The Unforgettable Logan Foster
Logan Foster is a neurodivergent 12-year-old orphan with an eidetic memory and zero filter who only wants to find the sibling he believes he has, but cannot remember. When he's fostered by a couple who are clearly hiding something, Logan assumes his placement won't work out, which is too bad because he's finally made a real friend in Elena, the older girl next door. But when he discovers that his adoptive parents are superheroes and the characters from comic books and movies are real, all of his assumptions are left behind, and his amazing mind may be the secret to saving his foster folks and the world.

Logan truly is unforgettable.
When you work in the publishing industry, you read hundreds of books that never get published. Usually it's because the book isn't good enough. But sometimes you read a true gem, a brilliant book that blows your mind, and for whatever reason, it doesn't get accepted. The agent doesn't specialize in that genre, the editor just signed a similar book, etc. For me, THE UNFORGETTABLE LOGAN FOSTER was one such book.
From the first page, Logan swept me away. He's absolutely charming, witty, cracks jokes, and doesn't back down from a challenge. Shawn's writing has something rare to find in a slush pile--heart. I read the manuscript in one sitting and the next day I eagerly pitched it to the agent I worked for. Unfortunately, this was one of those books that didn't quite fit. Not quite the right time and not quite the right agent for the book.
For years, I kept checking in on Shawn's website to see if he had any news, but didn't see any updates. But Logan Foster stuck with me. I kept thinking about this kid, funny lines he said, the genius of the story and the humor in Shawn's writing. I would tell people about this book, saying, "I hope it gets published someday, because you really need to read this!"
Six years later, glancing through Publishers Weekly, I saw Shawn's name. THE UNFORGETTABLE LOGAN FOSTER had finally been sold!! I literally called up my best friend and excitedly told them, "You know that book? The one I told you about years ago? It's finally getting published!" They had no idea what I was so hyped up about. It's hard to share that excitement when literally no one you know has read the same book you have. But now the world gets the pleasure of reading it, and I cannot wait.
I know this sounds corny, but I never forgot about Logan. This is one of those rare moments when a book you thought got lost in the shuffle finally gets a win, and let me tell you, Logan Foster deserves it.

As villains close in, a decision needs to be made about continuing to build a family. Will it conflict with saving the world? The book is written as a letter from Logan to a long lost sibling. What an action packed heartwarming story full of humor & superheroes! Had a great time, & loved it! Logan Foster has pretty much given up on the idea of ever being adopted. It could have something to with his awkward manner, his photographic memory, or his affection for reciting curious facts, but whatever the cause, Logan & his “PP’s” (prospective parents) have never clicked. Then everything changes when Gil & Margie arrive. Although they aren’t exactly perfect themselves—Gil has the punniest sense of humor & Margie’s cooking would have anyone running for the hills—they genuinely seem to care.
But it doesn’t take Logan long to notice some very odd things about them. They are out at all hours, they never seem to eat, & there’s a part of the house that is protected by some pretty elaborate security. No matter what Logan could have imagined, nothing prepared him for the truth: His PP’s are actually superheroes, & they’re being hunted down by dastardly forces. Logan’s found himself caught in the middle in a massive battle & the very fate of the world may hang in the balance. Logan has a photographic memory, & just the way he talks & everything reminded me so much of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory, who I loved. Logan shared numerous facts throughout the book about all sorts of various things, & I just adore him. The whole backstory of superheroes & comics I though was such a creative idea, & loved it. Reading this felt like reading a comic & watching a superhero movie at the same time. Done so well! The humor is amazing. The friendship & family aspects, as well a Logan’s character in general..are so heartwarming & charming-the heartwarming mixed in with the action & adventure made for such a delightful read. Looking forward to the sequel! This came out this past Tuesday, & I think kids would love this! Beautiful cover & full page illustrations sprinkled throughout by Petur Antonsson as well! “That is a fact!”💜

