So I’ve enjoyed the books in this series so far. This one was well written and had a great storyline and characters. It wasn’t perfect for me in that some of the times there was a little too much overthinking and overreacting or introspection. However, I liked that the issue with the ex-boyfriend was really a different take on other stories like this that I’ve read.

While I don’t mind insta-love or even just insta-lust most of the time, this came off a little too insta for me in some ways. However, overall I really liked the family situations, the way things were worked out and most of the ways things were handled in the different situations. There were a few times I wish for maybe a little more showing instead of telling, but then there were other times I felt we were getting a lot of info in the character’s introspective moments that maybe was not completely necessary.

I was definitely curious about other characters we met, especially some of Hunter’s family members. Would be interested in stories or more about some of them as well!

This was my first experience with this author, but it certainly won't be my last. I was quickly drawn into this story through the personalities of our main characters. Catherine is strong and independent, but like so many of us, she has her weak spots that she does her best to disguise. Hunter has so many gifts, but he also faces so much society pressure working against him. The chemistry between these two is instant and electric; it crackles across every scene where we see them together. This story caught me off guard in so many ways, because I feel like it's telling us more than just the story it set out to tell. It challenges us to lead with our hearts, while also daring us to embrace forgiveness. I am particularly intrigued by the storyline with Catherine's ex, since the resolution there is very different than what is typical in this genre. I adored the ending to this book, and I look forward to digging in and reading much more by this author.

4 Star review of The Right Guy (Meet Cute Book Club #4) by Mel Walker

Mel Walker is a relatively new author to me but what I have read I have enjoyed. I was intrigued when I rad the blurb for The Right Guy and was excited to read. What’s a woman to do when faced with attending her friends wedding and knowing that her ex is bringing the woman he replaced her with? Find a fake boyfriend to help her save face.
That’s the position that successful businesswoman Catherine finds herself in when she heads to Mesa, Arizona. Turning to Hunter to help her he agrees. However what starts out as fake quickly becomes real to everyone including Catherine and Hunter.
The friendships that Catherine has with the other members of the Meet Cute Book Club added an additional layer to the story as well as the twists and turns that had me guessing.
What will happen when secrets are revealed? Will it bring them together or rip them apart?

This is the fourth book in this series. They can be read as standalone books. This is the first book by Mel that I have read. Catherine is home for a friend’s wedding. As much as she loves her home town and her family, she doesn’t miss her ex, Palmer. He is determined to let her know that she will never be happy without him. An encounter with him has her making a desperate move. She tells him she has a boyfriend. She hopes that the man she met earlier at the event center will play along. And he does. Kissing her like no one else has before. Hunter was taken with Catherine right away but kissing is like nothing ever before. It doesn’t take long for both of them to want more. But they both think the other is only interested in the fake part. Then there is the fact that Hunter is faking more than his relationship with Catherine. How will Catherine react when he tells her the truth? This book was a fun read. Not any heat really. All the books in this series have been cute reads. Some with more heat than others. I look forward to reading more books in this series. Great job Mel.

Catherine is a very successful woman in all areas but one, relationships. She's going home for a friend's wedding, but since her ex will be there with her replacement, she's not so excited about that whole situation. I really didn't like her ex so much, as he was just awful to her. She decides that she needs a fake relationship to deal with this, and that's how Hunter comes into her life or maybe just maybe it was fate. Of course, the fake is not so fake which we can all see as the sparks are flying, and they're just so perfect together. However, Hunter has some secrets that definitely won't make friends, and you already know it's only a matter of time which had me on the edge of my seat waiting on that other shoe to drop. Once again the supporting cast in the Meet Cute Book Club series is phenomenal, and they alone are worth the whole 5 stars. I LOVE this series so much, and Mel Walker's The Right Guy is a perfect addition to all the fun! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I just finished reading The Right Guy. I have to say it was delightful.
I have read romances written by male authors before and am always taken by the subtle (sometimes, not so subtle) shift in tone that the male voice brings to the page. This is no exception.
In Hunter, Mel Walker brings to life a character and perspective that is intriguing, genuine, and sometimes missing in the body of romance works. I love how Hunter pulls from himself exactly what each moment requires without forgetting who he is.
Walker's female characters are bright and thoughtfully written. And while The Right Guy isn't over the top explicit, there is an authentic, steamy. seductive, tension roiling below the surface of every encounter between Hunter and Catherine on the way to their happily ever after.

It was a lovely read that left me with all the warm fuzzies I expected. I recommend it to anyone looking for the perfect beach or rainy day read.

