Attending St. Bastian’s Institute for Magic and the Supernatural is no fun when you’re terrible at spells. She’d much prefer to leave the magic to her classmates, but sadly, Darya has her final year to complete. She’s hoping to keep her head down and graduate, however life has other plans.
One of her teachers has been shockingly murdered and everyone thinks she did it. Well, not everyone. Peter Girard, the warlock she’s spent years secretly pining for, knows she’s innocent. Unfortunately, there’s enough bad blood between their families to rival the Montagues and the Capulets, which makes being allies complicated.
In an effort to find the true killer, Darya asks Peter to help her cast a spell. But her ineptitude with magic leaves them with an unintended consequence. Darya’s and Peter’s minds have become magically fused, allowing them to communicate telepathically.
All this would be stressful enough if it weren’t for the fact that a demon has marked Darya and she has no idea why. As she and Peter try to discover who the demon is, their unexpected alliance brings about feelings neither of them could’ve anticipated.
*Foretold is a spin-off of The Blood Magic Series, however it is not necessary to have read the previous series to enjoy this book.*
L.H. Cosway lives in Ireland. Her inspiration to write comes from music. Her favourite things in life include writing stories, food, musical comedy, and of course, books. She thinks that imperfect people are the most interesting kind. They tell the best stories.
This story includes: ✨A supernatural academy✨ ✨Witches, warlocks, vampires & demons!✨ ✨History of betrayal between the hero & heroine's families✨ ✨A secret crush✨ ✨A spell gone wrong✨ ✨Telepathy✨ ✨A boatload of sexual tension✨
I’m not a YA fan, but this was wonderful! So glad I read it!!!
Darya was pretty much a normal teenage student. If normal means drinking blood from her donor and struggling to pass her magic classes at school. There’s also a demon that she’s determined to find due to the murder of one of her teachers. Despite all the paranormal extra curricular activities she’s involved in, she’s also affected by the average mean girl bullies as well as a crush on a boy. I loved the way she handled the mean girls even as her reactions to her crush rang true to what a “normal” teenage girl would do.
While we never get Peter’s point of view, there were several moments where I was able to pretty much read what he might be experiencing. For a teenage boy, he was protective of Darya and had a great alpha hero thread running through him. He was a great help to Darya despite the fact that his father was so strongly set against her and her family.
There is a good bit of action and drama throughout the book, much of it laced with the typical young adult antics. However, Peter and Darya are over 18 and things get pretty heated up between them and they end up making their own special magic together. I really enjoyed watching things play out with the many secondary characters while they didn’t take over the storyline.
I loved the way this all unfolded. It has a happy for now ending but also leaves it open for more to come. Overall, a great series started.
High school is never easy, magical high school is even harder. With the clicks, outcasts, crushes and mean girls, except these are witches/warlocks, vampires, human and more. Everything is more complex, more dangerous, and extreme. There is tension, lust, hate and fear. Darya, is the daughter of a powerful magical family, that have a history with her secret crush's family, Peter. Basically his family hates her's and curses every breath they take. Peter is also a classmate, and when they are placed together for a class exercise, things start to get harder. :D It's only the beginning of their connection. I loved these two, strong willed, strong magicked, and loyal characters. I loved it when a spell went wonky, the side effect was awesome and I wanted more of it. There was a mystery to be solved that played into the story. It was very shocking when the truth was revealed I can not wait for the next book.
I hadn't had any big book crush for several weeks and I was beginning to despair, but all it takes is for LH Cosway to take us back to Tribane and my wishes are granted. I immersed myself again in this world of vampires, wizards, elves and dhampirs and I didn't want to come out of it anymore. The writing of the author makes us vibrate with each chapter and makes us forget our sad world of humans. This spin-off of The blood Magic series keeps its promises and offers us the same quality. Here we follow Ethan and Tegan's daughter, Darya, a student at St Bastian's institute for Magic and the Supernatural, as well as her friends and enemies. LH Cosway builds a superb paranormal story with suspense, murders, revenge, deceptions, mysteries... But also a very beautiful love story between a young man and a young woman who should not love each other. Their families have been enemies for about 20 years, Peter's father is particularly stubborn about it (and I hate him), everyone knows their past. Tegan and Ethan are much more intelligent and tolerant. I was crazy in love with Ethan in the original series and here he does not disappoint me, he is still so protective and loving. I loved seeing Darya and Peter getting close with the hesitation typical of their age and background. I loved the result of a certain accident that allows them to get to know each other better. Even though they shouldn't be spending time together, they don't fight their feelings (as soon as a murder brings them closer). Their feelings are intense but there is a lot of sweetness between them, complicity, respect. The secondary characters are important but do not steal the show from our young couple. The mysteries are solved intelligently and with beautiful surprises. There is action, twists, magic, mutual aid, love... In short, I really loved it and I hope to return to Tribane soon!!!
