About the author

Johanna Spyri was a Swiss author of children's stories, best known for Heidi. Born Johanna Louise Heusser in the rural area of Hirzel, Switzerland, as a child she spent several summers in the area around Chur in Graubünden, the setting she later would use in her novels.

I loved the story of Heidi growing up, and it was just as delightful as an adult. However, turns out this edition is a highly abridged and illustrated version, so much of the beauty of the original story was lost. It would be great for a 6 or 7 year old who wants to read the story but wouldn't be able to understand the more difficult vocabulary or length of the original.
