The best Rebel Girls book so far, by far, and that’s saying a lot!!!

If you aren’t aware of the Rebel Girls series and the revolution it has brought about in children’s biographical nonfiction, you have been missing out on a lot. I have read every single book of this series so far and even gifted a few copies to my kid’s friends. So believe me when I say, the Rebel Girls authors have outdone themselves this time even compared to their usual high standards.

The format is the same as the other books of the series. Each page contains a story-like biography of a young achiever on the left hand side, and an illustrated portrait of the woman on the right hand side along with a quote by her/them. As always, the illustrations are also drawn by women artists of various ages from around the world. One of the artists is just 11 years old!

Unlike the earlier books in series, all the girls/women featured in this book are contemporary, which makes a big difference in connecting with their achievement. The foreword by Bindi Irwin sets the right tone for the content. This edition features some countries that have never featured before in a Rebel Girls book, such as Denmark, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Liechtenstein. The book includes a range of young women achievers from disparate fields such as music, STEM fields, extreme sports, environment, food, gaming and fashion. The issues covered include mental health, body positivity, environmental awareness, dyslexia awareness, refugee crisis, online security and many more. There is LGBTQIA+ rep through the inclusion of trans women. The inclusivity also extends to women with physical and developmental disabilities. What more do you want when you are looking for the right role models as well as the right inspiration for your children?

Are you still confused about whether I am recommending this or not? YES, I AM RECOMMENDING IT! Go and buy it for every child you know, regardless of gender. (Heck, you too read it. God knows there’s enough of negativity in our lives nowadays about the world. Books like this can help somewhat relieve our minds about the future.)

5 rainbow-coloured stars.

My thanks to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for the DRC of “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

I bought a copy of the first one in the series for my younger sister and she DEVOURED it. she’s basically obsessed with it now so you already know i couldn’t resist checking this one out too, especially because this one features younger girls and women. Now what did i think of it ? Well it was pretty enjoyable to say the least !

The illustrations are gorgeous as per usual and the colors are always so vibrant i think it really suits the whole idea that this book wants to convey, which is to put it simply: express yourself in the way that you want and don’t be afraid to follow your passion no matter what other people might think of you.

I think it’s an extremely important thing to remind children of, especially young girls because we’re taught from a fairly young age that the only way we could be taken seriously is by toning down our femininity (but without doing it too much of course because God forbid a woman acts too “masculine” I mean where is the world going ? 🙄) So reminding them that you can choose to express yourself in whatever way you want and that it won’t necessarily impact negatively your future life was pretty refreshing !

[personal story : when i had to buy my stethoscope earlier this year, the first thing that i told myself was that there was no way i’d take a colorful one (*especially not a pink one*) and you know why ? because i thought - and that might be partially true - that getting a colorful one would make me seen as less professional and i didn’t want that because me being a woman was already disadvantageous enough 🙃 so you can imagine how impactful this message could be for so many little girls]

the concise biography format is pretty enjoyable but i wish it wasn’t so factual : it’s really easy to lose interest with all the dates and institutions (that younger people might not even have heard of) listed, and even though the book is made to be read like a bedtime story, so maybe one or two per day, i still think that it turned out to be almost boring at times.

i’d still recommend it and i think it would make an amazing educational but still pretty entertaining gift :)

Thank you very much to Netgalley for this ARC !

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers is another wonderful addition to the Rebel Girls series!I loved the diversity and inclusion of the young girls in this book. Some I had heard of and knew and many I didn't- but that's what I love so much about these books - they introduce you to and make you aware of many different females who are making a difference, a change and who are so interesting and inspirational to boot! The illustrations are so amazing and very lifelike to the person they are of. This is such an inspiring series for all females! In this edition we discover female scientists, artists and inventors to name but a few and I loved how disabled, Indigenous and people of colour were not only included but celebrated throughout this book!

This was my favorite Rebel Girls book yet! I loved the diverse experiences of the girls and women featured here - scientists, activists, athletes, and musicians. I was inspired by this book and can't imagine how much it would have meant to me as a young girl. Highly recommended, especially for those with young girls!