This is my first YA Paranormal - I think-at least by this author. I love this author's rugby series with Penny Reid. I grabbed this without knowing that this is YA/PNR/Fantasy. I really got into the story. Great world buildings. Darya is a great heroine. Peter is such a great hero. He's very sweet with Darya, but very protective too. Darya is protective of him as well. If you like Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness or The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning, you might like this. I love Ms Cosway's writing style. This really took me away-which I really needed. It's a page turning but I never wanted it to end. These two have a lot to go through....Darya's parents are against Peter being friends with their daughter, but of course, they can change their minds. Darya's parents are great. I also like her older sister Rebecca. I want to read more about her in the next book. (yes, this series continues!) There's a mysterious bad guy(s) - the identity was a surprise to me. Great imagination and as I mentioned, the building of this world. I didn't read the series before this, but I think that I'll have to now. !
L.H. Cosway launches her St. Bastien Institute series, a spin-off of her Blood Magic series, with this young adult, star-crossed lovers story about Dayra Cristescu and warlock Peter Girard.
Let me start by saying that I loved going back to L.H. Cosway’s paranormal world of vampires, warlocks and other interesting beings that go bump in the night, and I’m sure fans of the Blood Magic series will love this, but it’s not necessary to read the prior to enjoy this book. Even though it’s in the same world, it’s quite different, it gave me a Vampire Academy kind of vibe which I also enjoyed.
I really liked Dayra. She’s a self-assured, loyal and strong teenager who suffers from pretty much the same kind ailments as any other teen does: having to deal with mean girls, boy crushes and passing classes, plus the smidgeon paranormal dealings with demons who are after you and a murder mystery thrown in.
Through it all though, she’s never rash, but rather analytical, thinking things through. I absolutely loved her.
While the story is told from Dayra’s point of view, L.H. expertly entwines Peter’s thoughts with a magical telepathy twist that allowed the reader to experience his protectiveness and feelings towards Dayra. Their romance is a magical slow burn.
The world building was fabulous and having the characters from the Blood Magic series plus the new additions to the story provided a fantastic layer to the action that unfolded. I can’t wait to see what L.H. comes up with next!
Foretold is book #1 of the St. Bastien Institute series (a spin-off of The Blood Magic Series) by L.H. Cosway. It's told from the heroine’s point of view. Genres: Paranormal Romance
In Foretold, you will find: A supernatural academy. ✔️Witches, warlocks, vampires, demons & more! ✔️A history of betrayal between the hero & heroine's families. ✔️A secret crush. ✔️A spell gone wrong. ✔️Telepathy. ✔️And of course, a boatload of sexual tension!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I dove into this novel. I somewhat liked the series this one stems from, but I wasn’t as in love with it as I usually am with Cosway novels. I will tell you this: I did not want to put this novel down once I started.
I found myself loving every word. From the characters to the plot and everything in between, I was completely consumed. If you are looking for a book bathed in mystery, romance, forbidden love, and magic, here it is.
Darya is half witch, half vampire studying at St. Bastians. She has two friends (Nic and Grace) that she leans on but she can’t hide her attraction for Peter—whose father despises her father. While Darya and Peter do not share in their parents’ hatred, things become complicated when a spell-gone-wrong makes it so they can read each other’s thought. With a blood-draining murderer on the loose and targeting people close to Darya, how can things get more complicated?
