I'm a dog person. Who lives with 10 cats. Get the picture?
My first brush with the romance genre happened in my high school junior year. I discovered Gone With the Wind and hid it behind my American history book to read during class. (The Civil War is American history.) The ambiguous ending left me dissatisfied, though. Rhett and Scarlet needed a happily-ever-after. Believing in happily-ever-afters positively screams romantic-at-heart.
On the other hand, I love murder and mayhem as much as happily-ever-after. My usual television fare is fiction and nonfiction crime shows, not love stories. Which accounts for the mysteries I sneaked into my historical romances. Now I'm trying my hand at writing a humorous mystery, sans historical and sans emphasis on the love interest. I even prepared for my mystery-in-progress by attending the local NRA's Pistol School. Shooting pistols is great fun. I adore the .22 semiautomatics.
After graduating from high school without distinction, I earned both Bachelor and Master degrees at a state college. Again, without distinction. I held several part-time jobs during my college days: file clerk in an insurance company, long-distance telephone operator, kimono-wearing waitress in a Japanese restaurant.
And then I began my teaching career, eighteen years in the eighth grade and thirteen years at the high school. Weary with the same old routine, I decided I needed a creative outlet. So I decided to write a romance novel but only managed to talk about writing one. After five years of listening to me, a friend said to stop talking and start writing.
So I did.
I made every mistake known to man. Blunder would be a more appropriate word, but I did learn using the trial and error method. As well as studying the works of authors I admired.
After five years of writing for nothing but love, I sold my first novel. Since then, I've sold eighteen novels and won several awards--- National Readers' Choice Award New England Readers' Choice Award, Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice and KISS Awards, B. Dalton and Bookrak Awards for best-selling author. My novels have been translated into fifteen languages and sold in twenty countries.
If I had my life over, would I become a writer? Nope. I would enjoy being a Victoria Secret model. Perhaps in my next incarnation I won't be too old, too short, or too unphotogenic.
Read: 12/4/25 Setting: 1820, England Trope: second chances, beauty and the beast theme, MOC 3.5 stars Can be read as a standalone
plot: Princess Amber is the unrecognized, illegitimate daughter of Czar Alexander. Amber is forced to leave her homeland after overhearing her cruel uncle and Count G (slave trader) discussing their horrendous plans for her. She flees to her cousin Rudolf in England. Amber needs protection, she needs a powerful husband. Rudolf introduces her to Miles. He's a good friend, but a man with many scars. He hopes these two lonely people can heal each other.
Miles Montgomery has suffered a great loss. His wife and unborn child were burned to death in a fire. Miles was scared trying to save her. He now lives in seclusion on his estate. So, it's an understatement to say, he wasn't happy when his friend brings Amber to his home. Miles can't bring himself to care for another human being, only to lose them again. Still, a friendship develops and they end up married. Miles plans to keep her at arms distance. Unfortunately, that's easier said then done. Amber awakes something in Miles. She's sees past his scars and sees the man beneath them. Love grows
As the pair fall in love, their enemies are preparing for their downfall. Our villains from Russia are not done with Amber. Also, Amber starts asking questions about what really happened the night of the fire 🤔
liked: 1. Amber was fantastic! Top of the list of best heroines! She was strong and brave. I liked that Amber accepts reality and doesn't wallow in self-pity. Seriously, with everything that has happened to her, she should have been bitter and suspicious of men. Instead, she was generous, patient, and VERY understanding of Miles's pain. 2. I really like this author's writing style! She has a whimsical touch to her stories and I'm never bored. 3. I really loved the secondary characters! While I enjoyed having Isabelle (book 1) in the story, Amber's Russian relatives stole the show 😍. I want to read their books! - I should point out, that while the author does an excellent job of incorporating them into the story, they don't steal the the show from the main characters. 🙏 4. . Amber said, " Thank you, Mister-?" "Just Pebbles, ma'ma." " Thank you, Mister Just Pebbles. " - I don't know why but Amber calling him "Mister Just Pebbles." through the whole book was adorable! It bonded the mistress and butler in a charming way. Luckily, the author doesn't overdo the language barriers. That could have gotten annoying, fast!
