Delta Team Two #3.5

Ein Held für Jayme

Rate this book
After a decade of hard work and dedication, Jayme Caldwell’s dreams of a Seattle bakery are whisked out from under her. She’s licking her wounds in Killeen, Texas, living with her memaw, Winnie, while contemplating her future. Of course, Memaw knows exactly the kind of future her granddaughter needs…and it starts with a handsome young man she tricks into having dinner with Jayme. She’d be upset…if the man wasn’t something straight out of any red-blooded woman’s fantasies.

Rocket Long never suspected the sweet little old lady he’d befriended at the grocery store would turn out to be a conniving matchmaker, cleverly setting him up with her beloved granddaughter. But once he lays eyes on Jayme, Rocket can’t be too upset. Especially when, at forty, he’d already given up on finding “the one.” Suddenly, the love and family he’d all but given up on could be his for the taking.

But life is precious. And short. And happiness can be snatched away in the space of a breath. All things Rocket may discover the hard way…before he even gets his ring on Jayme’s finger.

I’m just sayin’ that as I got to know that man, I couldn’t help but think that you two would get on like peanut butter and jelly.”

Short novella in the Tis The Season For Romance anthology.

Synopsis: Good old Memaw had a matchmaking plan and low and behold.....it worked. Don’t you just love conniving grandparents. 😁😁

Setting: Killeen Texas

Jayme: Baker
- Moved to Texas when the opportunity to own her own bakery in Seattle fell through.
- Baking clams her. Soothes her soul
- She has a cantankerous grandma who loves to meddle

Rocket: Helicopter mechanic/pilot
- Was in the Navy for a short period of time
- Is a bit lonely
- Is a big guy and his size sometimes intimidates people

This was a cute story about two people finding love thanks to Memaw’s machinations. And, who doesn’t love a spunky, matchmaking Grandma? Jayme and Rocket were a little older than the traditional couple, so their relationship moved at warp speed.

There was a small danger element that happened and I didn’t really think it added much to the story and felt a little out of place. However, outside of that I enjoyed the story. The characters were likable and easy to root for.

Wonderful story of love and acceptance. Love doesn’t always happen in your twenties, the best come to those who wait. They appreciate it more.

This is a part of 'Tis the Season for Romance and takes place after Shielding Aspen. It is a complete standalone and you don't need to have read the previous books to enjoy this one.

Jayme has moved in with her Memaw after her dreams get trashed in Seattle. Rocket meets Memaw in the grocery store, and she invites him over for dinner. There are sparks and a sweet romance starts. There's some angst, lots of romance and sex, and a tiny element of danger. We barely seen Brain and Aspen from the previous book. Then there's my favorite thing...multiple epilogue set in the future.

Loved, loved, loved this story!!! In wonderful Susan Stoker style, two people finally find the one who’s right for them. Maturity and sexiness combined, with a dash of suspense, just a dash, and wonderful characters had me wonderfully living their story with them!

This book was completely awesome!!! It kept me enthralled from the beginning until the end! Being a novella story, it ended way to quickly, but then doesn’t every good story?
Rocket and Jayme were perfect together!! They were the right amount of sappy and realistic.
The drama made you worry about there being a HEA, but hey, it’s a Susan Stoker story, donut WILL have a HEA.
This one and the epilogue was brilliant and perfect for them!!
The narrator is a new one for me. She sounds like Erin Mallon, and does a fantastic job!!!

A short story that is losely tied to Delta Team Two but you only get to read about Brian and Aspen. But since this one is about Jayme and Rocket who are matchmaker-ed by Jayme's grandma, that's totally ok. A nice story about falling in love when you almost gave up and started to believe to spend the rest of your life alone. Always a wonderful bonus in some of Susan Stokers books - the epilogue which takes you many years in the future and tells you some things that the couple will experience...

This was a lovely and heart-felt novella. Loved Rocket and Jayme. What a perfect pair, with very little machinations involved in the developing relationship from Memaw.

A great read from Susan Stoker... again!

Loved the epilogue( s) too!!

Rocket finds his “one” in Jayme❣️

Jayme has moved back in with her Memaw after her dream of owning her own bakery in Seattle falls through. But her Memaw is playing matchmaker and Jayme suddenly finds herself having dinner with Rocket in her Memaw’s house one night😍 But as everyone knows life is short and soon they will discover that for themselves😢

A wonderful story that I was lucky enough to get free with the Tis the Season for Romance Anthology. I look forward to the next story in this series🤩

Jayme & Rocket's story is a quick read, encompassing their meeting & dating & HEA & beyond. Winnie is definitely quite the match maker. Jayme is at a bit of a crossroads, and Rocket's encouragement helps her to see that the dreams she thought were dashed in Seattle just might come true in Texas.