PROS: 1. Darya was such a likable character. She didn’t ask to be pitied because she is not the best at magic. She stands up for herself and others. I liked that the novel was from her POV. I wondered what Teagan and Ethan’s daughter would be like and I was not disappointed. 2. Could Peter be anymore perfect? I think every girl deserves their own blushing and protective Peter. He is very dimensional and has a lot of personality. I will say that I would have like to have some chapters from his POV or just a sneak peak into his home life. Maybe book 2 will reveal more?? This would be a great time for “show don’t tell”. I wanted to know more about his father and brothers. 3. The plot has you wanting to know more. There is a demon on the loose and trying to guess who it is was the fun part. I had my suspicions and went back and forth between characters, and the twist was totally brilliant. 4. This novel was like none I had read before, so the newness factor deserves it’s own pro. 5. All the sub-plots felt right. I was not overwhelmed by the Belinda drama or Angela being attacked and her relationship with Darya.
CONS: 1. Like I said before I wanted a bit more background on Peter. I wanted to see more interactions with his father and maybe a conversation or two with his brothers. He has such a soft heart but was raised by people so hateful I wonder what his childhood was like and how he survived not becoming a mini version of his father. 2. I wanted more of the demon. I felt he was captured too easily and was infatuated with Darya too quickly. Maybe we will see more of this in the next one.

I am absolutely thrilled by Foretold (St. Bastion Institute Book 1)! This is perfect for any avid reader of Twilight, Harry Potter, or lover of the paranormal.
Darya Cristescu is the recognizable eighteen year old daughter of arguably the most magically powerful couple in Tribane. She attends St. Bastion’s Institute for Magic and the Supernatural where, despite her illustrious pedigree, she is struggles with all things magical. Her favourite class is Weapons and Self Defense, where she takes after her vampire father in speed, strength and martial instincts. Darya is hiding a secret crush on classmate Peter Girard, the extremely gifted warlock whose grandfather, Marcel, and ancestor, Theodore, engaged in full-fledged and ultimately failed warfare against the elder Cristescus. Then, a murder at their school leads to a chance spell casting that goes awry. Darya and Peter end up telepathically linked. Can Darya handle all the odd goings on in Tribane with Peter hanging around inside her head?
This book had everything that I enjoy in romantic escapism! It has the magical world building held over from the Blood Magic. It has a fanciful school offering classes in Telekinesis, Clairvoyance, Herbology and so much more. It has a forbidden romance as fated and secret as anything Shakespeare could imagine. Most of all it has a fearless heroine in Darya, who is my ideal blend of headstrong and savvy. She’s determined to participate in finding the solutions to all the latest mysteries surrounding her, despite her parents’ efforts to protect her, but she never fails to lean on their considerable knowledge and experience. This is so incredibly satisfying!
Foretold can definitely be read as a standalone. It introduces a new generation of witches, warlocks and vampires in Tribane. There is no need to read the preceding four books of the Blood Magic series because Ethan and Tegan Cristescu and their comrades are now “The Parents” and “The Teachers” at St. Bastian. However, I can’t deny that knowing their history truly added to my enjoyment of Darya and Peter’s story. I hope there will be many more books in the St. Bastian series because there are a host of fascinating classmates and a devilishly intriguing new bad guy to fantasize about!
Well first of all that is a beautiful cover. Very eye catching in black and gold, the colours let you know that it's related to the Blood Magic series but the styling is different enough to say Right we've moved on and and these are new characters. Secondly one of the characters had the rare honour of being called Angela and she is not bad, sad or weird! A major plus point for me. The story itself is still set in Tribane (l still struggle to work out what country this is supposed to be in) but it's about 20 years later, and the next generation of witches, warlocks, vampires and demons are becoming young adults, attending the school that Ethan built for them I am still in love with Ethan by the way so it was nice to see him after all this time, and being very "Dad". His daughter Darya is having problems at school and in a very Romeo and Juliet kind of way she secretly fancies a boy from the Girard family, who gave her parents so much trouble before she was born. Then a teacher is murdered and all hell breaks loose. This follows Blood Magic nicely but if you haven't read those books you can still pick this one up and enjoy it as a standalone, although it is clear at the end that there will be more to follow.
Having read and enjoyed the Blood Magic series, I was all in to dive into this spin off, and I wasn’t disappointed. This was a fun, quick read filled with great characters, both new and old, and a new threat to Tribane.
As far as Darya and Peter go, I pretty much adored them. They both have their own issues, especially when you consider who their parents are and all that they went through, but they are really good people with good hearts and seem to know who they are and what they want in life. Watching as they go from just classmates to friends to more was a lot of fun, and quite unique with the whole telepathy thing coming into play. But outside of that, they had a great flow, even when things got awkward and balanced each other out in ways I don’t think they even realized.
