To kill the prince, she must first kill her heart.

Princess Riona was eight when the Revonian king murdered her family and conquered her kingdom with a mysterious magic. She has spent the last decade training—and waiting for her moment to avenge them all and reclaim her rightful title.

Now that the king is ailing, Riona secures a position within the Revonian royal palace. Her goals? Get close to the prince. Kill him. Uncover Revon’s secret magic. Make the king suffer. Only then can she take back her country.

But the closer she gets to the prince, the more he surprises her with kindness, honor, and wit. He is nothing like his cruel father. Worse yet, he sees right through to her heart. When she planned this assassination, her heart didn’t factor in.

And now it’s about to ruin all her plans.

It was alright. In fact, I would have enjoyed it; however, a certain scene/conversation left a bad taste in my mouth that ruined the whole book for me. I knew this was a clean romance so I was surprised when one character recommended another character seducing and producing a child out of wedlock in order to get information. It even talked about how if the character didn’t want a child, they should just take some herbs to get rid of it. This really rubbed me wrong. The character who suggested it turned out to be evil, but the other character didn’t really seem opposed to the idea. Nothing inappropriate happened in the book. It was clean, but that conversation made me so uncomfortable I could barely finish the book.

That aside, there were some good aspects in this book! Riona was fun character. I enjoyed how her character grew and changed throughout the book. The forgiveness concept was a nice touch.
Tristan was nice. His secret magic was a fun twist and I loved how he had such a great relationship with his little cousins.
I hope the next book is about Liam🥰

Anyway, I enjoyed the book, but the scene described above will prob keep me from recommending it to any one else.

Princess Riona was only eight when she was orphaned by the king of Revon, as he murdered her parents and took their land and kingdom with the help of magic. Since then Riona has trained and planned for her revenge: to kill both the king and the prince. But as she gets to know prince Tristan she begins to see that he's not as cruel as his father. Will she be able to go through with her plan?

There's nothing unique with this setup. A cruel father and a kind son has been done many times before, but it's a plot that works. I love the characters (well, most of them!) and the world building. It's not very complicated, which would make it a good book to try if you're new to the fantasy genre. I also like that we get both Riona's and Tristan's POV's, although it's not in first person. The chemistry between them is obvious from the beginning, even though this is a slow burn romance (which I also appreciate). Another good thing is that this is the first book in a planned series, where you can read each book as a stand alone. I hope I will be able to read more books in the Kasmian Chronicles!

Of Stormlarks and Silence is a fantastic debut. A sweet and agonizing tale of enemies to lovers. Riona (an orphaned princess) has sworn revenge on the royal house who killed her parents and so many of her people. She’ll kill the king and his heir. She’s prepared her whole life for it, and finally has the chance to destroy these two evil men.

Until her plans work better than expected and she meets Prince Tristan himself, who turns out to be nothing like she expected.

I loved both points of view of the story, both Riona’s struggle between finding revenge for what was stolen from her, and her growing understanding that her enemy is not who she thought he was, and Tristan’s agonizing attempts to be his own man under the cruel, smothering thumb of his father.

The overarching theme of forgiveness is strong in this story, but dealt with in a very genuine way. Forgiveness isn’t easy, and it doesn’t come quickly.

I also love that there are several other characters I want to explore more, and I know the future books in this series are focused on them (each book is a standalone in the same world.) I’m looking at you, Liam, and waiting to see your story next.

If you like clean romantic fantasy with great characters, fun adventures, layers of intrigue, and questions of who exactly can be trusted, grab a copy and join the growing fan club of the Kasmian world.

Clean YA Fantasy

The hurt doesn’t go away just because you release the anger—or guilt. I suspect true forgiving is a constant choice. Choosing every day to put the anger aside, to choose to love even when love isn’t deserved.”

This was my first book by this author. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit bland. Tropes we have definitely seen before (assassin, enemies, hidden heir etc) nothing really stood out as amazing. The characters were sweet but lacked any kind of emotional depth and it was missing some key things I usually look for in a book- I guess I just needed more! It did however have a great message in the end, amplifying forgiveness love and kindness. In saying all that, it’s definitely a quick, fun and clean read that I would still recommend - if you’re looking for something light.

