is a wonderful historical chronicle of this place known as "the end of the world". We will review in this book what happend before and after Magellan arrived here in 1520.
The indigenous people, the colonization, the estancias, the sheep, the border problems between Argentina and Chile are some of the topics covered in this book, accompanied by the geological, botanical and cultural contexts of Patagonia.
The history of Perito Moreno, the national parks, the natural resources and the development of Patagonia until today are some of the topics that invite us to think together about the future and the possibilities of Patagonia.
The author was inspired to write this book by his experiences as a museum curator in Patagonia. I hope you are ready for this experience. Because the Andes, the steppe and the unstoppable winds are waiting for us.
Juan Manuel Herrera Traybel was born in Buenos Aires in 1987, but his heart belongs to Patagonia. His fascination with this remote region began at seventeen when he first saw its breathtaking landscapes. He studied tourism and, thanks to his fluency in English, secured an internship at Estancia Harberton in Tierra del Fuego, deepening his love for Patagonia. He also learned Italian and Portuguese, traveled across all seven continents, and returned to earn his National Parks guide license.
He worked closely with Estancia Cristina in Los Glaciares National Park, leading a project to revitalize its museum. Over two years, he conducted deep historical research, becoming the museum’s curator. Now living in Austria, he wrote this book as a result of his passion for Patagonia and its history.
Great, condensed overview of the region of Patagonia with a lot of interesting details fit into a digestible package. Really glad I came across this as it really enriched my trip to the area. Covers topics relevant to both Chile and Argentina but more focused on the latter. Appreciate that the author provided his own unique input and perspective while still delivering the information with clear sourcing. Photos were great too. Missing a star due to some editing and intermittent comprehensibility issues.
A well written, informative synopsis of the history and culture of Patagonia throughout the years. The chronological style and interconnections throughout weave a picture past, present, and future. Easy to read and digest, would highly recommend!
Informative and easy to follow. Great intro read into this amazing and unique land and it's history. Recommend for anyone looking to learn more about Patagonia.
We are going to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego National Park next week. I already read about the place we are visiting, get to know geology, history, social, environment, people and places in general. I read 3 books by famous writer and never get satisfied until THIS BOOK. Simple, informative, good structure with intro and summary, and easy to read.