This book does take place quite a few years after the end of the Blood Magic series and I liked seeing the changes Tribane and its citizens have gone through. Do you NEED to read the Blood Magic series to enjoy this book? No, not really. I think you’ll be just fine, but if you want all the details on the various relationships and what went down in the war, then do it and you won’t be sorry.
Now, you all know I LOVE well written secondary characters and this baby is chock full of them. From the crew from the Blood Magic series to Darya and Peter’s friends, I was in hog heaven. I loved seeing Ethan and Teagan as parents and getting to see who Rebecca has become. But of the newbies, Ren may just be my fav but I loved Grace and am looking forward to seeing what Grace, Sophie, Belinda and Nic bring to the table in the next book!

Foretold is the first book in the new St. Bastians Institute series, a spin-off of the Blood Magic series, and it did not disappoint. It’s a star-crossed lovers story between Dayra, the daughter of Tegan and Ethan Cristescu from Blood Magic , and warlock Peter Girard, great-nephew of Marcel Girard who was the enemy of Tegan and Ethan. To say there is bad blood between the Cristescu and Girard family is an understatement but when Darya needs Peter’s help with a spell, they find a connection neither was expecting.
It is so good to be back in Cosway’s paranormal world filled with vampires, witches, warlocks, demons, spells, magic, and more. Darya and Peter attend St. Bastian’s Institute for Magic and the Supernatural. Darya is a dhampir, half human/half vampire and isn’t great at magic. Peter, however, is very gifted and when a teacher is murdered at the school, Darya needs Peter’s help to try to figure out the killer. The spell doesn’t go as planned and Darya and Peter are linked. Not only that but Darya it seems has been marked by a demon. Can Darya and Peter find the killer and the demon while navigating high school with all the drama that comes with being a teen?
Darya and Peter have a lot on their plates but this story is just the beginning. There’s magic, mayhem, and murder, and I was sucked in immediately. I loved the way they are tested and the connection they have that keeps them together. Peter is so protective of Darya and it just made me giddy when he’s around her. I love the friendship they form and the developing feelings that take root as they spend time together.
Even though the story is told from Darya’s POV, we get to see someof the things Peter is thinking through their connection. I really liked the telepathy they share and thought it was an interesting twist. I also liked the mystery and magic as well as the action that Darya and Peter face. And I can’t forget the secondary characters, nor Tegan and Ethan. I loved getting more of them and enjoyed seeing the fierce love they have for Darya as well as the openness they have for Peter.
I really enjoyed the way the story unfolds but the ending definitely leaves things open for so much more. I can’t wait to see what is in store for Darya and Peter, and I won’t lie, I’m a little nervous about the demon that marked Darya and his part in the coming books.
I will note that though it is not necessary to read the Blood Magic series first in order to enjoy this book, I do recommend reading it before because it gave me more background to this new series.
Sugary sweet YA fantasy/paranormal book that is a spin off from this authors other series. I thought it was okay. Yay for single POV fantasy reads but surprisingly the flow was still iffy, I think because the “H” (although i don’t think he’s the H) can communicate telepathically with the h.
The introduction to this series isn’t great. There’s a lot of dialogue in this one. A lot of telling verses showing. The h finds something out then she tells Peter, then grace, then Rebecca. So we get to hear everything and have it hashed out multiple times. Really, not much happened in this one. Things get established, we met a lot of characters, a romantic relationship is fully developed but it feels like not much is happening because none of it feels important except for what happens in the last 15%.
The world building isn’t great but I don’t think it matters because I’m not sure that the rest of the books are going to be happening in this current dimension. Peter and the h have a whole start to finish HEA relationship complete with “i love you’s” and a dual virgin sex scene but I don’t think he is actually the H so it felt like a lot of this book was just a waste of time.
I can’t stand Peter. He is so whimpy. Aside from the magic which he eventually shares with the h he has no major role and is just her accessory. I couldn’t feel the chemistry between them. I think it’s pretty clear that the demon mark that Visalios gave her is a mate mark so I have my fingers crossed that the author is going to go in that direction because of how bland the relationship between Peter and her is.