Hilarious AND action-packed. In the first few pages, there’s an earthquake and lava, and I was excited to keep reading, and laughing at the same time. I knew early on that Logan would be an endearing character, and I was right.
This book kind of reminded me of The Incredibles. We loved that movie, and would definitely pay to see this book turned into something similar. Hear that, Pixar?
The overall plot reminded me of a few other movies and comics, and that is exactly the point well-done. This is essentially the novel version of a comic book that doesn’t yet exist, and yet it’s inspired by so many comic books you’ve read that it feels like it belongs.
This first book is a terrific set up for Logan Foster as a classic (and unforgettable!) character, and it sets it up well for a long series run.

This was surprisingly enjoyable. Logan is a neurodivergent orphan with an eidetic memory, and you can’t help loving him. He gets new foster parents who are also kind of odd, and their affection for him is so real. It’s a fun story, a little goofy, with a lot of heart without getting cheesy or cringey. Best to go in knowing as little as possible.

Twelve-year-old Logan Foster has been hoping for foster parents since he was three years old. Logan tends to ask a lot of questions, which can be awkward, he has an eidetic (photographic) memory, among other diagnoses in his file, and oh yeah, he loves comic books. So he hasn’t found the right foster parents, or they haven’t found him.
Then Gil Grant and Margie Morrow come into Logan’s life as his foster parents, and life gets…interesting. At first, Gil seems to be a dad that tells bad puns, works weird hours, and doesn’t eat Margie’s lousy cooking. And Margie appears to have super shiny skin, but when they take Logan to see the latest superhero movie, all is revealed.
His foster parents are real-life superheroes! But just like the comics, they are being chased down by some evil villains, and soon Logan finds himself holding all the power - because knowledge is power!

This book is perfect for fans of superhero comics! It features twelve-year-old Logan Foster, a neurodivergent orphan with an eidetic memory. Because of his propensity to say whatever is on his mind, he's been in and out of foster care ever since being abandoned at the age of three. He doesn't expect his latest family to be any different, but he soon discovers they are totally different than anyone he's ever encountered–they are actual superheroes! When the whole family is forced to fight off the world's most formidable villain, it ends up being up to Logan, and his inability to forget anything he's ever seen or heard, to save the day. Readers will fall in love with Logan's sweet, earnest voice, and his unique take on the world offers lots of laughter even as Logan's life turns into something straight out of a comic book. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and I have a feeling it's going to be a huge hit amongst middle grade readers.

Hilarious, warm-hearted and such incredible fun! LOGAN FOSTER hits the pitch-perfect balance between a funny and engaging voice, non-stop action, and a beautiful heart. Lucky are the MG readers who are meeting Logan, and luckier still as there are more adventures to come!

If you want a combination of non-stop adventure and empowering themes, this is the book for you. Highly recommended for reluctant readers particularly, and all 8-12-year-olds!

Superheroes! A perfect book for students that want to read about a superhero! When Gil and Margie decide to be foster parents to Logan, he had no idea how his life would change. Loved the characters in this book and how accepting they are of each other. I can’t wait to put this book into readers’ hands!

This book was absolutely worth the wait! If you’re into superheroes and super powered showdowns, then you are in for a treat. Add to that a kid with a one-in-a-billion brain and hold on tight! It’s a fun ride!

This book was all alright.
The references in here to the comics were cool but what was really fascinating about this book was that Logan can't forget anything.
Although having an eidetic memory may seem like a blessing you remember everything. You don't just remember the good things, you remember all of the bad things too. You can't choose what to remember and what to forget.

This was a really good book! I kept raving about it at work. I think the concept was really good and appropriate for any child in its intended age group. Logan was very smart and I think the author represented him well. There were a few errors I caught, and I think some children will too, but overall a very good Middle Grade book.

