When Carrie is reunited with her childhood neighbor Lucas at a friend’s engagement party, it’s obvious why she—and every other girl in school—had a crush on him growing up. In fact, he’s even more handsome and charming than ever.
With her thirtieth birthday approaching, she recalls their teenage promise to marry if they are both still single—a promise she doesn’t know if he remembers and she still dreams might come true.

If you enjoy childhood friends to love stories you'll enjoy this one. Carrie and Lucas made a pact as teens that if they were still single when they were 30 years old they'd marry each other. Of course they went their separate ways and didn't think anything about it until they're brought together again as Carrie's 30th birthday approaches. Is it fate that they're reunited at a friend's engagement party?
This is such a sweet story. I liked how Lucas helped Carrie out of her comfort zone and being a cat lover, I really loved Lucas' cat that kept eating Carrie's plants. I liked that little bit of humor that kept things light. This is book #5 in The Wedding Whisperer series but it can stand on its own.
I received a complimentary copy from Hatco Publishing via NetGalley. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.
Can’t fault a girl for her feelings… Oh my, what a dance these two do around each other! Carrie and Lucas go waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy back, to when they were best friends as kids. This is their story and their solemn – well, solemn enough for 15 year olds – oath to marry each other, if they were not married by their thirtieths birthdays. And guess what’s coming up?
Lucas and Carrie haven’t seen each other in fifteen years! There’s a touching backstory for Carrie and why she is against commitment of any kind, and marriage, but she has to deal with those feelings when she gets to know Lucas again. It’s that story of their “new” relationship that is so warm and hard to read, all at the same time. Family relationships come into play and thru it all Lucas is there for Carrie. Even if she doesn’t realize it.
Crazy (in a fun way of course) characters, friends of Carrie’s, show up again – from previous books – and it was great to catch up with what’s happening in their lives. This is a standalone read but I always enjoy other characters showing up again. Good, quick read! It might even make you sniffle.
When Carrie and Lucas were teenagers, they made a promise that if they weren’t married when they were thirty, they would get married. As Carrie will be thirty is a few weeks, she wonders about Lucas and what has happened with him. She had tried to find him but was not successful. Now she is reunited with him at her friend’s engagement party. It turns out Lucas is the groom’s best friend and has come back for the wedding. The story has it all from funny moments to a second chance of happiness. If you like cats, you will enjoy that there is a cat involved that keeps eating her plants.
There is a promise over ten years old, a chance for a new job, and a chance to see if the promise is kept. As always, this author has great mix of romance and humor throughout this story making this story hard to put down. There is a good pace to the story and the characters are very likeable. This is a story that can standalone though it reads better with the series.
Book 5 is a clean, second chance romance. A story of friendship, love and a past promise. The characters are sweet and charming. Adding to the fun, past characters pop in from previous books. Even though it is part of the series, it is a standalone story. The story line is adorable and entertaining. This is a sweet, humorous romance that will leave you with a smile.
A cute story about promises made that is filled with emotions and hearts that are uncertain and broken until the right events occur and set the world back together. Laughter and a few tears too. Plus,a plant eating cat. Enjoyed.
I literally can't fault this book at all! I thoroughly enjoyed it right from the start - very easy to read, and I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. It was only a quick read but I don't think anything was scrimped on at all. Was a bit predictable but let's be honest, most of these kind of books are, but I still enjoy them.
If you enjoy easy reads, then this is definitely the book for you.
Carrie Clark worked the front counter at Totally Fit for the last five years. She started working there just before her mom passed away. She opened the gym and it was early before clients would be coming in so she went through her home mail. When she finds a notice that they will be raising her rent. Now she knows she has no choice she needs to find a better-paying job. Then, her friends asked what she was going to do. She said since her thirtieth birthday was coming soon, maybe she could ask her family for money towards rent.
