1.5 stars, personally. You know, scratch that rating. I'm working on typing up my review and it's a one. I did not like it. Nell the Beagle deserved better, but most pups do with their unconditional love.

(Also, his muscles were described as "sinewy" and "ropey". Lord help me, I can't. )

Thoughts:
As a beagle mom, I was here for the beagle and the beagle only in this story. And really, that’s truly all I liked about this book, unfortunately.

Harlow wasn’t the smartest law enforcement agent I’ve read about, that’s for sure. When she pulled over to change a flat tire in a place she knows the serial killer has recently been, she let her guard down. She has a gun but didn’t have it on her, so that part was a bit ridiculous.

I thought it was also ridiculous that she felt like she had to prove herself on the team when she becomes a target of the possible serial killer—twice. Girl, your own safety is important too! She’s afraid that she’ll get kicked out of the group for her own protection and prays that it’s “not fair” to God. She acted like she was a teenager at times and it was very annoying.

We’re constantly being told that she’s a trained police officer and a professional and can do her job, but, honestly, we haven’t seen much of that. Honestly, it would have made more sense if she wasn’t law enforcement and just a girl from his past with her dog because she never acted professional in her reactions.

This book was 70% focused on their romance and their failed relationship and history, rather than the suspense of finding a killer. The romance parts were very dramatic and was incredibly distracting for their mission.

We get teased a lot with their history with being told some of the details about the fallout but not the actual details of what happened. She actually knows the exact number of days since their blow up. (Eight years, five months, and ten days, to be exact.)

There was also mentions of a young child being murdered that honestly just broke my heart. While it does unfortunately happen, it’s not something I’d like to ever read about without a heads up to be able to prepare myself the best I can about such a topic.

I’m really bummed that this book was such a miss for me because the beagle on the cover and in the plot. I won’t recommend it for BFCG’s ages because of their romantic attraction, lack of faith moments, & the topic of a murdered child.

Updates while reading:
pg.11 - I’m here for the beagle and the beagle only. 🐶

pg.35 - Barely made any progress in this book because the main girl has a chip on her shoulder the size of Alaska, but three thoughts so far:
1.) The word “perp” was used 3 times in the 1st chapter & 5 times in the 2nd.
2.) We are teased a lot with their history but not what happened.
3.) …she seriously knows the exact number of days since their blow up. (Eight years, five months, and ten days, to be exact.)

Altra veloce lettura e stavolta giunge a conclusione uno dei tre misteri che si sono dipanati lungo tutta la serie: evviva. Mi è particolarmente piaciuta l'ambientazione nel parco di Yellowstone.

Tracking a Killer was a compelling story that I could hardly set down! Almost from the very beginning there was danger lurking in the wilderness of the park. Knowing that there was a serial killer most likely on the loose in Yellowstone and that he seemed determined to abduct Harlow added amazing tension to the story.

Another source of amazing tension was of the romantic variety! Harlow and Wes had a backstory together that consisted of a relationship gone wrong. I liked that the two of them attempted to push past their discomfort in order to work together. They did a good job of being professional, even though Wes found it more and more difficult to stop his feelings for Harlow as he tried to stop the killer from getting his hands on her.

I wish the book had an epilogue, as it ended too abruptly for me. However, I was still satisfied with the happily ever after for the characters. This book is part of a continuity series by various authors and although I have not read any of the other stories, I was able to enjoy this novel on its own.

(4.5 stars)

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Can I say again just how thrilled I am that this continuity series is available in audio edition as well as the usual paperback and ebook? I've got them all lined up on my preorder shelf on audible and get such a kick when I get the notification that one has become available. Does that sound weird? Probably, but, I can't stop the bibliophile fangirling! Great narration by Amanda Nolan enhanced my enjoyment of this spectacular romantic suspense.

Elizabeth Goddard knows how to write suspense. How to draw out the creep factor without going over board. How to plant clues and red herrings in a twisty turn plot that keeps me breathless with anticipation. And she really knows how to create a dynamic love story in the midst of all the danger and chaos. To say I was captivated all the way through is an understatement.