********** spoilers********** Dislikes: 1. Miles! For the most part, I really enjoyed him. He wasn't mean and he had a charming personality under his scarred exterior. But he has some big red flags! * His beloved wife dies in a fire and he becomes a recluse. Understandable! What's not understandable is not investigating what started the fire. I think I would want to know every detail of the night that stole my soul mate. It takes Amber ONE day to figure everything out and catch the villain. Idiot! * Miles leaves his daughter in his sister's care. For 4 years! He visits everyday, though 🤪. * He knows Amber is endanger and her uncle is after her, but he believes the lie that she ran off with her old Russian beau. He doesn't do anything, but tell his daughter that her new mommy is never coming back. Oh, and he gets papers ready to divorce Amber. Even if Miles believed the lies, Amber was carrying his heir. I guess he didn't carry about his child either! 😡. Luckily, he does a lot of groveling at the end.
- All those red flags, but I still liked him for most of the book. 🤪 IK!
2. Amber was way too good for Miles! This h deserved a better man! Still, I didn't begrudge them their HEA.
Conclusion: Even with all the book's many flaws, I still found this a delightful read! Though, not PG's best book

OMG!The book was very unnaturally written! There was a lot of intercepting plots that were kind of moving fast forward so the whole story felt like a big summary instead of a regular book. I had a suspicion that the author just kept adding: and then and then and then until the very end. I also have no idea what was the purpose of the daughter the earl had. She was not really part of anything and had no meaning. Well, except the really weird conversations about Lord Naughty that I think were supposed to be cute, but in reality just felt like an 50 year old spinster stuck in a child’s body is having brain damage . The earl was a moron yeah, and my glass was full and tipping over with his dear dear dead wife and her creepy life size pictures in all the rooms. I hate goody two shoes ex loves-Gah! But what can you do, eh? Oh, and the earl said himself that she would not love him if she had the scars when he met her. How nice, huh? Totally a woman to pin after forever. But still, it was all very inventive and I love love LOVE Russians in England when it comes to HR. When they are blond and blue-eyed its an instant win for me. What can I say? Sue me for being shallow :) lol So all in all it was a cute read. Not the best one out there, not even the runner up, but still I would give it a 3.5 stars. Any way…if you want something to do in these rainy spring days that are to come pick up some hot tea and this book. It will be relaxing and luvable.
My favorite trope of the Wounded/Scarred hero comes alive in the story and warmed my heart! A broken man after his wife died in a fire and her was scarred, Miles, Earl of Stratford, preferred to sit in the dark and only do business deals. Not get back into society. His brother in law and Prince Rudolf Kazanov came to talk to him about a deal, but all they could do was urge him to get back into society and find a wife. Little did he know, that wife would come to him in the form of Kazanov's cousin, Princess Amber. She had to flee Russia or her uncle was going to sell her off as a slave. All she wanted was to quickly find a husband and marry before her uncle found her. Of course her cousin thought of Miles and quickly took her to see him. A story of loss, danger, a villian, mystery and a long journey to happy ever after with several twist and turns!
I actually really enjoyed reading this book, I found it entertaining and it had my complete attention. All the characters became real to me and between the heartbreak and the heartache, there was humour, passion, intrigue, danger and love. It also has one of my favourite tropes....a scarred/wounded hero!!
My heart went out to Miles, having lost his wife in a fire and being left quite scarred while trying to save her. For 4 years he's shunned going out in society and lives in darkness. When Princess Amber enters his life and asks for his help, he finds himself unable to refuse her. She's the light to his darkness but he's been mourning his dead wife for so long, he's forgotten what to do with that light. I loved Amber's character, such an innocent and yet strong heroine who has always felt alone and unloved. This is their story and how two lost souls finally find each other!!

Oh, my goodness! There are so many things wrong with this book that I don't know where to start. Perhaps with the cover. This book is supposed to be late Regency, and that dress wouldn't have ever been acceptable Regency garb. I found the language to not only have childish constructions but was actually icky in parts, especially when several men discuss “planting” babies in women, sometimes to their faces before marriage! Ewww. Again, this is the Regency Era. Other bits of language were far too modern, constantly jarring me out of the story. I also didn't think that a Russian princess would be named Amber. That is such a contemporary name and certainly not Russian.
