I’ll follow him across countries to have his back.
Why am I willing to risk everything for him?
Because of the look in his eyes when I purr for him.

After the Grimaldo incident, I live in constant fear that every job might be our last.
I have only a month left before I’m a free agent.
But what if my job doesn’t allow me to walk away? I was prepared for a fight. What I have on my hands is a war instead. A war I’ll need friends to help me fight if we want to come out of this alive.
Hook is book 2 in A Hitman's Bait series. This book is not meant to be read as a stand-alone as the series consist of the same characters and a running story arc. Expect a morally gray story with light banter, intense suspense, and an extremely romantic hitman who pampers the boy he uses as bait.

I do love Sully and Kit’s relationship, and I especially like that Sully absolutely adores Kit in every way, but I couldn’t help but be bored with this book. Nothing really happened here, which was unfortunate. I like that Sully genuinely thinks Kit is perfect, but I can’t name anything else I really find memorable in this book. I hope the next book will be a little more interesting, and that perhaps Sully and Kit will have a bit more intrigue within their relationship.
I also hope that the whole ‘hitman and bait’ plotline will pick up again, because it was totally ignored here. I truly love the dynamic where Kit lures men away while Sully then kills them, but it’s being used so little. I think there was only one minor scene that featured this dynamic here, after which they immediately took a break from it for the rest of the book. It’s such wasted potential.
Long story short, I simply was not really invested in this book and I had truly been expecting more from it.
They are two peas in a pod and love each other hard and possessively. Kit thinks he’s only a beautiful body and has nothing else to offer, Sully sees everything Kit is and much more. Sully is protective and possessive af, Kit is his main priority. Kit wants Sully alive and happy.
After the death of Grimaldo’s head of the family, Kit needs even more protection. The Grimaldo’s want revenge, Sully is afraid Kit is their main target. To escape stress Kit turns into a sexy, purring kitty, and oh boy it turns Sully on. Sully and Kit are so sexy together!!
The question is can Sully protect Kit as he wants to and is Kit as vulnerable as he looks.
There are deliciously sexy encounters, there are emotional and endearing moments, there are dangerous and exciting parts in this narrative. All super intense and well-balanced.
The story is so very entertaining, a few secondary matters are going on and those are just as great, like Sully’s business partner Liam and his love life, Sully’s family who he left to protect, and there are Javier Grimaldo and his secret partner Talon, with a relationship somewhat comparable to Sully and Kit. Oh boy, I can’t wait for the conclusion of Kit and Sully’s love story!
[I received a digital arc for an honest review] Hook is the second book in the A Hitman's Bait series by Gianni Holmes. This can not be read as a standalone so do yourself a favor and go read book one, you can thank me later.
The Handbook for Being an Assassin's Lover should have a rule that one shouldn't turn to mush simply because he called you "baby" while holding a gun
I'm going to keep my review short, sweet and very much spoiler free. Kit and Sully are both adjusting to their new relationship. Sully is just perfection with his constant devotion, patience, trust, love, and affection of Kit. He continues to be a caring Master to Kit's kitty side and embraces all aspects of Kit's personality. Kit had his faults in this one and lets his insecurities get the best of him throughout the book. He makes a few questionable decisions, but I don't question his love for Sully.
"You know I'm crazy about you, my little kitten. I've let you turn my world upside down." "I hope you never regret it." "Never."
While Hook is filled with incredibly steamy intimate scenes (I loved that we are given more time with Kit in kitty space) it also has our main characters fighting for their lives from repercussions of their actions in book 1. Hook has the same characters I fell in love with in Lure plus a few new faces that I hope stick around. I seriously enjoyed every page and can't wait for the final book in this trilogy!
