Duality #3

Rate this book
Prepare for more action, magic, and steam in DISCORD, the third book in the Duality Series. Duality is an 18+ modern fantasy romance why-choose/RH series. Our snarky heroine must come to terms with her elemental powers or be trampled in the constant stream of conflict around her—not only between differing motives and causes, but also within herself. Can she finally take control, or is it that control that ends it all?

—Want to Know More?—

⚠SPOILERS AHEAD⚠

Hunted. Abandoned. Lost.

I’d thought that, after the “disowned superfreak” thing, my life couldn’t get worse. Then I got kidnapped, and had to do a boatload of seriously sketchy stuff to keep my head above water—and still nearly drowned.

But actions have consequences.

Bewitched by my old friend anger, I’ve gotten us all bitten in the backside and the wolves are chasing us. I’m not sure if we’re running toward help or away from danger. Both, I suppose.

All I care about right now is keeping everyone alive, and happy, and whole. With the Acceptance bearing down and the last few months coming to a head, I just hope I can keep us all from running out of time for real.

NOTE: Discord is the third book in a four-book series and should only be read after Duality and Duplicity. Although this book is a catharsis, it does end on a cliffhanger. Anticipated release for the fourth and final book is Jex's birthday in July 2023.

TW: This book contains open-door romance and on-page violence, including death. Not all of the love interests are men. Detailed trope tags can be found on the author’s website.

No star rating because I DNF this one.

I really liked the first 2 books of this series but I struggled with this one. Jex became so unlikable that I just had to stop. I don’t recall her being such a brat/borderline a bitch in the last 2 books.

The FF with Nicky also felt extremely forced and almost like a CNC situation at the start of it. Not sure if that changes later in the book since I stopped at roughly 40%.

I also constantly got lost in conversations because the author didn’t always specify who said what. There was a lot of back and forth and I’d have to reference who started speaking first so I could figure out down the line who was saying which lines. It became frustrating.

Sadly I won’t continue this series, however I do think this was an instance of “it’s not you, it’s me”.

Phew, that was a lot of nooky!

Aside from the gratuitous group play, the actual overarching plot does not miss. We've come a long way from the beginning, learning a little more after each twist in the story.

This one was a little long, but I look forward to the conclusion in book 4!

Sooooo I think I'm going to stop reading here. It is kind of hard to whether or not I enjoyed this book or not. My only favorite character is Derek and a little bit Eli.....like Jex was just annoyingggggg. The establishment of the "harem" felt so forced and was not properly established AT ALL. It was kind of just Jex saying this is how it is, get f***ed or get gone, which was just so uncomfortable to read, NOT RESPECTFUL of anyone else's feelings, and not how I would typically enjoy a reverse harem or why choose. I'm sorry her using the excuse "we are not exclusive I can do what I want," but her getting mad if they kiss someone else??? don't piss me off.

Like I'm not trying to compare books but here is example from my favorite series ever....All the pretty monsters, the MMCs basically hatedddddd ( no they didn’t) each other but there was still an acceptance between everyone on the harem.

Maybe forcing people to be apart of a poly relationship is not for me but I just think THIS one was done in poor taste.

Jex's attitude pissed me off to no end, and in the last book, she lacked so much responsibility. She was mad at Derek when SHE accepted the bond. I don't want to hear any "he coerced her" going off the logic in the author's magic system, even if he manipulated her SHE would still have to CHOOSE to bond he can't trick her into feeling something she doesn't already feel in her heart. It was as if she was mad at him for making her feel that way. Now don't get me wrong I was mad at Derek for a hot minute, but from his POV we know he didn't mean it that way. (Derek Defender 4L).

Anywayyyyy ( sorry I had to rant) back to Jex's attitude, it just makes me not even want to finish this book seriously. Like I feel bad for everyone that's saddled with her.

With ALL that being said this is not meant as a hate post to the author but it is for Jex, and I ALWAYS say if an author can make you hate a character and their decisions then they have done WONDERFUL character building bc powers or not if I were to see Jex on the streetttttt.

Anywayyyy bye now...sorry for the rant.

More like 3.5 stars if I’m honest. My issue was Jex herself, I stopped liking her. She went from being strong to being an unpredictable, impulsive bitch who ran into stupid situations just because she felt like it, and treated everyone badly. Nicky’s influence didn’t help, I really didn’t like Nicky either and Pinch’s psychoanalysis was just an enabler - you carry on Jex, you feel undeserving but you really aren’t. Actually in my opinion her behaviour in this book really is undeserving!
Jex’s behaviour towards Derek was borderline unforgivable, her outburst at BeBe was uncalled for and her handling of all the relationships within the “harem” lacks any kind of consideration, empathy or sympathy. If Jex wants, Jex takes and hang the consequences!

This book also felt long, possibly because of my issues with Jex, and at times unnecessarily dramatic.

I will still read the last book, but I’m not jumping up and down in anticipation, which is sad because I gave the first book 5 stars.

This is book 3 of the series and the previous books should be read for full enjoyment of this story. Hold on to your hats, folks, you're in for the ride of a lifetime!

The story begins immediately following the end of book 2. Jex and company are laying low in Florida while they plan their next steps. Meanwhile, they start training for the Trials. They also have the added deadline of the Acceptance. To make things wors, they find new information about the Acceptance that could change their lives, literally.

As they embark upon their journey, they must figure out how to work together as a cohesive unit. Tensions are high amongst the group related to the Pairings. Without ruining the story, wow, this is so good and well-written. I stayed up way too late reading... Brilliant book, but the cliffhanger!

