Eli Christopher is the stepchild that his stepfamily never wanted, and they do nothing to hide that fact. After years of abuse, Eli is beginning to believe them. Maybe he’s not worth much after all. But everything changes when the King of Texas tracks him down, determined to make him realize his own worth.
Aiden Bacon is the media-proclaimed King of Texas, a title given to him after his father’s passing and his not-so-modest inheritance of a billion-dollar company. Aiden’s only goal in life is keep his company afloat and keep his own demons at bay. But his whole world turns upside down when a tiny, shy delivery boy brings a pizza to his home and then disappears, leaving Aiden infatuated and desperate to track him down.
Texas King is a loose m/m retelling of the Cinderella fairytale and contains bullying triggers and familial abuse.
Reading this was like watching a train wreck in slow motion: a nightmare is playing out right in front, yet you feel compelled to watch.
Texas King is terrible on so many levels, but I stuck with it through the bitter end.
First of all, the editing is nearly nonexistent. There are multiple spelling errors (my favorite: masterbation vs. masturbation), typos, and grammatical issues.
I'm honestly aghast that this book was published. Automated programs (like the built-in features in Word or Grammarly) would have caught many of the mistakes.
Second of all, well ... EVERYTHING: shallow characters, insta love, unearned HEA, ridiculous storyline.
Let me point out just a few things that had me rolling my eyes:
Eli's friends are all poor, and we are told that they work multiple jobs to make ends meet, yet any time Eli calls, they are available at the drop of a hat. They seem to have all the time in the world, and for all their pride, accept free shit from Aiden all the time.
Aiden is all-powerful, but the best way he can think of to get rid of Eli's evil stepbrothers and stepfather is to bribe them. He even lets them get away with vandalism. They're not punished at all for the torment they put Eli through. This was so unsatisfying!
Aiden sees Eli from his balcony as Eli is delivering a pizza to his mansion and falls in love. He then stalks Eli, showing up at the pizzeria and getting in his car when he's delivering pizzas. It's creepy and not at all romantic, yet within a few days the MCs are declaring their eternal love for one another.
The author introduced the Daddy/boy dynamic, which mostly consisted of Eli calling Aiden "Daddy," and Aiden calling Eli "baby." Eli plays with toys and wears a diaper to bed (because he has nightmares that cause bedwetting); it's unclear whether Eli is ever "cured" of this or not because the diapers are mentioned only a couple times.
There is nothing nuanced or interesting about this dynamic. It's like the author did a twenty minute Google search and decided to include it because what the hell, right?
So why the extra half star? The sex was kind of hot, at the beginning at least. I started skimming after a while because I wasn't invested in the characters or storyline, and could only read about Eli wearing a sexy dress so many time before wanting to scream.
4.5 stars. Owww I love me some good hurt comfort story. It has a lot of drama, even a bit theatrical which is delicious, sometimes you just need a read like this. It’s a lovely concept, a ridiculously rich guy falls for a shy delivery guy who’s broke. Oh, guys, it's just awesome, a feel-good story. Like the blurb says an m/m Cinderella fairytale. I’m so in for it. I’m gonna just step into the limousine (this story), take a glass of champagne (a seat), and enjoy the ride.
Eli lives with his awful stepbrothers and stepfather after he lost his mom. She left him her pizza place, only his stepfather forced him to sign papers, he was too young to be aware of what he signed for. They abuse him, torture him, emotionally and physically. Eli is the sweetest, he’s shy, with low self-esteem, after hearing thousands of times how worthless he is, he finally believes it.
Aiden is the owner of a billion-dollar company, one night he sees just a glimpse of the delivery boy and wants to talk to him, but he’s gone already. Chasing him he finds him. It takes him just a second to understand how awful the circumstances are, the guy lives by. He wants to protect him and cherish him. He’s just head over heels.
What follows is right from a fairytale, the super sexy male version, where financially the sky is the limit and it is everything you could wish for. It’s an epic romantic story, captivatingly written, with nicely layered characters, a lot of drama, a lot of hurt comfort, feelings all around (yes tears are rolling down my cheeks), a mountain of sexy scenes, with an awesome development in dynamic, there are some dedicated friends slash family and the best happy ending!