The good + Sully never hiding his affection for Kit + Sully patiently reassuring Kit again and again that he is good enough + Saving the cat cafe + Sully being a total softie for the cats when nobody's watching + Kit's loyalty to Sully + Their mutual trust. Things happened on both sides that made the other wonder, but they never honestly doubted their connection or each other + Sully fucking shit up to protect his boyfriend, no matter the cost + Kit is the perfect soft counterpart to Sully's stoicism +
The neutral o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased o I'm kind of confused. Are Javier and Talon MCs from previous books? Were we supposed to know who they are? o
The bad - Kit made fun of Sully's orgasm face. I don't mind good humor between MCs, but making fun of something someone does during sex isn't funny, it just makes people insecure about something they should enjoy - Sully was a little too forgiving of Javier's torturing - No matter how much of a dick Javier's... nephew? was, he did have a point when he said Javier couldn't lead the family. Javier did not have it in him to lead those people, and it showed
I enjoyed this book more than the first, which was already good. I really dig the connection in this unlikely match, and I like the way they make it work together. I'll be reading the last book of the trilogy for sure, and would recommend it to people who like a grumpy killer going soft for his sunshine boy, and lots of cats.
Oh, no! Didn’t realize Book 2 will be continued later this year and I was all set to read more of the adventures and love story of Kit and Sully. It’s an unusual tangent that their mortal enemies end up under Sully’s roof for care and protection. Javier and Talon are good characters and it will be interesting to see where their path leads. Liam and Tack are the sly boots with hiding their affair. I’m not sure why they are doing it and I guess that will be revealed in Book 3. Looking forward to all these plot threads being woven together with the good writing of this author. I really enjoy the deep feelings that Sully has for Kit, and that Kit returns to Sully. The reader can feel their connection.
* Rereading Book 2 before beginning Book 3. This one is not as compelling as the first and has a weaker narrative, especially about the drama with Javier and Talon. It is still a good read, but I must have had Kit and Sully stardust in my eyes while reading!
Kit and Sully's story continues in book 2. I'm not sure if a story about an assassin who falls in love with the femme boy bait he used for a killing should be cute as f#ck but it is.
Kit and his kitty play, beautiful clothes and sweet, sweet heart and Sully and unapologetic protectiveness and desire to make Kit happy won my heart in Lure. They kept it in Hook.
The story is standard mafia but the side characters are interesting. Despite the occasional torture, killing, attempted rape, you know, the usual mafia stuff, I wouldn't call this dark. Maybe light grey....?
Can an assassin be a cinnamon roll? I think so cos Sully really is.
This series is a delight. Can't wait for Tackle to be released!
Full disclosure, I did not read the first book but I was not lost. It all made sense and I enjoyed this very much.
Sully and Kit were awesome together, though there were some things I did not like such as the whole being friends with the enemy, the making fun of Sully's sex face, and the whole calling Sully's mom and then lying to him.
I loved the kitty play, its so rare to get kitties and I so would read a story about a kitty and puppy playdate.
Very exciting second book with Sully and Kit! Loved seeing them growing in their love and trust! Kit has kept some things from Sully and now he is in danger. Sully is all up in his protectiveness and possessiveness of Kit and it is hot with a huge sweet soft spot in there! This is my kryptonite! Add in that Kit becomes a kitten to escape it all and I am a goner. I could not stop reading and I still need more! Sully and Kit are as hot and sensual as they come! This story has a perfect balance of suspense, action, surrounding family, friends and a whole lotta steamy love! I am glad these two are building a solid relationship and the big conflicts are outside of that people and situations! I read an arc and I have to say the best part is that each book is just a HFN plot wise as there is always more action to come. Despite the dark and difficult lives, they are living I know in my heart that Sully and Kit are forever!
Sully takes Kit on a job and it goes sideways rather quickly. But what can you expect from a hit man and a former sex worker? Sully and Kit return in another delightful adventure(?) and don’t forget Liam.
Sully wanted a different life, not one that involved killing on demand. He just wanted Kit and a quiet life. “It’d taken Kit with his blunt manners, his affectionate way with people, and his gentle yet warrior’s heart to show me what life was all about. To love and be loved in return.”
Very nicely written with great characters (even the “bad” guys were endearing). Action, bit of suspense. Kitty play was spectacularly sexy, (and the real kitties were cute too).