Of Stormlarks and Silence is an enchanting debut fantasy romance. It is also a tale of forgiveness, something I haven't seen tackled quite like this in any fantasy novel I've read before.

Bitter after the murder of her parents, Ria vows revenge on the king and the mages who caused their deaths and the annihilation of her people. They will experience the pain she has felt, beginning with the murder of the crown prince, Tristan.

Constantly marginalized by his ambitious father, Tristan seeks to do good for his people, to treat peaceably with foreigners, to end the age-old prejudices against magic users. His kindness to the least among his people, servants and children, touches Ria's heart, but can it be real?

When revenge is within Ria's reach, she must decide what true justice looks like. Will she follow the path of peace her uncle advocates, seek the death of her enemies as her aunt insists, or find a third way?
“How are you supposed to be wise and compassionate when your whole life has been consumed by hatred for the man who killed them?”

She flinched at his words. “What else should consume me?”

“Forgiveness? Determination to find a better way than your parents’ murderer did?”
Told with humor and heart, Constance spins a tale that questions how we respond to evil and injustice. We also see much light shining through all the darker themes in this book. Loyal friends. Devoted servants. Caring rulers. People willing to place the needs of others above their own. People willing to be open about their own shortfalls. It's a beautiful story that I highly recommend to children and adults of all ages.

I was given an ARC by the author and have reviewed it willingly.

I received an ARC copy, and I'm leaving a review voluntarily.

"But if we only forgave those who deserved it, we'd all be condemned."

There's a lot of great things about this book, but I think the world building really took this book to another level for me on top of the stellar characters and sweet romance. I loved the unique creatures and the connection to royal lines. I thought it was incredibly creative and awesome! The stormlarks and starmartens were great, and the magic system really unique and fascinating as well. I loved the concept of Mirrors! I really hope we see more of them and dive into more detail about the magic system in the future!

The characters of course were fantastic. Riona is the kind of heroine I love. She's out to get vengeance for her family and get her crown back! I love girls with a plan and a purpose and a little bit of anger to get her through the day. And this makes her a perfect match for the kind-hearted Prince Tristan who just wants to be a better king than his father. I love angry girls and kind guys who help them grow!

Their romance was sweet and wonderful and everything I could ask for! The side characters were great, particularly the elves, and I'm looking forward to the next one! Ultimately, it's a story about forgiveness and growth and doing better, and it's just beautiful. This is a great debut, and it will be a pleasure to see where the series and the author goes next!

A beautiful story with an incredible message. I love everything about this book! The world, the characters, the creatures, the magic and the adventure.

It's a clean YA fantasy without spice but I love it nonetheless. Impeccable writing - I get transported to their world immediately.

I like the fact that it can be read as a standalone but more books will come featuring other characters in the same world. So hopefully we will get to see Riona and Tristan again.

This book grabbed me from the first page and never let go. I enjoyed the descriptions of magic and the delight of learning what a Mirror is - a fascinating version of magic. The character development felt genuine and I empathized with their struggles as their worlds kept changing. This story engaged questions of forgiveness and justice and the struggle to reconcile one's perspective of the world with a reality that doesn't match. These are themes I don't usually see tackled and this novel did it exceptionally well.
My only quibble might be that a relationship seemed to develop pretty quickly - then again, young people can be like that ;p. I did enjoy how the narration switched points of view - even when it left me dying for the one character to know what was happening with the other one.

I loved the world the author created and while this story resolved beautifully, it also left me eager read more stories set in this world and learn even more of the characters' stories. I'll definitely be checking out the next book as it promises more of two characters I enjoyed. I received an ARC of this book and have reviewed it willingly.

Knowing that all the books Constance five stars, I also 5 star (let’s just say I will definitely continue to stalk her Goodreads ‘want to read’ list heh heh🤣, I probably should have been nervous starting this read. My high expectations plus the tons of hype for this debut novel usually equals disappointment, but woohoo! it was awesome! And I loved it!