This is one of the most adorable middle grade books I've read in a long time. Logan is delightful, the character voices are clear and engaging, and both the short and long-term plot arcs are set up well enough to keep you interested. I might quibble a bit about pacing and lack of narrative tension in some areas, but overall it's a great read. One of those books that manages to be enjoyable for kids and adults both.

This was such a fun, interesting book! I was intrigued almost right away by the storyline, and it did not disappoint. There’s a lot of superhero references while also staying true to its own story. This is actually Peters’ debut book which I was shocked by because it was so good! It left me wanting more, so I’m excited to hear there might be a second one :)

When he's fostered by a couple who's clearly hiding things, his brain has to solve the mystery. However, he couldn't have predicted them being superheroes. Soon, he's engaged in a battle that only his incredible brain has a chance to win.
I really enjoyed this quirky and entertaining book! The book is written like a story Logan is telling his sibling. I think the different narration really helped showcase Logan’s personality. You were able to see his utter lack of filter, but also how much he loves his sibling. Logan was such a fun character! I loved how he was unashamedly himself even though not everyone liked it. He was incredibly smart, and it was cool to watch his brain in action throughout the book.
Margie and Gil, Logan’s foster parents, were definitely not normal, but I liked how different they were. They did not fit into the average superhero mold at all, and it just added to the fun, quirky vibe the book had. It was obvious they loved Logan a lot though, and I liked seeing how they grew into a family. I would have loved more family scenes, so I’m hoping we’ll get a bit more in the next book!
The pacing of this book was fantastic with lots of action and adventure. Peters also was able to make a lot of set up not feel like it was set up which was awesome. The Unforgettable Logan Foster kept me interested the whole way through, and I was not expecting some of the twists in it. Some parts of the book felt a little bit young, so I would recommend it to any middle or elementary schooler! I think it’s especially perfect for the ones obsessed with superheroes like I was :)

One of the things that I loved about The Unforgettable Logan Foster was Logan's voice. I enjoyed the way he internalizes dialogue and then just says what he's feeling. There's lots of humor and a sensitivity in that voice. I also enjoyed the way he made lists to organize information and his love for stating the facts. Not to mention his incredible memory for details. When Logan was found on the jetway, the only two pieces of information available were a note attached to his shirt with "L. Foster" and that the t-shirt he was wearing said, "World's Best Big Brother." It's because of these two facts that he is confident that he has a sibling somewhere out there. The whole story is written as a letter to his unknown sibling with each chapter timestamped with the date. Logan tries to highlight the events that his sibling missed out on, while also expressing everything that he is doing to try and find them. Another thing I truly enjoyed was Logan's tenacity and how he utilizes his innate talents to overcome the obstacles thrown at him by Necros. Logan is truly a remarkable main character, unforgettable and one I can see children rooting for. I found myself excited for his newfound family and the potential of learning more about Logan's birth parents and possible sibling in any future book.

I absolutely fell in love with Logan Foster from the very first page. A boy with an eidetic memory and an enviable brutal frankness, he made me laugh and cry telling me (well, not exactly me, his supposed lost sibling) the tale of how he came to find out that his foster parents were real life superheroes!
Shawn Peters weaves an original tale with fresh new comic heroes, especially Margie and Gil, but it’s Logan’s big brain that is required to save the day! And that’s a fact! Action-packed, the story takes place in Los Angeles, a nostalgic read for me as my hometown is struck by massive earthquakes. Sorry Third Street Promenade, I’ll miss you.
The premise sets up Logan Foster and his unique family to save the day in many more books that will hopefully come! I highly recommend this book for kids and their parents!

What I would have given to have this book when I was a child! THE UNFORGETTABLE LOGAN FOSTER was such a quick and fun read. I loved Logan's voice, the action, and the humor. It felt as if I was being told an attention-grabbing story from a best friend. I loved how Peters wasn't afraid to step outside of typical narration in the way he allowed Logan to be free in the way he told his story. I loved the inclusion of lists and facts and side points. What a creative way to narrate a story. It felt as if Logan was talking right to me!
This is the book I'll be picking up and reading again whenever I'm having a dreary day and am in need of an escape.

