A love lost is hard, especially when that loss appears in your face weekly, reminding you of what once was. Anissa Dent is experiencing heartbreak like none she’s ever felt. Her husband of nearly twenty years has fallen victim to crack cocaine after a devastating loss. All her efforts to help him have failed, and to protect herself and her sons, she divorces him and has him removed from their home. That doesn’t stop him from popping in and out of their lives with promises of getting clean. Anissa desperately wants to move on in her life, but her love for what once was is holding her back. However, attending a family barbeque with her son proves to be the restart she desperately needs. The host penetrates her exterior and has her questioning why she’s been single for the last fifteen years with someone like him available.
Grief can be a hard thing to overcome. Sheldon Berotte has been grieving the loss of his wife for nearly twenty-five years, not giving another relationship a second thought. When she dies during childbirth, he is left to raise their five children, all under the age of ten, alone. His in-laws all live out of town, so help was minimal. However, he stepped up to the plate and devoted his life to his children. Now that they are grown, they are worried about him. He has lost his ability to even entertain other people, nearly becoming a recluse. The only thing that gives him purpose is volunteering as security at one of the local high schools. Allowing his children to convince him into having a family barbeque and them inviting some of their friends and their families, is the moment his life changes forever.
Anissa and Sheldon have immediate chemistry that he tries to fight. The feeling of guilt consumes him and threatens to destroy their future before they can even have a present. Can Sheldon let go of the torment guilt is putting him through and embrace the budding relationship between him and Anissa or will he allow her to slip from his fingertips?
Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.
Mrs. Walters has done it again. She has created a family that we have fallen in love with from the first book. And I know it's more 🔥 coming from the books to follow. I am ready and here for all the smoke. I don't know where to start, I guess the head of the household, Mr. Sheldon himself. Sheldon is going to be the "zaddy" of the year with the salt and pepper beard. Ms. Anissa is in for the ride of her life. She is on the arm of a steamy man plus got five bonus kids with the package deal. I feel like Anissa is going to be the mother figure everyone needs in their lives. I can gather from this book that Alexz needed a woman in her life. Speaking of Alexz she can most definitely hold her own and I love it. Growing up with all males has made her one tough nut that doesn't easily crack. I am looking forward to her book. I can only imagine what kind of emotional rollercoaster it's going to take us on.
This was a fast-paced love connection but I liked it. I feel like because of Sheldon and Anissa's past they did not need a long-drawn-out love affair. All of their kids are grown, successful, and living their lives. I am looking forward to reading about who everyone marries and starts a family with. Everyone has different personalities. Chad is the family clown. Shy is the gangsta slash lawyer. I feel as if he is going to be the one that needs the most motherly love. Dylan is the playboy. Isaiah has a tender heart. DJ and Jamel, I'm pretty sure I will learn more as other stories unfold. I do know now that they both are overprotective of their mother. So ladies and gentlemen if you have not taken this adventure with the new family on the block, the Berottes, I say buckle up and enjoy the ride. You will be quite entertained.
Pleasantly surprised I enjoyed this older couple! Love after loss is hard and to see this couple take their time to find love again was nice! Sheldon was an asshole to Anissa and I’m glad he put his childish ways aside to truly pursue her and realize he needed to get help in grieving his first wife. Anissa’s issues with her ex husband were a lot but I’m glad that situation finally got closure. The story didn’t feel rushed and gave off the vibe of when you know you know! I enjoyed this story from Monica Walters! I’m ready to dive into the rest of this family!
I was instantly hooked on these two after learning of their backstories, and my heart went out to them! Anissa had gone through some real mess with that ex-husband of hers, but chose peace and walked away. Learning to live again, and finding happiness was a bit lonely, but she was managing fine. Or so she thought! Sheldon! After learning of how devastated he was after losing Marie, and closing off his life to everyone except his children, was one of the saddest things I have encountered! Anissa and Sheldon meeting, was definitely God's plan! The ease and comfort that they had with each other, after that first day was uncanny! It was like their spirits called out to each other! Just being in Anissa's presence made Sheldon realize that he had some changes to make, and quickly to be the man he needed to be for her! Lawd, Sheldon's children can surely bring the drama! 😂 But, I loved how they all stuck together, and their bond is rock solid! Poor Alexz! She almost got caught up in some mess for real, for real! I love Chad already! ❤ Dylan and Shyron will be fun to see what they get into. Isaiah, the softie will probably have the best love story of them all! Miss Monica, I did not want this to end, as I was loving the progress that Sheldon and Anissa were making. Cannot wait to dive into more of this family and their antics! Great job!