Love the reunion romance aspect to the story. Harlow and Wes have an interesting past -- academy rivals on the verge of something so much more until it self-destructed. But they've both picked up the pieces, dedicating themselves to their law enforcement careers. Relationships and romance? Not a chance...until...

Squeeallll! Such a great romance fraught with emotion. To come face to face again as part of a make-or-break career case...well, the pressure is on and I was so there for it!

Really enjoyed the Yellowstone National Park setting -- my second book in a row set in a park. There's something about the wilderness location that amps up the suspense in these books and the environment is so different from my citified life that I find it intriguing.

And, of course, shout out to beagle Nell. Her sweet nature belies her rather grim job -- cadaver dog. I've really enjoyed reading about the different types of working K-9s that law enforcement uses in this series. Love learning a little somethin' while I'm being entertained!

Tracking a Killer is the sixth book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 unit series but it can be read as a standalone. Each book has its own unique location and mystery while a common suspense thread is loosely woven throughout. Each author does a great job of keeping readers up to date on the over arcing suspense plot though, so you could easily leap in at any point in the series and not feel lost.

Tracking A Killer, Elizabeth Goddard’s contribution to the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series, starts off with a bang…of a flat tire and an attempted abduction.
Officer Harlow Zane and her K-9 cadaver dog partner, Nell, are called to fly to Yellowstone National Park to assist the FBI. They are investigating a series of abductions taking place in different Rocky Mountains parks. One victim was found dead, and now Harlow and Nell were called to assist the task force for help with the newest victim.
FBI Special Agent Wes Grey is leading the task force. He’s also Harlow’s ex-love from the academy. After a training exercise gone wrong, and a huge public fight, they went their separate ways. Seeing each other again after all this time is bringing up unresolved and uncomfortable feelings for both of them. Feelings thought long-gone…or at least long-buried.
As they work together to catch a killer, can their trust in the Lord help each of them to learn to trust one another? You will definitely want to find out in this fantastic entry to this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

Tracking a Killer was the story I most looked forward to reading in this series. The cover is adorable and I love beagles. :D While the story was enjoyable and I loved the dog, it was a little difficult to believe the way everything happened. I liked the romance, though, and how it was a second chance romance. All in all, I liked the book.

Tracking A Killer ( Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit #6 )
Elizabeth Goddard
Tracking A Killer is the sixth book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit. A good story with lots of action. I was drawn in at the start and could not put it down. This is Harlow and Wes’s story. I also loved Nell, A K-9 cadaver dog, who did her part well. A search for a killer is under way. Will they find the killer before it is too late? If you love a goodI Inspiration Suspense, with some romance, then Elizabeth Goddard has the book for you. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

A good story with lots of action! K-9 officer Harlow Zane is on her way to a crime scene with her dog Nell, a cadaver detection dog. Someone tries to abduct her but she manages to get away and proceeds to the scene in Wyoming. There she meets FBI Special Agent Wes Grey who she will be working with. They have some past together and she is not sure they will be able to work together but she needs this to advance. As they search for the missing women someone keeps trying to grab Harlow. what is going on? Wes is trying to protect her but will he succeed? do they have a serial killer on their hands or what? Where are the missing women?

TRACKING A KILLER by Elizabeth Goddard is the sixth book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. It’s the exciting, adventure filled, often times dangerous story of Harlow Zane – member of the Rocky Mountain K-9 Mobile Unit that’s under contract with the FBI, Nell – Harlow’s K-9 partner a beagle specialized in cadaver detection, and FBI Special Agent Wes Grey as they meet up in Yellowstone National Park for their current assignment.

Several woman have been reported missing while either working at or vacationing in different national parks. All the woman seem to have blonde hair, blue eyes and to be in the 20’s. Only one body has been found and the latest report of someone missing is Park Ranger Cassidy Leidel who was working in Yellowstone. Their job is to see if they can find Cassidy, find the connection in these cases, if there is one, and if at all possible find and arrest the person involved in these crimes.