I usually don’t rate DNFs but this was rough, y’all. I like instalove. I like daddy kink. HOWEVER. This had issues with the MCs not actually having any discussion and consent to this dynamic - they just sort of fell into a deeper end age play kink dynamic and I never saw a safe word brought up. Punishments were dealt without discussing beforehand what punishments would look like or the purpose of them. Listen, I get books aren’t meant to be manuals and I don’t expect them to be, but don’t present something as a not-dark romance with a kink dynamic and then not speak to these issues, imo.
ETA: Also, just become someone age regresses, I don’t think that means a psychiatrist would tell him to go to a child psychologist instead. That makes no sense?
Editing issues as well, including a {girl’s name} note left behind. Needed another set of eyes and not to be soooo long.
I've been trying to clean up all the books on my Kindle and found this fluffy, gay Cinderella retelling. It was slow and boring at times, but cute. I kinda liked it.
A few things bothered me, tho.. In every Dd/lb book I've read, boundaries, punishments, etc, are discussed BEFORE. Here, they just fell into their roles without talking about any of it, which is fine; Eli was into it.... But his first punishment made me feel icky. No safe word? Dude's been abused his whole life by his stepbrothers. I don't see how Eli wouldn't have freaked out the way Aiden (his safe place) just started spanking his ass like that without talking things out. I didn't like that.
Where was the revenge on his stepbrother/dad? Dude was blowing smoke up my ass talkin' about killing them.. They get away with everything AND get a fat check... How's that fair? call the cops..shit in their cereal..idk…something? Jesus.
I'm bummed I can't find any updates from the author on this series. I'd love to read about their friends.
Texas King is the first book in the Texas Fairytales serie by A.R. King. This book is about Aiden and Eli and is a modern MM Cinderella retelling. Aiden is the king of Texas, well that's how the media calls him. He is the head of a billion dollar company. Eli lives with his stepfather and stepbrothers. They make him work for almost nothing and abuse him.
I really liked their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written.
H.Q. Kingsley has given us an original new twist on a very old fairytale, Cinderella. Eli, who is secretly an androgynous little, has been abused for years by his very wicked-hateful-nasty-troglodyte stepbrothers and his money laundering, scheming-slimeball-evil stepfather. Get the picture? Eli's mother died and his step-family took over her Pizza store. They basically threw Eli to the curb both metaphorically and literally as they assaulted him daily.
But one day, with a pizza in hand, delivered to the wrong address, Eli was seen by Aiden, a gazillionaire, who instantly fell in love. The story continues from there with Aiden courting Eli, helping him come out of the closet while filling up said closet with over-the-top clothes and...well, you should read the rest. It is a story of what a family is and is not. It is filled with unconditional love and acceptance and there is a strong message that we should be who we were meant to be. Or, as Dr. Frank-N-Furter says in the movie musical, Rocky Horror Picture Show, "Don't dream it, be it."
The world of age play, in the form of big/little (just Google it) is a safe and consensual form of role play which meets the needs of certain consenting adults. Our society has taught us to see such things, along with any form of BDSM, as being harmful and perverted, etc. etc. But to anyone who wants to get all judgey about something that really isn't even their business, I say...GRRRRR. Followed by the phrase... "glass houses."
The book is a nine hour read and goes into great detail of the love that develops between our two protagonists. If for no other reason than to learn about a different lifestyle/way-of-life, it is certainly worth a read.

Too much back and forth, yet almost zero communication between Eli and Aiden.
Poor resolution with Eli's family.
Way too many sex scenes that lasted for way too long.
Aiden and Eli went from a kinda/sorta/not really somewhat traditional relationship to a Daddy/little relationship without much warning. Even so, Eli never said or even thought he was a little. Aiden told him. Whatever Aiden said was fact, apparently.
Eli was nineteen but came across as twelve or younger throughout the entire book, and I'm not referring to when he was being a little. He was very immature and childlike. Being sheltered is one thing. Acting like he did was something altogether different.
This could've been cut by 150 pages or more and maybe been okay. I almost DNF'd it so many times as I was reading it. I probably should have, but I was invested and kept going. I'm curious about the others who may or may not have their own stories, but I doubt very seriously I'd be able to sit through another book with so many pages that say so little.