But the problems with this book are more than skin deep. The *hero*, and I use that term loosely, acts more like a bad guy than a romantic hero. This young woman was brought to him for honorable protection, but he determines to keep her as a mistress instead, wanting to plant those babies without the benefit of marriage. He was supposed to save not sully her. He literally made my skin crawl with all his shenanigans (and yes, he wants to bed other women as well). He was stupid and cruel, neither of which is a good quality in a romantic hero. The young woman is sympathetic given her plight, but ultimately she is stupid as well, as she allows the hero to treat her so shabbily. And, my goodness, the legal wrangling near the end was just nonsensical. If you enjoy Regency romance as I do, there are far better books out there.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I had promised myself that I would finish any book I started. However, I couldn't bring myself to continue reading this! I'm sorry but the writing was so amateur to me and quite repetitious with phrases such as "Miles inclined his head", "her sunshine smile" and the story itself - my goodness, could the princess be any more weak or pitiful? The man verbally abuses her and she "reacts as though struck" (another overused phrase), and hides in her room and he offers a simple apology and she simply accepts it and no more than two pages later, he pisses her off again only for her to readily forgive him. STOP THE MADNESS!!! I plodded through the first chapters, despite my better judgement, because I thought this was perhaps a first novel for this author. Not so! Suffice it to say, I will hesitate before picking up another book by Patricia Grasso if this is the norm in her writing. I do plan on finishing the book - at a later date, of course - and if I find at that time that my opinion of this book and its author has changed, I'll not hesitate to state as much.
On a positive note: The cover is absolutely gorgeous!
I wanted to like this book. I really did. There were parts that were not awful but unfortunately, they were surrounded by sections that were really kind of awful. This book feels dated and considering it was published twenty years ago it is no wonder. Historical romance tropes have moved on since then but even two decades ago I think this book would've felt behind the times. Amber and Miles as characters are also not great. There are a couple of dub-con scenes where Miles goes into Amber's room while she is sleeping, watches her and touches her while she is asleep. That is so not, okay. Plus Miles does that trope of "I can't handle my feelings, so I am going to treat my love interest like crap rather than be an adult about the whole situation." Both Amber and Miles are so emotionally immature and make really really bad decisions because of it. All in all, it was not good, and I wouldn't recommend it.
This was a very well written book with great intrigue and adventure and wonderfully descriptive scenes. There is drama and suspense and of course romance which made for a captivating tale and I was thoroughly engrossed till the end. The characters were wonderfully defined and I enjoyed getting to know them through the course of the story. I really enjoyed seeing Miles and Amber's relationship grow. This is a heartwarming story of trust and compassion how two lost souls find their way to each other. Very beautifully written!

Beautiful, emotional love story. Amber has to flee Russia or be sold as a breeder by a slave trader. Her cousin hooks her up with Miles the Earl of Stratford who needs an heir. His beloved wife died in a fire four years ago which also scarred one half of his body and he has lived like a recluse ever since. Amber has never know love and grew up lonely, as the bastard daughter of the Czar. She has longed for someone to love her and she wants marriage and children. But will Miles’ heart ever heal enough to lover her? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Book two of the Lords of Stratford/The Kazanovs series is well written and held my interest until the end. If the majordomo Pebbles had a coin for every time he got terminated because Miles Montgomery, the Earl of Stratford told he was, he would have been a rich man. I enjoyed reading Princess Amber Kazanov, Miles Montgomery and his daughter Caroline's story, I found myself laughing as I read. There is suspense, drama, danger, villains, a man with scars that can not get past them, kidnapping, and love. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book, overall, was worth reading. It had the potential to be great, but the angst was so overwhelming that it fell to just being good. I also agree with other reviewers that the book seemed to continue past what I expected would be the end. At about 50% through, I remember looking at the progress and thinking "what else is there to do?" The last half was like an extended epilogue or a part 2/second book. Happy ending, no cliffhanger, no cheating.
There is a lot in this tale. A princess in danger and needing a husband and a man dealing with the loss of his wife are the leading characters in this charming story. There is a lot in this tale and it seems to go on forever it is a very intense story. Do give yourself time to read a rush read would not do justice to this tale. I found it entertaining and very glad I took the time to reading this piece. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Beauty and the Earl is the second book in the Lords of Stratford series and is a good historical romance.
Miles Montgomery, the Earl of Stratford has trauma from the past while Princess Amber Kazanov needs a husband to protect her. Her cousin Prince Rudolf Kazanov cares for her and suggests that they marry. Can Amber make Miles see that life is worth living no matter what has happened in the past?
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation. 3.5 stars
This was a great story. At times I didn't think Amber and Miles would ever overcome their individual insecurities. Amber has a terrible threat hanging over her that no matter what they do noone can protect her. So suspenseful and yet a beautiful love story.
When Princess Amber finds out that her cousin has some nasty plans for her she runs away where she meets Lord Miles. He is still suffering the lost of his wife but is intrigued by Amber. She needs a husband to protect her but Miles is not looking for another wife. This is romance with some suspense that keeps things interesting.