The witty dialogue was so fun! And I totally did not predict that resolution, which I LOVED!! I was worried about a cliff hanger, but was surprised and sooooo super happy with the ending! Perfect! So many great quotes throughout! I can’t wait to read the next one featuring Sidekick Snark! 😁❤️

Of Stormlarks and Silence was such a great book, and I was hooked from the beginning! I was on a trip of a lifetime, and I seriously considered staying in and reading over sightseeing… Stormlarks was so intriguing, with just the right amount of wholesome, clean romance. Most days I read to fall asleep, but Stormlarks kept me riveted well into the night. It was so good! I can’t wait for Constance’s next book!

I've been meaning to read Constance's books for a while and if I'd known what fun this was going to be I might have jumped in a lot sooner! This is a tightly plotted, well written, absorbing romantic fantasy with just a little bit of darkness, some wonderfully messy plot twists, some delicious but not overwrought enemies-to-lovers tropes and a lovely, noblebright theme. An impressive debut perfect for fans of Tara Grace's ELVEN ALLIANCE series!

A cute and sweet YA fantasy. There are elves but they are on the periphery for this book since neither main character is an elf (though that looks like it will change for book 2). A pretty standard revenge plot (his father killed her parents, she plans to kill him as revenge), but I loved the themes of forgiveness rather than revenge, healing rather than anger. The romance was sweet and clean, so I appreciated that.

Princess Riona is in the final stages of revenge. Soon she will be able to claim back her kingdom. She never meant to care for her mark. Prince Tristan wants to be the king his father never was, but will he ever get the chance.

This book is lovely. A tale of forgiveness with a good helping of adventure, laughter, romance, and mystery to go with it. The world building is beautiful. I love that the kings and queens have a kindred animal. I thought the concept of Mirrors was clever. The character development is well done and I love all the wonderful advice given to the characters.

Thank you to the author for the eARC. All the opinions are my own.

You also can get the prequel by signing up for the authors newsletter. And there’s a short story about Riona’s parents in The Fierce Anthology.

I received this book as an ARC from the author. I am so excited to have read this debut novel!! It was everything I wanted it to be and more. Action, fantasy, and a slow burn romance. We have magical creatures and nobles maneuvering. It is tense and unpredictable-highly recommended!! I cannot wait until the author expands the world she has created as there are so many great characters to be developed.

With so many good things to say, I’m not sure where to start. And the cover - quite lovely! I really like the alternating chapters which focus on the 2 different MCs. I also like the word choices Author Lopez uses for character conversations. A character describes the amount of sleep he’s has, for example, as "I've had a yoke of sleep." Each seems to have a distinct voice. The magic system is nicely laid out (though I’m hoping the next book in the series will go into it in more detail).

The 2 MCs are each important in their own right. Ria, a hidden princess (now queen) of a conquered land and Prince Tristan, the heir of the kingdom that conquered hers. The back and forth of the chapters gives this book a nice sense of balance, a harmony or mirroring will you. The pacing was good and the balance of action and introspection was nicely done. And there was a bit of snark too.

It’s a complete story in a series (may it be a long one) of romantic fantasy books set in the same world. It can appeal to a wide audience as it’s non-explicit.

3.5 ⭐️

Definitely buy it! I really enjoyed this read!

Sex: None (obviously)

Language: two uses of bastard (idk if that counts as language but yeah)

Gore: not really any… obviously there are deaths, but not really much past a basic description of wounds.

Tristan, my goodness! He was so SWEET! I loved his relationship with his cousins too!!! So adorable!

Liam was quite possibly my favorite character! He reminded me so much of Merlin from the British tv show “Merlin” in the way he interacted with Arthur— I mean Tristan. I can’t wait to read his story in the next book!

Riona was fine. The book was definitely an independent woman story for the most part. Im sorry but the chances of a woman being able to save a man twice her size from a raging river whilst he is unconscious is impossible. It just is. I did enjoy the story though. I feel like 9/10 times people prefer the ML anyway though, so it’s understandable that she’s not my favorite.

