“He would endure the most difficulty for the sake of Allah and for the ease of the people.”

💭 Meeting Muhammad S.A.W through literature is enough to make me shed so much tears of longing and love for him. I can only imagine how overwhelming it is to be able to meet him in person. With its alternative povs from story telling narrative to second and third, this book takes us on a journey of getting to know Muhammad S.A.W through 30 reflections from his life. His physical beauty is as striking and stunning as his character. And his akhlaq is to be copied.

“If he was speaking about something pleasing which induced happiness, you would be able to detect emotions denoting cheerfulness from his tone and eyes. Conversely, if he spoke of something which induced anger or sadness.”

“Do not make your event exclusively small such that only the rich are invited. Instead, make it simple, inclusive, and open to the poor as well”.

💭 He jokes properly, very empathetic and understandable, inclusive of poor people, kind, generous, respectful, strong, brave, and smart. To cut it short, he possessed all the great qualities anyone could ever had. In one event, Anas R.A said that a woman who suffered from a mental illness approached the Prophet. She said she needed his help for something, and he told her he would be present to help. She could take him to any place she wanted to. He was the most important person in Madinan society, yet this woman could order him to come with her. The Prophet never complained or considered her to be insignificant, nor sees it as a burden.

💭 Tears-worth reads. Loving someone we have never met before sounds absurd, but that’s never the case with Rasulullah. Especially reading these narrations of him and his life. There’s so many things I wished to share here but it’s only fair for you to read it for yourself. I also shared a one-minute tiktok video of me reading an excerpt from this book that touches me deeply. Here’s the link https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSdMpW4Jd/

It's really impossible to describe the best person that walked on this earth with such a short book, but Omar Suleiman did a really good job. The last chapters were so painfully beautiful that it made me cry. ❤️‍🩹

We should try every day to become like our beloved Prophet (s.a.w) as he had the best of the characteristics. ❤️

"Meeting Muhammad" is a collection of short essays which aim to shed some light on our Prophet Muhammad SAW's character. The strength of this book lies in the simple and effective writing which do not veer too far into sentimentality when describing the Prophet of the ummah, and it's one that I'm very glad to have read since it increases my respect and love for the Prophet SAW. As we are not fortunate enough to live within the times of the Prophet to know him intimately as the sahabat did, reading about him and how he deals with family, friends, and his ummah through these vignettes (most of which are backed up by hadith) can bring us closer to him inshaAllah.

Bearing in mind that this is not a biography, I would say this book is a spiritual complement on any biography produced about Prophet Muhammad SAW. Definitely a recommended read.

I enjoyed listening to this book when I was cooking and washing dishes in Ramadan..
I loved Omar Suleiman's interpretations and stories of Rassoul Allah and I imagined him ﷺ in every moment telling myself: Oh HE WAS A GREAT MAN ﷺ !

the prophet ﷺ is an amazing human being. The more I know and read about him ﷺ, the more I want to be one of his companions.
May Allah bless us with Sabr until we meet him ﷺ.

Every time I read a seerah book or shamail, I cry at the end. Sh. Omar finished off the ending with a longing and hope to one day meet the Prophet SaaS in Jannah.

It refreshed our imaan instantly, highly recommended for all believer!

Kalau tetiba punya kesempatan buat ketemu Rasulullah, mau bilang apa ya?

Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) is a perfect example of how no matter what you do people will find ways to hate you. He ﷺ was mercy in human form, he cared about others, he helped others, he taught us Islam and the way of life, yet some people still despised him. I’d love to learn more and more about him. Even though this book is just a collection of short chapters that shed some light about him ﷺ I still learned a lot. It’s also a good short book if you know who Muhammad ﷺ is (a messenger of Allah) but would like to know more about his character. There’s also YouTube videos and podcast for it.

Here’s the YouTube one for those interested,

This book reintroduced and rekindled my love for Our Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). The way Imam Omar Suleiman explains is just beautiful. I could actually visualize all the moments with the Prophet (Peace be upon him) in each chapter. I also learnt so much stuff about him which I didn't know before or had forgotten. Highly recommend this book!

An insight into the life and livelihood of the greatest man on earth.

May Allah bless Omar Suleiman for writing such an intimate insight into the prophet and his life. The book is just how Omar Suleiman narrates incidents, precise and heart touching. His use of simple language to touch readers of all fronts is an intricate feature of the book. For a lot of us, we know of Muhammad (pbuh) but we do not know him fully. In this book, we dive deep into the life of Muhammad (pbuh), starting from his appearance to his dealings, livelihood and teachings.