Catherine returns to her hometown for a friend’s wedding filled with anxiety over seeing her ex-boyfriend. Even though it’s been three years, he has a way of making her life miserable. And of course, he’ll be at the wedding.

Hunter is new to town. He’s working at the wedding reception venue under the guise of a maintenance worker. And when he discovers a beautiful woman being accosted by a rude man, he rushes to her side to rescue her. Let the fake relationship begin…

The Right Guy by Mel Walker is a gem of a romance story. I’ve never read this author before, but I loved their word choices and the spin they put into the standard romance pacing. The story was fresh and new with a great cast of supporting characters, especially Catherine’s sister Adrienne. I can see an awesome story for her in the future.

Loved this story!

I was given a free advanced release copy without expectation from the author.

Catherine has mixed feelings about returning home as she is happy about her friend’s upcoming wedding, but she is dreading seeing her ex again. Their first payment couldn’t have been any worse until Hunter rescues her from the situation by pretending to be her boyfriend.

Hunter has recently come to town and is working at the location where Catherine’s friend’s wedding is happening. One kiss would be all it would take for the sparks to fly and they now find themselves in a pretend relationship but that isn’t the only surprise that is about to revealed.

Catherine is about to find out that there is a lot about Hunter that she doesn’t know but the one truth that can’t be denied is their feelings for each other.

Mel Walker has definitely roped me in. This book will take you through it. Catherine has a lot to deal with returning home to her small-town home after been gone for three years. Running into her ex in inevitable. Hunter the new guy in town becomes Catherine's saving grace as her fake wedding date. Definitely not wanting to deal with her ex and his antics Catherine forges ahead and tries to make the best of her visit.

The chemistry was evident from the beginning for Catherine and Hunter. The relationship that they organically formed was great to see.

This book keeps your interest from page one. Mel has done it again.

Catherine returns home to a sweet little town for a friend's wedding only to be set up by her obsessed former boyfriend Palmer Easton (great portrayal of a sad villian).
As she is talking with Palmer, enters Hunter (fake boyfriend) an a stranger's kiss. Hunter carries secrets. His family's success has set him out to advance on his own.
"Life's best memories are those which we don't control." I loved the continuation of the Meet Cute Book Club.
Realistic, action packed, page Turner with a great storyline an plots.
First time reading this male author with a small town romance. It won't be my last time reading his work.

I. Loved. This. Book. Catherine and Hunter are both relatable, and from their meet-cute to their epilogue, I was captivated. Mel Walker is a new-to-me author, and I will be looking up his backlist for sure. The best part of multi-author series like this is discovering authors I would not be exposed to otherwise. This is absolutely a five star read, and very one clickable.

The Right Guy is part of the "Meet Cute Book Club" series. Its a fake dating romance and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was very sweet. It was a little insta-lovey, but I found I didn't mind because I enjoyed the characters so much and how they interacted. Hunter is now on my book boyfriend list. I adored his character. I also really like Catherine and her relationship with her sister. I won't spoil the plot, I'll just definitely recommend reading it.

Catherine is going home for her friend's wedding and there is no way to avoid her ex-boyfriend. He knows she's coming and knows her schedule. She has just spent three days in Abbott Ridge with her friends in The Meet Cute Book Club. Once a month they have zoom meetings since they live across the country, but once a year they all meet in the small town of Abbott Ridge where they went to college.

She was fine until she got on the plane heading to Mesa, Arizona where she could no longer avoid Palmer Easton. The man whose heart she had broken and who was determined to make her life miserable. But when she received Eva's wedding invitation with a handwritten note saying "Don't you dare say no" she had no choice.

When she goes to check out the venue for her friend she is horrified to see the condition of Legendary Hall. She had heard rumors, but it was in worse condition than she had expected. The owner had retired and handed the business down to his son who was running it in the ground. As she is going over everything that he needs to take care of before the weekend reception she turns to face her ex-boyfriend. She should have known he would have called him.

As she stands and listens to Palmer rant at her and how no one will ever want her, she is surprised to see the maintenance man approaching them. But instead of the grimy maintenance uniform, he was now dressed in nice dress slacks and a polo shirt. Not what you would expect from a maintenance worker. When she introduces him as her new boyfriend she is thankful that he plays along.

I loved this book. It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This book was hard to put down once I started reading. Catherine feels bad about lying to her family and friends about Hunter, but she isn't the only one lying.

This book is action-packed and full of intrigue from page one. Catherine is scared to get into another relationship after Palmer and when Hunter realizes he doesn't want a fake relationship with Catherine he is scared that when she finds out about his deception she won't give him a chance.

