For all of the Elizabeth Hunter fans out there hold on to your panties as we get the beginning of Spider and Daisy’s story and it is charming, delightful and all round feel good romance. And waaaay to short.
Daisy Rivera the golden gal of Metlin, perfect grades, town favourite is being badgered to go to college. She has the grades but it isn’t what she wants in life. Everyone in her family and I mean everyone is planning her future for her to be a doctor or a lawyer. The first in the family to go to college. The pressure is too much. Daisy would rather stay and run the family café if it was up to her.
I adore Daisy, it is hard to stand up to your parents. She is loyal, has a heart of gold and only wants to do the right thing. I was rooting for Daisy the whole time.
Manuel Spider Villalobos just known as Spider moved to Metlin due to a tragedy and wanting to get away from the gang in LA. He keeps his head done and works hard, but he can’t stay away from Daisy and he doesn’t want to.
Spider is one of my favourite Heroes and he is simply the best. He is sweet, adorable and loyal to the bone. He has the heart even if he thinks he doesn’t. Keeping it real here but I didn’t need his past to show up, IMO it was a mere distraction that is why I docked a star.
On the surface it seems that these two don’t work but with Ms. Hunter’s flawless writing she breathes life into these two and they complement one another. They work even if they have different backgrounds. But they have chemistry and they are hot and spicy peeps.
Once again an outstanding read has been created filled with emotions and showing that life’s journey not a destination (thank you Steve Tyler)
We have at the end a spark of hope for more of the Riveras, Oroscos, Mendels and Rojases which would be frigging amazeballs.
This is a great addition to the Love Stories on 7th and Main series by Elizabeth Hunter. It’s actually a prequel, set before the other books in the series, and is the story of locals Spider and Daisy, showing us how they got together all those years ago – but you can read it at any time, or as a standalone.
Daisy is a young girl with her whole life in front of her. Intelligent and driven, her parents have big plans for her to be the first in her family to attend college, and she certainly has the grades to get there. But what she really wants is to stay in her home town of Metlin and run the family café.
Spider is a talented tattoo artist who has only been in Metlin for a little while, but after running from a tragic past and desperate for a fresh start, he has finally found a place where he feels settled and welcome.
Daisy and Spider have been crushing on each other from afar, but she has been too shy to do anything about it, and he doesn’t want to drag her into his messy, possibly dangerous life. They could not be more different. But when they finally connect, they discover that they have more in common than they thought, and the attraction that they’ve ignored from afar proves way too hard to resist when they eventually get up close and personal.
This is such a gorgeous romance. Daisy and Spider are both fantastic characters who follow their hearts, despite the challenges they face, and I loved watching them come together! Daisy in particular is wonderful as the strong woman who refuses to let the man she cares for push her away, and though Spider may seem like a tough badass, he is the biggest sweetheart, and I love how he cares for Daisy.
They both have some pretty significant issues to deal with, and we get to watch them do just that, and I loved watching these two find their happy place together in Metlin. It’s made me want to go back and do a reread of the series, so I may do just that!
Cute read – 3.5 stars.
An Advanced Review Copy was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Sweet is that chocolate cake you've been craving, and once you bite it, your heart warms, it feels like a hug. Spider and Daisy's story is short and sweet. A perfect balance between seriousness, chemistry, lovely people and love. I loved going back to Metlin, and I'm hopeful that we'll see these beloved characters again in the future.
Ja varonis būs viens no šiem, es to grāmatu lasīšu. Pat ja tā būs totāls trash, ko mierīgi varēja ignorēt. Tās vienkārši ir manas vājības.
Šī grāmata nav trash kategorija. Es to liktu kategorijā - ne līdz galam izstrādāta chick lit romantic shit.
Vienīgā lieta, kas man gāja caur kauliem kā nagi pret tāfeli bija tas, ka viņš to čiepu uzrunāja ''princesa''. Tas man tik ļoti uzsita to creepy ''baby girl'' no 367 or whatever cik dienas filmas netflixā, kur tas mafijozņiks lūrēja uz to sievieti un ''are you lost, baby girl?''.
