Edwards has a reputation for meticulously researching the proper anthropological backgrounds of each tribe she writes about.
Edwards and her husband Charles, a retired high school biology teacher, have been married for over 50 years. They have two sons, Charles and Brian, and three grandchildren. The family lived in St. Louis, Missouri for over thirty years, but now reside in Mattoon, Illinois.
Second time reading this book and looking at it now I don't know why I scored it 4 stars, should have been 3 so changed it. After reading several other authors and their books Cassie Edward's books are a bit lame. When she loses everything after the Civil War she accepts the invitation of a family friend to live in a logging camp. He is the abandoned half breed son of the logging boss and he is also a Cherokee chief. He tries to convince his father to leave but his full blood brother, whose features appear more white man, gets in the way. She eventually falls for the half breed.
Read it in two days. I was scared it was going to be racist but It wasn't. Obviously some of the Cherokee characters experience racism but there was no hatred or down-putting in the book. There was no fetishization either.
I love the adventure and Intrigue of Cassie Edwards, but I hate the instant love and sex. I read these when I need a break from the paranormal/fantasy/ shifter/ witch stories. So I ignore the love and sex and enjoy the adventure and Intrigue.
