Knowing that this one is from the same universe as CLS made me excited but I loved how the names were familiar but no part was ever too familiar. It was like reading from the eyes of a distant character in CLS. There wasn't even a time that the timeline was confusing. It fell right to where it was supposed to be. From Sage and Pietro's high school banters, to the days where they were slowly falling for each other unconsciously, to the days were they weren't together, this, in fact, is part of Jonaxx's best works. I love the thoroughness with how specific terms were used and not just surface-level writing. Her versatility was truly seen in this novel, creating a whole new series in the same universe while slowly harvesting the egg hunts she placed on the previous series. This is definitely a good start!

for me there's nothing special in this story that's how i feel about it maybe bcs i have read so many stories in the past few years where the girl is a badass but sage is a kinda badass/girlboss whatever u call it in a cliche/predictable way... i liked her from the start bcs as far as i remember this is the first time jonaxx wrote a girlboss/badass story and pietro he's just the same as the other riego characters from the past who is handsome, tall, possessive and taste a different recipes of god when he grow up (if u know what i mean) the only difference is that when he was young he's the target of the bullies and he's perceived as arrogant and ugly by those people bcs he's a nerd and wears 🤓.
the only thing that i love in this story was the atmosphere/aesthetic and the world in this book.
i think this is the starting point for jonaxx to write a character who is badass/girlboss that's why this did not come out as i expected and i did not love the whole book. i also wish she writes more character just like this but a lot more better and also upgrade the world in this book a lot more better. no pressure okayyy.
ADDITIONAL: i wish she would also write a story where the guy is not the only who is not a v!rgin but the female lead is also not a v!rgin bcs from her past stories it's always the guy who is not a v!rgin anymore but the female lead is always the v!rgin and innocent one and it makes me uncomfortable for some reasons and i also think it's kinda unfair to the characters where the guy is have so many experiences when it comes to bed and the girl was the innocent one that's just I perceived it okay? don't attack me. and lastly i wish she would also write a story where the girl had already an experience but the guy doesn't have an experience i want to see how it will turn out.
POINT: i don't have a problem where jonaxx write the jsl boys who is not a v!rgin anymore that was okay for me i love her works but I need/want changes and upgrades.

This is the first installment in the Rara Avis series by Jonaxx.
It was a good read. Binabasa ko rin siya habang on-going and this will be the last time I'll read something from her na on-going. I cannot do that again and torture myself.
Para sa'kin, wala naman masyadong bago in terms of how she wrote it. Nandoon pa rin yung Jonaxx touch. But, bago pa rin siya kasi ito ang first action-romance niya at nabigyan naman din ng justice. Hindi pilit at hindi cringey. Magaling din talaga si Jonaxx when it comes to transitions. Hindi na kailangan gawing italic yung text para masabi na nasa past na yung isang scene. *coughs
I wouldn't say this is different and that this was perfectly written like what the others say... exciting, thrilling, and nakaka-kilig but that's it but scene execution was nice. Hindi rin siya wow, it's just fine.
Sage and Pietro's characters were nicely done, too. Pinakilig rin nila ako. Pero may questions pa rin ako here and there, syempre. Baka sa email ko nalang ilagay.

sage is a breath of fresh air among all the jgirls. she's literally the definition of gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss. on the side note, the overall story is lacking the it factor for me. i think the existence of the rara avis itself is an interesting addition to the overly complex and intricate jonaxx lore, but this book is just so mediocre to start the series with its predictable plot and one dimensional characters.

It ended today. I read Pietro's PoV and was satisfied with the ending. Not that I consider the story as anything mindblowing. It was so-so. I had to jot down tons of names, which annoyed me.
Sage is quite the cliché character. Resolute, stubborn ... and pretty. And likeable, I guess. I did love her. Perhaps, it's because it's Jonaxx's first time to write a story where the FL is much more ... not the usual Jgirl-like. If you get what I mean.
Pietro possesses the usual Jboy qualities, though, the only difference was him being short and ugly when he was young.
I expected the default insta-lovey setting and received it. I had no problem with how this turned out. I felt like reading a highschool boy's PoV while reading Pietro's PoV earlier. Not that I disliked it either way. Just didn't make me think he was any different from other Jboys.
The plot was not that good for me. It gave me Fast and Furious 8 vibes. Enjoyable, tho, and short.
This is for readers who like reading about female independent spies or whatever Sage is supposed to be called. I believe so.
I'd describe the trope here as: Bully × Victim (Mild) to Childhood Frenemies to Strangers to Enemies to Practice Partners (I guess that makes sense) to Lovers. Definitely a book with a trope where “the guy falls first and harder.”
Overall, this was a good read. I'm glad that the author is exploring the genre. Hoping she'd write another one like this. But better.
P.S. I have a lot more to say, but I'm currently not in the mood to say anything else. Will edit sometime.