Netiek rakstīta to attīstība.
''Person's accomplishments aren't who they are. They're just the things they've done.''
Man patika atsevišķas detaļas. Piemēram, šī bija pirmā grāmata, kurā čiepa pasaka čalim, ka viņai nesanāk orgasms tikai no vnk seksa.
I have waited on BATED BREATH for Spider and Daisy’s story! IT WAS PERFECTION! This is everything I could have asked for and then some. I have never read a book more aptly named! I fell hard for the younger Spider and would pretty much give you any amount of money if he could just be real for one minute and call me his Princesa! I enjoyed seeing Daisy become the person we know and love. Her sweet outlook and strong uplifting personality shines brightly into the shadows of Spider’s life, and leads them to the future we know they are destined for.
It was a special treat seeing these characters in the past and getting to meet Emmie’s gramma. I adore the new Metlin but had no idea I’d fall in love with older Metlin just as much! Now I’m off to reread Ink…again…just to see these 2 in the story once more! Get this book and escape for just a bit into this Sweet story!
A truly sweet story! I always liked Spider and was wondering about his past. I'm glad my curiosity was finally satisfied. The way he's turned his life around is inspirational. Daisy's story hit a little too close to home. It reminded me of the time when my parents crushed my dreams of the future and there was nothing I could do about it. Here I am (over 60 years later) and I am still not over it. So, I enjoyed seeing Daisy stand up to her family and getting her wishes to come true. All in all, this is one of the 'sweetest' love stories I have read in a long time.
“Sweet” is definitely sweet and spicy, and the perfect novella to curl up with this holiday season!
I’ve loved Spider and Daisy from the beginning of the 7th and Main series, and I was so excited to get a glimpse into their story. Going back in time, we learn how they met - including a series of endearingly delightful meet-cute moments, made hilarious by Spider’s, ah, unique narration style and Daisy’s perfect combination of temper and crush-induced awkwardness. (I love Spider’s POVs. Absolutely amazing.) It is a wonderful story, and kudos must be given for one of the most incredible phone-number-exchange-scenes I’ve ever read.
But unfortunately, nothing is simple, and both Daisy and Spider have to come to terms with whether staying together in Metlin will endanger their futures and the people they care about.
Happy as always to have the chance to return to the 7th and Main series with an early copy of “Sweet” - and one I definitely recommend!
you are telling me this is the cover for book four in a series...
after this
and this
and this
and apparently, the first three books got similar cartoon covers
the original covers are some of the best in the contemporary genre new ones are just like all other books nowadays And I am not saying the illustrated cover can't be cute but WHAT IS THIS?! UGH...
ANYWAY about the book. I really loved it. It gave me soulmate type of love. Really swoony and sweet. The author conveyed their connection so well. I could FEEL IT!
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Sweet, and let me tell you I missed the town and the people. When I got the ARC and started reading it, it was like coming home to old friends. I have been dreaming of the day that Daisy and Spider got their own story. It was impossible for me to put the book down. I was entranced with this story. I adore Daisy's stubbornness and determination for never wanting to give up here dreams and what she wants. Even if that means letting down a few people , for what she wants. I love Spider! Spider is a tattooed hottie from L.A. and very private person. Metlin took him in without question. Even if he was tattooed from head to toe, the people accepted him and didn't question his motives, and helped him on his second chance on a life. I found it so cute that Spider went into Maya's Cafe every morning just so he could get a look at Daisy. These two are so great for each other. So when they finally connect it's spicy with a side of sweetness. This couple deserves their happily ever after. I was rooting for them from page 1. Another fantastic read from Elizabeth.
If you're looking for the perfect Novella to read while snuggled up with a hot cup of coffee, then snag this up! I loved traveling back in time to Metlin to read about how Daisy and Spider got their start. From the cringeworthy early encounter to kisses in a craft store to the small Christmas decorations, everything about this was... you guessed it... sweet! Following your heart has never meant more than it does in Sweet. I loved every minute of this fun read.