Listen I love books that expand what love looks like. This book did just that. Anissa and Sheldon were in their early 50s with grown children, finding themselves with a second chance at love. Both had been without a partner for over a decade plus. It was nice to see them both finally open up to Love. Love happens across all ages and I believe it should be celebrated more.
There is nothing like reading about black families, because it feels like home. I loved the relationships that both Anissa and Sheldon had with their children. There were plenty of times I laughed out loud because those Berotte boy's were hilarious, especially Chad. It was nice to see how much they all loved and supported each other.
There was so much going on in the story because of the familial dynamic, I wanted just a little more time with Sheldon and Anissa. They connected so quickly we barely experienced them together. Who were they together? I hope we get a little more from them in the next books. I'm definitely committed to seeing where this beautiful black family goes.
I am excited to meet the Berotte family as I am a huge fan of the Henderson family. I enjoyed this story as it focused on the more matured and seasoned characters (around my age) that needed love after both suffering from their own form of tragedy. Sheldon and Anissa's pairing did not start ideally because of Sheldon's past exposing that he needed closure on his long lived grief. Anissa on the other hand was determined to live in peace, a place she found after a long toxic journey with her ex. The chemistry between Sheldon and Anissa felt authentic and their slow burn insta-love felt genuine. I am excited to read more from this family!
I really enjoyed Sheldon and Anissa’s story. My heart really went out to the both of them after reading about their individual heartbreaks in the love department. I honestly can’t decide which was worse. This was my first time reading about an “older” love and it was really beautifully told. There’s something special to be said about love after loss and I’m really glad they get a second chance at it. I loved all of the kids and look forward to seeing what will come from their own individual journeys to love and happiness.
I have officially fell down the Monica Walters rabbit hole and I’m glad this was my first read by her. I can already tell I’m going to enjoy watching the rest of the Berotte family’s love lives unfold. Sheldon and Anissa had me swooning, giving me all the faith in finding a second chance love. 10/10 definitely recommend!
Definitely a great grown and sexy read for mature people. I love how they met with no intentions of being together. The kids have their own things going on and everyone is grown in this coming series and i can't wait to read about them.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrators did a good job bringing this story to life. I loved how the couple met and progressed. I know this is the first of the series so I can’t wait to see what is in store for the Berotte family!
Anissa and Sheldon met on the fly and just kept going and going. Sheldon had been alone for too many years when he met Anissa. Anissa was finally getting over her husband and his demons. It was obvious this story was the lead-in for another book—a nice read.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this story about two grown individuals who are dealing with past traumas haunting them into their present lives and understanding that in order to move towards a future they needed to let go of hurt that should not take up residence in their lives any longer.
This story made me feel happy and eager to see show it plays out. It was so sweetly depicted showing love is possible at any age, how a man treats a woman when he’s sure, a women acceptance in the trust and security he provides when she’s sure and there’s no time frame of when love happens, it just does.
I love the family dynamics, the closeness, protection they provide for one another, and the support the give one another.
A beautifully written story with some drama, some hot lovin and the joining of two families. I patiently wait for the next t installment.
Yes! Monica has done the damn thang as only she can! This book explores love over fifty, no time for drama! We gonna do this or nah? I can truly relate to Anissa, after a certain age , even if you are not looking , you know what you want in a man. Accept me as II am or keep it moving. But at the same time be open to try something different. Not to take anything away from Sheldon, he recognized his future when he saw it. Once he began to work through his issue he was all in!! Together they made a powerful, loving ride or die couple. Can't wait to see what happens with the rest of this well blended family.
Ahhh snap, Mo did it again!!!!! Wow, I am feeling this family! Daddy Berotte is a champ for raising five kids on his own!!! Anissa is one lucky diamond! You know plenty women can't get a man and she found two in her lifetime!!!!! Thought Dexter Sr was gonna be a spoke in the wheel but he got some sense knocked into him. The emotions came out in this one. Love all these adult kids! Cant wait to indulge into their stories!!! Big up yuhself Mo!!! Get yuh read on peeps!!!
