Tom Rollins is on the move again, this time through the state of Washington. Behind him in Alaska he has left a cabin he blowed to pieces and the woman that owned it. In Road Kill by Paul Heatley he stops for gas only to see a young girl being manhandled by some rough characters, of course he has to interfere. That lead to a wild hunt and an actionfilled story about children abuse in a sect like church. Is Rollins in over his head this time? Will he save the girl and get her to her brother? Well, the book is out in stores April third and then you should get it and find out. Paul Heatley has written another great fast paced action thriller and I highly recommend that you try his work. I must thank @netgalley and @inkubatobooks for letting me read this advance copy of #RoadKill and #PaulHeatley for coming up with these stories.

Paul Heatley has created a great action hero in Tom Rollins and Road Kill in the 5th novel in the series.
Tom is in Washington state having driven south from Alaska, seeking out new employment, when he comes across a young girl being manhandled by a group of males at petrol station. Tom being Tom intervenes and rescues the girl, Taylor, and before you know it he is being pursued by a group of henchmen all affiliated to a local church and it’s crazed leader. What follows is lots of action, violence and car chases and possibly a description of one of the most gruesome deaths I’ve ever read !!
I’ve read all five Tom Rollins novels to date and thoroughly enjoyed them. I’ve got to say these type of action novels aren’t my usual fair but I’m a fan of Paul Heatley’s other work too and this series is also a bit of a departure for him. I see that the sixth novel has also been recently released and think I’m going to dive right in and catch up with Rollin’s latest adventure.

Good

3.4 stars for this one. I do love when evil government officials finally get caught for their terrible crimes, especially when they get a bit roughed up.

My second outing with Paul but my first with Tom and well quite frankly… I LOVED IT!!

Guys! I have found my new Reacher. As you may remember me and Jack went on a break after book 13 due to his actions in Hope and Despair and I always vowed to go back to him, and I still will, but for now I have Tom *sigh*

Ok, so Tom was a bit like Jack, and got involved in something that wasn’t anything to do with him but this time I felt it was justified! A girl was in trouble!

This is book 5 in a series, which before reading I had no idea but it works perfectly. I don’t feel like I am missing anything, for all I knew this could be book 1! However, I now have 4 books to get acquainted with Tom a bit more.

He is the guy you want in your corner, in your life or just fighting for you. He doesn’t back down and he can handle himself. I mean Tom vs 8 guys…well there was only 1 winner…literally.

I love Paul’s writing style. I love the high octane thrill of it. I was turning the pages so quickly in the last 5 chapters because things were INTENSE! I mean we all knew there would be only one outcome but it was how the frick would we get there! Paul sucks you in with the intrigue and intensity straight away and it doesn’t relent. But at the same time, it loses none of the passion, the thrill and at no time was I bored. It has everything I want in an action thriller. It is engaging and the plotline, although we have seen it before, was done in a way that I found refreshing as if I was reading it for tge first time.

I am now going to be fighting anyone for the next book in this series or by Paul, whichever is first. Just loved this adventure!

Sorry Tom - I'm done. I guess all the beatings you took in the earlier books made you a changed man, who not only helps give the people abused by society a 2nd chance, but also give the abusers a 2nd chance, Even after finding out the the people chasing him want to return Taylor to a child rapist, Tom is content with either knocking them out or as in the forest let about 7 of them just walk away.
And his decision making was complete opposite of the fine tuned mind from the first 2 books.
-After Taylor told him in the military Bill gutted people alive & flayed others, Tom actually asked "He'd torture people?". Huh?
-Smashes tracking chip instead to putting in a vehicle going in another direction. Or do anything other then smash. Although it didn't matter as Tom was apparently clueless that the only place Taylor would/could go to was her brother and that was where the bad guys would head.
- Tom then parks right outside Josh's house without doing his normal surveillance, then sees the house is broken in to but still enters knowing at least 8 people are chasing him & leaving Taylor standing outside. Huh.
-Tom just gives himself up at the compound, but luckily Author made bad guys dumber then Tom, as they leave him in a room with 4 guys with no guns. Luckily the decided not to tie up Tom, even though the point was made that Josh & Tilly were tied up. Huh.
And what was the point of keeping Tom alive. I always have flashbacks to an Austin Powers movie with Dr Evil & his son Scott:
DR. EVIL: Scott, I want you to meet Daddy's nemesis, Austin Powers.
SCOTT EVIL: Why are you feeding him? Why don't you just kill him?
DR. EVIL: In due time.
SCOTT EVIL: But what if he escapes? Why don't you just shoot him? What are you waiting for?
DR. EVIL: I have a better idea. I'm going to put him in an easily-situation involving an overly-elaborate and exotic death.
SCOTT EVIL: Why don't you just shoot him now? Here, I'll get a gun. We'll just shoot him. Bang! Dead. Done.

I was given this arc for an honest review.

The story picks up with Tom having left Alaska and is now in Washington. Stopping for gas he sees a girl being manhandled towards the bathroom of the gas station. Asking what the problem is and being told to mind his business, he of course does not. After defeating those men he tries to get information out of the girl.
Taylor wants to tell Tom what is going on but it only comes out slowly and not before he is stopped by a deputy. After that he works on freeing her again and once he finds out what she wants which is to get to Oregon to be with her brother and his wife. This might not be as easy as it seems. Tom has to use every skill and them some throughout this book. The story is fast-paced and will keep you going from the opening pages to the end which I must say even that surprised me as well. A very good story and one of the better books in the series. Very much worth the read. I received this book from Netgalley.com

Not good

Tom Rollins is just a watered down version of his former self. I got halfway through and I couldn’t read the rest. The action and fight sequences we’re just so full of stupid decisions that a former operative or Tom Rollins in the first book would never make these decisions. They were just plain ignorant and Because they were so bad, I found myself just skimming the pages to get to the end of the conclusion. I wonder if the author even remembers the first and second book where Tom Rollins appeared. The author definitely ruined a good character. I guess I won’t have to wait for Tom Rollins book 6.