I received an advanced copy of this in exchange for my honest review. I have been waiting for Spider and Daisy's story, since we first traveled to Metlin - and let me tell you - SWEET delivers! I admit that i read this short story in one sitting, unable to put it down because...well Spider, he is all things that intrigue me. He has all the 'ingredients' you want - heart, smarts, passion, and a bit of edge - the perfect combination for our Daisy. He brings out the sass in Daisy, her courage, her faith in herself and her dreams. We see the TRUE meaning of family - the people that push you, support you, love you - and have your back. I have to be honest, I adore how Elizabeth seamlessly intertwines cultures to show us that at the base of it all - whether your are cooking chiles, or making peanut butter n fluff sandwiches - we all come back to family, to sharing love, and joy - even when it may not be how we planned. I highly recommend this SWEET story, and now....I am off to re-read the 7th and Main stories!
I loved seeing Spider and Daisy’s story. Elizabeth Hunter is one of my favorite authors and she never disappoints. This was a cute, slightly hot read and now I need to do a reread of the rest of the series.
This is a very cute story about another Metlin couple. I can’t think of a better name for this book. It’s nice to be back in this small town and spend time with these wonderful characters. It’s a perfect short and sweet Christmas story.
If you have already read Ink in the 7th & Main series then you will love this look back in time to see how Daisy and Spider got together. If you haven't read that book yet then I would probably say read this one first. Treat it as Book 0.5 rather than Book 4. The title suits as it is a short but sweet novella. Two people from opposite backgrounds who fall in love at Christmas time. But it is as much about family as it is about Daisy and Spider, whether that means related by blood or not.
Gahhhh! I am in love with this novella. I have been wanting Daisy and Spider’s story and I’m so glad EH wrote it 😍 It was just everything I hoped for. Their chemistry is just magnetic and burns slow. I loved every single second.
If you haven’t read this series it is a MUST! So so amazing.
What an incredibly sweet (yeah I meant to do that) origin story of Daisy and Spider's romance. I loved every word of it and it was great meeting Emmie when she was still a teenager and getting to know her grandmother Betsy. Even though it's counted at #4 in the 7th & Main series--it's more like #0.5. But I digress, Spider is trying to build a life outside the gang he left behind. He's landed Metlin and is settling in nicely. He's a great tattoo artist and he knows it, he's willing to work hard to achieve his goals. He's definitely not a flashy guy.
Daisy is the golden girl of her family, they see her as the first to go to college to achieve the "American Dream." Daisy wants to stay and learn the family recipes and run the family diner. She's a hometown girl who has no desire to go to a fancy school for a diploma. She's also a good family girl who doesn't want to disappoint her family, not to mention they don't seem to be listening to her when she says she doesn't want to go.
Daisy has been crushing on Spider and vice versa for a while, so when they finally get together not only is it a "finally" moment not only for the reader but for Daisy and Spider. It was steamy but not too steamy and oh so sweet.
This little novella told a hella story in its pages--Loved every minute.
If you're looking for a quick Sweet and sassy romance to fill a few hours, then you have landed on the right book.
This is the story of how Daisy and Spider began their life together, and it really is an exceptional read. Elizabeth Hunter has given us a novella, that as usual, you get so immersed with the characters and the goings on, that you find you're at the end before you know it.
Daisy always knew what she wanted to do when the time came to have a career, and along comes Spider, and then she knew what she wanted in her man. I loved the supporting characters, and Tia Imelda is a trip. She was written in such a way, you just know she has some stories to tell.
I am so happy that Daisy and Spider got to tell their story, even though it was short. Would have like to live their wedding, because you know that was a huge affair... love the big family gathering. You won't be disappointed in this 7th and Main novella.
Daisy Rivera is small-town Metlin’s golden child, and she has the biggest crush on the mysterious former-gang member tattoo artist known as Spider. Spider’s past keeps him from putting down roots anywhere, but Daisy is ready to claim him as a member of the Metlin family… as long as his past doesn’t catch up to him first.
This book delivers exactly what the title promises - a sweet romance. But life isn’t all cherry pie and butterflies for these two. Total opposites, Spider and Daisy have a few roadblocks to overcome as they figure out what they want and what it will be worth.