This book just reinforces my love for YA Romantic Fantasy! Especially loved the fact that this story was a slow-burn clean YA read!! You will quickly be enraptured by the characters including the kindred companions (be prepared for cuteness) and then the main leads Riona and the Prince. There is a character that lends love, support, wisdom and strength to Riona that was really special to read and I look forward to continuing his story. Don’t pass by this one! If clean slow burn, dual POV’s, love and forgiveness are your thing, you will love this story too!

I received an ARC copy from the author and my review is purely my own opinion.

This book was a great read. I am a busy mom with little time to read, so I am choosey, especially when trying new authors. I am so glad I took my free moments to emerse myself in this story. The characters were real and flow was smooth and swept me along so quickly, it was over before I was ready to say good-bye. I hope the release of the next installment comes soon!

As this storm unfolds the author takes you on a whirlwind of events!
Riona, a young woman bent on revenge at any cost!
Riona was the niece of the kings sister. The betrayal of the King and Queen was brought about by the greedy tryant King Padrig.
Follow along in the wild beautiful world of intrigue, betrayal, love and truth.
As the story opens we find our young but headstrong rebel working in the depths of the tyrant and as luck would have it she ends up right where she needs to be !
All is not what it seems or as Riona has been brainwashed into believing.
In the world there is mirror magic, when two people are each others mirror as farcas the magic goes.
Enter into the story the Tyrant King's son Tristan and his mirror and best friend Liam.
Being a mage in the kingdom of Padrig is a life sentence of slavery to the king.
As Riona gets to know the Prince and is thrown into the thick of things, she finds things dont add up to what shes been told all of her life. The one ally she thought was her lifeline isn't.
This is absolutely fantastic read and Constance Lopez writes a tale that soon find its way into heart with its unforgettable characters and magical moments.

I breezed through this book effortlessly. It was so beautifully written, I didn't want to put it down.

Riona's parents, the king and queen of Makaria, were murdered by the cruel king of Revon. For 10 years she has been fuelled with revenge.

Finally, she has a chance to infiltrate her enemy's castle and kill the evil king and his son. But when she meets Tristan, the prince of Revon, she realizes that her hatred may have been wrongly placed. She doesn't know what to do when faced with Tristan's kindness.

There were so many things I loved about this book. I loved the overall message of forgiveness and learning from the past. I also appreciated the stark differences between Tristan and King Padrig, and that Tristan chose a different path from his father's cruelty.

I really enjoyed the subtle humor in this book. Liam was one of my favorite characters. I loved his friendship with Tristan and the bantering between him and Riona. I hope to see more of him in the next book.

The world-building, character development and magic system were fantastically written. It was such a great read. Loved it!

Disclaimer: I received an eARC of OF STORMLARKS AND SILENCE in exchange for an honest review. This has not in any way impacted the contents of my review.

In OF STORMLARKS AND SILENCE, we meet Riona, the queen of Makaria since it’s fall, and her parent’s murder, at the hands of the king of Revon. Riona is posing as a maid in the Revonian castle to help further her and her aunt’s plans to get revenge for her parents death and to also get their country back. However, when Riona meets Tristan, the crown prince, he is not the bloodthirsty man she assumed he would be. We join Riona and Tristan as they journey to discover what kind of people they want to become.

Oh wow, did I love this book! Going into it I was not sure, but it captured me quickly. I am a sucker for princess/queen in disguise tropes, so I loved this! I was also a big fan of the romance in the book. I thought it developed well and was not too rushed.

Riona and Tristan were two very compelling characters. I myself am a big Tristan fan, Liam better get out of my way!! (Though Liam did crack me up multiple times 😂)

If you like slow-burn love, magic, and fantasy worlds, you will love this novel! This is the first of the Kasmian Chronicles, with each novel being a standalone. There’s no better place to start the series than with this book!

This was so great! Wonderful characters and setting. And look at that gorgeous cover!

Stormlarks and Silence is a beautiful story about the power of forgiveness. But it’s also got exciting adventures, cool magic, humor, betrayals, secrets, and romance.