I received this ARC for an honest review. I am a huge fan of L.H. Cosway. Her quality of writing is amazing. She knows how to pull you into a story and to keep you engaged. She did her magic on Foretold. This is spin off of the Blood Magic series. It is about Darya who is the daughter of Tegan and Ethan. Darya attends the school that her father has started. It’s a school for supernaturals. Darya is a hybrid vampire/witch. Darya is a horrible witch. Whenever she tries any spells, it always backfires. Darya has a crush on Peter Girard who is a wizard. There is bad blood between the Cristescu‘s and Gerard’s because Ethan killed Theodore Girard who was the evil sorcerer that used to rule Tribane. When Darya was accused of killing Mr Williams, a teacher, she asked Peter for help in casting a clairvoyance spell to see if it shows who did the murder. But something went wrong. What you say? I’m not saying because you need to read the book! You don’t have to have read The Blood Magic series to enjoy this book, but I highly recommend it just because I really loved this series. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
I have been in a state of unease due to the events of this year and my ability to concentrate has been lacking. I’m happy to say this book worked it’s magic on me.
Darya and Peter are destined to be, like Romeo and Juliet, in love but not able to get one another due to a family feud. It’s so sweet and romantic the way they are secretly pining for each other. And then you have the magical aspect, and I’m all hooked. The telepathic connection is both thrilling and embarrassing.
Darya is a dhampir a mix of witch and vampire but her magic is barely working. I’m looking forward to seeing her develop in the future.
There’s so much going on and couldn’t put it down. You get both action, romance and a murder all in one. It’s a great story and we get to meet all the familiar characters from this world together with a great new cast of young people. I can’t wait to get my fangs into the next one.
I couldn’t stop reading Foretold until I reached the end. It had an energy surrounding it, its story and characters. I fell in love with Darya and Peter right away. And let’s not forget about Ren. As always, L.H. Cosway did an amazing job creating these characters. All of them are flawed and all of them are in their own way perfect because of it. Easy to relate—even though they were more than just humans. *smirk* I was more than happy to see that characters from Blood series had their more-or-less important roles in this series as well, but at the same time, they hadn’t stole the attention from the main couples—which tends to happen in many books I’ve read. Supernatural books are my cup of tea and this one was not an exception. This book will most likely move into my re-read folder soon. Now, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I received a free copy of this book and reviewed it honestly.
I loved The Blood Magic Series and have been looking forward to this spin-off, and it did not disappoint!!! I thoroughly loved being back in the world of Tribane and reading this story about Ethan and Tegan’s daughter, Darya. I can’t wait for the next installment of this new series!!!! Definitely recommend!!!!
This was a brilliant dark academia romantasy read - a bit of a hidden gem, I'd say!
Darya is a vampire from a somewhat illustrious family who attends St. Bastian's, an institute for the paranormal and magic. She has a crush on Peter, but it's immediately made clear it's a star-crossed situation type of thing - his family is the arch-enemy of hers, family members who have murdered one another, banished each other to hell realms and all that jazz. But when a spell goes wrong while Darya is trying to scrub her name clear from a murder at the school, Peter and Darya end up in each other's heads - literally! Even worse, Darya finds out that she has been "marked" by a demon who is hunting her and her friends down.
I haven't seen this book talked about online before, and it only has just over 600 ratings on Goodreads, which surprises me as it was a great story and very much in keeping with other popular books at the moment. If you like On Wings of Blood, Zodiac Academy, and Harry Potter, this will be up your street! I picked it up on a Stuff Your Kindle Day a couple of years ago, and I wish I'd picked it up sooner!
The world building was very good. I enjoyed that this world sits alongside ours quietly. The school setting was fun too - it's got all the fun of a normal high school, but with magic entwined in it including mean girls who break the rules and secret trysts in the library.
Darya and Peter's relationship was well-built and I loved their characters. The side characters were also brilliant - there are some really fun friendships and characters with deeper sides that I expect we're going to see a lot more of in the coming books.
Speaking of which, this is my only problem - I've started yet ANOTHER series! I should have finished a couple before launching into this one, but it just seemed the right season. Nevermind, at least the next two are on Kindle Unlimited!
I went into this book thinking it was going to be a YA fantasy, but there were definitely more spicy scenes than I anticipated! It wasn't hugely in depth spice, but I wouldn't be comfortable giving that to anyone under the age of 16, to be honest - this isn't a criticism at all, just a warning that if you see the young adult tag on it, you might want to be wary!
