Can she save her rebel love interest, Daniel Reid, or will fate twist and finally unite her with the man who insists he is her Cass Danko? An exhilarating race over untamed lands is filled with the famous and infamous, friends old and new, and time-travel adventures to epic historical events. Locating the elusive X-Catcher—a spirit who does the math—is her ticket back to the Midst.
Walker must ask Can I ever go home again?Should I go back to fight for what’s right?
I’m C.L. Gaber, an author and film journalist for the New York Times Syndicate and Chicago Sun Times. I also co-authored Jex Malone series. Originally from Chicago, I make my home in Nevada with my husband, bonus daughter and two unruly dogs. My husband knows that Ascenders began with me in bathroom half the night writing on tiny notepads because I didn’t want to wake him. When daylight did roll around, I told him, ”Baby, I had the most incredible dream”.
It is always exciting to find myself back in this world. It is equal parts frightening and thrilling. This particular one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time because there was simply so much that could go wrong, and most of the time it did. My only regret is that I was so busy it took me a couple of months to finish. I'm glad I finally did though.
I laughed. I held my breath. I wanted to scream. I cried. The story is just that good even going into the 5th book of the series. I love it that much. I'm excited about the next book in the series.
I only had one real problem with this book, and though I don't usually deduct a star for issues like this, since it has been two books in a row, I'm disappointed and wonder if the author has not been using an editor for the last couple of books. In my experience, two services you don't skip when publishing are the cover and the editing. When editing is not used, it's difficult to understand some of the phrasing, without rereading more times than I would have liked, and I found the same trouble with The Claires. I only hope she or her publishing company hires an editor for the next books.
Book number 5 in the Ascenders series, I think, is the most emotional, gut-wrenching one of all of them. Walker is determined, along with her love Daniel to save the rest of Daniel’s siblings from their psychotic father and go to any lengths to find them in the past time loop they have been hidden. At one point, Walker is his prisoner, and the gross way he tries to manipulate her makes my blood boil. The heartbreaking story cass shares with walker is bitter-sweet, and the amount of loss in this part of the series made me want to ball. I love the addition of Griz to the story; he is sweet and causes parts of the story to seem less bogged down in the sadness of some of the events. In the Ascenders saga, I have such a connection with these characters where they have been, where they are going, and where they hope to be in the future. I am dying for the next installment.
Gaber has done it again! She has created a new world in the afterlife, The Other, and it is terrifying! It is also beautiful and peaceful. There are hunters and there are gatherers in this strange land and when our heroes encounter the hunters you soon realize they hunt everything, including humans.
One of the most caring, loveable, characters I’ve ever read about also lives there and he is my new favorite: Griz. He is a gentle giant that I could not get enough of. He really helped balance the story out and I’m looking forward to more of him.
One of my other favorite characters gets killed and I’m NOT OK!!! I’m hoping @clgaber finds a way to bring them back in this world where magic exists 🤞🤞🤞 It’s one of the best things about the fantasy genre!

I could hardly wait for the next book in the Ascenders series, and I wasn’t let down! Excellent read from beginning to end, old favorites and amazing new characters. CL Gaber’s world building, writing style and character building are unparalleled. This whole series is a must read, each one gets more amazing than the last!
There's so much in this book! Some dreams come true, others don't. Friends are gained and lost. Very suspenseful, and emotional. Looking forward to the next chapter in this epic saga.
