The first chapters are packed with tons of great information regarding computer hardware and how each component functions, I also enjoyed the chapter that discuss network concepts. However, some chapter seem to drag way too long on concepts that deviate from the technical aspect of the book. It has many unnecessary "exercises" that quite honestly could have omitted altogether.

there are chapters that felt short, and I was hoping the author would provide greater detail like the chapter on Windows administration, and Scripting....there a number of great administration tools on Windows and Linux, which I felt were very briefly mentioned.

If you are completely new to IT concepts, it is a great starter book, although it could have been condensed into 1000 pages or less.

I remember when I was studying for my CompTIA A+ certification, this guide was a lifesaver. It breaks down everything clearly, and the practice questions really helped me nail tricky concepts. One thing I’d recommend is to not rely solely on the book. I found myself needing additional resources for some tough topics. That’s when I used https://essays.edubirdie.com for personalized help on projects, which saved me tons of time. Balancing both made my preparation smoother and more confident for the exam.

A superb guide for the CompTIA A+ cert with a free year's sub to a flash card and practice questions service, plus discount vouchers for the two exams. Clearly written, always on-topic, drier than Mike Meyers' guides (I prefer this), and few errors none of which (to my recollection) are major. The amount of background detail, which isn't all necessarily required to be able to pass, is nicely judged for this level and is typically fascinating.

Be prepared for a lot of rote memorization, especially if you've never studied for the A+ before – there's really no getting around it with things like CPU codenames and numbers of pins and notches on RAM and expansion cards (and much else besides).

Try and get hands-on with as much of the covered tech as you can; there's no substitute for practical experience, though the guide does help greatly.

After reading this and having previously used Mike Meyers's guide to pass the 800 series, I fully expect to sail through the exams and quickly advance to more specialised study guides such as the Network+ and Security+.