In my humble opinion, this book (and this series, in general) is the PEAK of Queen J's writing career. This is a breath of fresh air to me, with her deviating from the usual small-town or billionaire romances she usually writes. The storyline is for international level. It's like I'm reading a Cora Reilly book-- heck, even far better than Cora, for crying out loud! Ate J experimented with the plot and executed it perfectly. The attempt to sway from her usual tropes was risky but it was worth it. I saw her maturity in her decade-long journey as a writer. It was evident with the action-packed scenes that covered almost half of the book. The prolonged sexual tension between Pietro and Sage was warranted, even the gradual build-up of their relationship was justified. It was slow burn, which was totally understandable because of their history.
I can't wait to read the next books in this series if this is the kind of story she delivers to her readers. SIYF (and perhaps the entire Rara Avis Series) just proves her versatility as a writer.

Although this book is still ongoing, I can already say that it is one of my favorite story right now. The story becomes more and more exciting with each new chapter. I can't wait for the next update!

The first story in the Rara Avis series.
Read this having a little to almost no clue of what the series is about. Only read something like perhaps Gino and Cresia will have their story in this series in the future (dunno if just wishful thinking pero at some point I think I am ok with Cresia ending up with another guy). So from this, medyo nahinuha ko na na baka may pagka-action ito.
Back to my review. The first few chapters made me forget of that. Siguro na din kasi kagagaling ko lang din sa pag-reread ng AGS and nafocus lang ako sa trajectory na highschool love then because of something magkakahiwalay only to be reunited in the future (the jonaxx style). While partly true, I was pleasantly shocked of how we got there. And after piecing all the stuff I’ve read, daaaang, parang ngayon na lang ulit ako na-excite ng more than usual because FINALLY, Jonaxx ventured to the more action packed type ng story (while of course heavily based on romance pa rin).
This beinf her first (correct me if I am wrong, there were glimpses in other stories but not as heavy as this one) is alread proof that she’ll flourish well in this genre. Ito lang ata yung book niya na up until chapter 50, hindi ka pa rin makahinga ng maluwag. More of this kind of stories, please.
I’d also like to think that Sage is to be contributed to the thrill that I had while reading this. Kakaibabae siya! And first time na na-overshadow ng isang jgirl ang isang jboy but that doesn’t mean that puchu puchu lang si Pietro because my gosh, isa pa siya! Haha. Siguro kung may hihilingin lang ako is more POV from Pietro kasi feeling ko, a different experience of its own pag galing na kay Pietro eh. Would love to read more from his thoughts especially dun sa part na Sage is sacrificing herself out there for him. Naku, these two will probably occupy a part of my heart and brain for a long time.
I am really looking forward to reading more from this series. I remember liking Snow and Sibal’s story too and look how great the CLS turned out? What more ito na I cannot put down? Will probably do a vlog about my thoughts and then proceed to book 2 ❤️

"I stopped because he let his hand slide on my waist and let his chin rest on my shoulder as he yawned. Napatingin ako sa mga tauhan sa paligid, pati kay Erik at Gio. Erik only grinned and shrugged. Gio just looked at us then continued working.
"Kung pagod ka na, matulog ka na. Babalik din ako don. Give me an hour."
"I can wait here for an hour," he said.
May nagbigay agad sa kanya ng swivel chair. Samantalang no'ng ako, monobloc chair lang ang inupuan ko. He sat on the chair and let his head rest. His eyes were closed.
Dumaan tuloy sa isip ko na tapusin na to at samahan na lang siya sa kuwarto. Ilang saglit pa tuloy akong naag isip kung ipagpapatuloy pa ba 'to.
"Kami na ang bahala dito. Patulugin mo na ang boyfriend mo," si Erik.
I glared at him. He smirked. Umiling ako at nagpatuloy saglit sa ginagawa. I lasted only fifteen minutes. I saw Pietro trying to stay awake when he heard my voice and my questions. Kaya hindi ko na kaya at sinamahan na siya sa villa."

i always deem it unnecessary when someone goes out of their way to accompany me. it makes me feel like a nuisance. but in the moments when i let myself relax and simply enjoy their presence, i feel so special. this is how Pietro always is with Sage. that is love to me.
i genuinely can't handle casual intimacy. it makes me all fuzzy inside. Pietro and Sage are probably one of my most adored Jonaxx couple. i teared up reading about how much they longed for one another and finally got the happy ending they deserved. definitely protect this couple at all costs.
i can tell Jonaxx really poured her heart into this one, but beyond the romance, it didn’t quite hold my interest and felt a bit confusing at times. i do think she realized her true strength and leaned more heavily on the romantic aspect in Real and Raica’s story.