I enjoyed this book. It was sexy, enjoyable, and entertaining. Please read the first book in the series “Lure”. While the reader won’t be too lost starting with the second book there’s a lot of insight that will be missed, and it’s just to good to pass by.
Fantastic, Outstanding, Phenomenal!!! I’ve become so invested in Sully and Kit’s story!! Hook takes off immediately following Lure. Sully and Kit are committed to their relationship and living together. Sully is protective and possessive concerning Kit but he also lets him be his own person. Kit thrives with Sully, especially when he becomes a kitten which Sully loves. We get two new characters towards the end of this installment that I cannot wait to see where it takes the story. I loved the chemistry Liam and Tack, hoping for a little more of them also. Hook hooked me and kept me engaged until the end! Overall, a fantastic read! The story was really well written, the pacing was smooth, highly recommend.
I am loving this series. This is book 2 of 3 and you need to read them in order to understand what is going on. Sully and Kit’s relationship is getting stronger and their chemistry is off the charts. In this book, the I love yours were exchanged. Kit is an absolute delight and I love how Sully spoils him. There is lots of action and we find out more about about Liam. I also wonder how the introduction of Javier and Talon will play out more in book 3. I cannot wait for book 3.
I dig the relationship goals Sully and Kit have going on, but this book was almost too sappy for me. The story is great, people are murdered and tortured (kinda. It’s not gruesome or scary, just good story) and Sully is still a badass hitman, so I’m still into this story and these dudes. Just, not so sappy-emotive. I’d much rather feel it (like I did in book 1) than be told all about it.
What a great second book for Kit and Sully. This ends as a HFN but it’s definitely leading to some exciting places.
This book focuses on developing Kit and Sully’s relationship further, while Sully tries to keep off the radar of a drug cartel. A lot of the focus for Kit and Sully is trust. While I saw Sully put his trust in Kit, it seemed to me that Kit was keeping things from Sully fairly regularly. I didn’t love that aspect. Kit cannot expect trust from Sully if he doesn’t also extend that trust. Still, I really loved delving into the day to day of their relationship. I adore how soft Sully is for Kit. It’s so endearing. And the kitty play? So well written and so hot. When Kit wants to be a stray? Smokin’.
Once Sully is going toe to toe with the head of the cartel, Javier, things get pretty interesting. I loved the back and forth between the two and the negotiation for Kit’s return. Not gonna lie, Kit goes through some stuff in this book, but seeing a crazed Sully try to get him back and protect Kit was wonderful.
We catch up with Liam and Tack and meet Song, another boy Kit wants to save. I liked the little side stories we got about them and it makes me very curious for the future. I can’t wait to see what Holmes has in store for the conclusion of this series, but I am so excited to see where we go.
I truly can't explain to you why I enjoy this series so much. It's fun and wild but also serious. Kit is so wonderful and I love the way Sully is around him while still being an absolute killer (er. literally) otherwise. The development with Liam and Tack was the least surprising thing ever, but I'm glad it's finally being addressed. Super curious how things are going to turn out with Sully's family. Will have to wait patiently for book three, I guess!
re-read: still enjoyable. read to refresh my memory for book three. can't wait to hopefully finally get those answers!
This is the second book in A Hitman’s Bait series and we start right where we left of in the first book. I finished the book in two days’ time, it’s a really nice read and the story has a quick pace. There were a couple of tense moments, but never for long. There’s a triggers warning in the beginning of the book, so you can check that before you start reading. Personally, I would have liked a bit more action/adventure, but this is not that kind of story, so I can’t really complain ;)
Kit and Sully are just so sweet to another, even though they keep questioning if they are really good enough for the other. I really dislike the keeping of secrets, especially when the characters know it will never turn out well. It’s only human I suppose, but I think it was a bit out of character and mainly there to create extra tension. I kind of whished the author had thought of something else to create the tension.