Full (super long) review WITH SPOILERS can be found at -
Eli has always been the target of his stepfamily and they have taken everything from him, but one pizza delivery changes all that. One quick glance at Eli is all it takes for Aiden to be interested. There are sparks between the two right from the start and Aiden is determined to show Eli what a fire they could have. I really enjoyed Eli and Aiden’s story. Both men have issues and must work through them as they try to figure out their own relationship. Neither man is perfect, but they are perfect together. Aiden is a good man who understands and loves everything about Eli. It was nice to watch Eli grow and find himself with the support of Aiden. Their sparks soon turn into something deeper but the two must find a way to deal with the ups and downs of their relationship. Nothing is perfect and the two find that out the hard way. The author weaves a wonderful story with well-developed characters that had me lost in their story right from the start.
Loved this book. It was hard reading about the step brothers's abusive behavior to the main character but I loved the story and all the characters. I have my fingers crossed that the friends of both main characters get their own happy endings.
Big Wow... Yep this book definitely rocks, It has it all. From charm, drama to the wonderful range of emotions each character brings to the book. Eli, was an unfortunate young man who ended up shakled with an ungrateful step-family who's only purpose in life was to belittle and torment him. Then of course there's Aiden and oh boy what and interesting and exciting character he has a certain charm about him.

Steamy MM remake on a Cinderella story! Daddy/boy kink with a bit of age play. I don’t usually enjoy books with age play but this one was not overdone and tasteful! Well written with a great HEA. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ok, so the first 30% of this book was a 4-star read for me.
Yes, it was insta-love (like, severely so) and it was packed with clichés, but it just hit the right spots for me.
I didn’t mind the dame in distress trope here. The book sucked me in right away, actually. I loved how Aiden had no issues letting Eli be himself (he prefers to wear dresses sometimes) and completely encouraged him to be open.
Aiden was also very patient with Eli. He knew how inexperienced Eli was and really did not push him at all.
You could tell he just wanted to give Eli whatever he wanted.
I was really enjoying it……..until Aiden dropped the “D” word.
Look, I was NOT warned that this was heading in the direction of a Daddy/Boy dynamic.
Yes, Eli is younger and Aiden is naturally more dominant, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they have to be in that type of relationship.
Suddenly, the story became a completely different one.
One I was very disappointed in.
Whereas before the story was about Aiden wooing Eli and getting him to feel more comfortable in his skin, now the story was pretty much only about their Dd/lb relationship.
All of a sudden the author had Eli playing with kids toys, going to a “play house” where he could play with other littles, and wearing diapers.
Talk about whiplash.
Again…WHERE WAS THE WARNING?!
If Eli expressed he was looking for a Daddy or if Aiden mentioned that was his preference in the beginning, I would have known the direction it was going in.
But NOPE. In fact, Aiden has never been a “Daddy” before but “researched a lot”. Mhmm, okay.
There wasn’t even mention of a safe word. Good job researching, bud.
Here’s the thing. They never actually discuss the parameters of their relationship. I’m a big proponent of consent and established boundaries.
Nothing was discussed. Aiden kept adding on rules, and then doled out punishments like spanking and making Eli wear a cock cage.
Which in itself is uncomfortable considering how Aiden knows Eli’s stepbrothers push him around and abuse him. You would think something like spanking would at least be discussed beforehand since it inflicts physical pain.
This is a loooooooong book as well.
Admittedly, I stopped at around 61% because I couldn’t do it any longer.
The characters became unrecognizable and the story became icky and uncomfortable. I’m not knocking the dynamic, just the way it was portrayed.
While this book wasn’t bad, I think it just tried to be to much.
I feel like everything in this just missed the mark.
I love daddy/little books, but it just felt weird here. It was never really discussed between the two. More of a “Daddy will take care of it” and that’s it. Then the next day toys show up. Eli never said he was a little and never truly went into that headspace, he just played with his trains/toys and enjoyed when Aiden took him to an indoor adult play place.
Eli also has nightmares, which result in him wetting the bed. I did love how Aiden took care of Eli after these episodes, but could not believe that after talking with some other “Daddies” at the adult play place just whipped out a diaper for Eli to wear to be, just after sexy times. That should have been brought up and discussed.
The other big issue I have is the spanking Aiden gave Eli. Again if punishments should have been talked about, I feel like it would have been okay. The punishable offense had taken place earlier in the day and after they got home it seems like Aiden just had to punish Eli. Eli had gotten excited, got out of the car and almost gotten hit by a car. Aiden yelled at and grabbed Eli and told him to always wait for him to open the door for Eli from now on. Good, moving on… but no Aiden decided to punish him with a spanking. A spanking that Eli knew nothing about. Then afterwards, Aiden gets up and they go outside. No talking, nothing, just move on to something else. This just really bothered me. There was not comfort, not talking things over.
