesn't even know her name, only that she lives in Chicago. But there she is in his parent's living room and it seems they were childhood playmates. Can they be something more now?

Wesley left immediately after the encounter to return to his solitary life and Lauren packed up her mother's belongings and put the house up for sale before returning to her human job.
Two months later Lauren finds herself back in her old neighborhood. She had never expected to get pregnant at the age of forty-one and definitely not by her best friend's brother. Now she has to tell Jessica about what happened with Wes and ask her to keep the baby daddy a secret from everyone. She plans to tell everyone the father is a human man who has no idea she is a best shifter and wouldn't understand her presenting him with a litter of cubs. Wes, on the other hand, never wanted children and won't want the responsibility. Unfortunately, things will not go as she'd planned. Her den is not the same one she left due to a new alpha and her connection with Wes is deeper than she knows. The new alpha's wife hates her and her pregnancy seems to have something to do with it, but what?

Honestly this is probably the BEST anthology that I’ve found. I’ve found I difficult to find stories featuring what every one of these stories share: 1) BOTH the MFC & MMC are shifters 2) All of the MFC are in their late 30s to early 40s. There was not one story that I didn’t enjoy and most were honestly 5 star reads for me so I had to give it 5 stars! I’m only upset that this is over and am hoping I find something similar in the future!!!

Porn
A couple of the stories were readable but for the most part it was nothing but sex with very little to hold your interest. Even getting it free, it was overpriced. It’s getting where authors spend so much time on descriptions of sex there is very little story to read. I’m not a prude but I can know what the characters are doing without having to watch. I love to read but books are getting expensive and paying for something and then skipping half of it is very sad.

ARC review I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Book1-evelyn who was married, but when she leaves him she ends back in her hometown where she meets Brody book2-Lauren wood is pregnant with westley simms cubs her best friends brothers and back with the clan but there is something wrong with the clan. Book3-Carson mcnabb of the black fangs sees tj waters is back home his fist love. since Graham the alpha is stepping down there is a chance for Carson to be alpha, but he must be married with kids to enter book4-Delaney day has to go home to Salem to find out why she is sprouting fur at 40. She left home after Henry Stratton broke her heart for being human.. Book5-.the wind runner wolf clan is called back for a reunion, so when Chase savage sees you Ellen his ex wife it's like no time has passed but there is something not right what the new alpha is doing . book6-Gina after raising her five children and after the abuse of her ex husband she thought she be alone but when the alpha brother Tyson needed her help she found that she is worth more. Book10- Maggie and her son Milo are heading back to Brady Colorado for her sister and to face her past. Book11-When kellye comes home to bent river for her father marvin that has dementia . She meets bear shifters jim, Carl and Scott and find out her father has been keeping a secret about herself .plus the trouble that is brought to her door. Book12- This is a story of Natalie Harman omega a writer who was taken away from their pack by her parents when young ,but then orphaned. she didn't know her past till she was kidnapped by wolf's where she meets ozzy, gage, and Chuck and learns who she is . these are all fantastic 10 star stories that you will definitely love.

When Evelyn was young she left her pack for a wolf shifter. Now years later she has had enough and has left him to return home. Before she goes to her parents she stops to regroup and get herself ready for what she'll face once she gets back with her pack. She runs into a man at a bar and they start talking and end up spending an amazing night together. Evelyn is gone the next morning heading home. When she arrives at her parents its not a warm welcome but they take her in. When her parents tell her about another pack family inviting them to dinner she agrees to go and gets a shock when her one night stand turns out to be Brady her once friend before she left the pack. Brady is stunned when he sees Evelyn but he has other things on his mind as well. Its not long before they end up together again. Brady wants to take his place as the rightful Alpha of their pack and when something happens between him and Evelyn they have to separate in order to keep her safe. Will they get their chance to finally be together? Can he take over as the Alpha of their pack?

These are some of my favorite stories from this collection. Once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining box set. I would recommend this box set to any book lover.

This is just one of the books in this amazing collection that keeps you up for a few night so be prepared to loose sleep. This is the story about Everlyn and Brady who new each other 20 yrs ago and not realising who they are to each other they had a one night stand and Everlyn left early the next morning. Brady is a bear shifter and use to be the alpha of his pack before his drinking and the accident and the unfair three on one and everyone stood by and watched, now all he wants is his pack and alpha position back. Evelyn returns home after 20yrs of hell with her now ex husband and wolf shifters and before she gets there she meets a sexy man at a bar and they get along very well and she has a hot night with him but leaves early in the morning and now she just wants to start over and put the domestic violence behind her for good. Can these two work everything out and have a future together as a family and does Brady become the alpha to the pack again, there is heaps more to this book and all the others in this collection. This is a must read collection and I know you won’t be disappointed. .