Harlow is excited to have been assigned to the team feeling it will be a great way to show that both her and her K-9 can be a very useful tool in hunting down evidence, bodies and possible the criminals themselves. Imagine her shock when she walks in to the first meeting to find the person in charge is none other than Wes - a man she went to the academy with, was romantic with and the one that caused her to she feels she must constantly prove herself worthy. To say they left on unfriendly terms is an understatement, but she loves her job and with determination will remain professional in order to succeed in her assignment.

Wes was both shocked and thrilled to see Harlow, but can’t help but wonder how she ended up in the K-9 field. He was always a go getter with the end goal in mind – sometimes regardless of how he had to get there. That was in his youth, but now with maturity he knew that plans sometimes had to take a back seat for things - like family responsibilities. His mother having suffered a stroke meant he had to turn down the job he’d been working for so long to get, but succeeding on this assignment would put him back on the right path again. He can’t help but notice how lovely Harlow is causing his mind to shift into the “what if” territory. He is a professional and will act accordingly. He just has to keep reminding himself of that from time to time.

Before Harlow even arrived at her destination, it’s possible she may have already had a run in with the perpetrator they are searching for. She had a flat and pulled off the road to fix it. While changing to the spare, someone grabbed her from behind and tried to haul her off. Training and instinct had her fighting back. As he fled, she notice that she must have injured the person’s arm with the tire tool she had swung. Did the fact that she had blonde hair, blue eyes and was in her 20’s play a part in it?

Through the next few days, she seems to remain on this abductor’s target with more attempts to nab her with each one getting more daring. Will her luck hold out or will he eventually succeed? Can Wes and the whole team keep her safe? Is determination enough? Will moving around get her off his radar? How does he seem to always be one step ahead of them? Does being together 24/7 have old feelings resurfacing or is it completely different this time? How could they possible have a relationship – even if they wanted it – when they work in completely different areas of the country? In the end, will love when out – in more ways than one?

TRACKIN A KILLER is a fabulous, page-turning story full of the perfect mixture of suspense, danger and romance. You can’t help but fall in love with Nell and pull for a happily ever after for Harlow and Wes. Elizabeth Goddard delivers on all of it! Love that it’s set in one of national parks. Having been to Yellowstone myself, I can tell you that the author did her research and it’s very accurate to the details of the park. So much so that on my next visit, I will be keeping my eye out for dark movement in the shadow and be on my guard. Love it! Although part of a series, it can most definitely be read as a standalone book, but it’s an excellent addition to this series. It was definitely FIVE STAR reading for me!

MY RATING GUIDE: 4 Stars. TRACKING A KILLER was a captivating suspense novel I enjoyed while walking over the course of a couple of days.

(1=DNF/What was that?; 2=Not for me; 3=Ok; 3.5=I enjoyed this; 4=I REALLY ENJOYED THIS; 5=I really loved this! 5 is rare for me).

A mobile unit of combined law enforcement jurisdictions has been spending months searching for a man suspected of killing women in the
national park system across several state lines. He is presently thought to be in the in Rocky Mountain area since the recent disappearance of the fifth victim - another blond-haired, blue-eyed woman - one of the rangers at Yellowstone National Park. All the women victims were active and comfortable outdoors.

Denver based Harlow Zane and her cadaver dog Nell are part of a special mobile unit under contract with the FBI. Harlow, blond-haired & blue-eyed and in her mid 20’s, has been called to search specific areas and buildings within Yellowstone National Park as the fifth victim, a female Ranger from the park, is missing.

Upon joining the Evidence Response team, Harlow is stunned to discover that the mobile task force leader FBI agent Wes Grey is a man she met and knew very well 8yrs ago at the FBI academy. After graduation they each went their own directions but evidently Wes Grey stayed with the FBI. This is a big case. Harlow wants to help bring closure for the families of the lost women while she still hopes the latest victim lives. The killer must be caught and stopped. What can she contribute to make this possible?