Which triggered a memory of a pinky-promise with a neighbor boy she crushed on who was moving away and they were so close. The promise had been that at thirty if they were both single that they would marry each other. At that moment she meant it with all her heart she truly loved Lucas. Meanwhile, she has been made the maid of honor for her cousin Gina’s wedding. Her Aunt Elaine has always scared her. And as a favor to her cousin and her fiancé, Chris, she will be running interference to give the bride some peace from her mom. It's the night of the engagement party and she is now the person responsible for taking pictures, since she has a fancy camera.
Plus, she was in charge of picking up the cupcake tower, along with the cake topper. Gina introduces her to the florist Katie Ellis who owns Gold Rush Flowers. The two women hit it off. Katie talks about being a widow and Carrie talks about the boy that did the pinky promise fifteen years ago. It's at that moment she sees Rachel's dog stealing the cake topper so there goes Carrie running after him until she runs into a brick wall. But instead, it turns out to be the boy she made the pinky promise with who is now all man and muscles, Lucas. Turns out he is Chris's best man.
Meanwhile, her aunt keeps nagging Carrie about visiting her dad, after all, Aunt Elaine is her dad’s sister, but it's not her business. You see she’s not talked to her dad since he married three months after her mom died. Her thought being, what a way for him to honor his wife, whom he said he once loved by getting married so soon after she died. So now he did just ruin their relationship he ruined her idea of marriage because she knows no one loves you forever just long enough to get you buried so they can move on.
Lucas and she talk and it turns out they are neighbors. There are misunderstandings across the board but when she tells Gina she’s looking for a job, Chris puts her on a job lead as Adman. Assistant at the company that Chris and Lucas work at and it’s Lucas who she interviews with. See if she gets the job, the man, and her relationship with her dad back. This is one emotional rollercoaster. It's raw at times and so funny at other times.
The h gives all kinds of mixed signals in this story. She is approaching 30 and remembers the pact she made with her best friend (the H) 15 years ago. If they were both single at 30, they would marry. She's never forgotten him.
He just happens to return to the same town and as they renew their friendship, he confesses he remembers the pact and wants to marry her. She now decides she doesn't want to marry because of how her dad quickly remarried when her mom died. This part was written with such feeling, I knew exactly how the h felt with her father marrying within only 4 months.
The h has a friend who lost her husband and can't bring herself to even date again because they were soulmates. This also rang true to me, and I felt the friend's anguish. This raised my rating because was emotional.
At times she didn't act as a women approaching 30, but much younger. The H hasn't seen the h in 15 years. States he never forgot her. My question, if this is true, why did he wait so long to contact her? He knew where she was.
Her witchy aunt tells her how the H went to see her father (who she is estranged). Later in the story, the H tells her the same thing and she acts surprised.
No cheating, no cliffhanger and is a standalone, HEA, little on romance and only kisses.
I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)
Carrie Clark is in charge of the front desk at Totally Fit. She is going to be turning thirty soon. She has her cousin Gina’s engagement party and wedding coming up and has no date. When Carrie was fifteen, she made a pact with her best friend, Lucas Carter, that if neither of them was married by the time she turned thirty, they would marry each other. Not long after making the pinky promise, Lucas moved away because his parents got divorced. Carrie has no idea where he lives now or what he is doing.
Carrie just found out that her rent is going up. She is going to have to look for a different job that pays more. Carrie thought that by now, she would be financially stable and be married or at least seriously dating someone.
I felt bad for Carrie because she was dealing with so much at one time. She was dealing with being the maid of honor for her cousin which meant dealing with her aunt. She also had to either find a better job or find a cheaper place to live and also had to deal with a noisy next-door neighbor.
I wanted Carrie and Lucas to find each other. I thought Carrie’s story was a great ending to the series.

The Wedding Promise is the fifth and last book in The Wedding Whisperer series. I own all five books of the series and they are all pure joy and enchantment to read. This is a friends to more romance about Carrie and Lucas. When they were growing up their families were neighbors. This meant that they were friends when they were kids, but lost touch when they graduated. Carrie had always had a crush on Lucas she the reverse was true for him also. When they were fifteen they had made a pact that if they were both single when they turned thirty they would get married. Well now that is approaching and they are reunited once again....what will happen with the pact and who remembers it was made. Yep this story is clean but so delicious, like the perfect vanilla cake with the right balance of flavors to make it lip smacking tasty and nuanced at the same time.