Let me start off by saying that this book is not seerah type. It's more of an introduction to something, or in this case, someone. Reading through the book and following through it, you can see how the sahaba or people of Arabia viewed the Prophet (pbuh). You first see how he looked and then when you take the leap and start getting closer to the Prophet(pbuh), you see how he gave away in charity, how he lived the most humble lifestyle even after being the ruler of Makkah, how he behaved with his children, how he behaved with his spouse and so much more. It's as if you yourself are getting acquainted to the Prophet(pbuh) step by step. This journey is what makes this book beautiful.

For me, the starting was a little hard to get into, but once I got the hang of it, I finished it fairly fast.

All in all, get to Muhammad (pbuh). You will not be disappointed

I love this one! Edisi terjemahan bahasa Indonesianya masih enak banget buat dicerna.

He's literally perfectly perfect. Memang the best of mankind.

Allahumma shalli'ala Muhammad 🥲

SubhanAllah, this was an excellent read. Meeting Muhammad ﷺ is a fantastic description and walk-through of what it would be like to know the Prophet ﷺ personally. Each chapter is a different context in which we would theoretically encounter the Prophet ﷺ, and it is supported by narrations and stories of the companions and those close to him. This book is an excellent complement to "The Sealed Nectar." Meeting Muhammad ﷺ goes more in-depth into Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ character while gently referencing historical situations that are found within The Sealed Nectar in more detail. Overall, this was an excellent text by Imam Omar Suleiman to read in conjunction with the seerah of the Prophet ﷺ.

