FBI super-profiler Agent Meredeth Connelly begins her hunt for The .40 Caliber Killer. She collects evidence. He collects families. Her headaches become more unbearable with each crime scene, with each dead child.
With two decades of experience, she knows serial killers. As the body count rises, it’s clear that this serial killer knows her. She doesn't remember him. He'll never forget her. As the investigation progresses, something awakens within her that hints at an answer.
Dreams? Hallucinations? Memories?
She doesn't know which. But if she can't get it under control, she'll never catch The .40 Caliber Killer.
E.H. Vick had done it again. He is keeping everyone on their toes and the characters are always interacting. Wonderfully written with always wanting to get to the next page as fast as we can. No distracting “side bars” to stop the flow! We are now more into the life of Mercy than before. Ending has me anxious to get on with it. Totally recommend it and a 5 star review.
Savannah Savior, prequel - An interesting and intense read. Meredeth, an FBI agent and profiler, creates some of the intensity with her pain. Her two male cohorts are also good characters sharing a gamut of emotions over Meredeth's pain and the investigation. The story lines are interesting. 4*
Mercy Forsaken, #1 - Interesting. Intense. Good characters and good story lines made it hard to put the book down. Good pace through out the story. I had a problem with the FBI accusing a law officer of being the serial killer; there was not enough evidence. While all the Evil was terrible, one scene was especially brutal. The murders were described with minimum detail, not graphically gory. Meredith finally woke up and sought help for her migraines. While not exactly a cliffhanger, the story continues. 4*
Her Last Sunset, #2 - Begins about a year after Mercy Forsaken ends. Rather intense, good paced and extremely hard to put down. I figured out the unsub's helper but got a big surprise on how wrong and right I was. The story goes back and forth in time but the well thought-out story lines keeps everything interesting and immersing. Good characters and interesting dialogues. The murders are not gory graphic and the vulgar language is not excessive. 5*
Mile Marker 33, # - Awesome read. I like the depth of detail that the author writes about Meredith's health problems from the stabbing. If course, he has the medical experience of what she went through, less the stabbing. I recommend starting this series from the beginning, but a new reader won't be confused by starting with MM33. There are continuous and new story lines so while not a cliffhanger the story continues. Good characters and good dialogues with a minimum of profanity. Interesting. Intense. Difficult to put down. 5*
Meredeth Connelly is an FBI agent that is on the hunt for the .40 Caliber Killer serial killer who is slowly making its way through families. There seems to be a connection, what is it, who are they, how are they connected?
Typically in most books it is the protagonist that draws me in, unfortunately, I just couldn’t relate to the Meredith in this story. I found I wanted more from her simply because she has two decades of experience working on serial killer cases.
The supporting characters were interesting and well rounded. I found myself wanting to know more about them and enjoying their dark humor that they brought to the story. I will say the story sucked me in regarding the secondary antagonist and left me hating them as the story progressed.
The main antagonist and his sociopathic tendencies were developed in a way that captured my interest and left me not wanting to antagonize him.
Over all E.H. Vick Mercy Forsaken was an enjoyable thriller to read with a few cheeky twists to the story hidden in the final pages of the book. I like that this book can be read as a stand alone book or as part of the Mind Hunt Thrillers series.
Please note, I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Well what a fantastic read. A psychopathic serial killer that ‘collects’ families and Agent Meredith Connelly is the profiler tasked with catching him, if she can just get her crippling migraines under control and what about her disturbing dreams? Are they a symptom of the migraines and stress of her job or does Meredith have some deeply buried memories trying to re-surface? A disturbing but completely absorbing story, I liked the characters, I loved the gradual revelations and I want to know if there’s another book that follows on? I’m off to find out.
The narrator can make or break a book, I find it so disappointing If the narrator doesn’t deliver what the story needs but I’m glad to say there were no such problems here, a fabulous delivery.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. This is one more awesome book. The characters are realistic, broken to some extent (like the rest of us), determined, and caring. They feel like people you could know in your real life, not like overblown superheroes. The story is deep, dark, twisted, heartbreaking, and full of red herrings to keep the reader on their toes. The action is intense (so much so that during an especially tense part my dog unexpectedly started barking and I nearly jumped out of my skin!). I very much enjoyed the writing style with the reader knowing only what the main characters do. No pulling rabbits out of hats or knowledge out of thin air. I highly recommend this author and this series. I can't wait to see what's next.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author but it definitely won’t be my last. I love books with strong female protagonists and the author manages to create a woman both strong and vulnerable. The story is part procedural, part psychological suspense, and has a sprinkle of almost romance. The search for the killer is engrossing with some starts and stops before it is solved. The book is well written, so much so that I was looking up some words in the dictionary, an unusual occurrence for me. Definitely a book you don’t want to miss and an author you’ll want to follow.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Great read Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2022 Agent Connelly is determined to get the strangler. He’s dumping them in the river so nothing for CSI to collect. This guy is way smart. Connelly is having headaches and using caffeine and a drink to help get them under control. The local cop they are working with thinks she a drunk. Connelly and her partner Van Zandt are not coming up with anything. Connelly heads for the streets hoping to entice the perp. Will it work? We’ll see. Really enjoyed this book.