TRACKING A KILLER by Elizabeth Goddard is bk 6 in the Inspirational Suspense 9book anthology The Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. It was well written, moved quickly and kept my interest to the end. I listened to the audiobook format; Cindy Kay’s performance was very good. My audio consisted of 3 books (4-6) in the 9 book series which contains both an over reaching series arc and individual conflicts and plots in each book. Although I was obviously missing certain pieces in the series arc (from bks 1-3), TRACKING A KILLER actually dealt with one of the cases that was a major part of the series arc (as well as this story’s plot). I appreciated that TRACKING A KILLER brought partial closure, of a sort, to the series ongoing conflicts.

Of books 4, 5 & 6 (Undercover Assignment, Defending from Danger, Tracking a Killer), TRACKING A KILLER was my favorite. But I will probably listen to all 3 again sometime in the future (as they are all part of a set). I will watch for sales for the other books in this series as well.

As I finished the last book in my audio trio pack, it occurred to me that K-9 trained dogs each have their own specialties. Some guard or protect, others are trained to sniff explosives, drugs, clothing and other items. Harlow’s dog Nell, as a cadaver dog, could sniff and identify blood but wasn’t trained to pick up the former mentioned smells in a suspects possession. This provided a clearer comprehension of the complexities involved for K-9 officers with their K-9 partner. The dogs can only pick up what they have been trained to discover. Even if something dangerous or illegal is hidden away nearby.

Tracking a killer by Elizabeth Goddard is book #6 in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit. Although I have read a lot of her books, I have never read The Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series, but I’ll be reading the first books soon. I really enjoyed getting know Wes, Harlow, and Nell. Harlow Zane is a k-9 handler with her k-9 cadaver dog Nell. She’s called to Yellowstone National Park to help with an investigation looking for a serial killer. She never expected to find FBI Special Agent Wes Grey leading the team. Wes Grey and Harlow were FBI academy rivals & former sweethearts. Unfortunately for Harlow, she has other problems besides working with her former beau. Blonde hair and blue eyes are what the serial killer is looking & she fits the bill to a t. After numerous attempts to capture her, Wes and Harlow must find a way to catch the killer before she ends up in the grave.

I really liked their story. I had never read a story about k-9 cadaver dogs that were beagles. It was an interesting twist. I love stories about dogs & Nell captured my heart. There as a lot of action and suspenseful moments. You won’t want to put the book down. I loved the ending despite no epilogue. I’m not sure you could write an epilogue with the series going on for another 2 books. I hope in the next few books, we get to find out what happens to Harlow, Wes, and Nell. I cried at the end. It has the sweetest ending. I loved this quote near the end of the book. Wes tells Harlow, “I hope you know that I’m not that foolhardy stubborn man anymore.” And Harlow responds, “Even if you are, I don’t care.” It summed up the whole book and how God loves all of us. I really enjoyed this book & I think you will too. I was given a copy by the author, but all opinions are my very own!

Tracking a Killer by Elizabeth Goddard is the sixth book in the Love Inspired Suspense Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series.

Harlow and her cadaver dog Nell are called in to help an FBI join task force with a missing person case. Women with blonde hair and blue eyes are going missing in the Rocky Mountain parks and one of the women has turned up dead. Fearing a serial killer situation, they want to find the most recent victim before it’s too late.

Two things complicate this search: first is that Harlow and the Task Force leader, FBI Agent Wes Grey, have an explosive past, and two, Harlow matches the description of every victim of taken so far. This combination, not to mention the twists and turns of the case itself, adds drama and suspense so that I didn’t want to put the book down. I also love K-9s and Nell is a wonderful part of the story.

If you haven’t read the rest of the series, this book can stand alone. However, it is part of an over-arching story line so that if the series is read all together, it would add depth, particularly with Harlow and Nell since we’d have seen them in other situations. Nevertheless, if you enjoy suspense with a mix of enemies-to-lovers romance, plus an adorable, sweet-natured K-9 working dog, then I recommend grabbing a copy of Tracking a Killer.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC guidelines.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Tracking a Killer. This is book six in the continuity series, Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit. I was thrilled to receive this book. Elizabeth is one of my favorite authors. I'm a big fan of hers. This book is awesome, it's well-written, action-packed, and full of intrigue. I really enjoyed this next segment of the story.