★★★★★ (5/5)
A selection of my favorite passages from the book

• He likewise had a beautiful natural scent, and his body would exude sweat which smelled like an elegant form of perfume. Those who shook his hand testified that the pleasant smell from it would remain on their own hands for days.
• smiling is an act of charity (Sadaqah), and the Prophet smiled towards members of his ummah as an act of generosity and in order to bring joy to their hearts. But at the same time, he would intensely weep to his Lord and pray for the joy and success of his ummah.
• a person should not be treacherous with their eyes. This prohibits one from winking and making inappropriate facial expressions behind someone’s back in a way that betrays them.
• He was endowed with the priceless gift of coherent language (hulw al-mantiq), where he would always speak in a beautiful and logical manner. He would directly address the point of contention when speaking
• When being addressed by someone, the Prophet would not just turn his head towards the speaker. He would make that person the centre of attention by turning his entire body towards them, to let them know that he was fully listening to what they had to say
• “Your wealth and children are only a test (fitnah).”
• They described the Prophet’s crying during his recitation as being a form of humming from the chest, which resembled the sound of a boiling kettle pot. This is very similar to how the Prophet’s laughter was inaudible, but instead more of a wider smile.
• the Prophet never sat in a gathering or session which totally lacked the remembrance of Allah, or contained anything sinful or objectionable
• when discussing worldly matters, the Prophet would only bring up matters of benefit
• bad dreams should not be narrated; instead, the person afflicted with one should seek refuge of Allah, and they will ultimately not be harmed
• “The leader of the people is their servant.”
• We also know that in respect to the Eid prayer, the Prophet would take one route to go to the place of prayer, and would trek another path when returning back home. The rationale for why he did so relates to motives based on spirituality (tazkiyah), as the use of a different route back home symbolises that one is adopting a new path in their life. Another explanation which the scholars have provided for this consistent prophetic practice is that by taking two paths the Prophet could issue his greeting (salam) to the inhabitants of the opposing sides (ahl al-ṭariqayn) of the neighbourhoods, regardless of which path they lived in.
• the Prophet expressed to us a very serious warning when he said: “The worst feast is the one to which only the rich are invited and the poor are excluded.”
• the greatest thing which the Prophet did for the newborn was to perform the tahnik process, where he would rub a chewed date against the palate of the newborn
• the Prophet told Abu al-Dardah that if he wanted to have his heart softened and have his provisions fulfilled in life, he should do the following: “Bring the orphan near to you, caress his hair, and feed him from the food that you eat. That will soften your heart and fulfill your needs.”
• perhaps the greatest virtue that the host derived was that the Prophet would bless their house by praying in it. By doing so, the owners of the house would feel a special connection with that specific location and take it as a place of prayer (musalla).
• the ruling on a certain joke depends on your intention, how it is employed, and who you are joking with
• The Prophet (S) would joke:
o in order to solidify the bonds with family, friends, orphans, youth, and other members of the wider community
o to relax anyone’s sense of nervousness
o to enable them to form authentic relationships
o as a means to defuse tensions and disputes
o to explain a complicated or sensitive concept
o to provide the ignored and overlooked members of society attention
o to raise the people in value and honour
• People who pray privately at night and give additional devotion to Allah are given a special lens to identify people who are in need, even if they do not verbally seek your help. Individuals who do not pray at night will not be blessed with this special form of intuition.
• The Prophet provided the people relief in three matters:
1. he would never degrade or abuse people
2. he would never search for the hidden and shameful shortcomings of people
3. he would never speak except in circumstances which he hoped to be rewarded for. This means that he shunned any vain, harmful, or prohibited speech, such as backbiting or gossip. Likewise, he would never initiate conversations which would cause the other side to feel ashamed or embarrassed.
• the anger of a typically cheerful person is significant, as it indicates a red line has been crossed. This is because such a person does not customarily become angry.
• Despite the serious wartime context, the Prophet observed the bird and realised that it was facing a predicament. He turned to the Companions and asked: “Who has hurt this one with regards to her child?” Ponder upon how this question has been beautifully phrased. If you did not know the background of the story, you would think that he was talking about an actual human, not a bird. But this shows how much outraged the Prophet had become, and how much pain he felt after seeing this bird fly around in this manner. One of the Companions then mentioned that they had taken some of this bird’s chicks. The Prophet ordered that they be returned back to the mother’s nest, so that they would be relieved.
• The Prophet had one golden rule: if you sought his forgiveness for a previous wrong, he would fully pardon you and let you begin with a fresh slate. It did not matter whether this wrong was a misdemeanor or a gross injustice. He would move on and fully commit himself to remembering his Lord during the night and seeking His forgiveness.
• “You were sent to bring ease to the people, and you were not sent to bring hardship.”
• On this matter, Anas ibn Mālik h said:“Not once did the Prophet have food for the next day.” This means that the Prophet lived his life on a day-to-day basis, without having any stable state of living.
• “O Ibn al-Khaṭṭab, are you not pleased to know that the Hereafter is ours while the world is theirs?”
• Regardless of whether one has lived in the past or in the present, they must always curb their perception of entitlement to this world by recalling how Allah’s most beloved person experienced severe poverty.
• the Prophet meant that his emotional response was a form of mercy that Allah b put in the soul; his tears were a form of divine mercy that Allah inspired in his heart
• Despite its metaphysical nature, the revelation would have its severe toll on the Prophet and press down upon him like a heavy weight.
• different beings of nature, such as rocks and trees, would both adore and greet him. It was astonishingly beautiful that even nature had an attachment with him. Related to this point, remember how the Prophet mentioned that the student of sacred knowledge receives dua from everyone and everything in the world
• The night prayer (al-qiyām) has a unique and eminent status in Islamic society. In fact, Ibn ʿUmar h stated that it will be the first act of worship to disappear from the Muslim community. Worship in the night consists of two fundamental ingredients: night prayers done after sleep (tahajjud), and raising the voice (raf al-ṣawt) during recitation
• The ummah in its entirety was included in the dua of the Prophet, regardless of whether you lived in his time period or not.
• As for the righteous person, Ibn ʿAbbās h mentions that when they die, the heavens cry when they leave this world. This is because the gate of the heavens which their good deeds used to pass through is no longer open. Likewise, their place of prostration (sajdah) on the earth weeps as well.
• At this point, one of the Companions asked: “O Messenger of Allah! What about those individuals from your ummah who will not be afflicted with the loss of a child?” He said in response: “Then I am the loss for my ummah, for they will not be afflicted with a loss like mine.”
• But he noted that on the Day of Judgement, he will be waiting by the Pool (Ḥawḍ) for them to come with a cup in his hand. He will ensure that all the generations of his ummah would be able to drink directly from his blessed hand. Longing for that moment is in fact an act of worship

Duas for Recitation

• “O Allah, I ask from you the ability to speak the word of truth in times of pleasure and anger.”
• “O Allah, give us more and not less, honour us and do not disgrace us, give us and do not withhold from us, choose us and do not choose others over us, and please us and be pleased with us.”
• “O Allah, I ask of you for faith that is not taken away, for blessings that do not expire, and the companionship of the Prophet in the Highest Eternal Garden (Jannah al-Firdaws).”