This world that LH Cosway has built is amazing, intriguing and addictive! I adored the Blood Magic series and now we have the next generation.
"It was foretold that you would be born for greatness, but now you belong to me."
Darya Cristescu is a dhampir - half-vampire and half-human witch, although she's not a particularly gifted witch. Far from it, in fact! However, her keen combat and observation skills from her vampire side more than make up for it. Peter Girard on the other hand is an excellent warlock - his family is also her family's worst enemy. However, Darya has been helplessly crushing on him for years. When their tentative friendship suddenly turns into something more intimate due to a spell gone wrong, things start to really fire up between them. Even more so, when a demonic murderer is amongst them - someone who is fixated on Darya.
"He might be your first love, but I will be your last."
This story was not only easy to read but it was absorbing, exciting and had a few surprises. I loved Darya and Peter - there was an innocence about them, as well as maturity. I loved their telepathic connection and how that really brought them closer together. I enjoyed how their relationship grew and evolved from a somewhat forbidden friendship into something beautiful, sweet and passionate. I also enjoyed meeting new characters and seeing old characters from the Blood Magic series. All the characters were well-written, the plot was well-thought-out, and we are left with a little tickle of something all together intriguing, in readiness for the next book, Thorns.
Foretold! A spin off series of the Blood Magic series! Daryra the daughter of Ethan & Tegan Cristescu is all grown up and her story is page turning fun!
I actually really liked this book. Definitely have to be into the whole supernatural thing in order to enjoy it because it’s all about vampires, witches, warlocks, demons, etc. Darya character was perfect, young girl struggling to find herself in school because she’s a mix of witch and vampire and even though she’s a strong vampire she sucks at being a witch….but that’s ironic when she falls in love with a warlock, Peter…but that’s not her only love, a demon latches on and marks her and she has to figure out why she feels connected to him even when she fights against it
Even though this wasn’t my favourite of L.H. Cosway’s books, I enjoyed Foretold. There was a bit of info-dumping at first, but it got better after a while. There was a lot of focus on the family relations, which I didn’t particularly care about, but that’s totally on me. Darya and Peter were cute together, their relationship was almost too cheesy though. In the end I didn’t love this as much as I’d hoped I would, but I’ll still read the sequels to see where the story goes.
[I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.]
Foretold is a supernatural novel and spin off of the author's The Blood series, and although I haven't read it, I had no difficulty following this story.
Supernatural romance isn't something I read often, but this story caught my eye and I didn't regret giving it a chance as I found myself immersed in a magical and supernatural world with vampires, witches, sorcerers, and demons that captured my attention until the last page.
Here we have the story of Darya and Peter whose family are rivals and we see the birth of a love story between these two characters in the midst of suspense, intrigue, mysteries and magic. I really enjoyed this story and being transported to a new dimension and still being able to read a romance that didn't disappoint. This is the first book in the series, and I will certainly return to this universe to be able to follow the story of other characters that appeared here.It was a different read than I usually read, and I loved every page of it.
Darya Cristescu is the daughter of two extremely powerful Tribane residents, and someday, her vampire/witch abilities may even rival theirs... but today is not that day.
While Darya is busy attending classes and harboring a secret crush on a warlock who might possibly despise her entire family, little does she know, that her life is about to be turned completely upside down in a matter of days...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Foretold was the intriguing introduction to a new generation of supernatural young adults who are attending the St. Bastian Institute. Darya Cristescu and Peter Girard have known each other for many years as classmates, and familial enemies, but when things start to go wrong at St. Bastian, these two will become closer than they ever bargained for...
This book was a great beginning to the new second generation, St. Bastian Institute series. We first met the parents of Darya in the fantastic Blood Magic series, and while she is still young and learning about her powers, Darya's continuing story promises to be a fascinating one.
The characters in this book were all interesting and extremely likable (well, most of them!) Darya was strong, brilliant, and a great friend, and I truly appreciated her ability to make smart decisions, time and time again. I loved the connection that she shared with Peter, and the potential that their relationship has is endless... hopefully!!
