Y'all. How am I supposed to go on with my day like nothing happened after that ending? Oath had me enthralled from beginning to end and I am so full of emotions and trying not to cry and failing. 5/5 stars from me.

"But don't lose hope, my dear friend. Ell Yon is still here...still for us..."

I was breathless. The major plot twist! It was so sobering to view know I've traveled with Daeson and Raviel over glaxaies and light years. I see why its called the Starelore legacy. My favorite book of the series so far!

Content/ Trigger Warnings:
intense scenes of violence and action. Okay for ages 13 and up

4.5/5 stars; would re-read; would recommend

All in all this was a thrilling book! I loved the plot twists, the character development, and the allegory!

Plot
1) Fairly strong plot, even though it became a bit repetitive of previous books. I enjoyed the variations and especially the twists on Raviel's character!
2) The plot twists weren't obvious, at least not to me.
3) The tensions and stakes were high throughout, lending themselves to plenty of enjoyment!

Characters
1) The characters were possibly the strongest part of the book. Everyone, from Lil to Raviel to Daeson and beyond, were beautifully written and well developed. All of them had real struggles, real insecurities, real pains.
2) The character arcs were realistic, which was impressive and very fun to read!

Setting/Worldbuilding
1) This was another strong point. The worldbuilding was described well and easy to imagine. I enjoyed the descriptions of different time periods and how the world changed as time raced by.
2) The technology, while fantastic and beyond anything in our time, was easy to picture and made realistic by simple descriptions, lending realism to a fictional world.

The allegory was amazing. Five stars right there! I especially enjoyed the allegory for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego!
The ending was... um... heart wrenching. I sobbed.
The amnesia trope was not obnoxious and probably one of the best uses I've read in a long time.

All in all, this book was fantastic. The descriptions were detailed without taking up five pages (sorry, Tolkien) and the plot, while repetitive, was still fun to read! The story as a whole was a beautiful image of God's love and unfailing mercy. Highly recommended!!!

I haven’t yet gotten my hands on a copy yet and I am dying to!!! I mean.. that cliffhanger ending of book 3!!😩🤯 soooo hopefully this one won’t be as heartbreaking as the last book was because I *ahem* will literally cry myself to sleep at night if Daeson and Riviel get separated for a third? (Or fourth?) time. 🤔 I honestly forget how many times they have been separated from each other. like literally all I want for them is to be happy and never have to endure anymore pain again is that too much to ask for Mr. Black?!?!?

And the screaming continues. . . .

Ok folks, to say that I've loved this series would be an understatement. I literally read books 2-4 within 48. Hours. AND I NEED BOOK 5!!!!

*tries to calm down* This one was by far the most bittersweet for me. I loved where it went, especially the Daniel part to it. That was definitely one of the coolest parts of the book!! but the END!! Yes, I know, I keep going on and on about these endings. But does Chuck Black seriously not know how to end a book without a cliffhanger?! *sobs* But hey, it's working, cause the very SECOND Merchant comes out, guess what I'm getting. But I loved the end!! I should've seen that coming. . . *smirks*

I think I've found a new favorite series. . .

I did not expect the twist at the end of this book! I highly recommend this story for your teenage reader.

This book didn't hold my interest as well as the original, but I think that may be because I am not the intended audience. I liked the ending of the story and my interest is now peaked for book #5!

I think I might have liked Oath best so far. Daeson's constant pursuit of Raviel is the sweetest thing. There was also a pretty big, awesome reveal that I may or may not have guessed a couple chapters before right at the end that I just LOVED.

The Starlore Legacy is one of our family's all-time favorite book series, and Oath did not disappoint. These books are so popular in our house that as soon as one arrives, it's a fight to see who gets to read it first! My twelve-year old brother won the race this time and finished Oath in well under twenty-four hours, but the rest of us took our turns as soon as he was done and finished in a comparable amount of time!

Like the other Starlore books, and like Chuck Black's other writing, Oath is a gripping story that hooks you immediately and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the duration of the book. It's action packed and exciting, yet also well-paced. One of my favorite parts of this book was seeing the characters really come alive; while they've all been well developed in previous books, I felt that this installment really brought the character crafting to a whole new level. The Biblical symbolism is well-executed and a big part of what makes this series stand out. The author does an excellent job writing an allegory that is faithful to Scripture, but at the same time exciting and unpredictable. As Oath takes us through the course of Old Testament history, we find ourselves excited to identify the parallels and emotionally connected not just to the story of Daeson and Raviel, but also to the much bigger true story of redemption.

Overall, Oath is probably my favorite installment of the Starlore Legacy to date. The action, the characters, and the story of the people of Rayl--sometimes heart-wrenching for how close Rayl's failings come to our own, but always encouraging in its faithfulness to point to the true Sovereign Ell Yon--all combine to form a story I honestly can't recommend highly enough. Mr. Black skillfully communicates truth in an engaging and powerful way. Clean, wholesome, and perfect for the whole family, Oath is a read you won't forget!