One strange thing I have to remark upon: the prologue of the story is told from the point of view from a third character, whom we will encounter later in the story. That’s not the strange part. The whole story is told through Kit’s or Sully’s point of view. Except one chapter, near the end, where all of a sudden, we return to the person from the prologue. Weird! Now, don’t get me wrong, the story continues at the same pace, but it really threw me off because I was invested in Sully/Kit and I had to do a mental recalibration. It felt like the author was kind of forcing this character on me and I didn’t like it. (Even though I did like the story line/character from this character, I felt it would be better told in another story.
There’s no cliff-hanger at the end of the story, although it did feel kind of abrupt for me. To me, there were still a couple of things which needed to be solved in this book before we are jumping into the next one. I do expect these questions to be answered/the issues addressed in the next book and can’t wait for the book to come out.
Overall, this was a really nice read, not too much angst, lots of sweet moments and a quick pace!
I wasn't sure anything could top the explosive first chapter of Sully and Kit's adventure, but this story was even steamier and more suspenseful than the last! These characters have already secured a place in my heart, and watching as they navigated sticky situation after sticky situation was both entertaining and terrifying. I adored seeing all the little ways Kit and Sully grew closer together as lovers, and while their relationship was rock solid the entire time, I still found the pacing and build of their romance satisfying. Sully absolutely showered Kit with gifts and sweet dates, and holy heck did the two of them set the sheets on fire when they took each other to bed. I never doubted in the trust and loyalty Kit and Sully shared, and this story showcased exactly how far they would go to keep each other safe and happy. The hitman storyline picked up steam in a significant way, and I was completely captivated by the twists and turns along the way. Sully and Kit got themselves in multiple fight-or-flight situations, and every time I found myself desperate to see the two of them back in each other's arms. Their journey definitely took a darker turn than it did in the previous book, but I never lost faith that the two of them would find their way out of the chaos. I also found myself surprisingly invested in the fate of not just Liam and Tack, but also two new side characters who *need* to get their own happily ever after. Kit and Sully may have ended this story with a temporary truce, but I get the sense that they're on the brink of an even bigger turf war that has to get resolved before they can ride off into the sunset together.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
This book essentially picks up where Book 1 left off following the death of crime boss Ivan Grimaldo at the hands of hitman Sully (38) and his associate/boyfriend Kit (20). This is still their ongoing story, but the Prologue is from the POV of Ivan's brother and successor Javier, aka Sully's new enemy and biggest threat. Leading off the story with a secondary character who isn't yet really known was an interesting choice, as was returning to their POV toward the end.
Like Book 1, most of this book - about the first 70% - focuses on Sully and Kit's hot and heavy k¡nky relationship and their intense utter devotion to each other. (If kitty pet play is your jam, I'd highly recommend this series.) There's a lot of time spent on the kitty play, between the sheets, the cat cafe, and even Kit's dramatics about Sully's housekeeper, most of which honestly felt like a distraction from the main "hitman" storyline, given the mounting danger from the Grimaldos.
But, the danger and suspense really picks up in the last 30% or so, and it's so worth reading the whole book just to that last bit because it's terrific. Not only does it come with a surprising twist, but it sets the stage for what I hope will be a wild ride to conclude the series in Book 3.
Another aspect I really enjoyed here was the time given to Sully's amusing business partner Liam and Kit's friend Tack, who make an interesting couple. I look forward to seeing more of them, and of Javier and and his boyfriend/enforcer Talon, in Book 3. I received an advance reading e-copy of this book and have left this honest review voluntarily. (Also read in KU.)
This is the continuation of Lure (the first book of this series) and it must be read in order to really enjoy and understand the ongoing story. Kit and Sully are settling and adjusting to their new life (especially Kit). Their relationship is growing stronger but still as hot and steamy🔥🥵. Kit does not have it easy this book since their (Sully and Kit's) past actions comes back to haunt them, even if they were justifiable. And it breaks my heart cause Kit just escaped a cruel world of abuse. I wanted to join Sully in hurting the people who dared to touch his boy. But Kit is strong and has a huge heart which Sully loves about him. Sully will do anything to protect and not let anything taint Kit's sweet and caring nature. And boy did Sully have his work cut out for him with an unknown enemy, too many coincidences messing up their "work" plans, and Kit in caught in the middle of it all. Liam was there to help Sully .... or was he really "helping" him? And then Liam's secret that Sully discovers had me screaming and hooting, I want and need to know more of that!! Two new characters are also introduced, Javier and Talon, which catch my interest from the start. I love their role in the story, not all is what is seems. And can't wait to see how much more of a role they'll play in the next book. As with the first book, this story had a little bit of everything...suspense, action, humor, sweet/tender moments and some very steamy/hot moments. I am now anxiously waiting for Tackle. I can't wait to see how this addicting series concludes.