I loved this police procedural/thriller. Meredith Connelly hunts a serial killer who kills families. She has very bad headaches and has been having nightmares or memories, she's not sure which, but she has to put her problems on the back burner if she is to catch the killer. This story is well written with red herrings and twists that kept me turning the pages anxiously wondering what would happen next. The killer's identity surprised me. I would highly recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
I kind of stumbled on to this author, and boy am I glad! Meredith Connelly is the FBI's best profiler, a tough woman who forsook all to get where she is now. But at what price? Suffering from near debilitating migraines (and insisting they are just headaches), she is also plagued by a mystery stalker who knows too much about the case. Luckily her partner Bobby and a local lawman have her back in this gruesome investigation. The twists will keep you on your toes and the characters will keep you coming back for more!
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

Hooked? Yes I am... Something about buried memories resounds with me.. FBI profiler Connelly feels something awakening in her mind. Is it this case, all these innocent kids? Her head hurts worse with every death.. Why?? It is like the scenes are talking to her more so then most.. What will happen when the floodgates open?? I think I know who ultimately is behind all this, but will have to see.. I'm thinking someone needs to go protect Dawn.. I am thrilled with this series!!
Received as ARC. A great start to a new series. FBI agents, Meredeth Connely and Bobby Van Zant are assigned to a case of a string of murders. They all happened in trailer parks, with a set order of the deaths in each. Meredeth tackles the case head on, while battling fierce migraines. She begins to piece together more of her past, and wonders if it could be related. A great story line with well done characters.
These books, I’ve read two, are excellent if you love serial killer stories! I always wonder about the imaginations of some authors (Mr King), and am so thankful that actual killers aren’t as creative, or as smart. Another great read, and I highly recommend this, and I’m going to jump to a conclusion here, and all of Mr Vick’s books. These are actual ‘can’t turn the page fast enough’ reads! Enjoy!
Who is Mercy? Why is ace profiler, Meredeth Connelly being plagued by nightmares of Mercy's abusive childhood? When a serial killer targets families and goes on a killing spree, Meredeth has a herculean task of apprehending the psychopath who seems to have in depth details of her. A well crafted plot on police procedures. I enjoyed reading this page turner which was not only suspense filled but portrayed a profiler's assessment of a dangerous psycho very accurately.
For me, a good book is one that keeps me interested and that I read through quickly. Mercy Forsaken did that. Thrilling bits that made me want to know what was going to happen next. There were some things in the reporter part of the storyline that I couldn't suspend my disbelief about which annoyed me. I would still recommend!
Meredith Connelly , a super profiler with the FBI , is hunting a serial killer . She learns about her past , terrifying her. Exciting reading that keeps you wanting to pick up the book instead of doing chores kudos to the author . . Well written and maybe one typo. I'm on to the next story .
You have to read this. Writing is excellent. Great usage of vocabulary and descriptions of characters, events and the protagonist’s issues are we’ll hashed out. Her physical descriptions during her migraines are spot on. Her suffering from PTSD is real. WARNING. Some scenes are scary and can be triggering if you are a survivor of abuse.
Great characters very intense. Very dark and still enjoyable story. Excellent story plenty of interaction. Again Meredith is looking into another serial killer but it might have something to do with her past which she doesn't know due to past trauma.
E.H has done it again, only better! He keeps your mind on everything and everyone involved in the story. It doesn’t drift away as some stories do. Great plot and I am going after the next one now!
More like, Super Hot Mess. So real in her flaws, you almost want her to be real. A step above Jodie Foster's character in Silence of the Lambs. Magnificent story telling. Thrilling read right up to the end.
This is a fascinating story about an FBI agent. Full of intense action, suspense, intrigue and drama throughout the story. I thought the storyline was well thought out.
Fooled by all the good reviews I was sorely disappointed in this novel. Meredeth is an egotistical bore. The mean reporter was completely unbelievable. The serial killer yarn is not bad but frankly it was not worth the tedium to get there. Did not like.
A little hard to follow at first, but I enjoyed reading it once it got more into the story line. The background of Meredeth was very interesting, and I look forward to reading the next book.
Wow this is a beautifully written nail biting thriller that I could not put down. It ends with an unexpected twist and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Well worth Reading.
Wow 1st time reading E.H. Vick! I have got my ticket for the next ride with Connelly. I am wondering how Meredeth, is gonna make this person pay for all of deaths.
The book starts out with a series of murders with the same modus operandi. Meredith is still dealing with her headaches. As her investigation continues, there are many twists and turns, including emotional and personal ones. I thought there were several possibilities regarding the identity of the unsub. I was surprised to learn who it was and what he'd done. This is an interesting read and left me anticipating what will happen in the next book.