I enjoyed the quirkiness of the main character, his friend, Elena, and his foster parents, Gil and Margie. I did not enjoy the way the device used by the author to have the main character narrating events to an unknown brother or sister. It felt flat and detracted from the moments of action.

The Unforgettable Logan Foster is a fast-paced action story full of memorable characters that is sure to be a hit with reluctant readers and bookworms alike.
Logan Foster immediately pulls readers in with a great voice from an outright hilarious narrator. Logan Foster has lived in an orphanage for as long as he can remember, and he can remember a lot, having an eidetic memory. All he knows from his life before the orphanage is that he was found in an airport, wearing a World’s Best Big Brother shirt, with L. Foster on the tag. He’s spent his life searching for his younger sibling and shuffling back and forth between foster parents and the orphanage.
Logan is a relatable character and a great narrator, as he is telling the story via letter to his lost sibling. I especially appreciate how Logan’s lack of filter, quirky way of speaking, and high intellect are portrayed as assets instead of problems. It reminds me a bit of the Percy Jackson series, as differences with negative connotations are portrayed as superpowers and strong skills. Every character is as well developed as Logan, whether it’s his latest potential foster parents, the harried woman who manages the orphanage, or the cast of superheroes he finds out live not just in his comic books.
Logan is suspicious of his new foster parents, as they are most certainly hiding something. When a villain pops out of the screen at the movie theater and starts threatening them, Logan gets an idea of just what they may be hiding. But can this not-normal but not-superhero kid save the day when its the heroes who need help?
The fast-paced plot is sure to keep readers of all ages enthralled and engaged. Every character is as well developed as Logan, whether it’s his latest potential foster parents, the harried woman who manages the orphanage, or the cast of superheroes he finds out live not just in his comic books.

Sometimes people ask me why I still read middle-grade books being that I'm in my late 20s. My response is usually one of two reasons, (1) because I didn't have these kinds of books growing up and felt robbed having to grow up too fast during my own childhood so it's comforting to read them now (2) I'm curating a library of books for my own children one day. Both are true, though sometimes a simple "because I can and I enjoy it" works well too.
The Unforgettable Logan Foster is a book that will definitely be in my child's library AND it's one that I know will be incredibly impactful for so many young readers today. It's full of so much heart and would make an incredible Pixar film - one that I would be in a puddle of tears by the end over. :)
Instead of doing a typical review, because I don't think I could do it justice, I'm just going to include a couple of quotes from moments that really stood out to me in reading this.
- This part REALLY tugged at my heart strings. Although Logan's neurodivergence is not a focal point of this story, (I would say anyways) there are moments like this where he acknowledges the fact that he knows he is different from those around him. He never talks negatively of himself throughout this story regarding these differences though which I think is so important.
- This part!!!!!! This is one of the superheroes talking about her home planet and that last line just... hell yes.
Also, the author's note in which he thanked his wife stating, "And finally, I have to thank my wife, Sara, because there isn’t a single good thing in this book, or my life, that didn’t come from her. The idea that everyone has a superpower inside us comes from listening to and learning from her. The stories she’s brought home of neurodivergent students who thrive when they’re just given the space to grow instead of the requirement to conform are woven into this book’s heart." made me feel so SOFT.
This whole book had me feeling all sorts of warm fuzzy feels so definitely go and pick it up for you or a young reader in your life!

On my planet, not all women are able to carry a child and those that can have a great responsibility. Our leaders dictate who marries who to ensure the strongest genetic code survives. I was lucky. But when the time came, I couldn’t bring myself to just accept whoever the leadership decided would be my husband. I didn’t want them to decide the fate of my body.

Despite several attempts, Logan has not found a suitable foster home, inevitably returning to the orphanage time and time again.