OATH, Book Four in the Starlore Legacy, is a great new installment of Chuck Black’s allegorical science-fiction series. For the first half or so of the book, our main character is Raviel, who is being ripped through time and space due to slipstream time dilation. Absent her bonded, Daeson, she assists in the organization of the leadership of her people as well as reviving a spirit of hope and resilience. Then, she reunites with those she loves, and the story turns toward the struggle of survival. She, Daeson, Tig, and Kyrah are captured and forced to fight in deadly starship battle games. How will they honor their Sovereign, Ell Yon, in such a place?
Though I think I still liked the third book a little better (because of personal preference), I still really enjoyed reading this book. Chuck knows how to keep your interest, and the stories he writes are filled with action, intriguing characters, and harrowing plot twists that keep you guessing as to what’s going to happen next.
I really enjoyed getting more time with the other main characters, including Raviel, Tig, and Kyrah. Chuck fleshed them out enough to make them relatable and enjoyable. When something happened to any one of them, I felt it personally. And the supporting characters were great as well. It was cool to see the allegorical links to the Old Testament as well. I loved his twist on Rack, Shack, and Benny (anyone who watched Veggietales growing up knows the reference), and the battle scenes with the Shrieks were really exciting and very well written!
I listened to the audio drama of Oath, and I loved having different voice actors for the different characters. They were all good at their job, and made it easy to visualize what was going on in-scene, as if it were happening right in front of you.
Overall, I’d give Chuck Black’s Oath a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I loved it and would certainly recommend it to my friends!

Another awesome episode in The Starlore series and Chuck Black of course scores again!
So many twists! Poor Daeson and Raviel never get a moment of peace. 😂 They continue to jump through the future, and every time they find Rayl in need of rescue yet again. I wasn't super fond of this... Daeson and Raviel save the world, jump 400 years ahead, save the world again, repeat, almost die, repeat and repeat, lol. Sovereign Ell Yon can't raise up new heroes to save the day so he just transports the greatest in the land through 1500 years of time to come to the rescue. Just something I had to laugh at. Wasn't my favorite thing. Now, I enjoy Daeson and Raviel and all, but I wouldn't mind following new characters' stories and just having the couple live and normal happy full life in their own time era. I do appreciate the pillers of the faith that the foursome are - Daeson, Raviel, Tig, and Kyrah - They are bold, stand for the truth, and don't back down, no matter the cost. They are in tune with God and listen to His voice, and He leads and guides them faithfully!

Anyway, small bunny trail. Overall I enjoyed this book and recommend if you want a trilling, edge-of-your-seat, Kingdom building, sci-fi adventure, packed with faith, courage, and space-battles.

Some quotes:
"The entire galaxy is damaged. There is only one way this can be restored, but the time is not yet. I will be with you, and I am sufficient."

"You have a noble heart. Dreams are the stuff of hope and adventures."

"When times are hard, remember that Ell Yon makes no mistakes."

*takes a deep breath* Well... Things went down in this book. Probably one of the most intense books in this series.

I enjoyed Daeson, Raviel, Tig, and Kyrah became this 'foursome' group of friends for awhile. They're all amazing characters, and Tig makes the best side-kick character ever.
Black explores some Biblical stories that he didn't touch on so much in his Knights series, which I'm all for. It's kinda fun, trying to guess what time period in the Biblical timeline we're in now lol. It tests your Bible knowledge.

That plot twist at the end I didn't expect, and I am happy with it! Now, it was sad that SPOILER: She'll be missed. But I'm eager to see what will happen with Brae.
Rivet was amazing as always. I can't believe I like a robot so much.

Overall, this book was a typical Chuck Black book that I enjoyed. Clean, full of adventure, and full of wonderful morals. All of which we need more of when it comes to young people fiction. And though I'm not longer one of those 'young people' anymore, I can still enjoy these stories.

I have been back and forth between 3 and four star ratings for 2-4th books in the series; but as I read these fairly quickly and then was away for a while, I don't remember my full thoughts.

The parallels between these stories and Scriptural accounts have become more obvious as I read... And there are both pros and cons to this.

I have been a bit disappointed a few times by how Scripture is portrayed and a layer of feminine leadership that I wasn't expecting. But I've also seen Biblical accounts through a new lens that have helped me better understand their context.

This has been a wonderful series of books to read. Gave this one, the fourth book, five stars because of the ending. So, as not to spoil it for you I will only say that I could picture the scenes as if watching a movie. If you like fantasy sci-fi you will enjoy the whole Starlore Legacy series. Now on to book five, The Merchant. Can hardly wait to learn what happens next!

Oath is another action-packed story in the StarLore Legacy Series. The author, Chuck Black definitely has a very creative take on writing allegorically. I was especially intrigued by the "time travel" elements of the story. And Daeson and Raviel are the perfect "star crossed lovers", made all the more poignant as one realizes the inevitable end of their story.

How is this sooo good?!?!? I loved seeing the growth and the struggles of the characters in this book. Their thoughts and insecurities are real and easy to relate to. Such powerful lessons are learned.

While the plot is amazing, it is very similar to each of the previous books, but each book has its own set of challenges. Book 5 here I come!!

another excellent read

Chuck black continues to impress. One of the few writers over the years who write well but have not compromised with the world to water down his works to make them more palitabile to the world. So thankful for his writings.

I love how Chuck Black bases the story of Daeson and the Rayleans off of stories in the Bible. In my opinion, this one didn’t leave me on the edge of my seat as much as the first three, but it was a good read! I need to get the fifth one because once again, Chuck Black left me on a cliffhanger!!