DNF - Painful
I absolutely do not want to be cruel, but I could not finish this collection. I only made it (barely) through two stories before having to throw in the towel. On a basic level, these stories are far too simplistic. Basic aspects of the relationships and storylines are glossed over or just not addressed. The collection is about folks in their 40s who act like they are still in high school. Some MCs, like the FMC in book 2 are downright unlikable. Not only are the characters juvenile, the storylines and "big bads" are insufferable as well.
I finished the first 2 and gave them 2 Stars only because I finished them (after skimming in the end). Overall, I am giving the collection 1 Star because I couldn't finish it. I just wanted an escape for a few hours, not end up frustrated with a headache.

I read each book and gave my star rating for each one separately...
Esssshhhh, a few of these were hard to read. Are they the worst? No, but not something I would recommend. The plot lines are there as in bare bones, but a lot of editing and more story would be helpful. The spice level varied from book to book... some was more "modern filthy," and some was "I realeased into her womb..." I hate saying super negative things about authors because this is their creation; that being said, you can see some people truly enjoyed them. Maybe look and see if those other recommendations line up and then go from there, but for me, big swing n a miss.

I saw that this collection contained all of the stores and I dove in. My favorites of the series are the Magic Dragon, Bear Cubs and Dragon Brothers. I thought those matches were the best and their stories flowed well. .

What a great collection of books. I love that these more mature characters find their happy ever after. Each book is beautifully written often with secrets, danger and sometimes betrayal. I enjoyed following each character’s journey and was cheering them on when all looked hopeless. This is a collection you do not want to miss. I highly recommend it to lovers of the paranormal.

Not for me
I only read the first story so maybe it's not fair to write a review. Normally I don't like shifter stories but I was excited to see these were about older people. Mid life is still younger than me but better than 18 year olds. Well I might as well read about 18 year olds. You leave your abusive husband and the first night away you hop in bed with a stranger? No romance just sex. Sorry ugh!

Great stories, miss the pictures
I liked that all the stories were different and the characters were relatable. There were no cliffhangers. The last story was my favorite. I also liked one or two more. If I had more time I would reread some of these stories just for the fun of it.
Do not pass this collection up just because it is overwhelming to read such a large collection. Take your time and enjoy it.

What's not to like about this collections? First of all, it's about shifters. It also contains all 12 stories in the series. Yet that still isn't the best part. The best part is all the heroines are mature women! Who says life stops at 30?!?.

I loved these stories in this collection. J. L. Wilder did a wonderful job with this series. Each story had its own HEA. They will keep you on the edge of your seat just to see what will happen I each story. Worth getting and reading. Hope those of you that get Sands read this series enjoy it as much as I did.

I am never disappointed
I am never disappointed by this author and this box set of the Midlife Shifter series is no different. Each book features a new couple going through their own troubles and finding out that their troubles are better handled when shared.

Great read
For those of us at "midlife" OR OLDER who realize that 'life begins at 40' and just because some folks think you're 'past your prime' - YOU ARE THE ONE who gets to decide what to do with your life!
Loved each story! Really well-written, fun and interesting reads.

nothing midlife or alpha about these books
I really tried. I read 2 books and just gave up. These characters are supposed to be alphas and middle aged and there isn’t anything alpha about these men. The “middle age” part is just their age. They don’t act mature, they act like 20 something year olds.
This series just isn’t for me.

Some better than others
It is difficult to review a series collection as the stories vary in character and quality. On the whole they were entertaining enough, some more so than others. My only dislike was the habit of characters inner thoughts on italics. I find this irritating as I would rather have descriptive passages which mean more, but that is just my personal opinion.

Good stories but some spelling and grammar errors
This book has several stories I'd say 50% of them were well worth the effort to read the others had grammar or spelling mistakes or the wrong word. There was 1 story towards the end that really I did not like it was long and drawn out and kept repeating things I don't need things repeated over and over and over.

Some of the stories were good. There were a few I skipped as there were instances of rape and the heroine being coerced into sex to save herself or someone else that all characters seem fine with "cause she liked it". Nope. Not okay.
The writing itself was mediocre, there was at least usually a plot, but like all shifter romance it was quite formulaic.

Easy to read
If you like simple, fast moving plots that are mpre.rp!ance \sex than conflict this the series for you. I like the authors interpretation of shape shifters and mates. I liked seeing polyamory \ethical non monogamy representation. I liked that rape wasn't used as a plot device and that there was no romanticized abuse.
