THE MARTIAN WAY OF DEATH! Recent revelations threaten to profoundly alter the Destiny of X - and Arakko isn't immune from the fallout! With the clock ticking down to interstellar war, STORM faces a Galactic Illuminati… MAGNETO attends a meeting of his own that might decide both their fates…and ROBERTO DA COSTA ponders a recent return from the grave alongside the strangest guest star of all!
More of a talky issue. This issue just contemplates death, and basically comes to the same conclusion as the TV show The Good Place. There is value to having a life that ends. Eternity can be terrifying, or boring. It's natural to maybe want a good life to come to an end.
Along the way, we saw Richard Rider talk an unexpected amount. God, I love the real Nova.
Not a lot of fighting this issue. And I rolled my eyes that we once again talked about a single mutant character "speaking on behalf of the entire Sol system." Normally it's Abigail Brand throwing around that phrase, but in this issue Storm was described that way. Again, as I have pointed out many times before, there are OTHER intelligent civilizations in the Solar System of the 616 universe. Eternals on Uranus and Titan, at the very least.
Good. Death having no stakes is something I've long disliked about X-Men. Jean's consistent death/rebirth is less impactful every time she dies. And now every character has a neverending cycle of "so what" death. Magneto and Storm have reinstituted having stakes. Way of X tried to answer this question and while I don't believe that death is what gives life meaning in neither real life nor storytelling characters getting worked up about impermanent death isn't believable. Why would Charles be yelling about his daughter? A. You can't convince me he cares about his children. B. There is no real urgency here, she'll be right back. I'm ready for resurrection to be done permanently across all X-Men stories in all variations.
Wrongslide is the best part of this issue. Him trying to find his place after being brought back...wrong. It's a slippery path, while Storm deals with bringing back another powerful mutant, and Magneto letting the people of his new planet know where he's currently at.