Such an enchanting compilation that struck me in awe for both its stories and lovely illustrations. Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers is the 5th volume of the Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls series; consists of 100 stories from 100 extraordinary girls and young women, this collection was packed with past and present group of changemakers from artists to designers, athletes, activists as well as scientists and inventors— I knew few of them but mostly I heard for the first time from this read.

Narrated in a bedtime fairytale format, flipping through the pages really drowned me in its insighful reflection of how these changemakers started their journeys and strive through their dreams. Even though the storytelling was quite compact, short with minimal element of fun due to its factual based, I love how each created awareness and inspired me in some ways as few stories related to today’s anxieties; of mental health, gender identity, climate change and environmental damage. The illustrations were the most addictive part of this book; drawn by 82 young artists with their own tone and medium really adding more gripping hues to complement all the changemakers’ stories. Honestly been staring at each drawing more longer than I read the stories.

Might be flipping through this again once a while if I need a break from my fiction reads; an absolute uplifting collection, quite phenomenal too for me. 4.2 stars to this!

Thank you Times Reads for the gifted copy!

“Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers” is the fifth volume of the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls series but for me it was the first book I read in the series.

I already heard a lot and just good things about the series and now wanted to read it myself. And it really didn’t disappoint.

The main aspect for me to pick up the book was honestly Taylor Swift on the cover because I am a huge Swiftie. I only knew her and a few other girls from the book but all stories were really interesting and I learned a lot of new things!

One thing I also really liked about the book was that the chosen people were very diverse and that everybody can identify with at least one or two of the girls.

I also really enjoyed the length of the stories and how detailed the illustrations and were.

After reading this I can’t wait to pick up the other volumes and I really recommend this book not just for younger kids but also for everyone who liked to learn more about young and strong woman and girls.

Thank you to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for the chance to this EARC!

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers includes 100 bed time stories about young women who did something inspiring. Unlike the other Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, this collection of stories does not include historical figures. It was great to read about all these young inventors, artists, scientists and many other women. The stories include Black, Indigenous and other women of colour as well as women with disabilities.

If you are looking for good night stories that will inspire your child and show them that they can achieve their dreams even when they are young, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers is the book for you.

As with previous Rebel Girls books, the stories included here are inspiring and educational. This volume focuses on 'young changemakers' - girls age 5 to teens who are making a difference and changing the world in a variety of ways, from music and the arts to sports to activism to being proud of their bodies and their heritage. The one-page stories are concise and easy-t0-read but also emotional and inspiring. They are also very diverse. The illustrations are lovely and complement the text well.

I would recommend this to school and classroom libraries as well as children and teens of all genders.

The latest Rebel Girls book, this time focusing on the successes of 100 Young Changemakers, was an enlightening, heartwarming read I would honestly recommend to anyone. Reading incredible experiences from incredible young women made me feel so proud to be a woman. This is a book I will be reading to my future children, with this book teaching them they are capable of anything and when things get tough, push through and you will still end up on top. An easy read you can pick up and read a few pages here and there, I highly recommend!

Rebel Girls: 100 Young Changemakers is a wonderful book. With each turn of a page, you are greeted with a description of the young person’s achievements along with beautiful artwork. Every story comes with a portrait of the changemaker, each illustrated by a different author. I cherished the idea of so many talented artists being featured in the book! The inspiring true stories in the book had me breaking off on most pages to go research and watch videos of the amazing achievements made by these incredible young women. Overall, this book sends the message that children are capable of absolutely anything.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Another fantastic offering by Rebel Girls!

This was the book which just kept giving!

From Amelia Telford to Taylor Swift, this book brought inspiring young changemakers from all over the world and all different walks of life together in a beautifully illustrated children's book!

I felt I knew more of the people mentioned within this one - however there were still plenty of new young women for me to learn about!

I'm a sucker for good bonus content and really appreciated that the female and non binary illustrators and authors got their own bios in the back of this book! It was great to hear a little about them, as their stories are also inspiring, and important.