Again. Overall I liked the story. I just feel like there was to much trying to be put into one book.

What a wonderful Cinderella twist!!!! It’s steamy and so endearing! I absolutely love the MCs and the sweet friends! When you think of the Disney’s Cinderella, the friends would be the mouses!!! The villains in this story would be the wicked stepfather and the stepbrothers. They’re the villains you’d love to do something to get rid of!!! The story centers on Eli, a young 19 years old guy who does the dirty work/delivering pizzas for the pizza restaurant that was owned by his mother who had passed away few years prior to the story. The ownership should have gone to Eli but instead, the villains managed to get their hands on it. They would mercilessly treat Eli horrible. Back to the story…Eli was delivering some pizza at a very upscale neighborhood. The address on the pizza box had somewhat blurred and Eli tried to figure out the correct address. However, there was this very nice mansion that Eli delivered the pizzas. When Eli delivered the pizza, the master of the house spied him from his balcony and fell in love with him and tried to reach him but Eli had departed. The master was Aiden Bacon, the media proclaimed king of Texas so hence the title of the story. Aiden managed to get the name of the pizza parlor and sought Eli out. I am sure you can figure out the outcome but this story is one wonderful twist of fairy-tale adventure worth reading! I would give it 6 stars out of 5 if I could! I look forward to reading more of the sequels if the author is planning on that!
I love this retailing of Cinderella and it is a little different with similarities in the overworked, under paid in this case, and mistreated by every member of the family. Eli’s mother started her own pizzeria the best in town, married his stepfather who brought along two stepbrothers and once she died, they took his pizzeria from him makes him run deliveries in a broke down car, drowned him on several occasions, waste supplies, monies the list goes and on of all the damages/abuse inflicted upon him. One pizza delivery changed his life literally in every way. Aiden sexy as all get out Texas King billionaire has never really loved or been in love until the moment, he watched a pizza delivery guy make a delivery to his home that moment his world shifted, and he developed tunnel vision with one goal find that pizza delivery guy. Now this is where it gets good from the moment Aiden finds him, he shows Eli just how beautiful he is, has proven time and time again that he will be there for him for any/everything something Eli has never known since the death of his mother. The attraction after that first date is so insanely intense and the more time they spend together the stronger the pull between them becomes Aiden promises to take care of him and he does by finding out what his parent, stepbrothers have done to him and he is going to get to the bottom Ma’s Pizzeria boy when he does controlling his anger is going to be the issue but will Eli see it that way, where are they headed as a couple and will Eli get his HEA? . So this says it's daddy/little Cinderella type fairytale but honestly it's not a real safe or consensual daddy/little relationship. Aiden the daddy just decided Eli was a little and then started putting him into that role without and discussion or conversation about limits or safe words or anything. Eli doesn't even realize he is being treated like a little and although he seems to not mind how he's being treated there's no one or honest discussion. All of a sudden Aiden is telling him he has to call him daddy and setting rules and Eli just goes with it since after all he's never been in a relationship before. Now since Eli doesn't complain about this I could have let that go and just kept reading, however the punishment for breaking a "rule" that wasn't ever established and it being "impact play" with a spanking is crossing a line. Eli has not safe words and didn't even know it was a rule and is now being spanked and the author sees no problem with this, but what really didn't ring true was how excited and turned on he was, when just that morning and the night before he was woke up screaming and crying in a nightmare about all the abuse he suffered under he stepdad and stepbrothers, but now he's being hit and loves it...this is not a good BDSM repetitive and shouldn't be advertised as a daddy/little.
Texas King starts this series of Texas Fairytales and it is a great beginning. Eli is so sweet, inexperienced, likes to wear dresses and lacy things, is powerless to stand against his step dad and step brothers. Aiden sees Eli as Eli delivers a pizza to his house and is instantly intrigued. He makes it his business to find Eli and go deliver pizzas with him and slowly gets to know Eli. Eli isn't sure why some handsome, rich guy would be interested in him, but he wants to desperately have all of Aiden's attention. Soon both men enjoy a Daddy/boy relationship, but it is so much more. Aiden buys Eli everything he wants to wear and doesn't blink at the dresses, shoes or lace that Eli wears. Aiden finds it very arousing. The friends of both men are throughout the book and it is nice to see that Eli's step family get dealt with. The end is very beautiful and leads us readers into thinking that two of their friends will be featured in the next book of the series.