Minding his own business in Washington, Tom comes across Taylor, and underage girl struggling with several guys at a gas station. Tom gets Taylor away from these guys and a great chase ensues. Turns out Taylor is chipped, allowing the pursuers to follow them until the chip is discovered. Taylor is abused by the head of a temple, who in addition to being a pedophile is a complete nut job. This is kind of like a Reacher story. I thought it was very fast paced, very entertaining. Pretty fortunate for Tom that the majority of the bad guys just wanted to take him on with fists, clubs and knives and not guns. Glad I have more of these, definitely read the next.

Tom cannot see anyone in trouble - he is compelled to help. He sees a teenager being dragged to a car at a convenience store. This is the starting point of one of the most fast-paced stories I read so far this year. Members of a cult are exploiting minors and it seems like no one in town acknowledges it. This story has a lot of action, and many leads that do not end well. It sure provides a few hours of great entertainment!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Tom is former special forces guy who wanders the country and seems to get pulled into helping people when he comes upon bad situations (kind of like Reacher & Widow) but with a car.

He is in the state of Washington having come from Alaska and his last "adventure" and happens upon a bunch of thugs manhandling a young teen girl. Of course, he can't let it go and it starts from there. Taylor has run away from her captors - again but this time she finds help.

Lots of action and bad guys getting beat. It's a strong 3.75 but I rounded up.

Ok'ish

Was tempted to give this 2*, but in the end decided that would be a tad harsh
The options open the bad guys throughout the book we're far more extreme than those actually taken, yet references to past endeavors intimated they had gone to those extremes previously. As a result Tom flourishes, able to win every confrontation with ease. It led to a lack of credibility to the whole storyline
The other characters in the book, both good and bad were well rounded, especially Taylor, the young lady this primarily revolves around

This is an excellent read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

A good thriller that has Rollins becoming suspicious of a group of men and a young girl while filling his vehicle with gas. A suspicion that leads to conflict with the group and rescue of the girl from their grasp. On taking her to her brother he discovers that she was on the run from a religious cult as cover for sexual abuse of children . The cult do not relent on trying to get her back into their clutches and it takes all of his skills to keep them safe.

This one has comparatively simple plot. Tom Rollins again got embroiled in someone else's trouble. This time it's a fourteen year old girl running away from her stepfather. While saving the girl and a pissing off bunch of bad guys, Rollins finds a dirty business going on in an institution. The story doesn't have much depth. Loved the character of teenager Taylor. There are other good books in the series but this one isn't that strong.

He tells a good story and brings in some good characters who won’t be around for the next story. The Hero is involved in too many car crashes. It takes too long to figure out why they keep getting found. The story seems to follow previous stories where there is an evil rich guy, minions coming out of the woodwork for the hero to beat up and one equally tough bad guy. The author does s good job of keeping reader interested but could work a little more on the story.

Sadly, a Great Deal of Reality!

A fiction work which should be read by everyone. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of non-fiction in this works, but the more we as a populous recognize the reality of much of this story, the more our children will be protected from such issues. Well written, events well described, certainly good research. Not just a good mystery, but a powerful storyline.

Good, exciting series

Many series have a lot of information about places, items of interest, etc., which add to the enjoyment of the story.
This series does not that much, but that does not take away from the pleasure of reading the series. A little unusual writing style and the fast paced action keep you wanting to go to the next book in the series. Once you start, you’ll be hooked.

Tom Rollins is a great guy

I've enjoyed all the books in this series, including "Road Kill". There's a not too of action, but good character development too. With all the evil guys in this story you'd think Tom Rollins would kill a lot of guys. He maims a bunch, but not too many die, which was a chance from previous books. I power read the book. Its that good!

All I have to say is Tom Rollins has some stamina and great healing powers. I wonder what vitamins he takes. His body certainly takes a pounding.
I am enjoying these books and wait with bated breath during his many altercations. Tom certainly finds trouble.
I am sure anyone reading these books will find it hard to put down
Enjoy.

QUESTION?!?

Finished book 5…starting book 6. Enjoying the reads…Tom is a credible alpha male hero who tries to avoid killing his attackers…good at breaking bones, however. Storylines are also credible. Question: why, Paul, do you have this penchant for bloodletting…why are your characters always chewing on their body parts? It’s creepy! Just sayin’.

Terrific

This really is one of the most enjoyable series around. Tom Rollins is a great character willing to help those who can't stand up for themselves, whatever the cost, and with no hesitation in dealing out hurt to those who deserve it. Plenty of fast moving action keeps you gripped to the end, and ready for the next in series.

Big southern churches.

I really like all of the Tom Rollins books . I guess I don't understand how people can be duped into believing these big money making churches are anything but about faith. Oh well!

Fantastic read but.......

I've read all five books and the story lines were great. The only thing I did not like in the books is the language. Not necessary to have that kind of language.

You can do better than that.

A chance encounter between Tom and a runaway set in motion events in two states.
Once again Tom helps the helpless. Like trouble is just waiting for him.
On to the next adventure.