This book is a journey knowing the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W where you smile as well as shed tears and you develop a strong connection with him. As you read this book and know more about the Prophet SAW, your heart will actually love and long for him, to meet him one day.

In this book 'Meeting Muhammad', Imam Omar Suleiman draws a vivid description of our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW and his striking and immensely beautiful character. The book comprises of thirty beautiful reflections from the life of Prophet SAW and takes us 1400 years back in the city of Madina where you imagine how did it feel to be with the Prophet SAW and be one of his companions. The author has used number of authentic hadith including some special duas.

The Prophet SAW used to generously smile towards members of his ummah as well as intensely weep to his Lord and pray for joy and success of his ummah. He would make everyone around him feel special and valued. He was described as being deeper and more eloquent than breadth of an ocean in his speech. He would make the obligatory prayers short for the sake of women carrying children behind him. He would often carry his grandchildren in his arms while praying and would gently put them down while descending to prostrate. He made sure that poor people are always included and invited to any celebration.

The Prophet SAW prohibited people from making jokes that frightened or shocked people and used humor as a means to raise the people in value as well as defuse tensions and disputes. He was determined to serve the people and not just help people monetarily but extended his help to resolve disputes, fulfilling debts and searching for a suitable spouse. He would help those who no one else noticed. He did not ignore the call of oppressed even if no one else heard it. He forgave those who wronged him without holding any grudge.

Post Prophet's death, when his wife Aisha (R.A) was asked what the most incredible and amazing thing was about him, she started to cry for a long time and then replied, " everything about him was amazing". But then she told that on one particular night, the prophet came to bed and rested beside her and then he sought her permission before leaving the bed and commencing his worship! Just amazing!

The Prophet SAW suffered every type of difficulty one can imagine yet he remained patient and merciful to others. He was an exemplary and outstanding leader, teacher, always serving the people not just outside but inside his home as well. He was most loving and caring husband and father as well. He did not sit idle at home; he was productive and served his family. The Prophet SAW was sent as a mercy to the mankind.

A short review cannot do justice. I highly recommend this book.

The most difficult book to review. The memories I had with this book are so precious. The pain of leaving my love in Medina is still and will always be there. Hence, the delay of this review. I started reading this book a day before departed to Umrah, continuing to read it on the plane and it also became a witness to the tears I shed when the plane's tires stepped on the land of Madinah. A few days before leaving for Mecca, I was in my menses. Apparently, there was nothing I can do in Masjid Nabawi except visiting the Maqam and reading this. The feeling was surreal, i was literally reading a book titled 'Meeting Muhammad' in front of him. Allahu 😢. When it was time for the last chapter, the death, I was in flood of tears. I was in despair, the feeling was so so painful and still is till today.

In short, this book is the text version of Omar Suleiman Youtube Ramadhan series with the same title. Its an invite for us to start the journey to alight upon his life deeply through his 30 simple narrations. It covers the physical beauty, emotional property, akhlaq accountability and his exigent life journey. This book is a must for all of us, if you wanna start your journey of knowing him, pls start with this book. Highly recommended! I also recommend this to those who are planning to go for Umrah to read this before you visit him. Little preparation like this will make your feelings get deepen and more sensitive when you are there! In sya Allah, sollu a'lan Nabi! May Allah invite all of us to His Holy Land, Haramain again and again. Aminnn!

Akhir kata, Allahumma shalli 'ala Muhammad ~

Cocok buat yg lagi cari bacaan islami ringan sekaligus buat penyegar iman.🌻

"You must constantly attempt to bring the Prophet's code of conduct into your life. By doing so, you will remember him throughout your life, and ultimately long for him. By longing for him more, you will have the tendency to send more blessings (salawat) upon him. Once you begin doing this, you will develop intricate connection with the Prophet s.a.w." - Meeting Muhammad by Omar Suleiman

It is always a truly pure and heartwarming experience to be reading about a story, any story at all related to our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. He was the best and most beloved of creations, and his life story was filled with every single lesson and morsel of wisdom that would make a wonderful guide to every believer.