I was actually surprised at the turn this book took. First of all, it is very loosely based on Cinderella. So loose that if they hadn't said it was based on it, I probably wouldn't have made the connection. Then there was the Daddy/little dynamic that came out of nowhere. Neither of the two MCs gave any indication that they were into it, and it just seemed to happen out of nowhere. I don't really enjoy this type of book and if I had known it was going there, I probably would have skipped the book. As it was, I skimmed much of that dynamic since it didn't interest me.
I kept reading because I wanted to see how the conflict between Eli and his family was resolved. Honestly, that portion of the story was disappointing. Once Eli and Aiden got together there was very little interaction between Eli and his family and then
So overall, the story was very disappointing. I may try the next book in the series but if it goes the route of this one, I probably won't finish it.
Eli's mother dies and leaves him the hands of his evil stepfather and stepbrothers and they treat him abysmally. He was supposed to inherit her pizza business but instead is treated like badly and made to do all of the work while also being cruelly tortured by these men. The best thing that ever happens to him is delivering a pizza to Aiden's house. There Aiden spies him and becomes fascinated by him and wants to find and get to know him. It is the beginning of him finding someone who cares about him that can take care of him and provide for him a better life. Eli finds his prince charming in Aiden. Aiden is happy to be that for Eli because he finds a love he did not think that he would ever find. This was such a neat retelling of the Cinderella story with some difficult aspects in the cruel treatment he receives at the hands of his stepfamily along with the wonderful friends who are there for him, Aiden and the love he brings to Eli and Aiden's friends who are helpful and protective of Aiden and Eli. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Eli is having another terrible day. Like most of them thanks to his step brothers. The Pizza place his mother built by herself fell into their hands when she died. Poor Eli is made to do all the work of delivers and cleaning at the store. While being there tortured by them. He is sent out for a delivery but the paper the address is in is wet so he can’t read it and guess in the address. He ends up at a mansion and honking it’s a practical joke. No way this is where he should be. But his day dies get better. The only Erwin who answers the door takes the pizza and gives him a big tip. As he goes to his car he sees someone looking down at him. Little does he know that person seeing him will change both their lives. Aiden. Known as the Texas King from the company he got from his dad when he passed has never been in love. But he knows he must find the pizza boy and meet. This starts their journey. I received the book free and am leaving this honest review
I received an unproofed arc through Booksprout and I am leaving my honest review.
This was a different take on a Cinderella/ Cinderfella story. The author recreates a 2022 version which I enjoyed reading, yes some things are not talked through but it is a fairytale anno now and I love that Eli can just be who he is deep down. As does Aiden, who is named the 'King of Texas' by the media. And I think I just read one of the lengthier proposals at least the buildup to it on the day. I noticed the author leaves options s open for future books so I am keeping an eye out for those future Fairytales.
Prince Charming makes dreams come true! Eli, has spent so many years abused by his stepfamily, he's beginning to accept their attitudes as his truth. Aiden, fiancially secure, still carries a heavy emotional burden. Eli, is his family's pizza delivery boy. During one delivery, he meets Aiden and it looks like life starts on a new path for both of them. Can they open their hearts and minds to each other? Can they be what the other needs most? Excellent story. Nice take on the Cinderfella, fairy tale. The Prince and Cinder, play true to form with a nice endearing tale. Great characters, fun thread. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Texas King is a modern day, m/m retelling of Cinderella. Eli is the stepchild who is treated shabbily by his family. Aiden is the King of Texas. He inherited that title after his father died. Loved Eli and Aiden!! They were sweet and steamy! Overall, a great story! It’s really well written, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Sepertiga awal buku memang menarik buat dibaca.
The basic premise of the story was okay but unfortunately the characters just made me cringe through most of it. I have read stories by this author before but I wonder if this is a genre with them that doesn't work for me. I felt like I was forcing myself to push through and finish the book and that it really drug out. My biggest pet peeve was the bdsm aspect and there weren't ever really any clear discussions about it.
This was over the top and dramatic, but I was down for it. Except Eli keeps being served wine and no one cards him (19 btw), and my disbelief couldn’t handle it. Now reading fellow reviews, the fuck fo you mean they don’t ever discuss the Daddy/Little dynamic. The number one rule of BDSM is communication for fucks sake. I’m out.