The 'meet more rebels' section was also great and gave readers an opportunity to learn about the other offerings from Rebel Girls whilst it didn't feel too much like an advertisement.

Thank you Rebel Girls for the opportunity to read another excellent offering!

I have loved all the Rebel Girls books so far, mostly because it introduces me to women I have never heard of. Most of the stories feature women front long ago, as well as the present day. In this volume, however, we onlyk have present day. And although the girls and women are largely from the US, there are other countries represented here as well.

We have young women like Billie Eilish and Greta Thunberg, and then we have Bonnie Chiu, who I have never heard of, but who apparently is big in social media or Cassidy Crowley who invented a spoon for babies, as part of a science fair project.

As always these stories are inspiring, and enlightening as to what young women can accomplish in this world.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

Such empowering story collection. Reading such stories that are pertinent to everyday life is always beneficial for analysing and enhancing individual development.

I have yet to read any Rebel Girls series and this one is good. Every tale is motivating in its own unique way. It made it difficult for me to choose a favourite because they were all exceptional and different from one another. The best part, in my opinion, was how the rebels from various backgrounds made the book more vibrant and interconnected.

This book suitable for all readers to reach out on the inner youth for inspiring story. Thank you Times Reads for sending me a copy in exchange for honest review.

I always love these Rebel Girls series. I like how they use women and young girls from all over the world and share their amazing stories. And I like how they are all different, but the same. Their are some who are singers, athletes, inventors, scientists, entrepreneurs, activists in many causes, etc. I hope these women and young girls can inspire a new generation of rebel girls.

Thank you NetGalley for my advanced e-copy. I have read all the books in this series, so I’m already down for the format of story on one page, and illustration on the other. I love that most of the stories start with a varient of ‘Once Upon a time’. This time the stories are about young and current change makers: like Billie Eilish and Jojo Siwa. I enjoyed discovering the stories I didn’t know like conservationist/spider enthusiast Hollie Greenhalgh or Karate Champ Yashika . I will be recommending this to all the parents I know.

It is just as good as the other Rebel Girls books. What was even better about this was that it was about young change makers and it would let other young girls know that they can do something small that will have a big impact on the world no matter how small the person doing it is. I would recommend this for any young girls, this would entertain teens too!

Another great installment in the Rebel Girls series. This particular version has the features which I have liked about the other volumes; while there are famous faces, there are a large number of people featured who I would not have heard about otherwise; the stories and illustrations are compiled by a variety of contributors; and the style is very engaging to young readers.
All in all, a great addition to the series.

Stories for those who want to learn about current Rebel Girls. All of the girls in this book are born in the 1990s to the 2010s. They vary from a choreographer, Jalaliah Harmon from the USA, to a scientist, Kiara Nirghan of South Africa, you can find out about young women from all over the world doing all sorts for the world around them and the greater world for us all. There are athletes and climate activists. Each story is a page long and is perfect for reading at night, just be careful, you might want to keep going as you read. They are inspirational, even for someone older, like me. May these inspire more people to do better for themselves and the world around us.

I am 20yo and I am always on a lookout for a good story to read before bed, but I also appreciate reading books like this when you crave simplicity and relaxation; that is why I chose to request this book. So thank you to Rebel Girls the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

To start off, the cover is stunning and a great representation of what you are about to read. Each changemaker gets a page of writing about them with a cartoon portrait and quote attached in alphabetical order. I had some criteria in mind when reading this book and deciding how to rate this book. The book fulfils my criteria/expectations, desires and beyond. I judged this book based on the way it was written, if it’s informative but not overwhelming, if I liked the artwork, if I felt that a diverse group of people were represented (age, location, disabilities etc.).