Thank you NetGalley, Susan Hatler and Hatco Publishing for the copy of The Wedding Promise. This is my personal review. This is book number 5 in the Wedding Whisperer series. This series is amazing. I love every word Susan Hatler writes and I can not wait for the next one I am going to read. Carrie and Lucas have been friends for years and they made a promise that if by the time they turn 30 they would marry each other if they were still single. That date is fast approaching for them. I love the chemistry between the two of them is heartwarming- touching and everything I want in a romance book.
An awesome, romantic comedy. Carrie and Lucas, childhood friends, reunite at an engagement party. At fifteen, a promise was made to marry if they were single when they turned thirty.
Betrayal, disillusionment, insecurity, and miscommunication play significant roles in keeping the couple apart. Other minor escapades add to the enjoyment. The end is delightful.
As teens, Carrie and Lucas promised to marry each other if they were still single at thirty. Then, life took them in different directions. When they meet again as adults, it doesn't take long for them to slot back into each other's lives. Will these best friends become lovers after all?
This is a sweet, funny, emotional read. I like how Lucas forced Carrie out of her comfort zone and helped her grow.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
A beautiful feel good read by Susan Hatler! This was my first book by her and I absolutely loved it. The premise was extremely interesting and something that immediately appealed to me.
The childhood friendship, reconnect after years and marriage pact made it a cute romance. This will make you smile as the author uses little things to make it more relatable and easier to connect.
Thank you NetGalley and Hatco Publishing for the copy of The Wedding Promise in exchange for my unbiased review.
Sweet story about love and loss and finding a way back to happiness. I loved Carrie and Lucas. Having lost my mom, I knew exactly how she felt about moving on with her life without her. I think Lucas coming back and loving her made all the difference. He was genuinely a great guy who only wanted the best for her.

This was a wonderful story… As Carrie approaches her 30th birthday she contemplates her life choices and lack of achievements. Her mother’s death five years previously was devastating and she’s having trouble moving forward. She’s thinking about her childhood crush Lucas and their marriage pact when serendipity brings them together… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
This is a charming & moving story. What true romance is all about. At 15 years old Carrie & Lucas, made a promise to each other. Unfortunately, Lucas had to move away. Carrie, was turning 30. Her life was going nowhere. She had friends, but was not interested in a falling in love. If love stood right in front her, would Carrie open her heart. I truly enjoyed reading it!!
The Wedding Promise is a book about friendship and love, it's about learning more about yourself and who you are and how you have become that person through experiences. This book made me think about those things in myself. It was a very sweet romance and how you never know how you will fall in love.
This is the fifth in a series, but it read like a stand alone. It was a short book in page count only. It has deep characters that you root for and can relate to. This quick, easy read makes me want to go back and read the series from the beginning.
I have not read Susan Hatler before, but I will be looking for her next book
The first book in this series was better than the ones that followed. For some reason, it seems like the writing changed. I don’t know if there was a problem with proofreading or editing, but there were spelling/grammar errors that made it feel that the books were rushed through. I probably won’t read any more by this author.
I enjoyed this sweet story about reunited friends. There were lots of funny moments and cameos from previous characters mixed in with sweet and tender moments between Carrie and Lucas. It was very romantic.
I can say I enjoyed this but can relate to Carrie being upset that her fad remarried so soon after her mothers death. I am glad she finally reconciled with him though. I loved that her and Lucas got together.
A story that captures your heart and soul. Carrie and Lucas made promises as children that they would marry at age 30. He just moves back to town....does he remember that promise? Full of friend's wedding stress, laughter, new job, family, and lots of love.....
Just no. She is a mess. Can’t seem to deal with life. Reconnects with boy from her youth after 15 yrs and apparently neither changed in 15 yrs. Too much friend dramas.