my opinion : awalnya gw ngga suka ama Miles dy tuh angin - anginan ke Amber.
makanya gw kasih 4star Amber udah oke. Miles agak pengen gw tonjok
I liked this more than I thought I would. At first Amber seemed like a side character to all of the more interconnected of Patricia's historical family that I'd been reading about. I was totally wrong to think I wouldn't enjoy it as much; It's one of my favorites. Some of the ordeals that Amber went through were... graphic isn't quite the right word, in the context we think of it today... But it was to an extent. I felt like I was watching this story unfold. It was wonderful writing. Patricia Grasso is so descriptive. Miles was broken, but Amber was sunshine in his dark. I liked that :) I loved how she loved him, saw him, through the scars. Him, being a man, was dense. Lol. But he got it eventually. I REALLY loved Caroline's character. She was so incredibly sweet. When she said mummy I melted and giggled. I want a little girl like that! It was wonderful seeing the extended family again. The Kazanovs are a riot. The last two books I've read, this one and Seducing A Prince, I've been catching snippets of Stephan and Fancy. That looks like it's going to be interesting. It's been a little difficult to get my hand on that book though. I can't wait till I read it! And last, but definitely not least, ... THE MAJORDOMO! Duh. These guys have fast become some of my favorite characters of the series. Grasso makes them main characters without actually being main characters. It's fabulous. They are so funny and charming. I wish I could meet them. "Just" Pebbles was gold. I'm looking forward to meeting the next majordomo on the list. :) Highly recommended.
I really enjoy these books, they are some of my favourite and this particular book helped me find an awesome author. I love to be able to re-read them and I did so at the beginning of this year.
Miles lost his first wife in a fire and when he tried to rescue her her was unable too and ended up with minor burns on the right side of his face down to his body.
Amber is a Russian princess who overhears her terrible uncle selling her to a slave trader for her to produce babies with his male stud. She ends up fleeing Russian to the safety of her cousin. Ambers plan is to secure a husband and become pregnant so that her horrible cousin and awful slave trader cannot take her back to Russian when they find her.
In steps miles who doesn’t want another wife, is moody and still grieving over his wife 4 years later. Amber manages to win him over with her amazing personality. However their are a lot of doubts regarding their love for each other and some jealousy when old flames present themselves.
Of course Ambers awful cousin kidnapped her so they could return her to Russia and become captive. She is eventually freed by her husband and cousins. Great book, in my opinion I love cute romance stories and they definitely keep me entertained.
Princess Amber Kazanov flees her uncle’s home in Russia when she overhears him planning to sell her into sexual slavery. She makes her way to England where she pleads with her cousin to find her a husband for protection. Her relative introduces her to his friend, the Earl of Stratford.
Miles figures he’ll never marry again after the death of his wife and the disfiguring scars he received trying to rescue her from a fire. He doesn’t count on meeting the determined beauty who is cousin to his friend. At first, he resists her charms but when he hears the reason why she must wed, he agrees to become her husband. How can he know she truly cares for him and not for the mantle of protection he offers?
This was such an oddly written book. The pace and flow of the story left me completely stumped, I couldn't exactly wrap my head around this style of writing. Certain points just seemed like stilted thoughts, and other parts seemed summary-like. There wasn't a natural progression to the story. It was as if the author was just throwing random thoughts down, but didn't bother to make sure everything flowed properly.
I stopped halfway through the book last night and thought "This is so strange." Then when I finished it just now, I thought "I don't know what to think of this book." So yes...strange book that I don't know what to think of it.
I loved the book!! I liked how characters from her other books ended up in this one also!! Princess Amber over hearing her uncle selling her to a slave owner escapes from Russia making her way to England for protection. She asks her cousin Prince Rudolf to help her find a husband quickly so she can get pregnant. Rudolf introduces her to Miles who is still grieving for his dead wife Brenna for the past 4 years. Miles is also scared from the fire where us wife died and wears a mask to partially cover his face. Miles realizes he needs to start living again after he is introduced to Amber. Many things happy from passion, love betrayal before these 2 can be happy. Another great book!!
Never judge a book by cover, unfortunately our hero did this for himself and his wife and because of his insecurities he got it all wrong! It didn't help that his approach to his life and family was self-centered! As a result, he almost lost his wife to slavery! The biggest problem is trust. One can't help but to continue reading to see how issues are resolved.