no words... OBSESSED WITH THIS MF 😀 it took me less than 3 days to finish this shit and it was enchanted but also a nightmare, why you may ask? because I envy Sage (fl). Yes babe, I find everything about her similar to me, well except the firing and the bombs. But most importantly, I can never experience that kind of love from Pietro. Ellison. Saldivar. To all those girlies who haven't read this masterpiece, it's time!
P.S. this is my first book of the author, Jonaxx 🤍, not that it is something important, because it is. Shelter in your Fingertips has a resemblance of Shatter me by Taherah Mafi 👑 in terms of love interest and causes, guns, the "I'd burn the world for you" trope 💳💥 but, SIYF can be rather realistic than Shatter me. Which is a major weakness of mine atm, and I think it would last a lifetime 😭.

i never rate first books anything higher than a 3 because i know that the next ones are much more. but reading and thinking SIYF as a standalone, i would rate it a 4! i love the flow (as all jonaxx books are), sage is probably the first jgirl that i found tolerable throughout the book. her character development is potrayed so well.
now i gave this a 4 because i expected TOO MUCH from this book, i read so many lines from pietro before reading it (the reason why i wanted to read it) that i expected more. but those are just it. i wish to read more from pietro's pov because NAKAKABITIN SIYA!

I've had always love queen j's stories, there's no doubt about that. Absolutely, as fas as I can remember it's my first time reading her stories where she writes a story that has a mystery genre. I remember the part in Eury and Vince story i've also tried to predict whose gonna be the suspect for the crime but I always failed, queen j always got me on that. It's good that some of the characters here are already familiar from cls. I love the plot and overall of this story. Queen J never failed to make me feel something different just like what Sage feel when it comes to Pietro. I would love to read more of her stories who has the same genre as this.

This story really hit different for me. What I loved the most is how the usual roles were reversed most of the time, it’s the guy protecting the girl, but here, the girl was the one protecting the guy. And not just in a small way, she really stood up and fought for Pietro. That kind of love and strength really touched me.
Both of them protected each other in their own ways, but the way the girl never gave up on him made me admire her so much. I felt every moment, every pain, every love, every fight they went through. It reminded me that real love means being strong for each other no matter what.
This story made me feel a lot, and I honestly didn’t want it to end

I absolutely loved this story. it's incredibly cute and thrilling at the same time especially their close combat scenes had me laughing out loud. 😭😩 ang cute nung sudden kiss niya kay pietro HAHAHAHAHAHA

nonchalant female lead and nonchalant male lead. sobrang swak talaga ni pietro at sage, Idk why pero there's just something about their characters that just feels right. alam mo yon? first time din ata 'to na action sa story ni jonaxx and sobrang na amaze ako kay sage. tawang-tawa ako sakanilang dalawa, how they describe each other but couldn't deny their love.
naiyak ako sa, "pietro ko" scene. i just know love na love ni sage yung pietro no'ng high school, lalo na yung pietro ngayon. ganon din kay pietro ellison saldivar na tumalon sa bangin para iligtas ang pinakamamhal niyang sage.

pietro sage my loves huhu at first tbh i was really annoyed at sage bc even though she’s protecting him in secret it was annoying na secret lang hshshs like infront of other people kinakahiya niya si pietro, buttt super naredeem niya sarili niya grabe character development like bawing bawi!!! grabe sacrifices nya towards the end and naprove na super genuine and pure din ng love nya kay pietro :*) he fell first but she fell harder trope!!! pietro sobrang mahal kita i believe fav jboy!!!

this is just a quick review;
But this is the most intense Jonaxx book I have ever read, although some of it was quite predictable, but it was amazing.
The character development was somewhat okay, especially the side characters involved in the party.
But what makes me curious the most, which remains unresolved was what really happened at the gym, but maybe it is up to us readers to figure it out, or might have missed it.

3.5 ⭐️ the whole past part i was annoyed with Sage, but I did see her character development once i got to the present. it was also in the present part (kab20 onwards) where i got the motivation to continue reading. its still a good story tho !

This was a lot of fun to read. I believe this was her first time writing action-romance, thus it was a fresh experience for those of us who have been reading her works for years. I'm not a fan of bullies turning into lovers, but Pietro and Sage's dynamic was so amusing and chaotic that Sage as the bully didn't seem like such a big deal, possibly because it wasn't her intention and she was just using it as a front to teach Pietro how to protect himself from Jerson and the other kids.

Sage and Pietro??? Those two are awesome. May mga moments lang na nahihiya ako for sage (ang thick ng face nito girl) but she's super duper cool naman talaga! Girl boss ba kamo. Worth reading po ito, may pagka slow burn lang. I assure you.
