New York City was filled with excitement and the media had hyped the event as happening once in a hundred years. It happened before and it was happening again. As the power grid failed, the Big Apple exploded as the thin veneer of civilization was laid bare as man fought one another for survival.

This continues a good story of a massive CME. Matthew is an odd one; he has had no interest in his family farm or defense etc, but now is prepared just to shoot people on sight. Not only that but he is uncannily accurate in shooting. I'm also not too sure about the bad-Afghans-that-we-resettled-here story. Just surviving such a major astronomical event is the most interesting part of all this, and it seems to cater to some "immigrants are bad" sentiments. especially hearing how the escaped girl and her mother were treated. Still, I enjoy the story for the most part and am interested to see what happens now that the Cubbisons and friends are together.
The Cubbison family is uniquely situated in a position to provide food and shelter for themselves.
But too many others were coveting the bounty of the Cubbisons' labor and were more than willing to take what they wanted without regard to property or ownership. The basic depravity of mankind rears its ugly head whenever the lack of protection by law enforcement makes it easy to run roughshod over the unprotected and unprepared. The Cubbison family was kind and giving, but wouldn't just roll over to demands and threats. But the family is divided with Cat and Grandpa Sam stuck in New York City on a disastrous trip to the big city. Papa John and one of the twins are also on the way to NYC to find and bring back their missing family. Meanwhile, the other son and Mom take care of the farm and shop back home. Their own trials and tribulations began with an armed incursion by desperate criminal men demanding food and property. Demanding, not requesting!
With trouble in the air and looming overhead, the scattered Cubbisons must gather their missing members and quickly return to their home to defend against a horrid mix of bad-actors. When danger threatens, people react. Some hitch their trousers up and get to work while others plot and scheme how to take what they want from anyone perceived weaker. In times of trouble, the basic depravity of mankind surges to the fore. Much more common than rolling up their sleeves and laboring for their needs, are the less nobly inclined who see weakness and exploit it. With no power, no transportation and no food, people become desperate to survive. The Cubbisons are in for a rough road ahead.
Excellent characters are at the heart of this tale of survival in a powerless world. An excellent storyline with many unexpected twists and turns, told by a proven master storyteller have come together to create a great read!
….Especially by a female character! Book 2 of the Perfect Storm series is even better than the 1st. And that’s saying a lot! New subplots enter the story which make it even more intriguing, compelling, & include interesting new characters. Characters who are just as developed & complex as the original cast. The story’s pace is definitely picking up, it seems, as well. And with it - a wicked satisfying sense of tension. The balance is superb. The character’s personal emotional journeys, the relationships between various parties (including “negative” ones), violence & fight scenes, moral dilemmas, the gritty “picture” of what an apocalyptic world would look like in general, & the day-to-day detailed reality the majority of Americans would face in a CME (or other nationwide) disaster occurrence. Book 2 is extremely light on science, however. Other than very brief faraday type stuff, & the ongoing fact that nothing with electronics is working. Just fyi. But it’s chock full of (almost gleeful) breaking & entering! Lol Another home run for the master wordsmith, author Bobby Akart! Now … on to Book 3. And if the fam will let me, I’ll gladly cut down or paint over that darn highway billboard for them. It’s the 1st thing I thought of when I originally read about it’s existence. I still remain amazed they haven’t burnt it to the ground yet, for their own safety & proactive protection!? Perhaps in Book 3? Along with all the other new surprises & adventure that surely awaits??…..
Book review: "Perfect Storm 2" by Bobby Akart A good read! Yes, I have already pre-ordered the sequel. One criticism: the characters say the Afghani terrorists are speaking Arabic. It is my limited understanding both as a veteran and linguist, that the Afghanis speak Pasto. Here is what Wikipedia.org says: Pashto (/ˈpʌʃtoʊ/,/ˈpæʃtoʊ/; پښتو, Pəx̌tó, [pəʂˈto, pʊxˈto, pəʃˈto, pəçˈto]), is an Eastern Iranian language in the Indo-European language family. It is known in historical Persian literature as Afghani (افغانی, Afghāni). Spoken as a native language mostly by ethnic Pashtuns, it is one of the two official languages of Afghanistan alongside Dari, and it is the second-largest provincial language of Pakistan, spoken mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the northern districts of Balochistan. Likewise, it is the primary language of the Pashtun diaspora around the world. The total number of Pashto-speakers is at least 40 million, although some estimates place it as high as 60 million. Pashto is "one of the primary markers of ethnic identity" amongst Pashtuns.
To be sure, Pasto just like Farsi, has lots of Arabic loan words but Pasto is an Indo-European language in the same broad family as Hindi, Russian, German and English. Based upon my very limited understanding of Urdu and Hindi, I can understand a word here and there of spoken Pasto and Dari.
Spoiler Just too wordy and unbelievable in some parts. 2 country bumpkins go to NYC and find their way around with little trouble, especially when they find a hidden recorder of deeds with no problem, and find deeds they were looking for within minutes. And the ending was a head shaker when the family finds each other on some remote road days are the society shutdown in the middle of a battle with the bad guys. In 1 sentence it is laid out that the Afgan fighters are excellent shooters yet they hit just 1 of 4 beaten down people, and lose a gun fight to a video gamer. Also how society broke down and was in disarray, yet there were Lincoln Tunnel workers working on a leak - huh? And when father/son walking through a suburb town they were worried people were coming out of their homes looking at them because they had guns showing ... I wouldn't do that in a non-apocalyptic world - huh.

