The Ascendant: The 108 Planets of Vedic Astrology

Rate this book
An integration of Yogic and Vedic principles begin this detailed examination of the 9 planets of Vedic Astrology as expressed through the 12 ascendants. The ascendant is the foundation of every chart, in this book each ascendant has at least 10 pages of explanation. It reveals the unique nature of each person, shown by the psychology of each planet.

"Before we can effectively use Yogas, judge transits and use other advanced methods, our foundation must be strong and rooted in the firm soil of understanding. That understanding begins with the ascendant and planets as house lords. Once rooted in this fertile soil, advanced methods become clarified and the tree of Jyotish can grow. This allows our practice to be a shelter of truth and clarity to those who seek our guidance." - Excerpt from "The Ascendant"

In this book Sam Geppi shows how planets work for someone who's Ascendant falls in particular sign. In Vedic Astrology the main indicator of this incarnation is the sign of Ascendant. For each position of Ascendant planets govern different areas of life via house rulership, therefore creating specific type of personality. In this sense, each planet works differently for each of 12 types of personalities, (making 9 x 12 = 108 "planets"). Sam describes how each of personality types can work with energies of planets to improve different areas of life. Its an excellent textbook, but not a light reading.
Example: For Aries Ascendant, Mars rules 1st and 8th houses, which means that this person gains understanding of their true identity by involving in dangerous situations (it's a very coarse 1st level of reading). 1st house considered "dharmic" (keeping a person on "true path"), so Mars is a good planet for Aries person. If Mars is weak in the chart (regardless of its position), it works similarly like being in detriment (4th house Cancer), causing this person to apply force instead of listening to his heart, in situations when he feels vulnerable (4th house is our private quiet space). Also, weak planet is in "sleep" state, so weak Mars will not provide enough challenges to this person and won't bring tough situations when courage is required. Such circumstance is not good for person's evolution. So this person needs to elevate his Martian energy, be careful to apply force in a manner as if his Mars was exalted - in his 10th house Capricorn, place of "karmic actions", where courage and strength needed to abandon comfort and do the right thing. He needs to pursue some kind of career to serve the society (10th house) to help in realization of his true identity.
So its a good book to keep handy when recommendation needed for someone to deal with difficult "trend". I personally find it irreplaceable!

I want everyone I know to read this.

For fifteen years I was a fan of Western Astrology. I have been able to guest people's sun sign's, 40% to 50% of the time. Those numbers are high if one considers the odds. But things didn't seem to add up, or make since to me. Like Sun signs like Cancers or Sagittarius, didn't seem like they fit the description's. I would compare people by analyzing there actions and behavior before I asked them. So I tried reading charts. Soon after that I gave up on Western Astrology.
Then I saw KRS channel. It been two years and I am trying to create a balance in my life with time spent on Vedic Astrology and everything else. I am in love. Sam Geppi is my favorite vedic guru and I plan moving to San Fran to take his course's and tell him I am his #1 fan. NO ONE ELSE ONLY ME! But first Venus Saturn Dasha is going to continue to give me a lesson about karma, at gun point. I am Leo rising so this time in my life doesn't seem vary fare. But it's actually a gift rapped with hell.

In depth description of how an being born in a certain Ascendant shapes One's entire life.

It's like diving into an ocean of knowledge. Relatable enough to not push away readers who don't have an understanding of Vedic Astrology.