I sped through this story! Told in alternating point of views, I liked being able to know what was going on in the main character’s minds as they came to terms with their attraction, seeing the events that lead them together, and knowing their motives for the ultimate decisions they have to make. My one critique is that there isn’t a lot of substance to the plot. Overall, this is a quick read if you’re looking for a cute romance with a bit of a bite to the sweetness inside.
Similar to the title of the novella, I found this read to be just that, Sweet.
This book is perfect for someone in the mood for a quick read without loosing any of the details and storyline of a full length novel. I did not want to start an additional full fledge book and was on the prowl for a rather short story to finish in a couple of hours. And this hit the spot.
Yes, it is technically a part of a series and listed as #4, but time frame wise you can read this first to dip your toes into the world of Metlin. I read the first book in the series and was first introduced to Spider and Daisy. I wanted to know their story so badly so I am thrilled to finally have had the time to read it.
"Good" girls want "bad" boys. Daisy was the pride of her family. Great grades, helpful in the family business, the first one to go to college. Spider is a tattoo artist with a sketchy past and a great body. Spider knows he's no good for Daisy. She is young and has a bright future. A guy like him doesn't fit into that picture. Daisy has other ideas. She has something she wants to tell her family but she can't bring herself to do it. Actually, she has a couple things on her mind that will cause a huge blowup. Maybe the "good" girl isn't perfect and the "bad" boy just needs someone that cares. Another wonderful book by Elizabeth Hunter. I totally enjoyed reading the story of Spider and Daisy. Truly, love conquers all. I was given a copy of this book to review. I also bought a copy.
This book is oh so sweet!! I love that we get to see Spider and Daisy's story, they are wonderful and I and I always wanted more of their story while I was reading the other 7th and Main books. I am so happy that Elizabeth decided to give us this glimpse. Sweet was a great read with both old an new faces and nothing but happiness!
Sweet by E. Hunter is book four in the 7th and Main series. Every book is a stand-alone. Daisy and Spider couldn't be more different from each other. The 20 year old with a big family and a bright future. And the ill educated loner artist don't have much in common, but love doesn't always makes sense and the heart wants what the heart wants. Sweet is just that. A sweet story, heart-warming with just the right amount of action and drama, a just right read, 5 stars.
It was great being able to get more insight into some of the characters of 7th and Main. I loved reading Spider and Daisy's story. Definitely a great read for the holidays! I read the novella in one sitting, it was sadly short and delightfully sweet glimpse back to the town of Metlin.
If I had to describe the book in one word: sweet. I was not really sold on the big drama turn-around. The ending felt abrupt, even if there was an epilogue. There was this build-up that made me expect somehow more. But it was like bam-slam we admit stuff and ta-da, it's done. Also, I am not sure if the way it was solved was at all realistic. Still. A sweet read
Just as perfect as I expected it would be. Elizabeth Hunter does not disappoint, this is another heartfelt, beautiful story. When I heard we were getting Spider and Daisy’s story, I just knew I was going to love it. They’ve always been this contrast of tough and cool, and sweet and kind. I always wondered how they got together. My curiosity was definitely satisfied. I loved getting to know them both better, and all my questions about Spider’s past were answered. We got to see Daisy’s smart and pragmatic side as well, which made me love and respect her even more. They are both gorgeous, good people. This story was sweet and touching, and I already know it’ll be a favourite reread of mine, so five stars from me. I recommend it, and this whole series, to any romance reader.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of Sweet and oh boy does it live up to its name!! My heart was so happy to be back in Metlin, and simply overjoyed to get Daisy and Spider's story. These 2 are exact opposites on the outside, but fit together like puzzle pieces. I only wish this were a real town so I could get Spider to do my next tattoo!
I love this entire series and I'm so glad we got Spider and Daisy's story. It felt good to go back to 7th and Main again and I'll definitely be adding this series to my list to read again and again.
Spider and Daisy have been exactly what i needed to read. Their love story was perfection with spice to keep me going. This is a stand-alone but trust me, you want to read this series. It is lighthearted, fun, and entertaining. You will love the characters and the community. Definitely recommend giving this book a try!