Scary - that this could actually happen and that humanity could come apart so quickly. Thank God not all. The Cubbisons and Doyles stick together after being asked to leave the Doyles' condo to make the 150 mile trek to Cubbison farm. Dad and Matthew make the trip to New York to find Cat and Grandpa only to have one thing after the other happen. After 2 days of not getting anywhere they decide to go to the farm. Meanwhile, Mom and Luke are trying to hold down the farm and keep it from being run over by people that don't know how to survive on their own. Then there are the Afghan people that have been relocated after the withdrawal. Lots happening! Great job. Can't wait for PS 3. Please do a little refresher at the beginning. Thank you for explanations at beginning.
Cat, her grandfather Sam and 2 friends Asher and Lauren who rescued them are trying to get out of New York and back to the family farm. Fellow refugees and waste of skin people taking advantage of the turmoil, darkness and lack of policing are not making it easy and they are forced into many terror filled moments. Meanwhile, Cat's father John and her brother Matthew have arrived in New York trying to find them. back at the farm her mother Emma and brother Luke are having problems of their own, throw Afghani terrorists to the mix and you get an edge of your seat read. Looking forward to book 3.
Loved these first 2 books! Believable premise about solar flares without so much science/tech/nerd speak that would've taken away from the poignant personal stories. The characters are written and act as real as you or me, under seriously stressful, unanticipated circumstances. It is clear who the good guys are, who the bad guys are, but some are blurry lines mixed in to keep you wondering. This was actually my 2nd reading of the first two books and I can't wait for #3. Highly recommend, easy to read and captivating to hold your interest...I've just GOTTA see what happens next! If the series doesn't wrap up with the 3rd book, Bobby--hurry up with the next one, please!
The story of the cubbison and Doyle families trying to get out of New York and reunite back to the safety of the family farm after a solar storm takes out power and communication in New York and beyond Really enjoyed bk1, bk2 developed some dodgy storylines. Will read book 3. Feels like akart is on a mission to get people thinking about survival and human nature in the event if large scale natural disasters. Good narration by Kevin pierce.
I have been a Bobby Akart fan from EMP, Economic Collapse, Cyber Warfare to The Boston Brahmin series.
The past couple of books/series Akart changed his characters where they are super relatable. Makes you feel you are a character in the book and you can survive any catastrophe.
Another Bobby Akart winner. Interesting storyline, likable characters and nonstop action. Will this wonderful farm family get it together and protect what’s theirs…will the jihadis take over…what about the people fleeing the city? Hurry up…I can’t wait for the next book!
I was not ready for this book to end! Will Vida get to Luke before the fire does? Will his family rescue him unscathed? Or will someone be badly hurt before it’s all over? What about the two spoiled sisters & their children? Oh my goodness, I didn’t mean to read so fast! Now, I have to wait on pins & needles for the next book in the series!
While a solar event cripples the world, bad actors foreign and domestic jump in to make certain a good crisis doesn't go to waste. From the depravity of neighbors and fellow citizens, to embedded cell members from rogue states, this book has it all. Truly a page turner.
In the second book, the scattered members of the Cubbison family fight a multitude of obstacles in an attempt to return home and meet up with their family. Added to the mix of expected obstacles is a run in with militant Afghan refugees that bodes ill for the future. As with most apocalyptic scenarios, there is no time to catch a breath.
Again we learn to love the characters of the story line. As we become immersed in the lives of each character, we share their fears, joys, and hopes for a joyful future. This drives the reader to continue to join in desiring the next adventure awaiting to be told. I can't wait to run forward to book three. READ ON
I have been a fan of Akart for several years. Volume two of Perfect Storm was a good story, full of excitement and fast moving. Now the wait for volume 3.
Books are great but I'm not impressed with the way they are being released. Won't get sucked into this format again. It's a continuous story and should be released as one instead of months apart.
This is a well told tale that leaves you wanting the conclusion to be found in the last book of the series. Only the beginning of this story includes the origin of the catastrophe that follows.
The sun puts out a strong pulse and all the electrical and technology stops working. Next you have pioneer living in a unprepared world. Strong characters, good writing good story.
I think about the only thing that I find unbelievable, is anyone walking away from their back packs . Its life or death. It's one thing to be running for your life and sheading it.
Continued suspence can this family and friends catch a break. It seems that the closer they get to each other the more calamity the encounter. Get ready for book three.
Like every bit except the wait. The worst part is waiting for the next book to come out.. Then you really get into the next book and when you finish you have to wait again. Thanks.
Book 2 follows Book1 as a continuing story that flows well.
This book follows book 1 AZ the story continues. I have rated it as a 4 because it is sometimes unbelievable. If you are interested in EMP stories this is a good series.
This author is great at character development. You always feel like you are part of the story. This series is another great read. Wife and I have enjoyed all of his books so far!
Family members visiting the city struggle to return; country family members search in the city for their missing kinfolk. All the while, those minding the homestead deal with their own drama. The perfect Storm is causing imperfect dilemmas.

I loved this book by Bobby Akart. I also loved the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of Bobby’s books. I listened to this book on audiobook.
The second book in this series does not disappoint. It is full of plenty of action and excitement. I finished both books in this series in less then a week and I'm about to start the third one even though it's well after midnight.
Made it through. Still draggy but a good story. Plenty of characters, some more believable than others. It is nice a read a story NOT punctuated by bad language or unrealistic sex scenes. I will continue the series but still say it is can be condensed.
So society is collapsing in to disarray and anarchy. As Asher, Lauren,Cat and Grandpa Sam make their way to the farm John and Matt are still searching for them. When you start turning the pages of this book you don't want to stop. well written story