Rocky Mountain K-9 Officer Harlow Zane and her partner, Nell join in the investigation for a serial killer. Nell is a cadaver dog and this is their first high-profile case. As she's driving to the meeting place of the task force she has a flat tire. She finishes loosening the lug nuts when she is attacked. She hits the attacker with the lug wrench and he flees. When she arrives she finds the last man she ever wanted to see again.

FBI Special Agent Wes Grey is shocked to see Harlow, a rival from the FBI Academy. Eight years ago they had a public break up and Harlow had left the academy. He hears of her attack and realizes she is the same type as the killer's victims. Can they work together to find this man? Can he keep her safe without losing her or his heart?
A terrifying journey to find a serial killer in the mountains. God has a plan for these two broken souls, a good plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction even in this time of political unrest and chaos. Give HIm your heart and watch Him move in your life.

Harlow and Nell, her K-9 cadaver dog are a great team! They are called into a national park as part of a task force to look for the remains of a woman ranger who has gone missing and presumed dead. She might be a serial killer's victim so the task force leader, FBI Agent, Wes Grey, wants to see what has happened to this ranger. He is stunned when the K-9 officer turns out to be Harlow. He and Harlow had a relationship back in their academy days at the FBI and it didn't end well. They haven't seen each other since. When Harlow turns out to be the exact physical description of what the serial killer is looking for, that puts her in the crosshairs! I really liked all the characters in this story. I love K-9 books and am constantly amazed at their capabilities! As with any Elizabeth Goddard book, there is a lot of action and suspense. Even when you know who the killer is, you wonder how he will be caught! I love the process of how these killers are stopped! An excellent read.

This love inspired suspense book had lots of action, suspense, and clean romance that I really enjoyed!

FBI Special Agent Wes and Police Officer Harlow, along with her canine dog Nell are traveling to different Rocky Mountains parks to find a serial killer before they strike again. Unfortunately Harlow meets the description of the other women with blonde hair and blue eyes and is immediately targeted.

I liked learning about what cadaver canine dogs do and how they help their police units. I love the element of working k9 dogs in this series.

I also liked the main characters Wes and Harlow and getting to know some of their team members. I liked seeing them mature and work together professionally while trying to get past what happened at the academy when they were younger.

I really enjoyed reading this thrilling book and highly recommend! I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Where is the serial killer focusing on blondes at state parks going to strike next? Will K-9 officer Harlow Zane's cadever dog find the missing ranger, and will she still be among the living? Will her former co-worker, FBI special agent Wes Grey, be a help or a hindrance (or both) to this case? And is she the killer's next target?

"Tracking a Killer" by Elizabeth Goddard is a nail-biting suspense story. This is the sixth part of an eight part series, but even though the serial killer has been mentioned through the series, you don't need to read the previous stories to be terrified ... I mean to enjoy this thrilling book. The characters are compelling, and the plot will keep you guessing.

Now the big question - is it a coincidence that the main characters' last names are Zane and Grey? Is this an attempt to draw in Western novel fans?

Back to being serious. This is a well-written novel, as the rest of the series is, and I really enjoyed it.

Canine assistance finding a murderer and love

Harlow has something to prove. She and her cadaver dog, Nell, are called in to help when a possible serial killer is abduction blonde blue eyed women in national parks and murdering them. She is shocked when she sees Wes is in charge of the FBI team at Yellowstone. Wes, who she went thru FBI training with and had romantic feelings for. Their break up was hard on them both. All Harlow wants to do is to find and stop the killer and Wes is determined to maintain a professional approach to working together...until blonde, blue eyed Harlow becomes the killer's next target. This is a fast paced, sometimes frightening story. Nell, the wonderful beagle, who has been trained to find bodies adds a level of warmth and affection to the story. I love Goddard's well written mysteries, Christian values, and sweet, clean Romance. Highky recommended.

