Deeper Than a Devotional

Rate this book
In a society where we as Believers are suppose to use scriptures to comfort us, God did not give us His Holy Word to comfort us in our sin. God’s Word should ultimately point us to the path that leads to Jesus.

Yes, people are encouraged by our testimony, how we overcame our struggles and how we made it through. But please remember when you speak on various trials and tribulations you have overcome be careful not to make yourself the hero of the story because in all honesty, who are you?

Despite who you may encourage or inspire with your story, the Scripture is the MOST important part of a devotional. There is no power in a “motivational speech”. The power lies in God’s Holy Word.

I didn’t just write these devotionals to uplift, inspire and encourage. I also wrote them to remind us to remain in a state of accountability. God’s Holy Scriptures are meant to shed light to our dark places. The Scriptures should be a mirror to show you, YOU!

Devotionals are designed for individuals to increase their contentment with everything they possess in their lives. Since becoming a good Christian woman with a passion for sharing the words of the Lord, I would like to share the following Scripture that should remind everyone reading this that you're far more than what you perceive yourselves to be. For without the powerful words of the Lord, any story that I might share about myself as a testimony for a possible devotion regarding any particular topic would be just a story.

Let me begin with what is written in MATTHEW 6:25-26 [NKJV]:

[25] "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
[26] Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

And a few verses later, in MATTHEW 6:32-33 [NLT], we're told the following:

[32] These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.
[33] Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

And in seeking the Kingdom of God, the result can be found by reading PHILIPPIANS 4:12-13 [NLT]:

[12] I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
[13] For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Now think about what the above would be like without the inclusion of Scripture; it would be without substance. Just like I've tried to demonstrate in the above regarding my life, so does author Tiffany Smith in this book. This is why in her description of this book, she wrote:

"Despite who you may encourage or inspire with your story, the Scripture is the MOST important part of a devotional. There is no power in a "motivational speech." The power lies in God's Holy Word."

For wanting to enlighten her readers regarding the powerful nature of the Lord's words in increasing the strength of any personal testimony for the Lord, I've given Ms. Smith the 5 STARS she deserves.
