Terumbu is a love story set in mid 19th century Singapore, of a young Riaupirate and the daughter of a penghulu, who objects to their relationship.Left with no choice, the star-crossed lovers elope to the sea but the arrivalof the British colonialists will a ect the future of the Malay Peninsula andchange their lives forever.
This is an amazing little graphic novel about forbidden love involving a pirate and a village chief's daughter. The story is well paced and entertaining throughout. The historical aspect of the story is also very interesting and a good reminder of what went on around Singapore's waters and Terumbu (reefs) which may not be as strange as we imagined it. The artwork by Cheah SinAnn is expectedly great, and together with a satisfying story, makes this a graphic novel worth reading.