Light spoilers

This one was tough to get through. It took a while to actually finish and care. It just seemed like nothing had happened, and too much happened at the same time. Then that end scene rolling up to the farm was so anticlimactic for the Abram to show up and end it "peacefully". Really all seeing and knowing Quad, shows up after death, fighting, and change bit to stop everyone with a thought and only let go if they agree to leave peacefully...yeah okay...Then I will never understand the idea behind a power being given because hey if it was given it was for a reason but nope someone thinks you aren't strong enough so we are going to rip it from you idea instead of understanding why it was given in the first place. It's going to take me a while to pick up the last one because I don't know if I care enough at this point about the end or not.

I don't onownhow to begin to express how much I love this series, and with this book, it just keeps getting better. The balance between absolutely fire spice and high stakes fantasy plot is so well done. There are moments when physical connections are deeply rooted and necessary and there are moments when passion and desire take over common sense, and both situations are valid and total fire on the page. Becca's pacing is one of my favorite things about her writing. It feels fast enough to keep me completely engaged but never rushed or crammed. The characters themselves are diverse and dramatically different in personality and attitude. You wo t find a single character trope that's not uniquely tweaked to create very genuine feeling people. 5 stars, as I expected!

Discord picks up right after the events of Duplicity, with Jex on the run after losing her temper. As her Acceptance grows closer, she's struggling to find a way to save herself and those she loves.

Becca Fogg has done it again with this latest installment in the series! The story is picking up as we get closer to the end, and the characters are really beginning to evolve. Jex has had her struggles since the start, but has really grown into her own as the series progressed. I have fallen in love with her men, especially Pinch and Ryan and just love how they treat her. The steam was definitely there and the author didn't skimp on it!

I received an ARC for Discord by Becca Fogg.

Discord is the third book in the Duality series (a why choose fantasy romance series) and picks up exactly where Duplicity ended. Jex has to work hard to try and survive her Acceptance which is only creeping closer by the day while on the run after her temper got the best of her and trying to figure out how to save the people she cares about to boot.

This is another awesome book by Becca Fogg I read it all in one go because I couldn't put it down. I love this series because every book is full of witty banter, hidden clues for the next book and so many plot twists. Loved the romance developments in this book and how the group is learning to work as a group.

Pinch finally has his time to shine while helping Jex train on the patio 🤌🌶, watching Derek and Eli work through their shit while Ryan attempts to mediate is always a house favorite in my opinion. Our girl Nicky knows what's up even if she has her own things to work out too.

I give this book 5 stars 🌟 and 4 🌶. I can't wait to read the 4th and final book next year to see how everything plays out for Jex and her crew.

TW: This book contains open-door romance and on-page violence, including death and attempted kidnapping. Not all of the love interests are men. Detailed trope tags can be found on the author’s website.

Reading this series is like living through the events in it

Such an incredible action packed series, heart stopping drama and intrigue. With quite a hefty dose of spicy bedroom shenanigans all round.

Sure I may have read more about handling curly hair than I ever needed to know but that’s a small price to pay. Said by someone with boring straight hair, but that’s just a fact of life we all want to try something different whether that’s hair, superpowers or anything else. Jumping straight into book 4 for the conclusion.

There aren’t enough words to express how I felt at the end of this book. It’s right back into the action. Becca’s writing has a way to just suck you into this world and leaves you wanting more. The fact that I finished it in 4 days speaks volumes as I typically don’t go through a story that fast, but I just had to keep going. Becca has quickly become a favorite author and I will be waiting on bated breath for the final installment!

Action packed, full of lust and love. I didn’t know a series could keep up the pace. With each book we get spicer and spicer and yet the plot still holds strong in the for front.
I love Jex. Her complexity, her snarky attitude and just that huge heart. Then add the mixture of so many other characters that make this novel a page turned. Gripping the heart and the groin making you wish you could jump right into the fun. I wish it was July 2023 already.

Alright Becca you did it again. This book was addictive and sooooo worth the read. This entire series is worth it. It has it all battles, smexy times, and lovable characters that keep getting better and better. Okay but the cliffhanger though. I'm in pain just thinking about how bad I want to read book4!

Spicy!!!!

This book didn't have the same level of plot development and action that the first three books had, which is why I'm only 4starring it. But it did have insanely satisfying spicy scenes and a lot of development in the relationships and feelings between the characters which I loved. Eagerly awaiting the fourth book and to see what our Jex does!!!

what makes this book/series so awesome is that you don't need the spicy, even though its needed .... but like you know? I'm so very happy for the spicy, too though😅 when friends family asked me what I've been up to I instantly start rambling about this series, the adrenaline really gets going let me tell you🙌🏻

Not sure how I felt with this latest installment in the series. I loved the first two books and this book prints the two pairs into a quad and throws in some non-quad members. The spice level is high. There is a lot of discussion between characters. The story is solid.

Omg this book! It starts right where book two ends and takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. And the ending cliffhanger is a doozie. If I get into this too much I’ll spoil the book so all I have to say is give me more Pinch.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Book 3 in the duality series is nothing short of amazing! Jex, Eli, Dereck, Ryan, Pinch, and Nicky are in for ride in this one. More twists and turns. Answers and more questions! More troubles lay ahead for these guys in the last book and I can't wait for it to unfold. I loved the building of the characters. The spice. The emotion. Did I mention spice?! Ends with us trying to figure out what's going to happen next! So yes a bit of a cliff hanger! But so good!

This book was an amazing read, I could not wait to get my hands on it and devoured it as quickly as I could. I love the dynamics between Jex, Nicky, Eli, and Derek but I am also a huge fan of Pitch and want to know even more about him. I feel so bad for Ryan in this book as you feel so strongly for his struggles. I can not wait to get my hands on book 4 to continue to see where these fantastic characters go and how much they continue to grow and thrive when everything seems to be trying to knock them down.