A dog plays a big part in my life and I thoroughly enjoy stories that feature them. The Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit is just one of those series you don’t want to miss.

There is lots of suspense, perhaps a time of holding your breath and maybe even sitting on the edge of your seat as you read about Harlow and her sweet dog, Nell, who is a cadaver dog. With missing persons all bearing a resemblance to her, Harlow has just another reason to find this perpetrator before more bodies are found.

This early copy was received through Love Inspired Suspense and Harlequin Enterprises. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

Throughout this entire series, the K-9 Unit has been trying to figure out who has been targeting blonde women with blue eyes. Now, Harlow and her cadaver dog, Nell, have been sent to help with the search for a missing park ranger in Grand Canyon National Park. When Harlow has to stop on the way to change a tire, she is nearly abducted - because she happens to have blonde hair. When she reaches the site where her services are required, she discovers that the FBI agent in charge of the task force is her old boyfriend from the FBI Academy...and they didn't exactly end their relationship on a good note. Will they be able to work together?

I have enjoyed the Love Inspired K-9 series because I find it interesting to see the tasks the dogs can perform. In this novel, Nell is a K-9 cadaver dog, a beagle, brought into a situation to find a grave. There is also the reunion of a couple who had been involved with each other several years before. There is much suspense as they search for a serial killer who is targeting blond, blue-eyed women in wilderness settings. One of the main characters, Nell's handler, fits the physical description of the women being targeted, and the setting is near Yellowstone in Wyoming. The action in this book is fast-paced and never boring.

This latest book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series does not disappoint. If you haven't read any of the series, this book is a "stand alone" read but you will want to read the others after you've read this one! This book has it all - complex characters and relationships (including a dog), lots of heart-stopping suspense, and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing what is going to happen (and who is the bad guy) until the very end. And who can resist sweet Nell the K-9 who has a personality all her own. I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.

Second Chances

The hero and heroine had met at the FBI Academy where they became very close. Due to a misunderstanding they went their separate ways after graduation. Years later there is a serial killer preying on women. The heroine along with Nell her K-9 cadaver dog is contacted to be a part of the task force. Guess who the leader of the task force is? This story has kidnapping, attempted murder, murder, and two people that never stop caring for each other. Will they put their differences aside to take this second chance.

bad guy smarter than cops

I am six books into this 9 book series and was disappointed in this one. Besides getting a bit repetitive on plots - same story different location and different characters. In this book, the perpetrator outsmarts the FBI, the police, the rangers, over and over. The emphasis was more on the developing relationship between two characters and left a lot lacking in the particulars of the crime, the development of the case, the interagency communication, etc.

Another story in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit. Harlow Zane is with her K-9 partner, Nell. She's a beagle who who is has been trained to scent the smell of death, find bodies for the FBI. Harlow has joined the force in Denver and has been sent to another troop to help find a serial killer. When she arrives, the head detective is a man she knew when she was in FBI training. They were a couple but as they graduated and grew apart she transferred.
It's #6 in the series and is another excellent suspense read. Do enjoy this one!

Each of the books in this series features at least one handler and one K9 working dog. If the handler is female, she either volunteers or is given an assignment that involves an eligible male, and vice-versa. The books aren't horrible but they weren't great either. I was disappointed that the dogs generally weren't given much to do that was relevant to their training but this book was different. The dog in this book actually played an active role as a sniffer dog!

The handler in this book was Harlow Zane and the dog was Nell, a beagle.

Great Read! Fast, paced, Grabs the reader and pulls them into the middle of a multileveled investgation: dead bodies, missing children, Heroes at risk, mayhem in the workplace, romance, intregue, suspence. This book has it all! A must read, but it is part of a series and I suggest you start with the first in the series of Rocky Mountain K-9 You got to love a story with a heroic dog! Highly recommended!