I really liked both their personalities & the way they fit together so well. Rocket also has some really great date ideas!

What a marvelous romance! Two endearing over 30 year old characters are brought together by a meddling, matchmaking, precocious 91 year old under false pretenses. But Rocket Long and Jayme Caldwell hit it off much to her memaw's delight. She's at a crossroads in her life and he has almost given up on finding his "one." A near tragedy almost robs them of a future but their HEA is meant to be!

Slow, not a lot of excitement

Normally I love Susan’s books. But this one? Very slow, no excitement and too hurried for the falling in love story line

3.0 FEEL GOOD ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Although this book is part of the Delta Team 2 series, Rocket (his real name, not a moniker) is not a Delta Operative. He works on the Army base as a helicopter mechanic. Jayme is an amazing baker and cook. Her dream is to open her own bakery. With Rocket’s business acumen, coupled with Jayme’s scrumptiously decadent baked goods, her dream, her vision, becomes a reality. Another element that provides levity to the story is the prominence of Winnie, Jayme’s 90 year old grandmother. Winnie is actually responsible for bringing Rocket and Jayme together, via deceptive means of course. (Winnie was first introduced in Book 3, as Brain and Aspen’s next door neighbor). She’s still a hoot and one feisty, unforgettable lady. (Brain and Aspen have a cameo appearance in this book.)

This couple is fantastic together and absolutely lovable. Rocket, well he’s to die for. There is really no angst to speak of in the story. I find that most of the conflicts in the book involve the insecurities that Jayme and Rocket feel inwardly. As they move forward, they must learn to trust each other and let go of their fears and insecurities. All told this is a thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing read. Anyone in the mood for a great book that will keep you smiling and feeling blissful and a story that is swoon-worthy, this is definitely the one to read.

SHIELDING JAYME is the fourth instalment in Susan Stoker’s contemporary, adult DELTA TEAM TWO, romantic suspense series. This is baker Jayme Caldwell, and helicopter mechanic Rocket Long’s story line.

NOTE: SHIELDING JAYME was first released in the multi-authored 'Tis The Season for Romance.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Jayme and Rocket) SHIELDING JAYME follows the building romance and relationship between baker Jayme Caldwell, and helicopter mechanic Rocket Long. Having moved from Seattle to Killeen Texas after her dreams of owning her own bakery died, Jayme moved in with her Grandmother in an effort to reconsider her future plans but Jayme never expected her Memaw to play matchmaker. Enter helicopter mechanic Rocket Long. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Rocket and Jayme, and the potential fall-out as danger comes to Killeen on Christmas Eve.

SHIELDING JAYME is a story of family, friendships, goals and ideals. The premise is impassioned; the characters are flirty and passionate; the romance is tender, provocative and intense.

I generally don’t rate novellas , it just doesn’t seem like a reasonable comparison to full length novels. This was a delightful read, jayme and rocket are sweet individuals clearly in love forever. My only complaint is o want a bit more oomph to their story, the dark moment was too brief to give that 3rd act drama that clinches the HEA, not that doubt them but I just would have appreciated a little more drama

This was a sweet novella. Well written and a very sweet love story. A little disappointing as it really is not about the Delta team. Not sure why it is considered part of the series. The only connection is that one of the Delta team is a neighbor. There also isn't the usual level of suspense that I love with Ms. Stoker's books. It also said on the Amazon synopsis that the book was 166 pages, but once I got it into my kindle, it was only 107 pages. Amazon also listed it as book 4 in the Delta Team Two series. I'd have waited till it went on sale if I'd known it was so short and not really about the Delta team. Other than that, it is a really well written and sweet story. Only took me about a half hour to read tho. I prefer a longer story, especially if price is that for a full book.

Unfortunately, this is probably my least favorite of Susan Stoker's books. I liked the characters, but barely anything happened. There was one action scene that took a few pages, and that was it. Plus, while this is part of her Delta Team Two series, it's only tangentially related, and the guys (and gals) of the rest of the series barely make cameo appearances. Stoker can do so much better. I'm disappointed.

Winnie is the spunky old lady who lives across the street from Brain and Aspen. Her granddaughter, Jayme, comes to stay with her after she loses her dream of buying the bakery she’s worked at for years. Winnie has great plans set Jayme up with Rocket, a 40 year old helicopter mechanic she met at the grocery store. While it is a sweet love story, it feels out of place in the series, since it isn’t directly about anyone on the team. I read the ebook. 3.5/5

Not much to this book. It was okay because it was part of a series where some of the other characters were familiar.