I am excited to see what comes next for Darya and friends. This book had its moments of excitement, but I think that its biggest accomplishment was to get us invested in the characters and to look to what the future may hold for Darya and her sure-to-be-complicated journey...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Foretold is the latest novel in L.H. Cosway’s paranormal world that began with the Blood Magic Series. As a reader, it was very helpful to have read those four books beforehand but not absolutely necessary. This story’s heroine is Darya, a dhampir which means she is half human and half vampire. We met her parents Ethan and Tegan in the Blood Magic Series. They return as well as several other characters from those books. Darya is eighteen and at St. Bastian Institute where she is learning to use her skills and powers. Think of it as an average high school but with additional classes such as telekinetics and weaponry. As we get to know more about Darya, we find out that she is still discovering her abilities and how to best use them for good. During that discovery we also meet Peter, our hero, a warlock who has a complicated past. Darya and Peter become friends and then much more to each other. Their bond and love for each other was a joy to read about. My favorite parts were when they were able to listen to each other’s thoughts. Peter’s support is vital to Darya as she encounters many dangerous situations including the introduction of a nefarious vampire named Vasilios. Together they survive but will need to be even stronger for what I suspect will be a thrilling second book. As always, L.H.’s brilliant writing weaves together all these elements into a fantastic read that leaves you wanting more.
My easiest 4 ⭐️ in a while! I didn’t know what this book was about or anything when I bought it, I was in a slump so bought a fair few books to get me out of it. This is the only one that really did that for me.
The writing? Are you kidding me?? Not many people can write like that, such a captivating and intriguing story, I was sold instantly! I can’t wait to read the rest of these books!
*spoilers*
The relationships and character developments in this book are done so bloody well I was spoilt for choice in who my favourite character was going to be!
I’ll start with Rebecca, because I always will relate to the older sister with the bottled up trauma and closet sexuality. I can’t wait to find out more about her and how her difficult dynamic with Grace is going to develop. I sort of hope that they both find someone else and move past it, as it seems that a relationship that complicated would be entirely too much for Rebecca.
And to the main event, Peter Girard. Be still my beating heart, what a gorgeous broody and beautiful MMC! He starts out being someone we instantly take a disliking too but it was so easy for me to slip away from that into being obsessed with how much he protects Darya. The need to look after his brothers even though his family treat him like shit? GOD, a selfless and gentle man. I adore his character!
All in all, really it was a very well executed tale of star crossed lovers and I’m here for it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An entertaining and addictive supernatural suspense If you’ve read and loved the Blood Magic series you will love this spin off novel following Ethan and Teagon’s daughter Darya. If you haven’t read the Blood Magic series you can very much enjoy Foretold as a standalone. Darya Cristescu is an 18 year old dhampir (half vampire, half human), her mum is human, but she’s also a powerful witch. Sadly she doesn’t seem to have inherited any of her mum’s skills in the magic department, she’s currently failing her magic lessons at St Bastian Institute. Someone excelling in Magic though, is her family’s enemy and secret crush Peter Girard. When circumstances (a murder in school), and a spell gone wrong push them together the story really picks up as they try to get one step ahead of demon tracking Darya. A super suspenseful supernatural read with a little added forbidden romance that was so sweet it made my heart go pitter patter. If you’re a fan of good versus evil, vampires, witches, warlocks and demons, then this could be the book for you. I loved it, an entertaining and additive story, and quite possibly one of my favourite young adult reads over the last year. A full five star read. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Paranormal city filled with warlocks, witches, vampires, and demons; Foretold is centered around St Bastian institute for paranormal young adults. Dayna is a hybrid of witch/vampire from a powerful influential family. When a professor is killed and she is framed, Dayna tries to solve the mystery with spells. Only it backfired and now has telepathic connections with her crush, Peter.
This novel is really focused on the main heroine and hero. Their chemistry is very cute. A tad enemies to lovers but just misunderstanding because they both have a crushes on each other! I’m a sucker for down-in-his-ditches lover boy with hot powers.
The murder was a tad anti-climatic and villian was apprehended too cleanly for my taste. I keep thinking there was going to be major twist or death but there wasn’t. I’m sure Vasilios is a grey villian. My thoughts is Dayna is going to solve the halfbred prejudice. I wanna know where the prophecy will go from here because that was not addressed.
Overall I enjoyed it. I’m glad it didn’t center around catty teen problems and cat fight. I also love how non cliche it was that Dayna trusted her parents with issues that came up and didn’t try to solve it on her own. Very mature.