I loved Catherine and Hunter's journey as he fights to prove that he is the right guy for her. I highly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by Mel Walker.

The twists contained within these pages are not for the faint of heart. They’re for those looking to find redemption, love, determination, hard work paying off, and unending stubbornness that could hinder or help along the way. Catherine is back in town for a wedding and is NOT looking forward to the vitriol sure to be served up by her ex. Hunter is new to town, new to the Legendary, and the perfect solution to the problem known as Palmer and his awfulness. But maybe all isn’t as it seems. Maybe the bad guy isn’t so bad and is merely lost. Maybe the fake isn’t so fake. But maybe the real isn’t so real either.

This series has thrown me something great with each new author’s story, and this one is no exception. Catherine and her worries that maybe she’s the problem really spoke to me. She’s so utterly true to life that most women could find a piece of themselves in her. And Hunter? Oh, Hunter. He’s perfect for Catherine. Yeah, the foundation he’s laid may be more clay than cement, but that clay has some good in it, if he and Catherine get the chance to dig into it. Yes, it takes some colossal missteps on all parts to get to the truth of all matters, but doesn’t life sometimes do that anyway?

I’ll admit that I was hooked from the first page here. I knew that we had another great story when Hunter and Catherine met, then when they MET a little bit later. I knew secrets were hiding so close to the surface, and I feared what they may do to this “it’s not real but it sure ain’t fake” relationship. And I was so glad everything ended up exactly as it should. And if that’s an unexpected twist to what both Catherine and Hunter thought they needed, it’s even better! So enjoy your time with these two. They’ll give you some serious enjoyment while they find their way to love.

The first thing I noticed about The Right Guy by Mel Walker was his mastery of language and beautiful use of words to create a story that was not only highly entertaining, but pleasing to read. Mr. Walker’s facility with words conveyed the original story of Catherine, a young woman who reluctantly returns to her hometown because Preston, her nasty ex, will be attending her friend’s wedding, and Hunter, an accomplished, suave, sophisticated and extraordinarily aware man who assists Catherine when Preston gets too grabby and confrontational. Hunter pretends to be Catherine’s boyfriend and kisses her in front of Preston which sends him scurrying away. Everyone needs a Hunter in their life, he is the total package, a gentle man of grace and substance, well-spoken, well-mannered, who knows right from wrong and has the courage to do what needs to be done regardless of the potential danger to himself. My eyes saw through Hunter’s what subtle and not so subtle prejudices, obstacles, walls, and traps, he faces on a daily basis. And Catherine is a woman to be emulated, strong, independent, driven, compassionate and loving. Her sister was a hoot, who reminded me of someone I know with the same personality, so I could relate well to her antics! And the story develops when Hunter agrees to assist Catherine through the wedding by pretending to be her boyfriend. I won’t give away anymore of this story, but I could not put it down once I started reading, it was that good. Mr. Walker just went on my list of authors I read regularly! This novel is a great read!!

Catherine is going home for the first time in a while, this time unlike the others there will be no avoiding her ex. Her best friend Ava is getting married, and Palmer is a friend of Carlos, the groom.

Unfortunately, Palmer has interfered and now the wedding is at what was once a premier catering venue, Legendary Hall. Catherine once worked there, but she moved out state to her current position in Indiana needing to grow and develop her skills away from her hometown and Palmer. Legendary Hall has gone downhill since the owner retired and his son Frankie took over.

Hunter recently moved to Mesa. He's working at Legendary Hall but not for the money. He has an ulterior motive that begins with learning all that's gone wrong with the venue.

Catherine crosses paths with Hunter as she does a favor for Ava. Checking that all is on schedule and planned properly at Legendary Hall. Her encounter with Frankie is topped only by the appearance of Palmer. Of course, he's got plenty to say to her and none of it is nice.

Without conversation, Hunter plays along with Catherine. He agrees to be her date for Ava's wedding. However, there's some legwork to be done to appear as a couple.

Neither of them expects to actually start to fall in love. There are many things they aren't talking about, and those things could destroy the budding relationship.

I love the way this story plays out, there are ups and downs and plenty of surprises.