The writing is consistent throughout and never jarring. It is simple, to the point and enjoyable due to its fairytale-like style. I appreciated the addition of DOBs (Date of Births) as it showcases a diverse age range within young changemakers, but I thought it’s questionable that Nora Al Matrooshi’s DOB was incomplete. I figured perhaps it would be fairly easy as a publisher to ask someone or their representative for that information. Anyway, I found the book informative and fun, never overwhelming. That is if you don’t read all at once because learning and retaining information about 100 people is hard, even if you know some of them already. I liked nearly all the artwork, loved some of the artwork and disliked maybe a few because I thought it was not up to standard. The art is vibrant, colorful and big. I recall really liking the artwork for Billie Eilish (credit: Paula Zorite) and Greta Thunberg (credit: Pau Zamro). Yes, this book does a good job of crediting artists throughout and I highly respect that.

I would say I did not know the majority of the changemakers beforehand, so that is a good thing. I am glad that it is not celebrity heavy, because the focus on inventors who change their community and other people’s in turn are my favourite. I really liked the diversity of age within young people and I fit squarely in. It was kind of weird seeing changemakers born after 2010 because I forget it’s been so many years since then, but really happy to see of course. So many countries/nationalities were mentioned and that makes me happy as a WoC.

Lastly, I liked how extensive the crediting is at the back of the book and that the art is credited on the changemakers’ page itself without being distracting. There has been a lot of thought and care put into the formatting and structure of this book. It is beautiful and I imagine a physical copy would be even nicer to hold. I also appreciate that there are some relevant and reflective activities, so that the reader is left with something to consider about themselves.

I found this book empowering and uplifting, so I would recommend this book to people who like fairytale styled books and just want to know about young people who are making changes in the world. I thought I knew it all but I don’t. This is a good compilation and would encourage anyone to read this book, as I wish I had something like this growing up.

I've seen this book series around and have been interested, but this is the first time I've been able to read a copy. My general reaction was: YES!

I love this. I love this concept. I love the idea of raising children with stories of real people who are strong, brave, creative, smart, and influential. I love the idea of children growing up knowing these stories and feeling that, hey, if these girls can do this, then maybe I can too! I strongly believe in the power of books and stories, and these are the kinds of stories that can change individuals so they can go on to change the world.

So to the overall concept of this series and this book: YES, YES, YES!

I like the format of the book a lot. The bright illustrations and colors make it feel fun and engaging, which will help draw the interest of younger children who still want books to look fun. I like how every illustration includes a quote from the highlighted person and a credit to the illustrator, allowing the page to highlight the talents and skills of all kinds of women and nonbinary artists. I love that the illustrators and writers all have bios.

I like that they highlight birthdays as well as key words to describe the person or what they work on such as "dyslexia," "transgender" or "immigrants" so that it is easy for readers to find stories that are from people like them or to learn about a specific topic.

The stories are short, only a few paragraphs, to highlight the person and their accomplishments without being overwhelming or potentially having someone lose interest. I also love the implementation of QR codes to that readers can hear longer stories of some of the people if they are interested.

Overall, I love this book and will now need to pick up the other books in the series. If I ever have children of my own, this will absolutely be a frequently visited book series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for the e-ARC to read and review. Something I love most about the Rebel Girls book series overall (and the Good Night editions specifically too) is in the variety of representations: the anthologies include historical figures, current changemakers, and those rebellious leaders who are absolutely going to go on doing big things in the future too. This particular book focuses on the latter, highlighting young changemakers who have already made a splash - and are certainly destined for further greatness. (I'm not sure if there's a definitive age cutoff, but to my note, most featured figures are currently under 30 - with most being in their teens and early 20s.) This is also a book of many introductions - I imagine that most readers would be introduced to more young entrepreneurs, activists, athletes, artists, etc. than read about figures they're already familiar with. I think this is really cool, because there are some major celebrities and prominent figures included (like Billie Eillish, Jojo Siwa, Bindi Irwin, and Greta Thunberg) alongside more everyday girls who are making incredible change. I also loved seeing how many of these stories feature girls who've used social media and technology to make their voices heard and find larger communities - I think we sometimes see online spaces presented as frivolous when young people know so well how impactful digital connections can be. Absolutely pick up this book for the curious kid, teen, 20-something and up in your life!
