Choosing Providence #2

Switching Gears

Rate this book
She’s determined to prove herself in a man’s world no matter what obstacles he throws at her.

Scott Wheeler enjoys working with his hands. If it wasn't for the paperwork, being a mechanic at Knight's Repair Shop would be the perfect job for someone like him—someone with dyslexia. But he wants more. A shop of his own only means more paperwork though.

Kennedy Macgregor's life is right on track. That is until her father passes away unexpectedly, and her hopes for a partnership in his auto repair shop vanish into thin air, along with a six-year relationship. Needing a fresh start while she reevaluates her life, she takes a job as a mechanic in a small town called Providence.

Scott doesn't consider himself a male chauvinist, but he can't work with Kennedy. For one, women don't belong in garages, and two, she's much too distracting. Accidents happen when people get distracted, and he can't let that happen again.

Jill Burrell is an author of sweet, small-town romances full of faith, hope, and family.

She has always been an avid reader, and romance has always been her favorite genre. If she’s not writing or folding laundry her head is usually in a book.

When her father told her, “I’ve got a story I want you to write,” she didn’t think she’d ever actually do it. But after twenty years of being a stay-at-home mom with seven children, the idea of writing and publishing a book sounded less terrifying than entering the workforce again. Boy, was she wrong!

Very good read with an awesome leading lady

Cute story. It was a little bit slow in parts but overall interesting plot. I enjoyed the distraction. Loved how competent Kennedy was in the repair shop. She was a boss! Thanks for making such a great female lead and for showing that those with learning disabilities like dyslexia were stronger in will and character because of the challenges they overcome on a daily basis.
I really liked the first in the series and will keep my eyes out for the next one.
Rating: PG, clean, intense but not handsy kissing.

cute sweet small town romance

Romance, sweet, contemporary; series but stand alone read
Kennedy and Scott’s fall was a cute story. The small town auto repair shop setting with Scott’s family made for a unique setting.
Two honest hearts, miscommunications, some anxiety and worry, along with dogged determination made for a great backstory to this sweet romance.

This was absolutely brilliant!!!

This reader adored Kennedy and her choice of job along with her determination to tear down the walls surrounding her strong, silent type boss Scott.

This was such a fun, fascinating and fabulous read which dealt with serious issues along with great lighthearted moments and Kennedy’s extensive T-shirt collection!!

Highly recommend this contemporary, romance as it will cheer your heart up and leave you wearing a grin - please read!!

Received this as an Advanced Reader Copy from the author and the review above is my own opinion.

Scott Wheeler is running an auto repair shop that is a little too successful. He needs help. He has some issues that deter him from paperwork so a friend hires Ken Macgregor, a highly qualified mechanic. The only problem- Ken is short for Kennedy, and she is a woman. Scott doesn't want her there. He thinks she is a distraction, and accidents happen when you are distracted. He should know. This was the captivating story of two people who were perfect partners in every way but had trouble admitting it.

Jill is rapidly becoming a new favorite. After losing both her parents, her long time boyfriend and her dream of ever owning her own auto shop, Kennedy answers a help wanted ad for a job out of town. She thought the person who hired her was her boss. She was angered, shocked and dismayed when her actual boss told her that mechanic work was too dangerous for a female. Had she made a mistake? She could tell he really needed the help. Scott could not believe Ben hired a woman, what was wrong with him. She looked like a walking talking barbie doll, not a mechanic.

This story is full of sexual tension from the time both characters meet. It realistically portrays mixed genders working together in a workshop. It has lots of funny bits. I especially like all the T-shirt sayings. The difficulties arise from the reluctance to seek help; both for a disabling limitation as well as a past trauma. It is well written and keeps you 'in there' right until the end - which is a really good one too. Another great story in the Providence series!

Scott needs another mechanic besides himself at Knight's repair shop. When Ben (Scott's friend) hires "Ken" to work with Scott; Scott is unaware "Ken" is a woman. Thinking that being a mechanic could easily be a dangerous job for a woman; Ken tries to prove him wrong. Is there anything Ken can do or say to Scott to let her work at his mechanic shop? The plot was fantastic, loved the setting; and the characters were so interesting and true to life!

Well written story. The characters had believable problems and lots of romantic tension. The author had me guess a couple of times, will they get together or wont they. Loved Kennedy. She had the girl power thing going on, but not so much that she couldn't open herself up to be vulnerable. This was my first time reading this author and it won't be the last book of hers that I pick up.

Switching Gears is a well written story that pulls you in fast and you get lost in the story. With a heartbreak, change and misunderstanding, this story steals your breath and stops your heart and Kennedy and Scott navigate to bumps to find the way to their hearts.

It’s not just a cute story. There is depth and real feelings that needed to be explained. I learned a lot about behaviors I hadn’t observed before. The families and characters were great. I love small towns such as this story includes

I absolutely loved this book!
It had me laughing one moment and crying the next. These are the kinds of books I adore!
I loved how the female character's career was as a mechanic and that she excelled at it. It was unique in that there aren't many stories with female mechanics in them and I applaud the author for choosing that profession for her.
I look forward to reading more by this author.
