When it Rains
Ruth Zimmerman was sad, lonely, and depressed. She had lived a good life, but it was all gone. Everyone and everything she had ever loved was taken from her. She felt shunned by God and whatever remained of her life would be pointless. She wondered if she could even bear the pain of it all. Suddenly, she is paid a visit by a stranger and a miracle takes place that turns her heart and mind completely around.

I'll admit, I did not have high expectations going into this book considering the lack of reviews on it. It ended up being such a sweet little story of Ruth's life. It covered such heartbreaking circumstances but showed how she overcame them. Such a simply written book but I really enjoyed it! It was a nice change of pace from some of the more complex books I am used to reading. Some of the editing could use some work on it but I think it's an independently published book, so that is understandable!

This was such a good book. I found the saga to wrap me in and connect me to each of the main characters. The book could have gone on in continuing the development of the story but all good things come to an end.

It is a sweet story of love and kindness.
I cried when Franny passed, and Ruth was all alone for the first time of her life.
The 'old man' at the end I think was David.
I was wondering if John Henry was going to show up at Frannys funeral. I think he did.
We need more Ruth's and her family and their values these days.

I really enjoyed this book. I believe this is an Indie published book and I got it for free on Kindle once upon a time. I'm glad I was able to pick it up and read it!
This book follows Ruth down her life full of loves and losses and how she deals with those with God by her side. I did not really like how it ended, as it seemed very open ended and I hate that. 😂 Otherwise, this is a good read, especially for those that are struggling with the idea that God has taken everything from them. It is a good reminder that God is with us throughout it all all!

just found out i won this ebook 7 13 2022, thanks goodreads, cant wait to start it!
she is in the house where she and her parents were born. she starts off telling the story of her life. she was going to marry the boy she met and fell in love with in high school. both the parents liked both of them. she worked for his parents in their diner
he went to war and was killed saving the rest of the men. they all came to the diner to tell them how brave he was. they named their boys after him
the parents were getting older. they got 6 plots so they would all be buried together. the husbands both died and the women continued to run the diner.
then both women died. she hired good people to help her in the diner. 2 married each other
she went back to france twice to visit her boyfriends grave
she never got married or even went out with anyone else, she loved him all her life
the diner was knocked down for the freeway to go through.
she didnt know what she would do with the rest of her life and a man came looking for work to feed his family
i didnt understand the end where some man came to her porch and gave her photos that had never been taken or i would have given another star...but thats just me not understanding, it was a real good book and made me cry

Ruth Zimmerman's life changes when David Galloway asks her to the school dance.
The book begins pre-WWI and is basically a fictional biography of Ruth's life. The plot never really finds any other purpose.
Her kind heart and generous spirit weaves throughout the novel. There are direct and indirect spiritual references throughout. However, the importance of faithfully attending church every Sunday fades throughout Ruth's life. Hard to tell whether this is intentional or the author just got tired.
It is hard to describe, but the lovable characters could use more depth, more details about what they are thinking and feeling. Also, the rain theme is also ignored and could have been a better strand throughout the book.

Wow, not what I expected, but oh so good
This book was so simple, yet so beautiful, so powerful. My adult parents have every book by this author and thought I would really enjoy this title specifically. I am 41 and would let all my children read this book, ages 7-15. It runs an emotional gammet, but points back to the same theme throughout the entire story, kindness and love don't go unnoticed.

Great read
I won the book through Goodreads giveaways. It was a nice little read. You never know how you affect others and the difference you make in the lives. This book is sure to point that out.

Beautiful story
I loved this book. I've been trying to find a good, Christian book and here it is.
Beautiful without being cheesy. Life-like characters that are easy to relate to and love.

I have to start off by saying I experienced so many emotions while reading this book. Happiness, sadness, fear, heartbreak, joy and love. I didn’t think I could feel so many things when reading a book. Wilkens did a great job of showing you all of these things through the eyes of Ruth. This story was about her life and all that came from it. She was a woman that touched so many people’s lives and always found the good in every situation. It amazed me how real this book felt. I can see why some people wouldn’t understand the end of this book, it actually took me a few minutes to digest it all. But I feel like it was an ending where us as the reader got to interrupt it in our own way. At the end, Ruth is visited by a stranger (this is actually in the summary of the book) and he gives her some photos of very important times in her life, even though she has never seen this man, then he is gone. I saw it has her guardian angel.
Ruth went through so much in life and she didn’t question it, until the end of the book. She wondered why God made her go through all that heartbreak she went through. I feel like that man in the end was there to show her how even though she went through so much, she had a good life. I personally think the Holy Spirit is real and that something like this can take place, but that’s just the way I feel about that.
I do think Wilkens had the book end like this so we can take a moment and think. To slow down and see how amazing our lives have been, even with all the heartbreak we endure.
Wilkens had so many details within this book, which I thought was a good thing, but also a bad thing. Because he put so much into each thing, I always felt engrossed in each chapter. But I also felt that with so many details, some things were just breezed over. And in some instances, I felt like some things were a second thought.
But I believe that is because it was a self published book. I think if there were more eyes on it before it was published, some things could’ve been improved. Some of the grammar and punctuation could’ve been corrected as well.
Overall I loved this book, I thought it was a really nice read. It was different from what I normally go for and so I’m glad I enjoyed it! Again thank you Steven Wilkens for having this book as a GR giveaway.

Reading this book is following the life journey of Ruth, a wonderful person who has so much love and compassion for everyone around her. Through her journey, you feel her pain, love, and joy. It's definitely a great book. Be sure to have a box of tissues ready.