There is nothing the two main characters won’t do for each other, but the world is out to make them prove it in the worst possible way. Danger lurks, and it’s proving difficult to figure out where all the threats are coming from.
Kit’s and Sully’s story starts in “Lure,” and it’s essential to read that book first. All aspects of the plot in “Hook” tie back to events in Lure. Sure, the author gives some background information as she goes, but it is clear she never intended for “Hook” to stand on its own. That said, I loved “Lure,” and I urge anyone who thinks “Hook” sounds intriguing to read both books.
“Hook” is explosive. Heat burns between Kit and Sully and melts eReaders even as the way they love each other is tooth-rotting-ly sweet. Everything between them is scorching and emotional. I loved reading every moment between them.
Of course, wickedly scorching scenes aren’t the only things that make “Hook” explosive. Violence stalks the couple and their allies through the pages. There are forces at play that want to see Kit’s and Sully’s lives burned to the ground and they will use any means to get what they want. The plot is exciting and a little stressful. It kept me turning the pages for sure!
I recommend “The Hitman’s Bait” series to anyone who loves morally gray characters in books made of sugar and spice and everything nice and hot!
This is Book 2 of 3 so make sure to read Book 1 first.
Man...this was a wild ride and I could not put this book down. I really do love Kit and Sully's relationship. Since this is a trilogy, many of the plot points from Book 1 continue in this book. We get to see Sully and Kit continue to learn how to be a couple and we see them exchange "i love yous". I'm so very thankful that all of the drama is outside of the relationship. It's so pleasant to see a couple grow stronger in commitment and love rather than continue to question, miscommunicate, or break up. They don't have a perfect relationship, but it feels like a real one. And man is their kitty play time hot. 🥵
Liam drove me crazy in this installment. There were several times that he was out of line with Tack and Kit. Some of the things he said made me want to throat punch him, but he did redeem himself at the end.
We see a lot more of the Grimaldo family and an extension of the drama from killing Ivan Grimaldo. I loved the addition of Javier and Talon and am so happy we get to see more of them in Book 3. I am not sure that I completely trust Luigi Pinelli (Sully's boss) and think he may be more involved in what happened with the Grimaldo family than we think. I am very interested in seeing where this takes us in book 3.
The action in this book was phenomenal and it made me appreciate Gianni's ability to craft an interesting, action-packed story that is still driven by the plot. I cannot wait for Tackle!
I received an ARC from Gianni Holmes for my honest review
I liked this even more than the first book. I love Kit and Sully together and the sex is so hot and kinky. What I love about this story is that even though Sully has to work for Pinelli and jobs are starting to go wrong due to their taking out Ivan Grimaldo you spend time watching Kit and Sully's relationship deepening and falling in love. I want to go a place like Kitty Krave and of course Sully saves the business for Kit. Kit is drugged at the club and is rescued just in time by Sully and his struggle to recover was painful to watch. I was glad that Sully hunted down the man who drugged him and almost raped him and forced him to snort all of his cocaine. The most suspenseful part was when Kit goes to see Song, who had also worked for Nolan and found Nolan and Talon, Javier Grimaldo's lover waiting for him. In his desperate bid to escape he was smart hitting the fire alarm and I was glad that Nolan broke his neck on the stairs. Then Sully captures and tortures Talon and Javier does the same to Kit but then he saves Kit from an attack from one of his men. Kit is helped to escape by Javier and Javier is badly hurt and Sully can't believe that Kit wants him to save Javier. They have an uneasy truce and now I can't wait for the next story. Loved Tack and Liam!