Princess Riona is seeking revenge for her parents' murders and the defeat of her country by Revon and its mage. She is working with Makarian rebels to get justice and free their country from Revonian rule. Having sworn to kill the prince and the king to make them pay for the treachery, she takes a job in the palace under a false identity to get close to them. When she meets Prince Tristan, he doesn’t seem like the evil tyrant she had imagined. It’s possible that he would even be a good king, but how can she possibly give up her chance to avenge her parents?

The harmonic magic and the idea of “mirror” mages in this world was both intriguing and novel. And I also loved the glimpses we got of the stormlarks and starmartens-animals that bond to the royal families- so creative! I hope we see more of them in future stories. I really enjoyed the friendship between Tristan and Liam and Ria was a terrific character. Her conflicts seemed very real and understandable- being in hiding, yet wanting to be seen, torn between revenge and forgiveness. The romance is also believable and both clean and sweet. The villains were villainous and the resolution was clever.

According to the author, this is the first in a series of connected stand alone fantasy romances - my favorite to read. So, this is a complete story, but there will be more in this world! It looks like a romance for Liam next?

I definitely recommend reading the prequel story, Of Seers and Stormguards which is available by signing up for the author’s newsletter. I think it adds a lot to the background of this story.

I loved this book very much!

"Of Stormlarks and Silence" is a title I have been waiting to read since devouring the short stories the author released earlier in the year.

I am very moved by this book. Constance has a beautiful writing style that pulls the reader in immediately. She weaves her tale very cleanly throughout with flourishes here and there of exquisite detail right in the perfect spot.

I love books where choice and personal responsibility are big themes. This book nailed it. Although Riona had been raised to believe vengeance was the answer, she finds herself seeing things in a different light after meeting Tristan. She begins to realize that just because she had always believed something doesn't mean it is the only way. And she can choose!! She does!!!

Beginning with the two short stories and continuing strong through this book, Constance Lopez is building a beautiful world full of unique magic, new creatures that fire my imagination, and characters that I already love.

I spent some time crying and some time laughing. I think these elves are my favorite that I have encountered yet. Especially Issreal, gimme a short curvy elf with brown green hair any day. Omg. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!

I really enjoyed this book! The beginning felt a bit immature in the main character but as the book went on I enjoyed the development! Constance Lopez has been a wonderfully kind and generous supporter of indie fantasy authors over the years, so when I heard about the upcoming publication of her debut YA novel, I was eager to give it an advanced read.

Of Stormlarks and Silence is a sweet and heart-rending tale of war-torn enemies-turned-lovers, and Lopez explored that complex shifting dynamic in a realistic way that shone a light on the many facets of Prince Tristan and Ria/Riona. The romance was slow and clean and done just right, while the court politics and political maneuvering were explored just deeply enough to be intriguing, without crossing into stifling/overbearing. I also really appreciated the overarching theme of forgiveness, and how it was handled in a very authentic way. Especially with respect to Ria, who ultimately let go of her anger and desire for retribution in favor of something far more powerful.

Not everyone deserves forgiveness, “[b]ut if we only forgave those who deserved it, we’d all be condemned.”

Highly recommend for fans of Gail Carson Levine, Marissa Meyer, and Laura E. Waymouth.

Constance created a masterpiece! I’ve read a lot of books over the years but this one immediately captured my attention. The world building was so skillfully executed that I felt like I was a part of the story. I didn’t feel lost or confused while reading this which is a great sign. The character development was off the charts. I love that hope, love and forgiveness were universal threads woven throughout the story. There are so many twists and turns I don’t want to ruin it. You won’t be disappointed picking this book up. It’s such a great read. I’ve already started my second read through 😍. Trust me you’ll definitely have a new book boyfriend by the end of this 😉

I'm finding it incredibly hard to believe this is a first novel. It's incredible! All the characters (even the background ones) are amazing, the world building is exceptional, and the whole story is just beautiful. There's love, revenge, distrust, politics, and plenty of good & bad guys. I'd love to learn more about the magic. My favorite character was Isarrel and my favorite non-character was the starmarten.
This is part of a series but it's a stand-alone and I highly recommend it!
