A Patchwork Nation

Rate this book
What would the world look like if Hitler had possessed the Nuclear Bomb? Had the United States and Germany been equipped to end the war in a nuclear holocaust?
Europe, 2050. World War Two ended in 1946 amidst a shower of bombs that destroyed all but a few major cities, collapsed the old civilizations, and reduced humanity to the brink of existence. Over time and through a series of revolutions, Europe is only just recovering a shadow of its former self. Russia is again ruled by Tsarist Dynasties, Greece is again a Kingdom, Italy is ruled by the Vatican, and North-western Europe has formed the United Western European States. These nations exist in a constant state of distrust for one another. Alliances are shaky. Europe constantly teeters on the precipice of yet another conflict between superpowers.
Word has reached the governors of the UWES that Russia has recovered an undetonated nuclear bomb, technology that is lost everywhere else in the world. They carry it onboard their new superweapon, the Potemkin, a gigantic airship. Afraid of what the Tsar may do with his weapons, the UWES dispatches a mercenary, Dario Vilhena, to steal one vital piece of the bomb before it can be completed. But another group also hijack the Potemkin. Suspicion immediately falls upon the UWES for both disappearances and, fearing that their enemy may have a functioning bomb and the means to deliver it, the Tsar orders the invasion of Western Europe.
But the shady organization truly responsible for the hijacking quickly intervene, and Europe falls under their control. But they haven’t got the complete bomb. The last piece has fallen into the hands of a lone orphan girl. Aurelia Kertesz seems strangely connected to the Shadow League. She is able to evade them long enough to meet up with Dario Vilhena and General Sophia Vallires, leading a resistance force, and the three of them help wage revolution against the new and terrible regime.
But nothing can prepare them for the sheer demonic fury that has been unleashed.