Kit is determined to stick with the man he loves and is quite happy to keep his deadly secrets. What he didn't expect was to have to jump out of a two-storey building but he did all for the look in Sully's eyes when he purrs for him. Sully is torn - working with Kit is both his greatest joy but also his worst nightmare as Kit often lets love cloud his judgement. However, he can't be mad at him as his kind heart is one of the reasons he loves him. Sully can't be angry at him as after the Grimaldo incident he worries that every job might be his last. When past deeds catch up with them, will Sully be able to keep Kit safe or watch him suffer?
I really enjoyed this part of their story where their relationship deepened and Kit came into his own as a member of the team. I loved the way that Kit was able to give Sully some good arguments on why his way would be better and that he was able to add a dose of humanity to their jobs. Some of Kit and Sully's interactions are just smoking hot. It was also nice to see that Liam got some more interaction and a bit of happiness too. Easy to read, feel and understand. Contains MM sexual content including some BSDM-like pet play and exhibitionism.
Sully and his Kitty are even more adorable and deadly
This continues from on Lure, which you should read first for proper context, and Kit and his assassin have to deal with the fallout of what happened at the end of the first book. Sully is even more in love with his beautiful little Kit Kat, and Kit is so happy with his Sully, but they are not safe because someone is after revenge and is determined to use any means to get to the truth and get payback. Liam continues to make me laugh, and I'm looking forward to seeing him with his mystery 'booty call'. Song is practically writing his own story with his hospital visits and I hope Gianni is going to help him tell that story. Javier and Talon are complex and wonderful and I wish they had their own story but I think that's not possible now because we've already come in to their relationship in the middle of it. I'm hoping that they will play a part in the next book because I need more of them. A wonderful, sexy, bloody, incredibly satisfying book that I loved from first word to last.
First of all I am so obsessed with Sully his love and devotion we’re just *chef’s kiss* I think I had a little bit of a harder time with Kit because of some of his choices but together they were fire and passion personified! I loved that there was more kitty play in this story and whew sully and kit were absolutely scorching together!
I will admit that I was a little confused by Javier and Talon and I can’t remember if we got to know them at all in the first book probably because of the time in between that release and this one. I definitely prefer that an ongoing story have closer releases because I read so much it’s really hard to remember all the details from the previous book/books if the releases are months apart.
I do think the author did a good job (like the first one!) not making me mad about where this book ended but I am really looking forward to the last book!!
Dang you Gianni Holmes for ripping out my heart! I definitely wasn't ready for this roller coaster of emotions! This is the second book in the series and picks up where Lure left off. Sully and Kit are still settling into domestic bliss and trying to iron out some wrinkles with living with someone new. This book is full of love, devotion, steam, suspense, action and drama making it a definite page-turner. Besides the wonderful couple in the center there are great characters, and cats🐈🐈⬛😊❤, that float around their lives. Of course my favorite being Liam, when he has teasing banter with Kit it makes me laugh and Sully finally seeing him with his "booty-call". I love when Sully calls Kit, Kit Kat!! The book ends in a HFN and I can't wait to read Tackle to finish off the trilogy. I hope that Gianni will write a spin-off book with Geoff and Song being the main couple.
**received an ARC from the author for leaving my honest review**
This is the second book in A Hitman's Bait series and is the continuing story of Sully and Kit as they manage their way around their relationship and Sully's job as a professional hitman.
I am absolutely loving this series!! Kit is the perfect foil to Sully's serious demeanor and dangerous profession. On the other hand, Sully keeps Kit grounded and safe. They're a perfect pair! When you add in the found family of Liam (Sully's loyal and stoic partner), Tack (Kit's driver and friend), and Song (a fellow former prostitute that Kit rescued) the story really can't get much better!
While I am normally a low / no angst reader, the angst in this series is just the right amount! Because of Sully's job and the danger he and Liam face, conflicts abound. But, there is a happy-for-now ending. Which is just right!