Monica knows how to give her readers great books filled with family, love, emotions, and drama, along with lots of laughs. Love on Replay is the beginning of the Berotte Family. This story is about Sheldon and Anissa. Two single adults with grown children , who have both been alone for different reasons. Both holding on to past hurt that keeps them from moving forward. I loved these two. I especially love that these are not young people . People tend to forget that folks in their middle 40’s and 50’s are still sexual and attractive people who need and want love too! I absolutely love this story and the introduction to all of the children. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.
Ok it appears the Berottes will be up there with those Hendersons in my list of book family’s I love. Sheldon and Anissa both had to get passed their past loves, but on two different levels. I was a little put off by Sheldon’s attitude at first but then it all turned out ok. I was a little nervous with the hospital scene too, because I wasn’t so sure of Anissa’s strength. Glad she learned her self-worth. The way those brothers took up for their sister, I loved it! But what I loved even more is Alexz was tough as nails and had a mean upper cut!! I can’t wait to read her story! Heck, I can’t wait to read all of their stories!! Especially to see who will tame that crazy Chad!
Chad is a whole fool, Storm #2. It is so hard to go through grief. I’m convinced men take much longer to grieve than women, especially when they are fully invested. Sheldon was a man’s man. Raising those five kids to be adults. Anissa had her grief too with her ex husband. To say they gone be perfect together is boasting, but with 7 kids now, it’s about to be on. As for Alexz. can’t wait to see how she got to this point..love all the brothers and I already have a favorite!!!
Omg I'm so in love with this family ❤❤❤ I laughed cried shouted my emotions 😭😘😬🤭😚🤣🤗❤ the love Sheldon had for his kids was everything ❤ this story touch my heart ❤ the brothers didn't play about their sister that's what I'm talking bout🙌🏽 or daddy Sheldon his baby girl. Daddy Sheldon was struggling to move on to new love but love stepped right on in. I'm so excited about this series 😍 it the brothers along with daddy was definitely book baes hey along with anissa sons and she was the sweetest person loving and care simply amazing 🤩
I love this new family & all of the drama that comes with them, especially Chad crazy ass. Anissa & Sheldon showcase that grown & sexy vibe that you don't normally read about. Even though Sheldon has spent 25 years grieving, he's moving forward to let love flow with Anissa. And Alexz definitely needs some more estrogen added to that mean left hook that only Mama Nissa can provide. SN: Any ninja named Knowledge NEVER has any good sense or intentions.
I was not ready for Monica Walters to introduce a new family and really wasn't interested in reading this book. I am so glad I did!
Grown folks, people over 50, can love, have feelings and be nasty too! At that age it doesn't take long to know what you want. I have already been captivated by the characters that I met in this book and I am more than ready for this journey.
This book was soo good and I loved the chemistry between Anissa and Sheldon. I loved how they blended their family so effortlessly.
I can’t wait to continue this family saga because now I’m invested with everyone and their love life 😂
Monica never disappoints when it comes to how she can put together a good and effective story that will have your emotions allll over the place. Now onto Alexz book!!
i really like Sheldon and Anissa relationship especially with the being mature and finding love again. I love the fact that their kids supported them dating in the book. I love that Sheldon decided to go to grief counseling before taking things with Anissa to the next level. I feel like the friend Yolanda was really shady with the entire address situation. I really thought Anissa ex husband was going to cause more problems but I am glad he stayed away.
I loved this family… they have just enough dysfunction to be enjoyed. I can already see who may be Alexz’ love interest but I’ll keep quiet and see if I’m right. I could go on and on about this book but I’ll just say that it was an excellent start to what seems to be great reads from this new family…
This family here... What can I say damn no loving for25 years.. Then look what comes to your house a woman who took your breath away. I love the friendship between Their sons the daughter was no joke that sister didn't play and was glad the ex got his mess together. Awesome book Monica until the next one God Bless you for sharing your gift and can't wait to read about baby girl 😍😍
Love on replay!!! The introduction to the new family was everything. The storyline in itself was good. Everything flowed together and I can already see this is about to be one good ride. I really need more to see what was going to be next.. The way this story was written makes you feel like those things was happen in real life.. Monica Job Well Done
The series kicked off with the parents finding love in each other. You can see the setup for this new family series and it’s off to a strong start. Each character has the potential for entertaining stories. I loved that this story focused on love when you’re “seasoned”. This book left me feeling hopeful that my love season can still happen and be on replay.
I loved the introduction to a new family created by this brilliant author. I loved how Sheldon and Anissa's love story was both a slow burn and insta-love. I can't wait to read the books about the children and getting small peeks into their lives as well.