I really enjoyed this book “The Right Guy” by Mel Walker. This is the 4th Book in Meet The Cute Book Club. Mel Walker is relatively new author to me and I will definitely be reading more of his books!! The characters grab a hold of you right through to the end of the book. Catherine is a successful manager of a premier event space in the state. She has accomplished pretty much everything in her life she has wanted and accomplished it outstandingly other than finding a partner to share her life with. She is coming home for a friends wedding and is well aware her ex will be bringing her replacement (in her eyes), so she decided she needs to find someone, someone to help her pull off a fake relationship with for the week. Hunter has decided to head out on his own to prove to his very wealthy and successful family that he can succeed without their assistance. A New city, new job, new people all a great plan until he is kissed by a beautiful woman and convinced to play along being her fake boyfriend when he realizes if his secret of who he is comes out will destroy everything.
I couldn’t put the book down and found myself reading until 4am when I had to finally close the book when I had to be up an hour later to head to a doctors appointment lol I did finish it in the car while my husband drove lol. I received this Readers Advanced Copy for my honest review. Happy reading 😀

Another installment in the Meet Cute book club - this one is a fake relationship Hunter and Catherine form a fake relationship in order to avoid her ex and his snide comments. Yet, their fake relationship looks a little too real to Catherine and her conscious starts to bother her. In the meantime, Hunter is not the maintenance man that Catherine met when she first arrived back home and once Hunter’s secrets are revealed, Cat finds it hard to forgive him. Some of Hunter’s actions remind Cat of her ex, Palmer, who is flaunting Catherine’s doppelgänger around town. Palmer has a dark side and as Hunter overhears him, Hunter only wants to protect Catherine, whom he has formed real feelings for in a short period of time. The story centers around a local venue that both Hunter and Catherine want, the Legendary, a catering and event hall that had been the darling event hall of the state before the owner went into retirement and allowed his son to run it into the ground. Who will win The Legendary, Catherine with her strong emotional ties to it or Hunter with his deep pockets and family money? There is a happy ending between Hunter and Catherine and Palmer finally let’s go of his illusions of Catherine.

This is Book number four of the oh so fun and delightful Meet Cute Book Club series, and I couldn't put it down! Each book in the series is written by a different author so you get a taste of different writing styles. But the essence of the series is skillfully crafted and brought to life in each installment, and this one was no different. The characters were well-developed and endearing and I was pulled into their story from the very start. Catherine has a strong and independent personality, but also has her flaws and weaknesses which made her very relatable. Hunter wants to become independent himself and distance himself from his powerful family's influence. Not wanting to admit to her ex she is single, she embarks on a fake relationship with Hunter. But it doesn't take long for fake to turn into real feelings and their story will leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling. I also enjoyed the friendship of the girls in the Meet Cute Book Club which added more depth to the story.
This was a charming and delightful story that I thoroughly enjoyed and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Highly recommended!

RECOMMENDED FOR: those that like small town / starting over / secret identity

First my usual points:

- I do not do spoilers unless warned.
- Read the summary above; it will tell you what the book is about. I will not reiterate.
- This is a standalone.
- No errors that I caught as far as editing.
- The author was new to me

BOOK:
- Contemporary, romance
- 1st person with dual POV

Star Ratings - 1 (poor) - 5(READ THIS BOOK)
· Writing Quality: 5 stars
· Story ingredient: 4 stars
· Ease of reading/Pace: 5 stars
· Plot strength: 4 stars
· Steam Level: 3.5-4 stars - open door scenes but not explicitly graphic

Notes/Opinion (personal):
Hunter and Cartherine are likable and relatable characters. Neither is over the top crazy/grumpy and their story is a bit crazy at times but nothing like I've seen other 'popular' books. I enjoyed just seeing them go from strangers to friends to something more without the hijinks that I see in other books. I really enjoyed it.

I don’t think this series is my type of book because I just haven’t jived with any of them, and they’ve all received rave reviews. I read all the words until about 40% and then I skimmed the rest of the book.

This one was overly predictable…it is clear what is going to happen from the very beginning. There is INSTA love yet it was murky because of the fake date thing.

Catherine was not likeable, yet we’re supposed to feel for her. The villainous ex-boyfriend whose heart was broken so he was vile to her at every turn but with one public conversation from her at a wedding and he does a complete 180.

Hunter is a good guy and I’m not sure why he is so infatuated with Catherine. She gave me whiplash trying to keep up with her and I wasn’t on the receiving end of things.

I did like Catherine’s sister and parents but there was mention of their past relationship with Catherine that was dangling. I had many questions about their relationship.

I’ve committed to the series, so I’ll finish but I’ve definitely learned this type of series is not for me.