Enjoyed the book but kept looking for the Delta Team guys.

expect much adventure.

I read the third book in this series just after it released last year and I was planning to read this novella once it released in January! I'm not sure why I didn't read it as soon as it released, but I finally decided to pick it up! After reading, I can say that I loved this novella! The plot developed at the perfect pace and it only took me a few sittings to read because I didn't want to put it down! There wasn't ton of action and suspense or anything leading to some in the plot, but there was a tense scene that shook the plot and changed things for the main characters! There was plenty of romance in the plot and I loved the way it developed between the main characters! It allowed for quite a few seriously hot scenes and lots of sexual tension as well! I loved that characters from the other books made appearances in this book! The characters were also amazing and made this novella even better! Jayme was the main female character, and in this book I felt for her because she was living with her grandmother and was trying to figure out what she wanted to do with her life! I loved Jayme in this book and she found love, a home, and achieved with by turning her passion into her own business! She came a long way and achieved a lot! It was easy to see how much she cared about her grandmother as well! Rocket was the main male character and love interest of Jayme! I loved Rocket a lot in this book! Like all of this author's male characters, he was was the perfect book boyfriend and he was very alpha male! Rocket was also slightly insecure about his height, but he never intimidated Jayme and he made her feel safe! It was also easy to see how he felt about Jayme and he was protective of her and wanted her to be happy! I loved that this novella was written from both Jayme and Rocket's point of views! I was expecting it to be because the other books in this series have been written this way! I loved that ti was because it helped me connect more with both characters and see their feelings for each other grow and get into their heads more and see what they really wanted! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as Jayme and Rocket did go through some situations by themselves and it allowed for more things to happen in the plot! The ending of this book was also left at the perfect place and it really summed up Jayme and Rocket's story and how far they had come! I now can't wait to read the next book in this series! I know that it's already released and it's going to focus on a secondary character in the series! I'm definitely going to be making it my next read and I can't wait to find out what's going to happen in it! The cover for this book is also seriously hot! It would definitely draw me to the book if I didn't already know the author's name and I love it a lot! The cover model is also the perfect Rocket!

Don't judge the series by this book. If you've read the first 3 books of the series and are expecting more of the same with this one, you'll be disappointed. The characters in this book were flat. The storyline is flat and unengaging. Other than Winnie being Brain's next door neighbor (from book 3), this story has NOTHING to do with the Delta team. Rocket isn't even in the military anymore and was never special forces. Skip this book...not worth the time or money!

Shielding Jayme: Delta Two Book two is by Susan Stoker. This book is different from all the other books of hers I have read in that Rocker is no longer a Delta soldier, he is a helicopter repairman for a contractor who works on helicopters used by Delta Forces. He does not save Jayme from terrorists who have kidnapped her. That said, it does not hurt the book’s action at all. It is more of a romance than an adventure which is a change for her.
Rocker is huge and intimidates people just by his size, much to his dismay. He had been in the armed forces but had gotten out because he wanted a family and the military was not conducive for the type of life he wanted. He had his house and had the kitchen and bathrooms furnished in the top of the line finishes that a woman should love and appreciate. Now, he just had to find his lady.
Jayme had come down to be with her grandmother who was aging whether she liked it or not. Winnie just needed someone to check on her once in a while. Jayme needed a place to recover. She had worked ten years in a bakery where the owner had promised Jayme to sell it to her when she decided to get out of the business. She had turned more and more responsibility over to Jayme so it came as an unpleasant surprise when the owner came to her and told Jayme that her nephew had bought the business and would be taking over. She wanted Jayme to train him. Instead of doing what was best for the bakery, the nephew began cutting corners and staff until Jayme quit. She had been thinking of starting her own bakery; but just hadn’t.
Then Winnie stepped in. She asked Jayme to prepare an exceptional meal to celebrate and she also invited Rocker for dinner. Winnie told her to change into a nice dress for dinner like she had. That was when Jayme began to think something fishy was going on. It was, as Jayme found out when Rocket came to the door and Winnie suddenly remembered an engagement she had to be at. Because dinner was already, she asked Rocket to stay. They hit it off and decided to be friends. Could this last? Would fate step in and put Jayme in danger?

Any book by Susan Stoker deserves at least 10 stars!

I’ve read all of Susan Stoker’s books and anxiously wait for each new one. Shielding Jayme was a sweet, old fashioned love story. Absolutely wonderful!
