A rock God, standing before my people. My fans. Soaking in the accolades. Until I’m not… Until I’m over 7000 miles away from all I’ve ever known. So far out of my comfort zone in a barren, hick town in the middle of freaking nowhere. For three months!! How will I survive?
Harper: Hot. Dusty. Unforgiving. A vast expanse of the Australian outback. My world. My haven. Until it’s not… Until HE arrives. All arrogance, swagger and forbidden temptation. With no idea what he’s in for. A newbie to this land who will break in the first week. He won’t survive.
I fell for Zayne and Harper's story from page one. Zayne is a rockstar god, and in need of a change, finds himself in the Australian outback on a sheep farm. Harper can’t seem to find anyone to help on the sheep farm, and then Zayne shows up, and instantly sparks fly between them. I really enjoyed the angst and the banter in this story. This is my first book by this author and definitely not my last.
BROKEN HILL was my first read from Author Amanda Mackey, and while it wasn’t my typical read, it was one that I still enjoyed. Sweet and slow-burn are words that describe it’s romantic content, but it definitely didn’t mean boring, because it wasn’t at all. There was plenty of forward movement in the plot development and the relationship between all characters, especially between Zayne Cadwell and Harper Young. It was set in the vast Australian Outback on a sheep station and I absolutely enjoyed an insight into all that entails.
Harper was a young lady who’d experienced trauma in her young life and in living with her Grandmother near the town of Broken Hill, and shouldering the responsibility of the farm, she was truly coming into her own. I admired her strength and fortitude, and the love between her and her Granny was the stuff of unconditional legends. Her forte leaned towards the training of unbroken or problem horses, and I really loved her horse whispering talent and patience with them.
Rockstar Zayne and his band were on the edge of making their major break, but an excess of rocker vices were set to bring one band member to an early end. They needed him to clean up, and the boys had three months to cool their heels before the next tour started. Through an uncle, he found himself helping out on a sheep station, and I loved the reactions of the locals at Broken Hill who expected him to buckle under the physical pressure and run for the hills!!!
Each of the secondary characters played an integral part to our couple’s story and I loved the witty banter between them all. It was truly an awesome, and wholesome story to have laid my hands on. With a strong sense of family connections, strong morals, slow burn, healing, and unconditional love BROKEN HILL kept my attention from go to whoa. The chemistry between Zayne and Harper was the balm to both of their souls and Ms Mackey wrote what could have been some difficult parts with plenty of emotion and beautiful sensitivity. Our girl was strong, as were those who loved her.
What was always at the back of my mind was that Zayne’s time was always going to come to an end. Rockstars have contractual obligations, albums to cut and tours to perform, and I wondered how the budding romance between our couple would come to a resolution.
If reads at the sweeter slow-burn end of the romantic spectrum are your jam, then I highly recommend BROKEN HILL. 4-Stars 🐎🖤🎸

Zayne and Harper....two completely diffferent people, on opposite sides of the world, unlikely to meet, let alone fall in love. Zayne is an American rockstar in need of a change while on a three month hiatus from touring with his band. Harper runs a sheep farm with her grandmother, while hiding from a traumatic past. Zayne gets roped into working at the farm on his break, but doesn't reveal his true identity. Harper has secrets too. Can Zayne help her face her past? Can she help Zayne see what he really needs is right in front of him? Or will both of their secrets/pasts tear them apart?
This was my first book written by this author, but definately won't be my last. The story was well written and engaging, with some unexpected twists along the way. There was a slow burn to the story, that had me on the edge of my seat wondering if they get their HEA. I throughly enjoyed the story and would highly recommend it as a 5 star, must read book!

This is a well written book that will hold your interest from the beginning. You'll feel a part of the surroundings and a part of the characters lives. “Broken Hill” by Amanda Mackey was a great book that I really enjoyed reading. This Author is new to me but I fell into this story very easily. Harper Young, who runs her grandmother’s sheep farm in Broken Hill, the Australian Outback, hires Zayne, a rock star from LA who’s looking for a break away from his band and the congestion that LA brings. Keeping his profession a secret, he steps into the role of ranch hand. Harper and Zayne have chemistry and you can’t help but want to root for them. This story takes you on a roller coaster of emotions, touching on past traumas, betrayal of trust and the beauty of budding friendships/relationships. The story flowed nicely with a few twists and turns just to keep you on your toes. I loved how everything turned out and I will look forward to reading more from this Author! ~ Angie❤️

Once in Australia he meets Harper and his world is tipped upside down! They try to stay away from each other. That doesn't work out well so funny. Grandma help out alot in advice. Zayne and Harper learn to accept help in life and love. Funny how the rock God falls for a horse whisperer and the ranch. How will it all work out for these two from two different worlds. Read their love story to find out how it can work out!!!!! Finding the HEA down under.
Harper Young was running with a bad crowd till she was sent to her grandmother's sheep station. It was hard work but with that hard work, she found her place in the world. Zayne Caldwell, front man and lead singer for Backstage. For 3 months he will be helping out the Young's anonymously. From the very beginning, there was a spark between them. Gran warned Harper but the heart what the heart wants. Problems in Los Angeles, are calling him back. The only problem, Australia crept under his skin and he no longer wants to go back to his old life. The ending was perfect.
The lead in an American rock band and an Australian horse whisperer can they make it work? He, Zayne, in a rock band just starting to make it just comes off of a tour for a three month break and needs to find himself. She, Harper, a badly treated sex abused gal from the Outback, trying to prove herself. A great story with a HEA ending. A definite worthwhile read. Thank you BookSirens, for the copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sweet trauma romance where the female has to over come her past and present to let her walls down and open her mind and heart. Rockstar city boy, Zayne needs a break from life and ends up in a nowhere, small town across the world at his Uncles request. 2 worlds collide and choices have to be made to make this small town, rockstar romance have a HEA
On an Australian sheep farm the lead vocal of a top american band is there to lend a helping hand during three month band hiatus. The gradual letting guards down and opening up to one another makes interesting. Love the banter between them and overcoming their demons. *I was given a copy and am voluntarily giving my honest review.
I loved this! Trying something so far outside of your comfort zone could be amazing! Like maybe finding what your life has been missing, even though you don't realize it's missing. I loved being able to picture the scenes in my head when the author gives a great description of it, this book does that.
Zayne has a touring break and needs a change. Harper can't find help for the sheep farm that keeps her inner demons at bay. When they meet and sparks fly, both try to keep themselves in check. I enjoyed the flirting, angst, and some suspense.
I liked this story for the unique aspect of a rock star going into the Australian outback. It has the instant connection love but in a sweet way. The build up of their relationship was well thought out. Overall a good read.
Really enjoyed this read! Zayne and Harper is a slow burn love. The Rock Star who is drawn in by the simple life and hard work. This one is definitely worth the read!❤