Mel Walker gives us a very enthusiastic romance between well-matched people who think they are just pretending. Hunter is a businessman from a business family, playing a janitor to check out a potential buy. He accidentally appears at just the right moment for Catherine, an equally astute businesswoman, who pulls him in to fool her ex, who won't let her go. They kiss, and something moves both of them. She feels terrible about the deception after he meets her sister, who loves him for her. The relationship, fake or real, goes forward and backward. With help, Catharine realizes what she needs and wants and goes for it. So does Hunter. For once, both of them have nice, supportive families--many thanks to the author. My only disappointment was the absence of their sexual connection, which would have been hot indeed. The writing is excellent, with all the plot points fitting together perfectly--thank you!

This is my first read by this author and I absolutely loved this book and will definitely be checking out other books by this author. Catherine has been sent to check out how preparations are going at the wedding venue for her best friend who is getting married. She bumps into Hunter one of the maintenance men there and feels attracted to him after chatting with him and is impressed by his knowledge. She goes to meet the owner who turns out to be Palmer her ex and he starts verbally abusing her. Hunter comes to Catherine's rescue and pretends he is her boyfriend and to stop talking to his girlfriend like that. I won't tell you too much more as I don't want to spoil the story for you.
I received an arc for my honest review for NNBB. If you love a sweet romance with some twists and turns you will love this book. Although this is Book four in Meet Cute Book club it is able to be read as a stand-alone.

I haven’t read much by this author and I honestly don’t know why because every book I have picked up has been enjoyable and entertaining so I guess that means I need to find some time to check out other works by Mel Walker. The Right Guy is Catherine and Hunter’s fake relationship to true love story and it’s a great addition to the Meet Cute Book Club.
Catherine needs a date for her friends wedding, her ex will be there with the woman he replaced her with so going alone was never going to be an option. Hunter is the man who agrees to a fake date but what happens when this couple realise they want more than one night…..
This couple may be perfect for each other but both have secrets and it’s those secrets that will either make or break this friendship and love story. This was captivating tale that had a fair few twists and turns you don’t see coming and for me an added bonus was catching up with previous characters from the Meet Cute Book Club books.

The Right Guy by Mel Walker

This is the first book from this author for me so I’m excited. Love finding new authors especially ones who can write a really good funny romance. This was a refreshing book and I truly enjoyed it. I’m surprised I have not read anything by this author before. This is Catherine’s story and I loved her she was strong and feisty which I truly enjoy. She is going home for her friends Eva’s wedding but is dreading it because of her petty ex Palmer. Then we have Hunter he works at the Legendary Hall where the wedding will take place and there he meets Catherine. They pretend to be in a relationship but things get complicated fast. It was cute and funny and entertaining and I couldn’t put it down. I look forward to more from this author and highly recommend.

Okay, fake dating has to be my top favorite trope. And this story has fake dating with plot twists that the reader eventually sees doming, but the other characters do not. I loved it! We’ve got a protective gentleman hero, an independent yet slightly lost in life heroine, and an idiot ex that causes tons of opportunities for Hunter and Catherine’s relationship to grow as they stand united against him.

There were no steamy scenes, but points where the reader gets a clear impression on how spicy these two would be once the finally got together. I enjoyed the genuine way their like and respect for one another developed as the “fake” relationship developed… as if the more Hunter and Catherine knew about one another, the more they each wanted a future but felt it was impossible. Until all the plot twists come to light.

Another great book in the Meet Cute Book Club series. This is a fake relationship story that I instantly fell in love with. Hunter and Catherine had me hooked. Hunter is very swoon worthy in this one. He is a man who notices the details and the important ones. I loved Catherine's family especially her sister. Catherine shows plenty class and the kindness in heart in this one. Her ex is a piece of work and I could feel how frustrated she was through this book. I loved the support system she has. I could feel the love! It's a really good story that pulls you right. Great characters with depth. You can feel how important the history is to this small town. People are more important than money. I was kind of reading between my fingers with Hunter because the secrets he is keeping. Waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it kept the intrigue alive.

My ex is bringing my replacement to our friend’s wedding, what do I do?
Option A: Leave the state
Option B: Find a fake boyfriend for the week

The Right Guy is a super cute contemporary romance which follows Catherine, a successful event space manager and Hunter, an undercover millionaire as they navigate a fake (not fake!) relationship while facing Catherine's ex.

This book is very well written with dual POVs which flow seamlessly and whilst it is part of the Meet Cute Book Club, it can be read on it's own.

I did find the storyline a bit predictable with the fake turned insta-love, undercover millionaire, happy ever after and savior at the wedding. However I LOVED that Catherine really owned it at the wedding and didn't let Hunter do all the work.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