This stunning book is based on Yaqeen Institute's Ramadan series a couple years ago, and reading the print form is an illuminating experience. Split into thirty reflections on the life of our beloved Prophet, each chapter truly delivers in the concise and inspirational narrative of various aspects of the Prophet's life.

The second person narrative likened the reader to imagine and envision a life in Madinah over 1400 years ago, vividly describing moments such as being with him in the trenches, or even welcoming him as a guest in your home. This evokes such a sense of longing and yearning in the reader to learn more, to know more, and even to be closer to the Prophet s.a.w.

Ultimately, it also provides a guide on how important one's character development is, and that we should learn to understand and emulate his teachings and admirable qualities as much as we can. For we are mere mortals who can never reach his level of piety, but as believers, we can learn to continue to act upon his teachings and send our salawat to our beloved Prophet s.a.w.

On one occasion, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) arose from prostration in a weeping state. When angel Jibril was sent by Allah to see why he was crying, the Prophet PBUH said in response:
‘O Allah, my ummah, my ummah.’

On another occasion, while visiting graves he (PBUH) said: ‘I wish I could meet my brothers.’ Here, by brothers he meant ‘those who will believe in me despite not seeing me.’

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) once made dua for Hazrat Aisha (RA) by saying: ‘O Allah, forgive all of Aisha’s sins: the previous and the future ones, the secret ones and the future ones.’ About this very dua, he said: ‘I swear by Allah, this is the dua I make for my entire ummah in every single prayer.’

How our beloved Prophet cared and worried for us!

In Jannah, generations of his ummah will be able to drink directly from his blessed hands! Simply even longing for this moment is an act of worship.

Ya Allah! Allow us to love Your beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)! Allow us to follow in his footsteps and emulate the Prophetic characteristics! Allow us to long to be in his company in Jannah, and allow us to drink from his blessed hands in the eternity where there is only bliss.

May Allah bless Imam Omar Suleiman for this beautiful book.

How I long and wish to meet Muhammad SAW after reading this tearjerker of a book. My love and appreciation for him SAW deepens with each narration and their respective reflections that were drawn by Imam Omar Suleiman throughout the book.

Each chapter encapsulates who our beloved Prophet SAW was as the messenger of Allah s.w.t and more importantly, how human he still was despite being given the highest mantle of prophethood. Chapter 21 beautifully and emotionally exemplifies the human aspect deeply rooted in the prophet SAW; how he wept and mourned for the loss of his son, Ibrahim. As found in one of his narrations:

“The eyes shed tears, the heart feels sadness, but we do not say anything except that which is pleasing to Allah. We are immensely saddened over your departure, O Ibrahim”

It goes without saying that he SAW had the utmost of akhlaq (mannerisms) and the best of characters which were, are, and will never be paralleled. Nevertheless, we should always try our best to uphold his teachings and emulate his excellent character traits, which this book illustrates in an easy and concise manner.

May we be with him, our beloved in Paradise. Aamiin.

A must read.

Title says it all really, no amount of words can express or do the Prophet’s character justice. It was certainly a beautiful read and most certainly an emotional one. It makes one visualise and imagine the various aspects of the Prophet’s blessed life and all the hearts and lives he touched.

Omar Suleiman’s books are always concise and easy to understand and this book was no different.
His lectures are also amazing too, to follow along with the chapter’s of this book.
This is an amazing book for those who want to increase their love for Allah’s beloved Prophet and delve into learning more of the Prophet’s life, as should be the duty of every Muslim.

Chapter 29 was most certainly an emotional one regarding his blessed death.

May we be of the blessed people who will meet him in Paradise. Allahuma Ameen.

May the blessings of Allah be upon you, O Rasul Allah.

An excellent book detailing the character of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Meeting Muhammad ﷺ contains 30 short chapters that touch upon different facets of his everyday life.

I had previously read the book The Sealed Nectar, which is one of the most popular biographies of our Prophet ﷺ. It focuses on the major events of his life, which many of us are aware of, though not in as much detail. Meeting Muhammad ﷺ beautifully complements it by providing a more holistic view of who our Prophet ﷺ was.

It filled my heart with a sense of deep love and longing to meet him. It also made me much more conscious of my own character and motivated me to follow his teachings.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Many of us claim to love the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but I believe this love often arises from societal expectations. Reading this book allows you to truly appreciate the beauty of his character and personality.
